With a new year around the corner, it's time to rethink how we approach productivity. Could managing your energy—not your time—be the secret to unlocking major breakthroughs in your business and health? In today's case study, you'll hear how Amina AlTai leveraged her energy cycles to transform her business and health. Initially driven by necessity following a brain injury and autoimmune challenges, Amina developed a productivity framework that aligned her work schedule with her body's natural rhythms. Within a year, her income doubled from $220K to over $500K. She also created the mental space and energy to write a book that sold within a week of being shopped out in a lucrative pre-empt deal with a publisher. Her anti-hustle approach set her apart in the market, proving that success doesn't have to come at the cost of well-being. If you're looking for a sustainable way to grow your business while protecting your health, this conversation is the perfect way to kickstart your year. Codependency is not just happening at home. It's happening in our professional lives, our work environments and relationships too. All change requires some level of courage, confidence, trust, and faith. But not all of us naturally feel confident. Some of that, particularly for historically excluded folks like women, POC, the LGBTQIA+ community, those with disabilities, those of varied sizes, and of varied immigration status, our confidence is often impacted by systemic oppression. If we don't see people like us in spaces we want to be in we usually question ourselves, our abilities, and our belonging. So how do we build confidence in an unjust world? I've got 10 hot tips for you! In this episode, you will be able to: Debunk the myth of imposter syndrome. Hint: it's a major distraction. Learn a step by step approach to building confidence over time. Strengthen your inner voice. Practice kindness and self-compassion, making confidence-building more attainable. Cultivate a strong support network to help achieve your goals and reach your full potential. Concentrate on positive change to develop confidence and effective leadership within broken systems. If 82% of people feel it, it's impossible to believe that it's about individual inadequacy. I think it has much more to do with structural inequality. - Amina AlTai We are enough. Focusing on our own alleged inadequacy is a distraction from the broken system. We need to focus less on fixing ourselves and more on shifting a broken world. Please let this be your invitation to galvanize your courage and confidence for something that lifts us all. - Amina AlTai Connect with Amina AlTai Website: aminaaltai.com Instagram: @aminaaltai TikTok: @theaminaaltai Linkedin: linkedin/in/aminaaltai

Are you a career changer who feels lost in the process of pivoting your career? Have you heard these common myths that are holding you back? Myth #1: You need to start from scratch. Myth #2: You can't switch industries. Myth #3: You have to take a pay cut. Let's debunk those right now. In this episode of the Amina Change Your Life podcast, I explore the principles of a powerful career pivot. I stress the importance of living directionally (a la Megan Hellerer), seeking clarity and information at each step of the journey. I highlight the significance of making small changes every day to avoid overwhelm and impulsivity. I encourage listeners to examine their fears and not let it hold them back from taking action. By taking things step by step and seeking clarity and information along the way, we can overcome barriers and move in the direction of personal and professional fulfillment. In this episode, you will be able to: Grasp the value of defining unearthing your purpose and creating a criteria for your next-level dream. Make peace with non-linear and unconventional career journeys and learn to adapt to evolving circumstances. Adopt the practice of making minor daily tweaks to witness exponential growth. Face and dismantle the fears and cognitive distortions stifling your potential and growth. The key moments in this episode are: 00:00:05 - Choosing Your Career Consciously 00:03:29 - You Are Right on Time 00:06:33 - Taking One Aligned Action at a Time 00:08:52 - Don't Get Stuck in the Planning Phase 00:11:37 - Living Directionally 00:11:59 - Atomic Habits 00:12:44 - Gain Clarity 00:13:48 - Examining Fears 00:14:36 - Cognitive Distortions Quotes “We are always right on time for our lives.” - Amina AlTai “Before you leap into something entirely new, I want you to go inward and start to follow the breadcrumbs of your purpose.” - Amina AlTai “Most of us have not chosen our careers consciously. We choose them based on the imprints of families, of cultures, subcultures, media, or sometimes even reactions.” -Amina AlTai “I just want to underscore that you are absolutely not a failure. You have not gone down the wrong path. You are not off track. I don't believe that we're ever off track. We're simply clarifying our next move.” -Amina AlTai “I find this whole judgment about where individuals should be at a certain stage of their life ridiculous. Only the soul knows the path it's here to walk, what it has to overcome, which achievements to measure its progress by. Nobody knows why we're here except you. You're the only one that can find that. People judge as though they have it all figured out, but their judgments are often just a smokescreen for their own confusion. Are we late bloomers or on time growers? This is a personal decision. The important thing is that we keep on walking towards a place that feels like home.” - Jeff Brown The resources mentioned in this episode are: Listen to Episode 3: Unearthing Your Purpose and download the purpose workbook. Make a list of three to five things that didn't work in your last role and what contributed to the breakdown from a personal, managerial, and organizational perspective. Take one aligned action at a time, focusing on small steps rather than trying to plan everything at once. Don't get stuck in the planning phase, make small 1% changes every day towards your goals. This week's podcast episode features an interview with Dr. Gabrielle Lyon., co-hosted by Amina Altai. Dr. Lyon is a holistic functional family medicine practitioner who received her doctorate in osteopathic medicine from the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine She earned her undergraduate degree in Human Nutrition from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where she studied vitamin and mineral metabolism, chronic disease prevention and management and the physiological effects of diet composition. She also completed a research/clinical fellowship in Nutritional Science and Geriatrics at Washington University in St. Louis. Her philosophy of Muscle-Centric Medicine™ is her ground-breaking concept of eliminating unwanted body fat while building muscle and allowing for continued metabolism boosts and long-term wellness. Dr. Lyon also promotes exercise as another way to stimulate muscle protein synthesis. More than just physical activity, adults need muscle-targeting exercises to ensure long-term health and decreased risk of chronic disease. Her patients include elite military operators such as Navy SEALS, Green Berets, Army Rangers and Canadian Assaulters, as well as everyday heroes and heroines who benefit from her whole-body, whole-person approach, including advanced nutrition interventions, metabolic and genetic testing and personalized behavioral action plans. Amina AlTai: “Your next level of success will not come from DOING more. It will come from being more you.” Amina is a Holistic Leadership & Mindset Coach and corporate trainer. She is the first social entrepreneur to successfully create a methodology that supports the health of a business and its people at the same time. Her journey has been illustrious. After starting her career in marketing at Cartier, she went on to co-found a marketing agency specifically to support emerging and growth-stage brands. After over 7 years of working on brands ranging from Samsung to Avene, MD SolarSciences and Supersmile as well as helping to launch over 30 start-ups, she went on to lead marketing efforts for Spafinder Wellness—the largest media and marketing company in the wellness space. She later took a post at Bliss as head brand integration officer—overseeing the product, spa and E-commerce businesses. Pretty major. Then, as you've heard her describe on her previous Forever FAB podcast interview, she hit a proverbial wall. That wall, that block was perhaps a blessing in disguise, a message, and maybe even a motivating impetus to help her fulfill her higher purpose-- that of helping to heal herself and the world. It's one of the many reasons why I connected with Amina; we both share the desire to make the world a more beautiful place. Recommendations/The F.A.B. Five according to Dr. Gabrielle Lyon: Have integrity; Treat people as you wish to be treated; Be truthful; Build an amazing community; Invest in your family. Episode Highlights The Power of Names It's worth mentioning that in honoring how people want to be addressed, we should be considerate of their pronouns and names. We lose some of our identity when people mispronounce our names. A lot of whitewashing happens around the names of people of color. People mispronounce Amina's first name more than her last name. Tune in to the full episode to hear about Rosie's childhood struggle with her name! How Amina Became a Coach Amina started her career in marketing and brand management. She worked in Corporate America for a while before putting up her own agency. In her late 20s, she was deeply codependent. Leading big teams and clients at her own expense led to a crash and burn. Amina developed two autoimmune diseases; that became her "stop" moment. It made her conscious of the choices she had been making. She then went on an "Eat, Pray, Love" year. She went back to school and studied coaching, nutrition, movement, and meditation to heal herself. She realized she had to figure out how to teach the things she learned. So, Amina went on to create a corporate wellness company. Learning How to Teach from the Fullness of Herself After starting the company, Amina realized she was teaching only from a part of herself. Amina started to reflect on how she could teach from the fullness of herself. She had a series of conversations with God about her purpose and mission. Her curriculum is for female leaders and women of color who want to step into their purpose. The work she has been doing is about woman empowerment and inviting women to come home to themselves. Serving from the place of cultural, familial, and societal programming creates a disconnect. Amina's work is about reconnection. Getting Invited to Look at Her Life We always get invitations to look at ourselves in different ways. But sometimes, we don't go deeper because we take it to mean something else. Amina's invitation came during her late 20s in the form of autoimmune diseases. The pivot in her early 30s was feeling depressed from an inner resistance. The Biggest Issue with Connecting with Our Sense of Woman Empowerment A barrier to connecting with woman empowerment is having full permission and feeling safe to show up in the fullness of your being. Brittany Packnett Cunningham's TED talk says we need community, curiosity, and permission to build confidence. Woman empowerment requires that we permit ourselves to feel our own greatness. We practice permission in the community through the lens of curiosity. Then, we take it to bigger stages and expressions. Building a Community During a Pandemic Amina is optimistic about seeing people again physically. Currently, she's living in a hybrid world where she meets with her clients and friends via Zoom and in-person. She loves being in a community and is ready for more. Amina hopes that the world will be supportive of that soon. What Wisdom Means to Amina Wisdom, for Amina, is the connection, trust, and collaboration with our Godself. She was disconnected from her Godself when she was starting her journey. Empirical data and information do not equal wisdom. Wisdom is measured by our soul and our relationship with spirituality and a higher power. The most transformational experiences for Amina in the last decade were her relationships with God, Godself, and wisdom versus knowledge. The Lessons Amina Teaches We teach the lessons we need most. The lessons that remain part of Amina's transformative process are choosing faith over fear and reaching freedom. Many women don't feel free. And this feeling interrupts our expression and success. Amina knows it's time to “do the work all over again” when she feels the lack of freedom stifling. She reflects on the areas she still needs to work around. Nourishing and Taking Care of Ourselves Many women feel like they have to give away everything they have. Amina thinks holistically about nourishing herself. It involves spirituality, food, movement, boundaries, finances, community, and more. The hours before 11 am is Amina's non-negotiable God time. It's part of her spiritual practice when she's cultivating her godliness. On Our Relationship with Money Money is deeply spiritual. It connects to everywhere, including our relationship with energy and food. Money isn't just about money; it's about what we can do and who we can help with it. We have to understand our lineage of belief around money. Then, we have to identify the relationship we want to create with it moving forward. Integrity with money is different for everyone. Amina is inviting people to get conscious of it. Women reinvest up to 80% of their money into communities and families. Meanwhile, men reinvest only around 30%. Amina's Practice with Money Amina's money practice is spiritual. The JARS system encourages you to have different jars for the valuable areas of your life. Then, you will redirect the percentages of money you earn into those jars. Through this system, you see the energy of growth and momentum. On a Woman's Guilt Around Attaining Financial Success Historically, it's new for women to have autonomy around money. We're healing decades of women's trauma around money in our generation. Women are still trying to figure out money, its energy, and what it looks like for them. What's Next for Amina It's always a joy and honor for Amina to meet women she's meant to work with. She is launching a corporate offering for men on how to support women in leadership. We need to educate the people around women so they can invest in women and in woman empowerment. Amina's Advice to Women Who are Figuring Things Out Start with the self. How can you support yourself? You can establish your relationship with yourself through journaling practice. We need to be on our own team first before reaching out to the community. How Amina Feels Radically Loved Amina feels radically loved every day, knowing that God has invited her every single step of the way. She knows that everything has been in service to her growth and the people she gets to teach. 5 Powerful Quotes [06:23] “Careers and expressions aren't linear. We get to follow the footprint of our soul and come home to ourselves. It doesn't have to look one way.” [13:00] “To build confidence, specifically for women, women of color, and marginalized communities, we need community, curiosity, and permission.” [16:24] “Our soul has so much wisdom. Our relationship to spirituality and a higher power, there's so much wisdom in there that we can carry forward.” [18:09] “If I were to synthesize my work into sound bites, it would be perpetually teaching to choose faith over fear, and how all of this work really is a conduit to freedom.” [31:59] “Establishing a connection with yourself first and foremost is one of the most powerful, loving, generous things we can do.” About Amina Amina AlTai is a leadership coach, holistic mindset and business coach, and corporate trainer. It's hard to walk away from a conversation with this week's guest on LOOKING UP and not feel empowered, inspired, and like asking yourself what your exceptional ability could be? Holistic Leadership and Mindset Coach Amina Altai is here! She shares with us her unorthodox journey into coaching, nutrition, movement, and mindfulness and the life-altering decisions she had to make in her late twenties when a doctor discovered 2 autoimmune diseases that could bring on multiple organ failure and how she shifted her career, her personal life, and her mindset to find fulfillment and joy in her new path. Amina also opened up about how going through the pandemic with a traumatic brain injury helped her hone in on her purpose, how she changed her relationship with time, broke down the myth around balance and not having it all, and we examined what showing up to our jobs, families, partners, and lives with integrity looks like. We talk through how the pandemic has affected women and how we can find empowerment in choosing to set a ball down instead of feeling like we're always about to drop one. Welcome back to BeREAL! This week we are rebroadcasting BeREAL's second live show all about mental and emotional wellbeing. Diana and Ednesha were joined by wellness experts Liz Buehler Walker, Amina AlTai, Krishna Dholakia, and Jennifer Kurdyla to answer the question: What does it mean to be well? After introductions, Ednesha jumps in to ask each of the women what it means to be well in regards to their specific disciplines. Diana says that wellbeing starts with putting thoughts and feelings into words so you can communicate your needs and wants. Amina defines wellbeing as a conduit to clarity. Jennifer adds on that the term “wellness” has been commercialized and prefers to use the term “holistic health.” She prefers this term also because it shows that wellbeing is so much more than the absence of illness. Next, Ednesha asks about how their work supports the mental and emotional wellbeing of clients. Amina says that changing mindsets is a big part of connecting business and wellness into one practice, as often they are viewed as opposites. When asked about the mental and emotional wellbeing of clients specific during the pandemic, Amina talks about her “minimal viable wellness plan”. There are many activities that are unavailable to us at the moment due to the pandemic, so setting big expectations of wellness for ourselves can actually add more stress into our lives. That is why Amina is looking to simplify wellness so it is easy to integrate into a daily routine without feeling overwhelmed. Some of these plans she has said are as short as 90 seconds. Diana continues the conversation about the pandemic by talking about returning to “normal life.” She has noticed that many people who lead big lives before the pandemic are hesitant to go back to that lifestyle now that restrictions are easing up. A lot of people found comfort with being at home, and that is a form of wellness they can bring into the future with them. It is important to be mindful that people have changed over this past year and should not be pressured to act or perform as they had prior to COVID. To finish off the episode, Ednesha asks about how the women practice wellness in their own daily routine. The guests tell their stories with yoga, with outdoor walks, and with various forms of rest and relaxation. Lastly, they all share their upcoming initiatives. Thank you for tuning in today! They talk about the way businesses are handling the current situation and provide examples of good business practices and other practices that are harmful for the wellbeing of their employees. The first of which is titled “Thriving in a Global Pandemic.” This course offers ways to deal with a lost job, a lost project, and other effects of COVID-19. Amina is a dear friend and mentor. Compassionate, sweet and wise she has the power of bringing to life any undertaking. On a mission to radically transform how we think about our work, Amina is in service as a business coach, speaker and wellness expert. She is the first social entrepreneur to successfully create a methodology which simultaneously supports the health of a business and its people. A decade in marketing and brand management and a fast-paced career led Amina to two autoimmune diseases and complete burnout. In hopes of healing her own life, she sought out training in nutrition, fitness and mindfulness and succeeded in regaining her health. This fueled her goal to teach others how to balance a thriving career with a healthy body and mind. If you want to learn more about Amina and her coaching practice please visit her website aminaaltai.com or follow her on instagram @aminaaltai Amina's Favorites: Lovely Amina what are your "keep my sanity"' essentials? My sanity essentials vary depending on how much time I have. But on a good day, I wake up early and meditate for 20-minutes (I'm a vedic meditator and have been trained with a specific vedic mantra). I follow that up with a kundalini practice. After meditation, I move my body (usually a mix of yoga, pilates, HIIT and spin). I find healthy movement to be so instrumental for me in processing emotion. I meditate again at 4pm for another 20 minutes. I usually end the day with a candle and quiet with an early bedtime to boot. Honestly, nothing says self care and sanity to me like going to bed at 9:30pm :) On a crazy day it looks like a whole lot less. Meditation is my non-negotiable so I always start my day with 20 minutes and do my second sitting in the afternoon—sometimes later than I'd like. And on these more condensed days, I will take 5-minutes and do something that brings me joy. Even if it's just reading a magazine, coloring or watching Friends, I have to have that in there to stay sane. What's your favorite workout? Ahh, so many. I love me some high intensity (for my high intensity Scorpio personality) and I used to be a spin teacher. My workouts are a mix of HIIT, spin, hot yoga and pilates. What is your non-negotiable self care routine or tool? Meditation. That is the one thing I cannot do without. Take away all my powders, adaptogens and practices, but me and meditation are for life. What is the best beauty / health / wellness advise a parent or family member has given you? I was born with a lot of fire and energy and I have a tendency to push myself really hard. My mom is super chill and used to tell me ALL THE TIME in high school that I should take "mental health days." I used to roll my eyes and be so annoyed at the suggestion of missing school (I was such a goodie goodie) but nowadays, I take them regularly. We need them. We need the opportunity to pause, recharge and reevaluate. Nothing can come through when we are heads down and pushing all the time.
“I’ve had the biggest breakthroughs in my life when I’ve just stood still.” - Amina AlTai (click to tweet) We’re told busy is better. Wake up, workout, hustle all day, burn the midnight oil on your side hustle—this is the routine for success. Or, that’s at least what we’re told. But it turns out when we follow this protocol and frantically run about town, the money doesn’t cannot find us When we instead choose to sit with our thoughts and breathe through the anxieties—we can more swiftly navigate the puzzles and challenges of our day-to-day. And that is when the true wealth comes flowing our way. Effect on Emotions [Mindfulness has] tremendously affected my emotions. I think life is always ebbing and flowing, right? And so it's up, it's down, it's up and it's down. And I think if we're not prepared, if we're not trained, if we're not mindful, we can go along on that rollercoaster so when life goes up, we go up, when life goes down, we go down. But mindfulness allows me to witness what's happening in my life without riding the rollercoaster and that is just tremendous. Thoughts on Breathing So anytime I do any sort of a speaking or presentation, I will make sure to layer in additional breathing exercises in addition to my meditation practice. There's so much research on how it mitigates performance anxiety and just bringing ourselves back to our breath is everything. You realize that you've been in a state of fight or flight all day trying to get a taxi, commuting, whatever it is, and then you bring yourself back to your breath and it's just this moment of profound stillness. Suggested Resources Book: A Pocket Guide To Mindfulness: (In 10 Steps) by Deidre Megan App: Keep Calm Studio www.KeepCalmStudio.com Bullying Story I was obese as a child and I was bullied really badly at school for my thighs and I wish at the time I knew that it wasn't about me. I wish that meditation would have helped me tremendously because instead of me clinging onto these ideas that I was terrible because of my weight and my size and what I looked like, I wish I would have been able to sort of watch these emotions, these thoughts, sort of as if I was a passer by. [I wish I could have imagined I was] just sitting on the sidewalk watching them go by. Instead I was clinging onto them and, and believing that this was to do with me and my identity. So, yes I wish I had known about mindfulness and meditation. Free Gift Get the brand new Awaken With Focus 12-Minute Guided Meditation by Bruce LangfordBe alert and focused after waking. Meet my dear friend Amina AlTai, 33 years young in this lifetime, with an ancient and wise soul. Our paths crossed again following a brief disconnect, and I'm ecstatic I get to see her lovely visage regularly during our coaching sessions (Amina is MY wellness and business coach... yes.. wellness coaches get coached too :) Please read below for our .LIVE Journal Q+A, and listen in as we discuss shedding light on your shadows, how what you hide owns you, and the direct link between nutrition and career performance. p.s If you're loving our podcasts, Arden and I would love you even more if you leave us a review :) Hi Amina! How would you define your occupation? Nourishment Expert, Healthy Business Coach. What's your nationality / background? Half Welsh, Half Iraqi. What were you favorite and least favorite foods mom cooked for you as a child? Favorite: Bamya... It's an Arab dish made with okra and lamb in a tomato sauce. That was my jam! Least favorite food: Anything with raisins. Why not just eat grapes?! I seriously didn't get them and used to tell my mom they "gave me a headache" so she wouldn't make me eat them. What is your favorite healthy home-made recipe? I eat pretty simply at home and I'm a creature of habit so I like to make things I can eat for a few days at a time. This time of year I like lots of soups and broths so I'm really into Red Lentil Bolognese. It's gluten free, vegan and super delish (in my humble opinion) Ingredients 1 cup red lentils 4 ripe tomatoes, chopped 2 cloves of garlic 1/2 onion, chopped 1 carrot, shredded 4 celery stalks, diced 1 cup veggie broth 4 tbs sundried tomato powder (or tomato paste) 1 tbs oregano 1 tsp fennel seeds 1 tsp black pepper 1 tsp chipotle powder Salt & pepper to taste Instructions Sauté onions, garlic, celery, carrots and tomatoes in 1 tbsp of olive oil over medium heat until tender, about 5-10 minutes. Add veggie broth to pan along with lentils and remaining spices. Continue to cook over medium heat until lentils are soft, about 30-45 minutes. You may serve this dish over spaghetti squash, quinoa, brown rice or on its own. “Whatever pulls you is pulling you for a good reason, so it's worth examining.” What are your "keep my sanity"' essentials? I have at least 4 baths a week—they are so key to my sanity! I'm also a Vedic meditator which really really helps in this busy city. Also, working out 4-5 times a week is my sweet spot and those are major stress busters for me! What was your favorite bonding activity you did with your mom as a child? We used to go on Sunday family hikes and those were always the best. I loved being out in nature with my parents and just running free. Great times. What has been the best beauty / health / wellness advice your mother has given you? Always wear sunscreen! I have much more melanin than my Welsh mom—but I'm not immune to sun damage. So, protecting my skin with hats, good quality sunscreen and a great skin care routine are clutch. What beauty / health / wellness advice will you pass on to your kids? If I have children, I would love for them to feel the same way about veggies that I do. But, I'd settle for them avoiding sugar. From wreaking havoc on skin, to brain health to type 2 diabetes, sugar really is the route of all evil. (Well, maybe not all, but a lot!) What is your go to / favorite workout? I'm super in HIIT but balanced out with yoga and spin. I love Switch Playground NYC and Modo for hot yoga. The. Best. What is your non-negotiable self care routine or tool? Sleep is everything to me. With two autoimmune diseases I try hard not to mess with it. It's so key not only for a well-functioning brain but in my case it really impacts my digestion. One beauty tool I'm obsessed with right now is my jade gua sha tool. It's amazing for depuffing, but allows for healthy lymphatic drainage in my face. I have Hashimotos thyroiditis and one of the side effects is swelling in my face. This tool works s
This is a really thoughtful episode. Gabe and executive coach Amina AlTai have basically a therapy session about somatic practices around finances, and reprogramming themselves out of harming themselves for work. Today I'm chatting with Amina AlTai, a holistic business and mindset coach and corporate trainer. She is the first social entrepreneur to successfully create a methodology that supports the health of a business and its people at the same time. Over a decade in marketing and grappling with a fast-paced career and two autoimmune diseases lead Amina to burnout. In hopes of healing her own life, she sought training in nutrition, fitness and mindfulness and her goal became to teach others how to balance a thriving career, body and mind. She takes a mind, body and business approach to coaching entrepreneurs—examining any blocks in the mindset, what our body needs for us to be successful in work and in life, along with the strategies and tactics we're using in our business to help us and our bottom lines thrive. In this episode, Amina shares her journey to wellness and how she overcame two autoimmune diseases through nutrition, lifestyle, and mindset changes. She shares her best tips for helping creative entrepreneurs overcome mental blocks through shadow work, stepping into their self-worth, and overcoming imposter syndrome.
