Hello Beastsiders!!  In our June edition of the Beastscast,we feature some jams influenced by the sway of summer (a jazzy opening by Yokohama's COSTA DE PALMA, and some streetcore anthems from DS455 and DJ Ryuuki).   Earlier this Spring, the U.S. was rocked by the Japan Nite Festival, including the New Earth Music Hall in Athens, GA which was covered by the Beasts From the East crew.  We'll have forthcoming videos from the 4 bands featured at the show, including Zarigani$, Vampillia, HAPPY, and Jungles (from Red Bacteria Vacuum). Hello Beastsiders!!  Today's episode is a grand return to our ongoing theme show series, THEMATIC For The People.  The theme here is music from the Street Fighter video game series by CAPCOM.  At the beginning of each set, you'll hear a remix of an SF composition---a lot of them covered in an interesting new musical style.  These fanmade remixes do great tribute to the originals, and take the works in fantastic new directions. Follwing the remix tunes are original Beastly tunes (linked by genre similarity in each set) to make a fun, organic blend of music.  Links for the artists are in the tracklist, and check out their wonderful work! Attention, Athens, Georgia!  The weekend of March 19-22 will mark the 2nd annual Sling Shot Festival. Sling Shot's spread is all over the downtown Classic City district, with many venues featuring music artists (such as Kishi Bashi and local favorites Elf Power), stand-up comedians (Doug Benson of "Super High Me" and "Last Comic Standing" fame, Jonah Ray--who's been behind the scene on The Andy Milonakis show and featured on The Sarah Silverman Program, and Atlanta's own Josh Harris), technology/new media showcases, and fantabulous exhibitions of art.   Of Beastly interest is the Saturday (3/21) event at New Earth Music Hall.  That evening will be the site of the touchdown of the nationwide Japan Nite 2014 tour, featuring a fresh crew of musicians! Headliners are the ever-entertaining Peelander-Z, and also providing awesome sounds are Jungles (of Bacteria Vacuum), Zargani$, Vampillia, and HAPPY.  You'll hear more about the JN show in this episode.  Check www.japan-nite.com for times and dates, and locations near you for the upcoming shows. You'll hear the Polite one talk fanboy, giving you the lowdown on 2 fine comic book shop in the Athens/Watkinsville areas (Bizarro Wuxtry and Mr. Comic Shop), and mention a great site to find comic book stores in your area. If you're a DC Comics/Justice League fan, pop open a side link for the fantastic and Lego-tastic fan production, "Justice League: Gods Among Us" by the marvelous OUTBACKPRIME PRODUCTIONS.  More on the project in this ep. Below is the tracklist for this episode, with links to the artists' sites/social media where highlighted.   Beasts will now be running an episode EVERY OTHER MONTH, and we thank you for keeping up with us. More interviews and videos will be up in the meantime. You're already here and listening, so we hope you enjoy the show!  Street Fighter = The title for great music and the importance of the quarter turn on your directional pad.  FIGHT!!!   ARTIST/SONG TITLE                                                                                 Kimengumi/tengal6_kimengumi_remix                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        INTRO                                                                                                                                    DJ Kariu/Guiles 20th anniversary Strange Sunset remix (Melodic Sunset)                                         RYU BLACK/Chun Li feat. Happy New Year Beastsiders!! Our first 2014 podcast is a streamlined sojourn through the sounds of Japan and the surrounding Far East as usual, and it kicks off with a track from Ms. Mari Iijima's recent "Eternal Forest" EP. New performers on our rotational roster include pop/soul sibling quartet bless4, fresh off a video interview they did with the Crew at Anime Weekend Atlanta 2014 (www.youtube.com/watch?v=lUDGEfokbZE). Portland-based Irish-Chinese chanteuse Illima Considine and her Sexbots stir every pot with their electrosensual music, preparing for a 3 city tour of Japan later this Spring (www.ilimaconsidine.com) We have a special "I Can't Believe They Went There Moment" via two J-producers putting their own spin on a record by The Cardigans (www.thecardigans.com). They are KYOTO(www.youtube.com/user/mktchanand) and Takeshi Endo (www.youtube.com/user/nekome777?feature=watch). While a bit slimmer on tracks in this mix, this Beastly brew is still high on quality and aural diversity. You'll also hear about a few interviews we've done in the winter hiatus, with entrepreneur/event planner/L.A. to Japan transplant rap warrior DAMU PENDA of INTERNATIONAL PARTY ROCKERS (www.vimeo.com/partyrockers) and the FIRST INTERNATIONL PLAYAZ (www.facebook.com/damupenda), and with Mrs. Mary Silver, volunteer and on-air promoter for the Chinese performance troupe SHEN YUN (www.shenyun.com), who performed in Atlanta last December. Both interviews are featured here on the Beasts podcast page. You'll hear about our friends at 1,000 Faces Coffee in Athens (www.1000facescoffee.com), as well as our sister radio show at WUOG 90.5 in Athens, Rising Sun Rhythms (www.facebook.com/rsrradio‎). In future shows, you'll hear about the awesome that is MR. COMIC SHOP in Watkinsville, GA. If you're a comic book fan of any degree, you owe to your fanboy (or fangirl) integrity to check out their selection. (www.facebook.com/MR.ComicShop‎) There is music and more for you to enjoy, and thank you to all the Beastsiders, both new and old listeners, for your patronage and click-action that led you here to our online hallowed programming halls. Listeners and denizens of North Georgia, the Chinese performance art group Shen Yun (http://www.shenyun.com) will be performing next weekend (12/25-12/27) at the Cobb Energy Centre in Atlanta (www.cobbenergycentre.com)! This is an interview with Mary Silver, one of Shen Yun's hardworking volunteers. Mary educates and entertains about the history of the Shen Yun group (and what they reveal about the history of China through song and dance), as well as the orchestra that accompanies them at concerts. You'll hear about about the international and stateside renown that Shen Yun has, and her own introduction to them. There is a sharp purpose to song and dance of Shen Yun, and Mary sheds light on it, and what audiences (with Oscar-nominated directors and actresses) have gotten out of it. If this sounds like something of interest either to you or someone you know who's possessed of a keen interest in Chinese/Asian culture, please share this interview with them, and keep an eye (or two) for the next Shen Yun show near you. Their 2014 season will commence in Houston, Texas, and they'll be in Georgia for a show in Augusta next March. Enjoy! (Special thanks go out to Mary, Jennifer, and Joy Zhou of the Shen Yun family!)

Hello listeners! Today's show features more of the J-Music and Asian music for your ear's pleasure, but is also a bulletin for some killer events going down. First off, the legendary Japanese-American fusion/jazz/soul/funk band Hiroshima will be heading to Atlanta's Chastain Park Ampitheatre alongside some fellow groove masters for the Sunset Jazz show on Saturday, August 17th. It starts at 6pm, and this episode is a mini-highlight reel of sorts, where you'll learn about the bands' roots, and here some of the fruitful jams of their 30+ year foray into making music. It's happening the weeekend of August 23-25. More info is available at www.mechacon.com (For Powers Rangers fans, the 20th anniversary of the series will be celebrated with actors from the various series in attendance!) In San Francisco, next Friday and Saturday (the 26th and 27th) will be host to NEW PEOPLE ENTERTAINMENT rocking Japantown with the J-POP SUMMIT FESTIVAL 2013. A lot of music acts (including Kyary Pamyu Pamyu), visual art masters, film premieres, and amusement park treats (including Hello Kitty Kawaii Town) will spice things up. You'll hear about it later in this ep, and you can check out www.j-pop.com/‎ for more info. This is the opening of a 3-part interview with Zack Wood, one of the creative forces behind the iPhone game app CAFE MURDER. It will hit the app store on 5/31, and will be FREE for download on 5/31 and 6/1. Part 1 covers what the CAFE MURDER game is about, and the story that it tells. Also, Sean recognizes that the game shares a similarity in theme to an old-school Atari title. More on that here, along with Zack's account of how a successful Kickstarter got the game started, though there was so much left to do. Part 2 is about Zack's time in Japan, and the experience in working in the JET Program, and how it led him to discover the world of manga. Through a one-of-a-kind history course, and a job as a tour guide, he found the roots of the work that would inspire the manga that has spun-off from the CAFE MURDER game. Part 3, for giggles, covers the ultimate sandwich---an important question to ask yourself as you toil through what will be an exciting. Last thing --- this Saturday in Atlanta, there will be a Release Party for the CAFE MURDER game at 489 Edgewood Ave, in Atlanta. There's a Facebook invite also, which you can find here (https://www.facebook.com/events/550134751703964/?fref=ts) Enjoy the interview, and know that while murder is a crime, it is no crime to enjoy CAFE MURDER!!

This May installment of Beasts gets off to a slick start via a track from Hood Sound affiliate HOKT (with production from DJ Honda) and his 2012 album "Galaxy" You'll hear a rework of a Billie Holliday song in the jazz set that follows, which includes a tune from Emi Tawata. Next up is a slammin' hip-hop detour, which introduces you listeners to MeccaGodZilla, who also goes by Ryu Black. He grew up like many on the Street Fighter video game series, and the track that you'll hear is a banger in tribute to the legacy of the series (particularly the 2nd game). He's the head of Manafest Vision Media, and you'll hear more about him and his team in this episode. DJ Deckstream and Shiro Matsuba (alongside some other artists) provide some higher aural ground immediately after, via sweeping, almost ghostly choruses and tight digitized arrangements. Takeshi Sakasegawa lends us some gorgeous strings, alongside Love Psychadelico and The Circlets. All this leads to a grand finale of rock n' roll proportions with Davina Robinson on leadoff, with bands ELEKIBASS and Tsu Shi Ma Mi Re providing added coverage. The closer for this episode is our good associate ZAZU TIMES TWO, who's contributed graphics excellence for the Touyou Kanon artwork since his introduction last year. This and more (including shot outs to a gifted culinary mind in Mr. Jack Scalfani, host of the webshow "Cooking With Jack" -- videos of his show are now available at www.CookingWithJack.com) make this edition of Beasts a special and spicy one. Today's episode took an extra while to surface with outside obligations, but the build has been worthwhile. You'll hear from our pals in THE SUZAN, fresh off their touchdown performance in Athens, GA at the 40 Watt Club for the Athens Slingshot Festival (http://www.athensslingshot.com). New to our scene are a pair of Yokohama based jazz artists. First off is vocalist Akiko Nakanowatari (http://www.geocities.jp/heartland7139jp/profile.html) and second is composer Yoshihiro Nakagawa (https://soundcloud.com/yoshihiro_nakagawa). We start with some atmospheric stomp, slide into sultry soul (with an added touch of K-music via Jin Young Park), jig with the aforementioned jazzymetrics, rock hard (with SAWA and Acid Black Cherry), get a little electronica-sual (Bioooo and Survice), and urban jam on home. You'll hear about what's been going in our hiatus, a fantastic new book from a first time Athens author, UGA's Japanese Conversation Club, and get another slice of aural heat from Mr. MurkDaddyFlex (http://murkdaddyflex.bandcamp.com/). Derek Adams is the author of the book SPELL/SWORD. Last year, I did an interview with him on my MOVERS AND SHAKERS PROJECT podcast, and he'd only tinkered with the idea of the book. It's a tale of fantasy, magic, and the friendship of two young people from different worlds. The pair are a boy and a girl. Each is possessed of a unique talent and potential which when combined with the other, yields a power that has only their imaginations as a ceiling. There is a blog for the book. It is http://spell-sword.com/ Derek needs your help. While a purchase of the book would validate his work (including a year's worth of editing and re-drafting, which you'll hear about in the podcast), he truly needs your consideration. The source material for the book is ongoing, and he wants to create a SPELL/SWORD series. Take a listen to the interview, and check out the book upon its' release. Mr. Adams is self-publishing, so it will be a direct process. He is inspired by the stories and authors of our mutual youths, and you'll hear him discuss some of his favorites (as well as the damning excellence of a masterwork from over 50 years ago, which he's avoided). I brought some books of mine along, which Derek riffs on to the utmost levels of entertainment. Enjoy the interview, check out SPELL/SWORD, and if you want to hear where this Q&A adventure began, here's the link to the original Movers and Shakers Interview: https://www.facebook.com/#!/notes/sean-polite/the-movers-and-shakers-project-segment-8-derek-adams/10150918037207704 On behalf of Mr. Adams, thanks for your time (R.I.P. Happy Belated New Year! Our apologies for the delay on this episode, but we've come ready with awesome diety power level music for you and yours! Our first 2013 episode kicks off with a promo banger from one of our chairmen behind the boards, FFGreen (http://ccmixter.org/people/FFGreen). The first song is from the sweet sound wonders of the D.C./NYC area, Exit Clov, headed up vocally by Taiwanese-American sisters Emily and Susan Hsu. It's a biting piece doused in sonic sugar which goes down nice. They have a new album on the way also, so stay tuned for updates on the street release (www.exitclov.com/) On the J-music end native to us is the longtime Touyou Kanon supporter, Ogre You Asshole. We interviewed on our WUOG radio show many moons ago, and dole out one of their rock tunes in this episode. The duo of Nagisa Ni Te offers a touch of psychadelica with their tune. DJ PMX (producer/DJ for DS455) strikes out on his own with a summer slick collabo featuring Joystickk, Kowichi, Zang Haozi and Jay'ed). He offers up another slice of funk at the end of the show. WARDRUMZ, courtesy of RIZING SUNS ENTERTAINMENT brings some hip-hop heat as well, while Jazzin' park offers a touch of...well, jazz(and the gourgeous vocals of Emi Tawata) There's remixes and cover songs here also, and a touch of Deutschland urban music on a standout offering which is this episode's "I Can't Believe They Went There" moment. Other new artists in the TK mix are Rock n' Soul Powerhouse Davina Robinson, who's performed backup for Ray Parker Jr. ("Ghostbusters") and Cheryl Lynn ("Got To Be Real"). She's the frontwoman for a massive rock and soul movement that has swept Japan by storm. She's in a contest being sponsored by The Hard Rock Cafe. More deets in the episode. Please enjoy this episode, and spread the word on Touyou Kanon. Although a tad late on the start, we're bringin' it in 2013! Prepare to hear the alluring sounds bubbling under the surface of Japan in this episode!
