This is a unique episode! Valentine's Day brings thoughts of love and appreciation, but what about the validation we yearn for in our professional lives? Vanessa Grant joins me, Josh Matthews to unravel the subtle need for recognition that often fuels our journey in the Salesforce community. Inspired by Vanessa's candid LinkedIn article, we reflected on the real drivers behind our work—those moments of validation that go beyond public accolades, deeply connecting us to the human side of our professional endeavors. When we opened the floor to our live audience, the conversation took a profound turn, merging practical advice with personal tales that resonated with everyone involved. We dove into the realm of digital validation, where likes and comments can be double-edged swords, contrasting sharply against the authentic connections and learning experiences shared within the Trailblazer Community. There were laughs, nods of agreement, and the occasional "aha" moment as we dissected the intoxicating allure of online metrics and the more enduring pursuit of meaningful engagement.Wrapping up, our hearts were full as we pondered the unexpected avenues of growth and the joy found in simple acts of kindness within our community. As we look forward to the year, we're reminded of the profound impact every single interaction can have—whether it's a word of encouragement, a piece of constructive criticism, or a story that inspires. Join us for this insightful blend of heart, humor, and Salesforce wisdom that promises to leave you feeling both challenged and cherished in your professional journey.

Welcome back to the Be Empactful Podcast with us host bees, Shiva & Vineet!! After covering the journey of the 4 KYC to build your BS and our friends Beevis and his brothers building Beehive X, delving a little deeper into the Marketing Journey. Today we will discuss: Why is Community a necessary part of the Strategy? & How can Community be Integrated into Strategy? Community Building is a subset of Marketing Strategy & it plays an integral role in building and broadening the audience base where businesses are pooling in resources from multiple stakeholders and each one benefits from it. Here is the Equation coined by Vineet: PEOPLE + PURPOSE + GUIDELINES = COMMUNITY BUILDING + GROWTH This becomes clearer from the 3 examples: 1. Salesforce It is a global CRM solution that drives dollars & cents for the business. But Everybody speaks about the Trailblazer Community as it is a strategic differentiator as people now buy Salesforce because they get this giant warm blanket of the global ecosystem wrapped around them in a global Community. Erica Kuhl played a key role in nurturing the community at Salesforce for 17 years here's 3 articles from an interview: Story of a Community Professional – Feat Erica Kuhl In conversation with Paras Pundir, Founder, Community Folks https://medium.com/community-folks/story-of-a-community-professional-feat-erica-kuhl-in-conversation-with-paras-pundir-founder-e3d4656ee953 Erica, How did you prove the ROI of Community at Salesforce? https://medium.com/community-folks/erica-how-did-you-prove-the-roi-of-community-at-salesforce-d8f07d9cbf3f Key Points to remember while kick-starting a Community https://medium.com/community-folks/key-points-to-remember-while-kickstarting-a-community-46dedb9e19b9 2. Facebook Facebook is a social media platform that most of us have used and they have started investing into the community through Facebook Certified Community Manager (FCCM) Program which gets the tools and recognition to build, scale and connect communities more meaningfully. Here is the link to the articles: FCCM - Certification Exam - Learning & Experience https://link.medium.com/TLlBG1lzndb Overview of the FCCM course https://link.medium.com/oGo7Ztozndb “Figure It Out” is the mantra given by Vineet on 18-Feb-21 in the “Real Stories from Community Manager” series in FCCM Private Group. 3. 91springboard 5 critical things needed for an organization to succeed - Infrastructure, Service Providers, Network, Knowledge & Capital. This was shared by Varun Chawla, Co-Founder, 91springboard in “My Big Plunge feat 91springboard” - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7nfPzQAZeg Which became the basis on which Vineet became a Community Professional. We also share some experience on How Community becomes a critical piece in the Strategy - but we are not sharing it here - you need to listen to the podcast for it :)) So let us know how you are planning your marketing journeys if you tried any of the tips we mentioned or have any other of your own!! In today’s episode, community consultant and Salesforce Former VP of Community, Erica Kuhl, joins us to share her greatest community growth advice. Years before community was a known industry, Erica used three methods to successfully get buy-in from the Salesforce Executives. She worked with Salesforce users and product managers to strengthen and build the product. She then put the community on the brand new product, creating further excitement. Erica then showed data for how community aligned with the key ROI’s of Salesforce, the resulting revenue impact, and resulting product adoption. Today, Salesforce has a Trailblazer community forum, MVP programs, User Groups and a democratized learning platform, Trailhead, that mentors and educates others to receive jobs and develop skills. One year ago, Erica left Salesforce to become an independent community consultant. To successfully get her client’s community up and running, she implements the V2MOM strategy of establishing vision, values, methods, obstacles, and metrics. Erica works with her clients to create a program, staff the team, launch, and grow a community. She hopes that community will become integrated into every part of businesses and provide a service to companies as a whole. The SuccessLab Podcast: Where Entrepreneurs Collaborate for Success
How do you make an impact with others? Purple hair can help. But Holly Rushton's secret sauce is being a “yes” person and tapping into positive energy. These two simple –– yet highly effective tips –– have helped her navigate a major acquisition and make a name for herself at Salesforce, where she is a senior manager of content marketing, works with Salesforce's Trailblazer Community and oversees content for AppExchange. Her “you get out what you put in” attitude has also been highly effective in her ability to manage the highs and lows that come with working remotely –– namely helping her build and maintain solid relationships with her coworkers. In this episode of The Success Lab Podcast, Holly talks about the journey that led her to Salesforce, how she has navigated her role through acquisitions, and reveals what she's most excited about from a content marketing perspective in 2020. Read on for a selection of questions, and listen to the entire interview by clicking the player above. How did you land at Salesforce? Looking back, I think it was always a goal to work for a larger enterprise. I worked for a Midwestern tech startup called ExactTarget, and we were acquired by Salesforce in 2013. And the rest is history. What is one of the most rewarding perks of working at Salesforce that only those on the inside would know? I don't want to give away all of our secrets, but you'll probably hear two things. The first one's a bit tongue in cheek –– we get really great snacks in the office. There's a whole cult following of all of our wonderful snacks, which is a testament to Salesforce and how much they care about their employees and want to make sure that they're productive. However, I think the most rewarding part of working at Salesforce is the ability to try new things and to grow. I have worked for a handful of other companies prior to coming to this ecosystem and the opportunity to grow your career path has not been there. I would work for companies where you had to literally be fired and rehired if you wanted to change departments or your level of contribution –– and that's not a way to run an employee culture. How do you maintain strong relationships being a remote employee? It actually hasn't been a very easy journey for me. I started working remotely in 2016. It was a really hard change for me and it was difficult for me to feel connected and motivated. What helps is to identify people who are also not based at HQ that you can develop strong relationships with. We have an internal network called Ohana at Home. It's for all remote employees. We share photos of our cats or our workspaces and we participate in a lot of general conversations. Also, being present helps. Video conferencing is a game-changer. I used to never turn on my webcam but being in front of people and showing your face, even if it's just to nod or say hi, is really important. You really need to put in the energy. At least that's what I've found has been successful for me. What's one piece of advice you would give to fellow marketers looking to make impactful connections? Being open and being willing to say, "yes." Bringing the energy to building relationships because connections aren't going to be made. Connections take work. You have to be at certain places or talk to certain people. You get what you put in. What are you most excited about from a content marketing perspective for 2020? I was recently reading a piece from the Content Marketing Institute, and Jay Baer, from Convince & Convert, was talking about the importance of user-generated content. He said for 2020, you'll need to determine what inspires your audience to create and share your story, and that it's not about changing the message, it's about changing the messenger. I think that's a really exciting prediction. Lightening Round: Coffee drinker, yes or no? Yes. One business tool you're geeking out over right now? I love this Chrome extension called Momentum. Every time you open your browser or a new tab, it displays a beautiful photo and an inspirational quote. You can also keep a digital to-do list on there, which is really helpful for me. Favorite marketing tool? The Salesforce Marketing Cloud. We also use a tool on my team called Social Studio, which is also owned by us. It's really great for engagement. What's one book you'd pass along to a fellow entrepreneur? It's not a traditional marketing book, but Stephen King's On Writing was an important book for me when I was just finishing up college and knew I wanted to do writing in some format. One person you'd like to make a connection with? Barack Obama. Definitely. What's your favorite ice breaker when introducing yourself to someone (either online or off)? I like to do Two Truths and A Lie. How many hours of sleep do you get each night, on average? Probably, five to six. What's your favorite board game? I'm a big board gamer and I would have to say I really love Lords of Waterdeep. Which was your favorite musical act from this year's Dreamforce? It would definitely be Fleetwood Mac. You can always give me a follow on Twitter –– you can find me at @hollymrushton. I'm also available to connect via LinkedIn. Just look for the girl with purple hair and black glasses.
Salesforce Admins are now finding themselves working with Pardot, now that the two are married. To get the perspective of Salesforce objects, product trends, and product releases for all of our Pardot marketers and to give the background for how all of this works with Pardot, Jennifer Lynn Schneider brings in a veteran Salesforce admin.A Salesforce.com MVP Alumni, a host of the Salesforce Admin Podcast #AwesomeAdmin, and the Senior Admin Evangelist at Salesforce, Marc Baizman, gives his take on the Salesforce Admin outside looking into Pardot, upcoming product updates, and his advice for those attending Dreamforce. If you are an #accidentaladmin or #accidentalmarketer, this one is for you. TakeawaysA lead is the first contact point with your organization. They come from in-person events, or you get their business card, but the point is that they are new to you. It’s the start of a relationship that you may or may not convert to dating. An account is a company your organization has a business relationship with. They could be a customer or a potential customer.New admins tend to want to over customize. However, they need to ask themselves, what fields are actually being used? What is the business process? What is the point of taking the time to customize a field that your team does not use?Establish a qualification process with your team of when to create an opportunity. What information does the sales team member need to have, to take that step?Define within your organization what you care about as it pertains to understanding what activities lead up to the outcome of a deal. You should not have to log every single call, but when certain results happen from particular calls, perhaps you are logging those. You HAVE to be using opportunity contact roles to get attribution for the marketing campaigns that contributed to that opportunity. Without that, you cannot see what marketing activities the people on that opportunity engaged with.Jennifer’s top advice for Salesforce admins that now find themselves working with Pardot: Many of the new features, like Engagement History need to be provisioned in Production. These changes are simply aggregating data, like custom report types and new components being added to page layouts. Pardot marketers will need access to Salesforce, especially with lightning. The marketing team needs the CRM or Sales Cloud user permission set licenses. For new Salesforce admins coming into Pardot, start by owning the sync error queue.Pardot Engagement Studio allows you to segment and nurture leads that are not hot and ready.Marc’s Trailblazer Community top tips: Find your local trailblazer community group, they meet offline. Find a Salesforce Saturday group near you. They could help you study for things like certification.Marc’s advice for Dreamforce:Wear comfortable shoes, not a heavy backpack.Do not over schedule yourself, prioritize your time.Talk to other humans, you never know who you are going to meet. Put good conversation before running off to your next session, finish the conversation.Do not do work meetings the week of Dreamforce. If you try to multitask, you will do neither Dreamforce nor work well. It costs a lot of money to be there, so make the most of it and be present.Take care of yourself. Hydrate, eat, and bring medicine because we do not want you to get the Dream Flu #PardotLifeHacksPut your Business Analyst hat on. - It’s now more important than ever to ask questions. You all share data now and you may be the only bridge between marketing and sales processes. Best practice is to realize that nothing lives in Pardot alone. - We only want to collect useful information. What is your sales team using? How can you enrich the leads in the database by collecting relevant data to fill in the fields. Make sure that all your marketing users have the marketing user checkbox true on their user record inside of Salesforce.A prospect can be a Salesforce lead or contact, Pardot does not differentiate. Your prospect list could be leads or contacts. The act of assigning your prospect is the trigger that creates a net new lead inside of Salesforce.
