Today our host Bethany sits down with guest, Carol Enns, for the final episode of Season 9: Fulfilled. Together they bring to light yet another Old Testament prophecy fulfilled by the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. Carol shares about the covenant God made with Abraham, promising to make him a father to many nations. Listen along to hear how God, in the work of blessing all of the nations of the world through His Son, also blesses each one of us and calls us to join Him in this work.It is our prayer that Season 9 of the DWITW Podcast has encouraged you to see God at work in the big story of the Bible. May God give you peace and assurance from this series of examples of our good Father keeping His promises.Carol wants to live in a world where Jesus' name is honored and communities are transformed by His love. When she's not teaching little ones in the school gym at St. Anthony’s, she's out for a run or bike ride in Oakwood with a neighbor or her husband Harv. Her favorite Scripture is Philippians 2: 8-11: “Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”On this episode, Carol shares about Perspectives on the World Christian Movement. The next local Perspectives course will be offered this winter at Fairhaven Church on Tuesday evenings, 6:30-9:15, beginning January 12, 2021. A morning class will also be offered during this season at Patterson Park Church. Visitors are welcome to attend the first two classes. Host Bethany welcomes this week’s guest, Catherine Hernando, to Fulfilled on the DWITW Podcast for a discussion about Jeremiah’s prophecy that the Messiah would be the victim of a murderous plot. Bethany and Catherine trace themes of exile and return, hostility and reconciliation, and division and unity throughout the big story of the Bible— all leading us right to the cross, to the hope we have in Jesus.Catherine is passionate about adventurously chasing the impulses of the Spirit and seeking out the paths imprinted by God’s manifest presence. When she’s not at Apex morning prayer, at coffee shops working on theology, or exploring ways to capture the narrative texture of mission and discipleship on the @walkingwithheroes platform, you can find her with her neighborhood “framily” out on the streets of east Oakwood amidst a cacophonous tribe of children. Catherine is learning a lot from Paul about strength in weakness in this season of life (2 Corinthians 12:9).Podcast Navigation:0:00 Introduction1:25 Meet Catherine2:15 Prophecy of The Murderous Plot Giving Way to Hope2:40 Context of the Prophecy5:20 Old Testament References16:00 New Testament Fulfilment25:00 What This Fulfillment Says About God27:15 Last EncouragementsOn this episode, Bethany and Catherine discuss the following references and resources:Jeremiah 31Jeremiah 31:15-16Genesis 4Genesis 35:18Matthew 2:16-18Ephesians 2:11-19*Reference Disclaimer: All references made by podcast guests are of their own accord. This week on Fulfilled, Season 9 of the DWITW Podcast, Kate Hutson joins us to shed light on the messianic prophecy found in Isaiah 7. Bethany and Kate discuss the lineage of Jesus and the importance of the prophecy of the Messiah being born of a virgin. Tune in to learn how God fulfilled this prophecy through the circumstances of Jesus’ birth, and what this means for us as those born again into the family of God today.Kate wants to live in a world where everyone knows their own God-given gifts and is confidently rocking them. When she's not hanging with her crew of four littles (ages 5 and under), you can find her on a walk, moving her body, or hiding away somewhere void of toddler noise for moments of PEACE.Her favorite Scripture changes in every season of life, but is currently Hebrews 12:1-3: "Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us rid ourselves of every burden and sin that clings to us and persevere in running the race that lies before us while keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus, the leader and perfecter of faith. For the sake of the joy set before Him he endured the cross, despising its shame, and has taken his seat at the right of the throne of God. Consider how he endured such opposition from sinners, in order that you may not grow weary and lose heart."You can connect with Kate on Instagram @katemhutson and on Facebook at Revelation Wellness- Dayton, OH.Podcast Navigation:0:00 Introduction1:30 Meet Kate2:45 The Prophecy of The Messiah Being Born of a Virgin8:45 Additional Context14:50 Jesus’ Two Lineages20:00 The Prophecy’s Fulfillment26:15 The Importance of this Fulfillment29:30 What This Says About God31:00 Last EncouragementsOn this episode, Bethany and Kate discuss the following references and resources:Isaiah 7Isaiah 7:11-16Matthew 1:1-17Luke 3:23-38Matthew 1:22-23Luke 1:31-35Luke 1:38*Reference Disclaimer: All references made by podcast guests are of their own accord. This week on the DWITW Podcast, Bethany and our guest, Erika, dig into the messianic prophecy written in Psalm 118:22. They discuss the great importance of the cornerstone in a physical building— “the first stone that was laid… it bore all the weight and the stress,” and the rejection of the True Cornerstone by the leaders of Jesus’ day. Follow along as they trace the story of the cornerstone and the temple through God’s greater story in the Bible.Erika wants to live in a world where people slow down and take the time to really listen to each other, preferably somewhere outdoors! When she’s not at home or adventuring with her family, you can find her at the piano or with a book and a strong cup of coffee. One of her lifelong favorite scriptures is Psalm 27:14: "Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; wait, I say, on the Lord!"Podcast Navigation:0:00 Welcome & Introduction1:25 Meet Erika2:20 The Prophecy of the Rejected Cornerstone3:15 Context & Meaning6:30 Old Testament Application12:15 New Testament Fulfilment14:00 Reception of the Fulfillment19:15 What This Fulfillment Means to Erika24:15 What It Shows About God’s Character27:40 Last EncouragementsOn this episode, Bethany and Erika discuss the following references and resources:Psalm 118:22Hallel PsalmsMatthew 21Acts 4The Book of 1 PeterIsaiah 8:14Ephesians 2The Book of HebrewsBetter: A Study of Hebrews, by Jen WilkinJob 38:2Psalm 125*Reference Disclaimer: All references made by podcast guests are of their own accord. While busyness and hurry seem to be our normal way of life, we invite you to slow down this week to listen to the newest episode of Fulfilled with our guest, Cindy Green. Bethany and Cindy walk through the theme of Sabbath and rest found from the beginning to the end of our Bibles. Enjoy this enlightening conversation, and find comfort in knowing the Lord has modeled rest and calls us to follow Him in practicing it. Listen in to learn about examples of Sabbath rest throughout both the Old and New Testaments, and how Jesus came to become our True Sabbath Rest.Cindy wants to live in a world where every human soul feels loved, cherished and valued. When she’s not cleaning or doing laundry, you can find her running. Her favorite scripture is 2 Corinthians 4:16-18: “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.“Podcast Navigation:0:00 Introduction1:30 Meet Cindy2:30 The Prophecy of Sabbath Rest7:30 The Context of this Prophecy21:00 Examples in New Testament30:00 What this Prophecy Has Taught Cindy33:30 What this Prophecy Says About God37:15 Last EncouragementsOn this episode, Bethany and Cindy discuss the following references and resources:The Bible Project Podcast, “7th Day Rest - Sabbath” SeriesGenesis 1Genesis 2:15Leviticus 23Leviticus 25Isaiah 61Luke 4Matthew 12:1-3Matthew 11:25-30*Reference Disclaimer: All references made by podcast guests are of their own accord. On today’s episode of Fulfilled, guest Esther Hyland joins our host, Bethany Sibbitt to discuss the prophecy of the willing sacrifice found in Isaiah 53. Be encouraged by the hope and assurance we have in Christ, and the magnitude of God’s love for His people displayed by Jesus. It is our prayer that His fulfillment of this prophecy will build up your faith and cause you to sense the deep love of our Father-- especially during this difficult season.Esther wants to live in a world where the Church meets needs so radically that programs like foster care or food stamps are no longer necessary. When she is not mothering her bio and foster children or leading worship through song, you can find her performing in one of Dayton’s theatre companies, where she seeks to bring the gospel to the local arts community. Esther’s favorite ways to recharge are enjoying good books and taking long walks out in nature. Her favorite books of this year so far include “None Like Him: 10 Ways God is Different From Us and Why That’s a Good Thing” by Jen Wilkin and “You Are The Girl For The Job” by Jess Connolly. One of Esther’s favorite Bible passages is 2 Corinthians 12:9-10: “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. Today Bethany wraps up Season 7 of the DWITW podcast with Kasey Parr. They talk about how Rural Ohio Women in the Word began, how Kasey came to believe the Good News for herself, and how God has been faithful to use the unexpected for her good and His glory.Kasey wants to live in a world where there are no more tears, and no more pain. When she's not spending time with her wonderful husband and four amazing children, you can find her reading a good book or studying her Bible. Her Bible has really come alive to her, in the last few years, thanks to some of the tools she learned from Dayton Women in the Word. After spending time with her sisters at DWITW, God placed a desire in her heart to start a ministry in rural Ohio (Rural Ohio Women in the Word) to encourage other women in their pursuit of Jesus Christ. It is a two-fold ministry: teaching Bible study tools through Bible study and encouraging women in their walk with Jesus by hosting events that target areas with which women wrestle. As this ministry grows ROWITW hopes to provide Bible study resources, blog posts, podcasts, and whatever the Lord lays upon their team's heart to share with women. Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” is a Scripture that really encourages Kasey's heart. God gave her this verse when she was going through a very difficult season. This verse helped Kasey to walk through this challenging period. Knowing God is always with her gives Kasey great comfort. You can connect with Kasey via her personal blog, Facebook, or Instagram. You can also connect with her via the Rural Ohio Women in the WordFacebook page, Facebook group, or Instagram.
Kalie McDonald joins Bethany on the DWITW podcast to discuss the love story that is the Gospel and how the love of God can transform any and every aspect of life. The ladies encourage us to remember God’s love for us reaches into the mundane day-to-day spaces of our lives with the same tenderness and intensity that led Jesus to the cross on our behalf.Kalie is a lover of Jesus and people...and coffee, lots of it. She is a wife, mama, and physical therapist. Her favorite pastime is walking in nature with a friend, coffees in hand, gushing about Jesus. You can connect with her on Facebook or check out her blog herejoicesoverme.com.
Prepare to be encouraged today, friends! Bethany sits down with Flor Yuhas to chat about the transforming power of the Gospel, the importance of prayer, and the value of taking time to genuinely listen to others. When she is not taking care of patients, she is taking care of children. She enjoys antiques, visiting flower gardens, and hanging out with her family - especially her four granddaughters! One of Jennifer’s favorite verses is Ecclesiastes 12:13, “The end of the matter; all has been heard.
