Sean Hoban was co-founder and former CEO of Kimble Applications, a leading professional services automation (PSA) software for organizations to manage their professional services business's entire operational and financial lifecycle. Sean and his co-founders had already started, grown, and sold a pro services organization before creating a PSA product and building a SaaS business. With a little funding from the founders and a few angel investors, Kimble started efficiently and grew steadily, eventually raising a practical minority funding round from private equity investors Accel-KKR in 2018. The company grew to $30M ARR before selling most of the company to Accel-KKR in 2021, which merged two PSA companies to create Kontata. In this episode, Sean discusses some of their deepest strategic opportunities: Learning to grow a SaaS business versus a professional services organization Building on the Salesforce platform and working in that ecosystem Starting in the UK and expanding to Germany and the US Quote from Sean Hoban, former CEO and co-founder of Kimble Applications “One of the most powerful ways I learned as a CEO is to find and talk to other founders in London who were in a similar situation. We would meet for beers, share ideas, and chat on WhatsApp. “If you have a specific problem, it was valuable to talk to other founders in the same growth stage. And these were founders, not hired CEOs. “It's a lonely job as a CEO. And being able to talk to somebody else who is in a similar position can be cathartic and very helpful.” Links Sean Hoban on LinkedIn Kantata on LinkedIn Kantata SX (formerly Kimble Applications) website Accel-KKR website The Practical Founders Podcast Tune into the Practical Founders Podcast for weekly in-depth interviews with founders who have built valuable software companies without big funding. This episode of The Final Percent podcast features an interview with Dr. Rewire, a specialist in brain rewiring, who discusses his unique approach to helping people optimize their lives through personalized DNA testing. Dr. Rewire explains the concept of neuro flexibility, the ability to control the nervous system's on/off switch, and how his DNA test analyzes key areas like mindset, motivation, relationships, stress response, and sleep to provide individuals with a "code" or blueprint for understanding their brain's unique functioning. The conversation delves into the practical applications of this knowledge, using host Greg's own DNA test as an example to illustrate how personalized insights can inform decisions about exercise, diet, and daily routines. Beyond personal optimization, the podcast also touches on broader health concerns, including the overuse of supplements and medications, advocating for a holistic approach that prioritizes understanding individual needs and promoting long-term well-being.

Missouri state Rep.-elect Nick Kimble didn't have to go through an arduous primary or general election to get to Jefferson City. The St. Louis Democrat ran unopposed in the primary to succeed state Rep. Donna Baringer in Missouri's 82nd House District, which takes in a southwest portion of the city. That basically sealed Kimble's election since the district is heavily Democratic. But as Kimble noted on a recent episode of the Politically Speaking podcast, the 82nd District features perhaps the largest concentration of Republicans in the city of St. Louis. And that gives him a different perspective on how to represent the area in Jefferson City. “Growing up in the district, I knew a lot of those Republicans,” Kimble said. “I went to school with them. I was friends with their kids, I mowed their lawn, I delivered pizzas. So I think that helps. I consider myself a center left and moderate person. I don't go around to the fish fries or various things on the Hill in South City talking about partisan issues or partisan politics.”

Areas with predominantly Black populations, especially inner cities, have been intentionally divested from for decades. How do we reinvest in those areas without displacing that same population, given the reality of the political and economic system we live in today? Anthony Kimble joins us to discuss exactly that.If bank presidents, government leaders, and every seat of power that created divested areas decided to intentionally reverse those actions, then the problem would be solved. But that's probably not going to happen any time soon. So how, as real estate professionals, do we do our part?Anthony gives us his perspective as a successful developer in Baton Rouge, including the importance of starting with small projects. He lays out a passionate but grounded case for how we need to unite and build long-lasting economic and political power. Diverse Voices Book Review host Hopeton Hay interviewed Megan Kimble, author of CITY LIMITS: Infrastructure, Inequality, and the Future of America's Highways. CITY LIMITS examines the impact of urban highways on American cities. In the interview, Kimble discussed how highways were sold as progress in the 1950s and 60s, driven by car companies and oil industries. She argues that highways often disproportionately affect black and brown communities, citing examples like Houston's Fifth Ward. She also addresses the paradox of increased traffic due to induced demand and the environmental and economic costs of car-centric cities. Kimball advocates for the removal of urban highways to create more equitable and sustainable urban spaces.Diverse Voices Book Review Social Media:Facebook - @diversevoicesbookreviewInstagram - @diverse_voices_book_reviewTwitter - @diversebookshayEmail: hbh@diversevoicesbookreview.com

The Fugitive (1993) is one of those films that perfectly encapsulates the tension and pulse-pounding excitement of a great action-thriller. Directed by Andrew Davis and starring Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones, this movie has earned its spot as a quintessential ‘90s action film, but it does more than just deliver spectacular stunts and edge-of-your-seat chases. At its core, The Fugitive is a cat-and-mouse game wrapped in a deeper story of justice, survival, and determination. The film explores themes of innocence and perseverance, driven by dynamic performances and sharp direction.Harrison Ford stars as Dr. Richard Kimble, a Chicago vascular surgeon falsely accused of murdering his wife. The movie opens with a gripping flashback to the fateful night of her death, immediately setting a tense and moody tone. This tension carries through the entire film as Kimble's stoic, determined search for the truth parallels Deputy U.S. Marshal Samuel Gerard's relentless pursuit. The Performances: A Duel Between Ford and JonesHarrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones's powerhouse performances are The Fugitive's heart. Ford's portrayal of Dr. Kimble gives the character a sympathetic resilience. His understated but deeply emotional approach perfectly embodies a man thrown into extraordinary circumstances. Throughout the movie, you can feel Kimble's grief and frustration bubbling beneath the surface, but Ford keeps him controlled, focused, and believable. He's not an action hero in the typical sense—he's a regular man, resourceful and clever, but constantly on the run, thinking a step ahead while navigating an impossible situation.Tommy Lee Jones, on the other hand, is a force of nature as U.S. Marshal Gerard. His Oscar-winning performance is pure intensity, but with just the right touch of humour and wit to make him endlessly watchable. Jones takes what could have been a by-the-numbers antagonist role and breathes life into it. His portrayal of Gerard is marked by unrelenting professionalism—he's laser-focused on catching Kimble. Yet, you sense that he also respects him, even though they're on opposite sides of the law. Gerard's famous line, “I don't care,” when Kimble claims his innocence, perfectly encapsulates the no-nonsense persona Jones brings to the character. Gerard's dedication is to his job, not the morality of Kimble's situation.Cinematography and Direction: Crafting the ChaseAndrew Davis' masterful direction makes The Fugitive 1993 stand out even more. The movie's pacing is relentless, rarely giving the audience a moment to breathe. From the spectacular train crash sequence early in the film to the tense scenes in the Chicago streets, Davis keeps the momentum driving forward, heightening the stakes at every turn. The cinematography by Michael Chapman plays a crucial role in this, adding layers of visual tension. The film moves from one vividly captured location to the next, whether it's the urban sprawl of Chicago or the more rural, rugged terrain where Kimble initially escapes. Chapman often uses tight, claustrophobic shots of Kimble on the run to amplify the sense of desperation, juxtaposed with wide, sweeping shots that emphasize just how much ground the protagonist needs to cover to clear his name. The urban chase scenes through Chicago are particularly well-staged, providing the sense that Kimble could be found at any moment, hiding in plain sight in a city that's both his home and a trap.A Puzzle That Unfolds Layer by LayerThe Fugitive is not just a film about a chase—it's also a puzzle. The mystery surrounding Kimble's wife's murder slowly unravels as Kimble follows leads, figures out motives, and pieces together the conspiracy that led to his false imprisonment. The screenplay, adapted from the 1960s television series of the same name, does an excellent job of weaving this investigative element into the broader action. This adds an intellectual dimension to the film, as Kimble uses his medical expertise and calm under pressure to unearth the truth while dodging his pursuers. In this sense, The Fugitive becomes more than just a typical thriller. There's a deeper story here about corruption and greed, as Kimble discovers that his wife's murder was connected to a pharmaceutical conspiracy involving his colleagues. The narrative has enough twists and turns to keep viewers engaged without becoming too convoluted. By the time we reach the climax, all the pieces fall into place, but it's the journey getting there that makes the movie so compelling.A Movie That Stands the Test of TimeOne of the reasons The Fugitive 1993 remains a classic is how well it holds up today. Many action films from that era can feel dated due to over-the-top effects or exaggerated performances, but The Fugitive strikes a timeless balance. The action is realistic, the story grounded, and the performances nuanced enough that the film never feels out of place, even three decades later.Part of the movie's lasting appeal is its restraint—there are no unnecessary explosions, no overly dramatic set-pieces for the sake of spectacle. Instead, every action sequence feels earned, serving the narrative rather than distracting from it. The film's iconic train crash, for example, was created with practical effects, making it feel raw and visceral compared to today's CGI-heavy action movies. That dedication to realism is something that still resonates with audiences.Additionally, the themes of justice and redemption are universal. Dr. Kimble's fight to clear his name is one that people can relate to, even if the stakes aren't as high in their own lives. His resourcefulness, grit, and unwavering moral compass are qualities that continue to make him a hero worth rooting for. At the same time, Gerard's determination and professionalism make him more than just an antagonist—he's a protagonist in his own right, leading to a rare instance where both the hunter and the hunted are equally captivating.Impact on Pop CultureThe Fugitive 1993 has had a significant impact on pop culture, not just for its thrilling story but also for its memorable lines and characters. Tommy Lee Jones' Gerard has become a benchmark for the relentless lawman archetype, and the movie's famous line, “I don't care,” continues to resonate in countless tributes and homages. The movie was a box-office success and earned multiple Academy Award nominations, including a Best Picture nod—rare for an action-thriller of its kind. Its influence is still felt in the genre today, as many films and TV shows borrow from its style of combining action with mystery. Even modern cat-and-mouse stories owe a debt to The Fugitive, proving its lasting relevance in the world of cinema.ConclusionThe Fugitive 1993 is a masterclass in tension, storytelling, and performance. Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones are perfectly matched as two men on opposite sides of the law, and the film's relentless pacing and engaging mystery make it a gripping watch from start to finish. Even after all these years, it remains one of the best examples of how to craft a smart, exhilarating action-thriller that keeps the audience guessing while delivering plenty of heart-pounding moments. For fans of intelligent, character-driven suspense, The Fugitive is a must-watch.Please follow the Podcast and join our community at https://linktr.ee/borntowatchpodcasthttps://www.borntowatch.com.au/
Dave has gone for an iconic action thriller this week with The Fugitive! The production of The Fugitive (1993) was a complex and ambitious endeavor, led by director Andrew Davis. The film was adapted from the 1960s television series of the same name, and the script underwent several rewrites to craft a narrative that balanced action, drama, and character development. The filmmakers aimed for a realistic tone, emphasizing practical effects over CGI, which is evident in the film's most memorable set piece—the train crash sequence. This scene was shot using a real train and bus in North Carolina, and it became one of the most expensive practical stunts at the time. The meticulous planning and execution of this scene set the tone for the film's commitment to authenticity and heightened tension, and it became a hallmark of the movie's production. Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones were central to the film's success, both bringing a level of intensity and commitment that elevated the material. Ford performed many of his own stunts, enhancing the realism of the action scenes. Meanwhile, Jones' portrayal of U.S. Marshal Samuel Gerard was so impactful that it led to an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. The film was shot on location in Chicago and various other locations, including the Smoky Mountains for the opening escape sequence. The production team's attention to detail, combined with Davis's direction and the strong chemistry among the cast, helped The Fugitive stand out as a taut and compelling thriller. The film's combination of innovative stunts, strong character work, and a gripping storyline made it a critical and box-office success, solidifying its place in 1990s cinema. Ian and David are on the hunt for the perfect thrilling summer blockbuster--and have traveled all the way back to 1993's The Fugitive! In Andrew Davis' Academy Award-nominated adaptation of the 1960s TV show, Harrison Ford stars as Dr. Richard Kimble--a famous surgeon wrongfully accused of killing his wife (Sela Ward). Set free by a catastrophic accident during his prison transport, Kimble sets out to clear his name by finding the mysterious one-armed man who actually committed the murder. He's beset by a team of U.S. Marshals, led by the dogged and calculating Sam Gerard (Tommy Lee Jones), whose pursuit of his prey knows no compromise. In this loving and spoilerific look-back, the guys praise The Fugitive for being the kind of serious (and seriously exciting) big-budget entertainment Hollywood refuses to make anymore; puzzle over the movie's wild "Illinois" geography; and plow through the film's numerous "errors".Plus: Ian evades capture by changing his appearance live on camera!Subscribe, like, and comment to the Kicking the Seat YouTube channel, and check out kickseat.com for multiple movie podcasts each week!Show LinksWatch The Fugitive (1993) trailer.Pick up The Fugitive on 4K UHD Blu-ray from Warner Bros.Speaking of Chicago institutions, here's your reminder that the 11th Chicago Critics Film Festival has taken over the Music Box Theatre! Megan Kimble is the former executive editor of The Texas Observer and has written for The New York Times, Texas Monthly, and The Guardian. Her new book is City Limits: Infrastructure, Inequality, and the Future of America's Highways. “I have never lived in a city that was not wrapped in highways. It's hard for me to imagine anything else. And I think that's true for a lot of people today. ... [But] we have known since the origins of the interstate highways program that building highways through cities doesn't fix traffic. And yet we keep doing it. To me, that really fueled a lot of the book. It wasn't supposed to be this way.” Show notes: @megankimble megankimble.com Kimble on Longform Kimble's Texas Observer archive 11:00 Kimble's Austin Monthly archive 13:00 “Austin's Not-So-Fair Housing Market” (Austin Monthly • Sept 2018) 49:00 “The Road Home” (Texas Observer • July 2021) Learn more about your ad choices. In three short years my guest today, John Kimble, went from robbing homes, committing felonies and doing drugs to understanding how to positively motivate himself and others. He remembers this song because the crowd he was surrounding himself, is who introduced him to it. At that time he loved the vibe it gave off. It was like a hype song for them before they misbehaved. But now? Now? Let's just say his dad wasn't happy with what John had been up to so he was punished with early wake-ups and going to work with his dad. John can see this as his father's love now and appreciates what he did for John. John considers Wess Watson his mentor. "Once you are aligned on that path and you're listening to someone else who is on that path, it's collective conscience." I was so blown away by the wisdom this Eighteen-Year-Old shared that I wrote down SEVENTEEN quotes. Just good advice for me to continue to reflect on. John said, "Age is in wisdom not in numbers." And he is proof of that! Full Show Notes

In this episode of the Label Free Podcast, host Deanna Radulescu interviews John Kimble, a fitness trainer and life coach with a powerful story of transformation. John shares his journey from a life of criminal activity, psych wards, and felonies to becoming a beacon of hope for others. Despite having a good family and upbringing, John was easily influenced and found himself drawn to the adrenaline rush of being a gangster. This led him down a path of crime, addiction, and even attempted suicide. However, a moment of reflection and the realization of the pain he was causing his loved ones prompted John to make a change. He turned to intense physical action, such as boxing and fitness training, as a way to distract himself from negative thoughts and find a higher frequency. Now, as a fitness trainer and life coach, John focuses on helping men overcome their vices and find purpose in their lives. He believes that physical fitness is a gateway to a positive mindset and offers valuable insights and guidance to his clients. Despite being labeled a sociopath at one point, John has proven that change is possible and that he can help others transform their lives as well.
