What is a Trigger Point: A susceptible spot that, when touched, causes considerable pain that totally or partly coincides with pain in a specific muscle or group of muscles that are in dysfunction. Most trigger points can be located by slightly stretching the muscle causing the pain. The spot where you feel a pull or tightness while doing a simple stretch is usually the location of the trigger point. Treatment For Trigger Points: Locate the tender muscle band by gently rubbing your fingers across the muscle fibers, searching for a tender spot. It can be anywhere from the size of a BB to the size of a bean and press! Some muscles may need to be squeezed in addition to or instead of being pressed. You can rub the muscle between your thumb and fingers to find the tender point. Treatment Time For Trigger Points: Treatment time is short, no more than 1-2 min. Chiropractic manipulation of the cervical spine is a safe and effective treatment.
