Hey, guess what. The Runaways are back! And it is Super Bowl Sunday! Let's see what happens when I try to explain this comic book and what we talk about with just references to Super Bowls Greatest moments. First, let's talk about the Apple in the room. That's right, the giant sentinel helping to guard the Avengers compound from riff-raff like that Runaways. Not unlike a sledgehammer wielding woman, breaking down the barriers....or wait...Are the Runaways the ones with the hammer? Not unlike Harry Carson drenching Bill Parcells with a bucket of Gatorade has there been another time when a Giant has poured cold water on a fellow Giant. Yet, Hank stops the Sentinel from killing kids....what is this world coming to. How about the kitten bowl. No not the halftime entertainment to elicit adorations from your children, I am talking about a kitten in a bowl...like Tigra's son. She uses this child to distract the defense. Flag on the play. The hate that Hazmat and Nico have upon their first meeting is not unlike that of the Cowboys and Steelers from Super Bowl X. Sure there is respect, but there is hate....a lot of hate. Super Bowl 56 was the Bengals vs the Rams....and they hyped this by playing Welcome to the Jungle. And during this comic, the kids went to a jungle. What do you want from me. It is the best I could do.  Never has a tackle like the one Old Lace gave Chase been so powerful. Well maybe when Kevin Dyson was Tackled by Mike Jones on a yard away from the goal line to cause the Titans to lose. That one hurt more. And speaking of dinosaurs, do you remember that time when a big red dinosaur crashed the Super Bowl. Neither did I, because it did not happen yet. But it will. I just need to get this magic amulet to open, and then you will all rue the day. Boy that was sure fun, and not at all a last minute scramble as I tried to get this done. GO SPORTS! Adriane shares the story of how her experience as a Canadian teen in Japan led to a life of bringing together exchange students from across the world with host families here in the US. --- Adriane Wagoner's experience with international exchange goes back nearly 30 years, when she left her native Canada as a high school student to study abroad in Japan for a year. For the last 18 years, she has worked professionally in student exchange. Over the years, she has come to know the ins and outs of international exchange and all it has to offer for everyone involved. She has also personally hosted a dozen or so students during that time. Tammy tells her story of a life in aviation, from becoming a private pilot to being employee of multiple airlines, from ultra luxury to ultra-low cost. -- Tammy O'Neill describes herself as an aviation enthusiast, world traveler and music appreciator. She took her first flight with her father at age 11, and decided to join her many family members in aviation, purposely earning her private pilots license before her driver's license. After completing college, she moved to Los Angeles and applied to all the major airlines at LAX, in person at each airline's ticket counter. She received multiple offers with several major mainline carriers and accepted her first offer, from TWA. But, a few days later she received a letter from Braniff Airways offering flight attendant training with an earlier start date. So, she eagerly chose Braniff Airways and has since loved every moment of her aviation life, having flown "around the world with Braniff". Along the way, she was fortunate to have worked and flown Concorde many times. From there, she played an instrumental part in the launch of Skybus Airlines, an ultra-low cost carrier based in Columbus, Ohio, and then went on to fly for Delta Air Lines, where she was able to create inflight training materials, curriculum and FAA training, and she was part of the effort to merge 3 regional carriers, Colgan, Mesaba and Pinnacle into Endeavor Air, a wholly owned subsidiary for Delta's mainline flying under one certificate. During her active flying years she was based at DFW, MCI, MCO, TPA, CMH, MSP and ATL. In this episode we talk with the amazing, Mandana Yamin. She was in our High School class of ‘84, but we learned so much more about her from this talk and what it was like to move from Iran to Beverly Hills. Her family came from Iran via Italy before the Shah was overthrown in ‘79. She was lucky to get out early before the revolution when the Ayatollah Khomeini took over. Her family was able to establish themselves in Beverly Hills early before they were forced to leave their country like so many other families. Beverly Hills is now 20% Iranian so Mandana's story is a key part of the history of Beverly Hills and represents a time when Iran/US relations were extremely tense. We were very fortunate to have the amazing and prolific Film Director, Jon Turteltaub, talk with us. He was a senior when we were freshmen at Beverly High. He got his first big break directing 3 Ninjas, which led to getting Cool Runnings. Then he went on to direct Phenomenon with John Travolta, the Kid with Bruce Willis and the National Treasure films with his old classmate Nicolas Cage. That's just naming a few of his movies. He also Produces and Directs TV shows such as Jericho. He gives us all the inside scoop on being a director from BH and we also discuss his father who was a legendary writer on the Carol Burnette Show, Sanford and Son and What's Happening. We also get into some of the humanitarian efforts he does to give back. We got talking about politics and some of the historic events he lived through before getting to his prolific writing and producing career. This episode features Nancy Radin, if you went to Beverly Hills High School you might know her by her maiden name Nancy Fishman. She graduated from Beverly in 1970 and not long after came back to teach there in the Drama Department. Nancy and the other teachers had a profound influence on so many kids and so many of those kids are now bigshots in show business. Nancy talks about all her time at Beverly and also about her fight against cancer and how she uses her friends and humor to get through it. We were so happy to catch up with our classmate Sophia Grant. She is the Chief of Medical Services for the Riverside County Child Assessment Team and Medical Director of the Sexual Assault and Forensic Assessment Team. Sophia's parents are Jamaican and her father had an amazing journey from living with a dirt floor in Jamaica to becoming a doctor living in Beverly Hills. Sophia talks about her experiences growing up black in Beverly Hills, which is not a diverse city. She also talks about going to medical school at Meharry Medical College, which is a historically black college. Claudia Wells joins Growing Up Beverly Hills for the Second Part of a two part Episode. In this part we start with talking about her role in Back to the Future. There's plenty of new info for the fans in this episode, but there's also just a lot to learn about life. Eden Alpert comes to Growing up Beverly Hills to tell her story. Eden talks very openly about how even though her family had fame and fortune it wasn't as easy as you'd think. Her parents were divorced just a few years after she was born. Her father, Herb Alpert, was on the road a lot and her mother struggled with alcohol. Even with her challenges, she was able to enjoy the good times and appreciate them. Now she's found herself and her ideal life.
