Head coach, Matt Riser on Memphis Morning News with Ditch & Tim Van Horn. The recruiting efforts in the offseason have paid some big dividends for Coach Riser. Adding 14 junior college players with a "chip on their shoulder" to come in and fill the roster with very talented players. He's [Dr. Ed Scott] going to help us to fund it and to help us get to a place where we can keep some of those players. Those players will stay for less dollars, right, but we need to be able to invest something into them". LSU baseball wrapped up a four game weekend going 3-1 with the lone loss coming at the hands of Stony Brook with a 5-2 loss Friday night. Through two weekends of LSU baseball and life after Paul Skenes, Dylan Crews, and the College World Series championship, what is the identity of this team? That just might be a question that Jay Johnson and his squad don't have the answer to right now. And that's okay. We have seen great pitching, like Luke Holman who had another fantastic outing going seven innings giving up just two hits, zero runs, zero walks, and striking out eight in the process. Relievers like Fidel Ulloa and Gavin Guidry have also given you great performances on the mound. However, LSU is inconsistent at the plate. Although the Tigers beat Northern Illinois 5-2 on Saturday, they did so while only recording three hits. The next day LSU scored 18 runs off of 17 hits in a 18-10 offensive firework performance against Stony Brook to wrap up the weekend. Finally, the LSU men's basketball team weren't able to capitalize off of their thrilling last second victory against the Kentucky Wildcats last week and fell to the Mississippi State Bulldogs 87-67 Saturday night at the PMAC. The Tigers only made three of their seventeen three-point attempts and turned the ball over fifteen times in the process. The Tigers will stay at home and host the Georgia Bulldogs on Tuesday night. The Curse of the Colonel refers to a 1985 Japanese urban legend regarding a reputed curse placed on the Japanese Kansai-based Hanshin Tigers baseball team by the ghost of deceased KFC founder and mascot Colonel Sanders. The curse was said to be placed on the team because of the Colonel's anger over treatment of one of his store-front statues, which was thrown into the Dōtonbori River by celebrating Hanshin fans before their team's victory in the 1985 Japan Championship Series. As is common with sports-related curses, the Curse of the Colonel was used to explain the team's subsequent 18-year losing streak. Some fans believed the team would never win another Japan Series until the statue had been recovered. They have appeared in the Japan Series three times since then, losing in 2003, 2005 and 2014.Comparisons are often made between the Hanshin Tigers and the Boston Red Sox, who were said to be under the Curse of the Bambino until they won the World Series in 2004. The "Curse of the Colonel" has also been used as a bogeyman threat to those who would divulge the secret recipe of eleven herbs and spices that result in the unique taste of his chicken.STORYTELLERLiz StockwellBANDFiddle - Laurel Scott Piano/Harmonica - GriffoDrums - Mike AmandesBass - Tom Urwin Acoustic Guitar - Arne Parrott Saxophone - Eli WilsonVOCALSMatt GriffoDrake Shrader Lexi AliotoSupport the showSupport the show via Matt Griffo's Patreon page at Patreon.com/mattgriffo
