In 2020 after the COVID restart Justin would lead ISPS Handa UK Championship at The Belfry Brabazon Course from start to finish until making a few mistakes going for home when Rasmus Hojgaard with an amazing finish got into a playoff where Hojgaard would win & still to this day Justin's biggest regret. He loves the Belfry after also a T3rd in 2022 at Betfred British Masters.    From promising college career to career struggles to near misses on the main tour to personal tragedies this is a must listen to episode. Then they get to the big news of the week, the OWGR denying LIV's application to receive certification and points. They discuss how both groups seem to be marginalized and in need of fixing, and why the decision has some merit and where it might be clearly susceptible to critique. They discuss Phil's tweets on the matter, and if the players collective bargaining for more of the overall majors cut will play well when only a couple of the players and a couple of the events truly matter. The TGL additions, who are not Blockie, are also discussed. Ben An's three-month suspension for violating the PGA Tour's drug policy is also reviewed, as both overly harsh or overly soft. They close with Friday's Golf Advice on another handicap issue for a buddies trip and calling out someone teeing up in front of the markers.

Don't overcomplicate your goals. Fulfillment- hitting targets and having self-satisfaction, that's how they know they're doing their job right. KPI's need to be reviewed every day, don't wait until the end of the month. It needs to also be shared with employees. “If you don't share, they don't care.” Don't make decisions without data- it lets you know what you need to work on and prioritize. Strategic thinking instead of working on many things at once.  How do you know what to fix? Pause and do analysis. Make cars count vs car count.  Coaches change clients- is this someone who is willing to put words into action? You need an investable business in order to retire- can't wait until the end to start working on your business You have to want to change yourself and your business. If not don't hire a coach or even join a networking group Focus on one particular area of concern, get it right, then move on to the next. Stop the smorgasbord of quick fixes. You can't wait to fix the business when you want to sell or retire. Navarro, who currently works for Nick Watney, was the bagman for Greg Norman in his heyday during the 1990s. He was also there for the 1996 Masters -- something Navarro gave us plenty of great insight on. Navarro also spent time caddying for Raymond Floyd and Adam Scott. Burke, meanwhile, is part of a bag-share currently with Bill Haas, but previously caddied for the likes of Davis Love III and Brad Faxon, looping in four Ryder Cups. Listen to Bill’s previous episodes  (https://remarkableresults.biz/?s=%22haas%22) .   Key Talking Points We have to know what they are doing As independents, we do not have the kind of money for marketing They can attract technician talent An organization polled 16,000 people that had recently visited the service department at a new car dealership. The survey was skewed because they were all dealership people Two of every three visits service visits are to independent shops. (Source October 2019 Fixed Ops Journal) Bill doesn’t want our aftermarket customer to have a service experience form a dealership. He recommends: Let your customer know that you’ll support a recall notice. Keep them away from the dealership, do the legwork for them. Don’t let them feel the poor service of dealerships Don’t let them get talked out of their vehicle to buy a new one Don’t let an aggressive service advisor sell them a ton of work, then you lose Become the place you’ll ever need to go for service, and warranty on your vehicle.   A special thanks to Bill Haas for his contribution to the aftermarket. Listen to Bill’s previous episodes  (https://remarkableresults.biz/?s=%22haas%22) .   Key Talking Points Dealer Pricing Margin is a big factor in your overall profitability You’ve got to mark-up no matter where you buy your parts the parts margin you need to maintain your net operating profit Includes Insurance/Warranty companies. The owner may have to pay a deductible to you Always keep in mind that the customer is the vehicle owner not the Insurance/Warranty Company If our labor rate is set on pure mathematics and the need to generate the right net income then your parts margins cannot be compromised. How much do you charge? Based on where you used to work/work for Can’t have the mindset you charge less you would get more customers and compare pricing to other businesses Value your services Not hitting parts gross profit targets excuses- buying parts from the dealer, source of parts should have no effect on what you’re selling parts for  Should have pricing strategy- buy part for X, sell for Y, profit is Z Never allow an unrelated third party to influence profit strategy- including warranty companies, the vehicle owner is your customer, not the warranty company   A special thanks to Bill Haas for his contribution to the aftermarket. Listen to Bill’s previous episodes  (https://remarkableresults.biz/?s=%22haas%22) .   Key Talking Points Back in the day when R12 rose in price because of a tax, we had a chance to change who purchased refrigerant.  Today the Clean Air Act requires all technicians who work on refrigerant systems who purchase refrigerant R134A and R1234YF in quantities of 2 pounds or more need a certification called ‘Section 609’. MACS hold these certifications Anyone can purchase refrigerant in sizes below 2 pounds. Bill says we missed an opportunity to take this product out of the hands of the consumer. Since we are on the verge of the data issue; ownership, privacy, access.  Will we use this opportunity to be sure the ‘right’ people are qualified to vehicle data? What will the vehicle owner do with their data if they get access to it. Will they have access to repair ADAS systems on their own? Who are the professionals going to be? We could elevate the industry to a new level of professionalism by limiting who gets access to the vehicle data They will need training, skill sets, and equipment to qualify access to vehicle data Consider security professionals and their access to key codes. This template exists to take data access to the right people (definition to be determined) We need to be proactive to be sure this is done correctly. It needs to be supported by the entire industry. Across the board United we can approach the OE’s with a strong plan for data access They may be worried about liability instead of taking all the work to the dealership. They don’t have the capacity to do all the work  The data needs to be safe   A special thanks to Bill Haas for his contribution to the aftermarket. Your Learning Curve Never Sounded This Good Emily Sundstrom‘s career in the automotive field started about 13 years.   She was hired to “just” answer phones. It quickly turned into something which she had a passion for.  She enjoys doing it every day. The passion comes from taking a stressful, unexpected situation and turning it into an experience that leaves the customer feeling confident, educated, empowered and respected. She has acquired multiple certifications from ASE, ATI, Wa. State Emissions, Elite Master’s Program, and Ami.  She strives to continue to learn every day. Working with my customers and team at Valley Auto Electric has taught me the importance of customer satisfaction. Watching a customer walk away with a positive an experience, not just a transaction, is how I show there is more to automotive ownership. They have also gained a relationship in the process. Facilitating these relationships is my greatest accomplishment. Listen to Bill’s previous episodes  (https://remarkableresults.biz/?s=%22haas%22) .   Key Talking Points: The Service Adviser/Manager has the toughest job in the company. We get ourselves in a trap when customers call for a price. When we fail to convert we blame it on the price shopper. The person who is calling you and asking for price may just need help because they don’t know what else to ask. Change the trigger. Whatever the caller asks for it will trigger a reaction: Give them a price Or tell them why I can’t give them a price. If it is your company policy no one cares that it is your policy. They may not be shopping price. They are shopping for you but price may be the only thing they can ask. Let the ringing phone be your trigger to move you into ‘Make an Appointment’ mode. Never give the caller information that won’t help them make a good decision. If you give price will that help them make a good decision about their car? What do the brakes need? You make bad decisions with bad information Empower them to make their decision based on the information you give. Value story: Let’s get it here and let my team of ASE certified technicians look it over. I want to do it tomorrow morning. Our desired result from the marketing we do to get the phone ring should be to get a vehicle in the bay. Appointments are the goal. Learn to do the right things when the phone rings. We can give a ballpark figure (price). They say I’ll call you back. You have no return on your...

Bob’s previous episodes are (https://remarkableresults.biz/?s=%22greenwood%22) . Talking points: You must develop a culture of learning. Conferences like Vision are seeing more members of owners company. More team training. This will help prepare for a transition of ownership. Projections in 2023 there may be 500 million lines of code in the vehicle. We are moving into a new profession where training will become the norm at 100 hours per year. The business model will need to change. We’ve seen the best tech in the shop is the owner. The owner must become the CEO and hire their new best top grade. The approach needs to come from an entrepreneurial mentality. Don’t go into business today because you love to fix cars. You must become a true business person and build a team to solve clients vehicle problems. Specialization may become part of a new business model. Instead of a standalone specialty shop, you can specialize within the shop with specialty technicians. Potentially can have a platform specialist, brake specialist, drivability specialist, etc. Do you have all the tools and information systems? Pay, benefits and training must increase. Labor rates must be dialed in to support this. Competent people need to be paid well and they make companies money. Efficiencies need to improve. When your efficiencies go down your cost per billed hour goes up. When your efficiencies go up your cost per billed hour goes down. Competing for talent. Provide tools and tool allowance. Tuition reimbursement. Retirement programs. Provide your team with resources for financial planning. Find a competitive advantage to embrace and retain your talent. It must be part of your culture. Become the place where people want to work. Profit sharing will become the norm. Tell your story when you started your shop to your people.

Bob Harig, ESPN.com, calls in at the top of the show to discuss team USA beating the International team by one point. Holly asks Bob if the President's Cup came up in the ranking compared to the Ryder Cup?  Bob said it's hard to compare the two with the history of the Ryder Cup.  Bob said that when one team dominates, the interest falls off. He said the Ryder Cup used to be the same way in the '70s. It came down to Bill Haas versus Sang Moon Bae. The story line was great with Bill's dad Jay serving as the USA's captain. Sang Moon was playing in his last event before leaving for mandatory military service. Bob pointed out that Sang Moon Bae's duffed chip shot on the 18th was eerily similar to what happened to Hunter Mahan in the Ryder Cup. Heartbreaking. Holly and Bob talk about the start of the new season with the Frys.com tournament. Bob thinks there is not a break for fans to miss golf. Bob said maybe play a tournament in Australia or Asia so its unique and maybe can be shown at night on television.  Mike Purkey, Global Golf Post, calls in to talk to Holly about the Presidents Cup and the challenges of the International team. Nick Price had a difficult challenge having players from 8 different countries and have them play well given just the language barriers teammates. Holly and Mike discuss the Champions Tour and how Colin Montgomerie has taken the senior tour by storm and has such a great following.  G.W. Cable, PGA Tour caddy for Chris Kirk, was at the President's Cup and talks to Holly about the USA's win at the President's Cup and how it was as a caddy. The emotion is like no other. Even as a caddy being in that moment is just so different than anything else. Holly and GW talk about the differences as a fan between the President's Cup and the Ryder Cup. Holly G asks GW what was it like going to South Korea with the time difference and how it affects the players and caddies. Mental Conditioning Coach Dr Bob Winters, David Leadbetter Academy, calls in to the show to wrap up the show talking to Holly about the final hole and the final two players. Dr Bob had said for a few weeks that he thought it was going to come down to the wire and the International team was a lot deeper than some fans thought. Sometimes the home field advantage actually acts as a detriment to some players. The players want to win so badly for their home country and their team and the momentum can change in a heartbeat. Holly talks to Dr Bob about the two year break for Sang Moon and how the tournament ended for him. Dr Bob said that Sang Moon had a great tournament and he needs to look back and relish the good moments and not focus on a bad one. Mistake Free Golf is Dr Bob's latest book. Dr Bob says that he feels the typical player gets ahead of himself or herself too much when playing a round of golf. When they are on the 5th hole they assess their game and project what score they will finish 18th hole with. He said that we need to quit being a human calculator and just play each shot as it comes.

Rich is joined by local friend and PGA Master Player, Instructor and Coach Sean Gorgone, "Whole Game of Golf."  Bob Harig, ESPN.com, calls in to share the week of golf news with Rich and Sean. Bob talks about Bowditch's win and it was nice to see knowing his past personal and professional struggles.  Bob also talks to Rich and Sean about the Shell Houston Open preceding the Masters. Bob feels that the week before the Masters that players competing in that tournament want to play in conditions that will be similar to Augusta the following week. Rich brings up Tiger Wood's injury and talks to Bob about it. But back surgery has sidelined Woods for the Masters and for several weeks, maybe months to come. Bob said that without Tiger its a big loss at the Masters. He's been there every year for the past 20 years except for this one. Bob's dark horse pick Bill Haas, Rich's Matt Every and Sean's is Ryo Ishikawa. Brian Hewitt, Global Golf Post editor, calls in to talk to Rich and Bob about the Masters. Brian says he is thinking about moving the story forward. Many expected him not to play at Augusta this year. What will happen when he comes back. Tiger started working with Sean Foley in 2010 and have not won a Major since and his record last year and the Majors even though he won 5 tournaments last year. Brian feels that Tiger may change his swing some during his rehab and may come back with another swing coach? Jeff Shain, PGA.com calls in to wrap up the show and talks to the duo about the Shell Houston Open. Jeff says he divides the Shell Houston Open into two categories, those who will play the 2014 Masters and those trying to gain the invitation to this year's Masters. Folks like Dustin Johnson who has played really well outside of match play.  Jeff and Rich talk about the great Texas golf tournaments like the storied Shell Houston Open. Jeff says that the staff at the Shell Houston Open did an outstanding job replicating the conditions that will face the golfers in Augusta, even thought they are in a totally different client in Texas.

Donald was last year's winner at Innisbrook for the Tampa Bay Championship. Jeff talks about the LPGA Tour and the upcoming RR Donnelly Founder's Cup. Natalie Gulbis has been sidelined with Malaria after the LPGA swing through Asia.  Paula Creamer was a part of a 5-car accident there but is getting better. Tavistock Cup teams were named Tuesday. Rosters are similar to last year, but with Isleworth lost a few members including Tiger Woods who now is on Team Albany. Two more teams are joining the Cup for a total of 6.  Oak Tree and Primland. Todd Lewis, the Golf Channel, calls in and talks with Holly and Rich about Tiger's win. Todd feels that Tiger is playing the best golf he's played in the past five years. Todd also talks about Sean Foley, Tiger's swing coach, and how well Tiger is doing now after all the criticism they both took after leaving Hank Haney. Tiger has 76 PGA Tour wins with four different swings.  Hunter Mahan and Justin Rose also work with Foley. Rich B's tip: If you want to start a new golfer out in the game start at the hole and work backward to the driver. Start with a short putt and then chipping and so on. Sean Foley endorses PSP Golf's The Little One. "I never look at it for a win for me because I don't hit any shots, or put in the practice rounds, I look at my self as coach," Sean Foley. He feels that Tiger is the Greatest Player of All times at the age of 37. Foley feels that his key to helping his "students" succeed is giving them access to their abilities. Sean feels that in 2013 we can measure now what we use to guess about with the technology that is out there. i.e. 3D analyzers, launch monitors and radar tracking devices, etc.

They also talk about Keegan Bradley's success at the Northern Trust Open and a great start at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship is underway today.  The WGC is set up completely off the world rankings with the top 64 players. Holly G and Rich B are in the studio talking about the finish of the regular season. Bill Haas's amazing par save from a greenside water hazard on the second playoff hole, No. 17 at East Lake, helped him capture not on the Tour Championship but the FedExCup edging out Hunter Mahan. Haas earned a total of $11.4 million. Mahan had an incredible day but his putting ultimately was his undoing. Jeff Shane from the Orlando Sentinel calls in and talks about the final event of the FedExCup Playoffs. He believes that the shot on 17 out of the water will be played over and over for many years to come. The trio also comments on the final day and how the FedExCup was up in the air until the end. Jeff also comments on the U.S. and Europe's amazing Solheim Cup over the weekend and the drama that took place. ESPN.com's Bob Harig calls in and shares his thoughts on the 17th playoff of the golf season and the wrap up of the FedExCup. Harig said the he feels that Haas not knowing that he could win the FedExCup probably allowed him to play a little more relaxed than if he knew what was riding on his game. The Golf Channels' Todd Lewis wraps up the show talking about the FedExCup finish calling in from Las Vegas.  Lewis feels that no one enjoyed it more than Tim Finchem because of the drama that centered around the finish and the momentum that it gives the PGA Tour for years to come. Mary Bryan joins the show and talks about the Solheim Cup with Todd Lewis and Holly and Rich B. The fact that Europe finally won the Solheim Cup Lewis feels that it has helped the event and started a rivalry that the event didn't have when the US was winning every time.
