What does it mean when a piece of art “has it”? When you hear people say, “I get it”? To someone who doesn't understand abstract art, it can feel like everyone else is speaking a language you don't — but I'm here to break down what makes abstract art great. The truth is, abstract art is about so much more than technique and skill. They're important, sure, but there's something much greater at play. It all comes down to doing the inside work before you get to work on the canvas. It's about sharing the message that only you can share!  That's what can make abstract art speak directly to people — even when there's nothing “physical” represented on the canvas. But how can you, as an artist, tap into your most-important message and share it on a canvas? Struggle with procrastination? In this episode of the Habits & Hustle podcast, Jennifer admits she is a natural procrastinator, especially when it comes to things she doesn't enjoy doing or things she thinks she is bad at doing. Although, the reality of life is that we aren't going to be good at everything and we also aren't going to enjoy doing everything–but we still have to do it. So, how do we overcome this and learn to break our toxic procrastination patterns? If you can relate, get ready for Jennifer to share her best Habits & Hustle tips. She explores the different parameters she has implemented into her everyday life that have greatly changed the way she tackles tasks. She also explains how procrastination can be detrimental to our self esteem, how overcoming procrastination needs to become a habit, and the little things she does to eliminate distractions All the tips Jennifer shares are simple, tangible, and available to you at any time for whenever you're ready to start tackling your procrastination, too. What's discussed: 0:00 - Introduction to procrastination 1:45 - How some people don't have time to procrastinate 2:05 - Why we procrastinate on the things we're bad at 2:53 - How to make big tasks feel less daunting 3:37 - Getting things done first thing in the morning 4:39 - The correlation between procrastination and self esteem 5:59 - How to eliminate distractions 7:44 - Utilizing time blocking 8:30 - Tell us what you think in the Facebook group! Key Takeaways: You procrastinate less when you break things down into smaller, sizable chunks. If something feels daunting to you, instead of thinking about the daunting task at hand, reframe the way you think about it by focusing on getting a small piece of it done today. The smaller you can break up your task, the less daunting it will end up feeling. Procrastination is one of the simplest ways to destroy your self esteem and being your own accountability partner is one of the best ways to build your self esteem. If you make sure you do the things that you tell yourself you're going to do and do them completely, you'll feel a sense of accomplishment, and that leads to building real self confidence. Put all the hard things you need to get done at the start of your day. Don't allow yourself to do anything else until you have fully completed these tasks. Turn this into a habit: Tackle the uncomfortable things first before falling into doing what feels comfortable. Key Things Discussed: Why "the system" sets moms up for struggle and how to combat it Willow vs. Elvie - pros and cons depending on your job Balancing work as a new mom if you're an independent contractor or self-employed Managing big emotions when you're separated from your kid Pressures and guilt surrounding breastfeeding and returning to work Reasonable accommodations in the workplace and tips on how to navigate The importance of finding supportive childcare and the benefits of shared parenting roles are also highlighted A funny story about Megan not being allowed to go into Disneyland How advocating for yourself in the workplace helps the mothers ahead of you Not feeling guilty about using formula and how it improves mental health Takeaways Pumping at work can be a major challenge for working moms, and finding the right breast pump is crucial. Balancing work and family priorities requires making accommodations and setting boundaries. Mothers should not feel guilty about their choices regarding breastfeeding and should do what works best for them and their babies. Finding supportive childcare is essential for working moms, and the quality of childcare can greatly impact a mother's peace of mind. The lack of support for mothers in the workplace is a systemic issue that needs to be addressed. Traveling with kids can be challenging due to the lack of support and accommodations in public spaces. Going back to work as a mother can be difficult, but advocating for oneself and suggesting accommodations can help create a more supportive environment. Prioritizing mental health and not feeling guilty about using formula can make the transition back to work easier. It is important to remind yourself that you are a good mom and to seek support from your community. The Best Tips for Setting and Achieving Your Goals

Today, we're diving into a topic that resonates with all of us: setting and achieving goals. Whether you're looking to improve your personal life, advance your career, or enhance your relationships, setting goals is a fundamental step to success. But it's not just about setting any goals; it's about setting SMART goals. And beyond that, there's an extra secret ingredient to success that we'll explore. So, sit back, get comfy, and let's get started on the journey to achieving your dreams! Goals are the milestones by which we measure our progress in life. But not all goals are created equal. Smart goals, as you may have heard, are the gold standard in personal and professional planning. But what exactly are SMART goals? SMART is an acronym that stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. These five characteristics are what separate a well-intentioned wish from a goal you can actually reach. Let's break them down: Specific: Your goal should be clear and specific, so you know exactly what you're working towards. Measurable: You need a way to track your progress and know when you've accomplished your goal. Achievable: Your goal should be realistic and attainable to be successful. Relevant: This ensures that your goal matters to you and aligns with other relevant goals. Time-bound: Your goal should have a deadline, which creates a sense of urgency and prompts action. By setting SMART goals, you give yourself a clear target to aim for. But, setting them is just the beginning. The real magic happens when you take steps toward achieving them. Which brings us to our next point... Once you've set your SMART goals, it's time to introduce the game changer: accountability. It's easy to set goals, but it's much harder to follow through, especially when the only person you're accountable to is yourself. That's why having an accountability partner can make all the difference. When you're accountable to someone, you're more likely to stay on track. Your accountability partner can be a friend, a family member, a coach, or even a colleague. They're the person who will check in with you, give you a nudge when needed, and celebrate your successes with you. And let's be honest, it's so much more rewarding when you have someone to share your journey with! Here's how you can use accountability to your advantage: Share Your Goals: Tell someone about your goals. This makes them real and gives you a sense of obligation to pursue them. Choose Wisely: Pick an accountability partner who is genuinely interested in seeing you succeed and isn't afraid to push you. Set Regular Check-Ins: Schedule regular times to update your partner on your progress. This keeps you focused and on your toes. Be Open to Feedback: Listen to the insights and advice of your accountability partner. They might just help you overcome obstacles and adjust your approach. Remember, by getting accountable, you're not only committing to your goals, but you're also opening the door to support, motivation, and a whole lot of encouragement. With SMART goals and accountability in your arsenal, you're well on your way to soaring beyond your expectations. But it's not just about reaching your goals; it's about exceeding them. It's about creating a cycle of continuous improvement and never settling for 'just another thing.' God bless you on your journey to success, and don't forget to let us know how these tips have impacted you. Your stories are what inspire us to keep providing content that makes a difference. Here's to setting and achieving goals that matter!

Here is why we are doing a Hormone Genius Podcast solely on the benefits of sleep for your health! The reasons are numerous but some of the most important are: -Improved immune system -Improved hormone regulation -Decreased stress -Improved emotional stability -Brain detoxification -Improved daytime energy, mind clarity, and daily performance -Reduced chronic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease & obesity Sleep at many points in life has been hard for us to attain; think college, having babies, working shift jobs, or just trying to fit too much in during the day. According to the CDC: 70 million Americans have chronic sleep problems (CDC, 2017). 1 in 3 U.S. adults regularly don't get enough sleep (CDC, 2016). Insufficient sleep is experienced by about 30% of the general population that's over the age of 18 (CDC, 2018). 48% of Americans report snoring during the night (ASA, 2021). 88% of American adults reportedly lose sleep due to binge-watching (American Academy of Sleep Medicine, 2019). If you are between the ages of 18 to 65 you need on average 7 to 9 hours asleep. Best Tips to get the needed 7 to 9 hours of sleep: -Get up at the same time every day. -Within the first 2 hours expose your skin to 20 minutes of sunlight, and try a second time during the day to get another 20 minutes of sunlight on your skin. -Avoid caffeine after the early morning, or at least 8 to 10 hours before sleep. -Avoid napping during the day, and if you must keep it to 45 minutes or less. -Avoid bright lights after 8 to 10 pm, especially artificial lighting, all digital/screen lights ( get blue blocker glasses if you must use screens). -Keep your room as dim/dark as possible during bedtime hours. -Keep your room 1 to 3 degrees cooler while sleeping -For those who struggle with anxiety, or trouble falling asleep, consider adding 200 to 400 mg of magnesium glycinate, and/or 3 to 5 mg of melatonin, and/or 200 mg L-theanine 20 minutes before sleep. We cannot stress how important sleep is, the closer you get to 9 hours a night, the more you erase years of lack of sleep and its toll on your health. You cannot continue to rationalize that you must get up at 5 AM for working out, for meditation/prayer/quiet time, or any other reason if you do not get a full night's sleep. In the end, you will suffer the effects of lack of sleep and you will not make the progress you want to make. Here is another couple good resources to read on sleep! https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/files/docs/public/sleep/healthysleepfs.pdf https://www.hubermanlab.com/newsletter/toolkit-for-sleep Medical disclaimer: The information presented in The Hormone Genius Podcast is for informational purposes only and is not intended to be a substitute for actual medical or mental health advice from a doctor, psychologist, or any other medical or mental health professional.

In episode 120 of the Outdoor Minimalist podcast, we're exploring a topic that has been on my mind throughout 2023 and now as we enter 2024. I've been reading the book Reclaiming Body Trust, and it has made me rethink and evaluate my relationship with food and my body on a deeper level. Especially entering the season of New Year's resolutions, I think it is essential to consider how we can build a healthy relationship with food and with our perception of ourselves. That's why I sat down with Heather Kelly to explore building a healthier relationship with food (on and off the trail). Heather was born and raised in Alaska, which she still calls home today. A two-time NCAA National Champion in women's rowing and voted CRCA/Pocock All-American her senior year, she still considers herself an athlete. She loves everything from CrossFit to weight training to long walks in the woods. While studying at Western Washington University, she earned a degree in Evolutionary Nutrition and went on to study at the Institute for the Psychology of Eating to become a certified eating psychology coach. Heather believes we all have a relationship with food, and that it's important to cultivate a healthy, satisfying relationship with our diet for long-term health. She is the founder and CEO of Heather's Choice®, which produces healthy, lightweight, packable meals and snacks for adventurers worldwide. Every product is handmade in their dedicated gluten-free kitchen in Anchorage, Alaska. The Heather's Choice mission is to put good food in everyone's pack, no matter where their adventures may take them. Before we get to my interview with Heather, I want to announce that the official trailer for the Forever Chemicals podcast just dropped today! We are outlining our year ahead in this episode but grab your pen and paper because throughout it we give you tons of tips on how to do the same for your business. If you're newer to entrepreneurship we know that doing this type of analysis can be overwhelming but the goal of this episode is to make it easier on you because we've learned over the years what has worked for us and we want to share that with you.Reflecting on the past year is where you'll want to begin. We prompt you to look at things like where you generated the most new leads and what caused the most dramatic growth for your business? Assessing your finances is key to understanding where you might be able to spend a little more next year. Remember to look at your competition too. See what they are doing that seems to be working well for them. Can you implement similar strategies? And it's not just about the numbers. How did you feel both in and out of your business this last year? How do you want this next year to feel? Where do you need to make some changes? What can you automate or delegate? Is it time to hire?Look back at the beginning of this year and don't forget to celebrate how far you have come. If reflecting or planning a year out is too much, break it down. What wins can you celebrate from the last 90 days? And what are the top three things you want to accomplish in the next 90 days. Oftentimes we overestimate what we can get done in a day and underestimate what we can accomplish in a year. We want this year to be your best year yet so break down those goals into bite size pieces and start 2024 off with a bang!Let's connect!Purposeful Week Planner: https://www.pursuingherpurpose.com/shopOur WEBSITE: https://www.pursuingherpurpose.comINSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/pursuingherpurpose/MEET AMY: http://instagram.com/ameskiefer/MEET KAT: https://www.instagram.com/kat.herro/ MEET ABBY: http://instagram.com/abbyrosegreen/This episode was produced and edited by @pivotballchange.
