He is often found huddled around a new script in development or dreaming up a revival of a favorite musical. His directing work collides fantasy with the mundane, and is often representative of queer and/or Jewish communities. He creates where generosity of spirt and pursuit of excellence go hand-in-hand. Michael is a ferocious advocate for the fourth wall and believes every second act deserves a dream ballet. In Fall 2023, Michael made his directorial Off-Broadway debut with JOB by Max Wolf Friedlich. The twice-extended, sold-out run was a New York Times Critics Pick and hallmarked as "Highbrow and Brilliant" in New York Magazine's Approval Matrix. The commerical transfer at the Connelly Theater in 2024 recouped its investment in five weeks.   Born and raised outside New York City, Michael began his career as a child actor on Broadway. While stage managing his middle school musicals, he developed a deep passion for being behind the scenes. Michael has developed and staged new plays and musicals at HERE, Ensemble Studio Theater, JACK, SoHo Playhouse, Williamstown Theater Festival, IRT Theater, Lifeworld, Martha's Vineyard Playhouse, and the Pasadena Playhouse. Chantal was amongst the first MFA students to be accepted and cast in the professional training program at the prestigious Williamstown Theater Festival, the Tony Award Winning resident summer theatre. She played the lead role, Ella, in Sam Shepard's play. Curse of the Starving Class, directed by Jason Mc Dowell-Green.At U.S.C, Chantal spearheaded the initiative to diversify the MFA repertory, resulting in the production of the first black play, Twilight Los Angeles 1992. written by Anna Devere Smith. After this successful initiative, Chantal set into motion the plan to teach August Wilson classes in the U.S.C. MFA program: introducing Ruben Santiago Hudson and Michele Shay to help sustain the diversity initiative. During 2020, to support U.S.C's advocacy of Black Lives Matter, Chantal opened up the dialogue for a town hall discussion. The dialogue defined the inclusion process as an ongoing university priority, bringing together a wide range of stakeholders, including MFA alumni, current students, faculty and university leadership to add balance to the process.Chantal is a resident faculty member at Silva Arte e Danza musical theatre academy in Siracusa, Sicily and the founder and designer of Choobiz, a luxury shoe line made in Italy.

Gina and the band have had the pleasure of recording with Charles Neville from the legendary Neville Brothers and Joe Louis Walker. They have also opened for blues staples ... Amy Brenneman divides her time evenly between acting, producing, and political activism. She earned a degree in Comparative Religion at Harvard, with a specialty in Indo-Tibetan Religion, studying sacred dance and indigenous ritual in Kathmandu.  She was a founding member of the Cornerstone Theater Company, which specializes in site-specific community-based theater on themes of social justice.   Other theater:  CSC Rep, Lincoln Center Theater, LA Theater Works, LATC, Williamstown Theater Festival, En Garde Arts, Spark, The American Repertory Theater, Yale Rep, Playwrights Horizons, and the Geffen Playhouse.        Amy co-created, wrote and starred in Mouth Wide Open (The Yard, American Repertory Theater) and Overcome (The Yard).  Overcome will have its premiere at South Coast Repertory as part of the 2021-2022 season.           Amy created, executive produced and starred in “Judging Amy” (two TV Guide Awards, three Golden Globe nominations, Producer's Guild Nomination, three Emmy Award nominations, People's Choice SAG nomination) based on the work of her mother, the Honorable Judge Frederica Brenneman.  Other television: “NYPD Blue” (2 Emmy nominations, SAG award), “Frasier,” “Heartbeat” (exec producer), “Goliath” and Shonda Rhimes' “Private Practice.”  Amy starred in “The Leftovers” (Peabody Award, Critic's Choice nomination). In 2016, she was part of the amicus brief for the Supreme Court case Whole Women's v. Hellerstedt, ensuring that abortion clinics remain open in Texas and elsewhere; she received the Eleanor Roosevelt Award from The Feminist Majority for her ongoing commitment to reproductive rights. In 2019 Amy received the Change Agent Award from En Garde Arts in New York.  She has served as keynote speaker for NARAL, Cal-Tash, The Council for Exceptional Children and on the steps Supreme Court.              Amy splits her time between Los Angeles and West Tisbury, MA.  She is married to writer/director Brad Silberling and has two children, Charlotte and Bodhi.     Learn more about your ad choices. Taking to the Main Stage at Williamstown Theater Festival, Alex Edelman's "Just For Us," takes the audience through hilarious anecdotes from Alex Edelman's life. After a string of anti-Semitic abuse is directed at Edelman online, he decides to covertly attend a gathering of White Nationalists in New York City and comes face to face with the people behind the keyboards. The result is a hair-raising encounter that gives "Just For Us" its title and final, jaw-dropping twist.

My guest today is actor, screenwriter and producer Joe Coffey, who originally hails from Boston, Massachusetts, and grew up in the Irish neighborhood of West Roxbury, otherwise known as “Westie” in a family with deep Irish and Sicilian roots. Joe began acting at the age of 15 in theater and musical theater throughout Massachusetts.  After graduating from the prestigious Boston Latin high school, attending Stonehill College for theater, apprenticing at the Williamstown Theater Festival under artistic director and highly acclaimed actor Roger Rees,  Joe then studied at the Eugene O'Neill Theater in Waterford, CT as part of the ensemble of the National Theater Institute. He continued his training on a scholarship at the University of Florida from which he graduated with a MFA in 2009.  For the past 12 years Joe has been on a steady rise in stage, film and television. One of his most successful television roles is as Horace Dodge, in the highly successful “The Legend of Dodge” campaigns that he co-starred in for 5 years with Tyler Bryan portraying his brother John Dodge. Andrew Samonsky explains how he became a leading man on broadway.  His struggles with substance abuse in high school and college led him to go to rehab.  While there, his voice teacher sent him a letter that would change his life forever.  The main focus of their discussion is around the parallels with developing his physical singing voice and his authentic. "artistic voice".   His perspective can be helpful to any aspiring actor and singer hoping to one day make in in show business. After getting an ensemble role in Broadway's revival of South Pacific, he got a call that the leading man got sick and it was time for Andrew to seize the moment and play the lead role of Lt. On this episode, I speak to Gina Coleman, the frontwoman of the blues band Misty Blues! She shares with us their journey to the IBC finals, her love for playing the cigar box guitar, and how blues runs in the family! Gina is a graduate of Williams College. She began singing in 1990 on a dare by her co-workers and hasn’t turned back since. She began performing in a duet, The Siblings. Gina shortly started her own duet, Cole-Connection, which blossomed to a five-piece band that allowed her to showcase some of her original music. Matt Bomer is one of Hollywood’s most exciting actors working today. Tony Spiridakis Episode 22 Welcome back to Nothing Shines Like Dirt Empowering Actors to Create episode 22. Elise and Lesley sit down with writer/director/producer Tony Spiridakis. A seaside conversation about knowing film history, finding the story no matter your title and all the writing advice. Ever... Tony Spiridakis graduated from Albany University and immediately began teaching English at his old high school in Queens. At night, he pursued acting. He joined Circle in the Square’s Professional Workshop, which led to roles at the Williamstown Theater Festival, then his acceptance to the prestigious Yale School of Drama. From Yale, he was cast in the television series, BAY CITY BLUES, created by legendary producer Stephen Bochco, alongside Sharon Stone. Acting took him to Europe, where he starred in HAREM with Omar Sharif, THE AMERICAN WAY with Dennis Hopper, DEATHWISH III with Charles Bronson, and in director Stanley Kubrick’s FULL METAL JACKET. Mr. Kubrick inspired him to try his hand at writing. In his first screenplay, QUEENS LOGIC, Tony co-starred with Kevin Bacon, John Malkovich, Joe Mantegna and Jamie Lee Curtis. Suddenly, he was writing scripts for powerhouse producers Scott Rudin, Laura Ziskin, John Davis and Harvey Weinstein. Known for creating great roles for actors, he wrote for Academy Award winners Dustin Hoffman, Diane Keaton and Richard Dreyfuss, as well as Eddie Murphy, Chazz Palminteri and Giancarlo Giannini. He co-wrote the romantic comedy IF LUCY FELL, with Ben Stiller and Sarah Jessica Parker. His first film as writer-director, THE LAST WORD, starred Academy Award winner Timothy Hutton. He also produced and acted in Academy and Tony Award winner Doug Wright’s first play, CALLBACKS, with his dear friend, three-time Emmy winner Michael E. Knight. Tony attributes his accomplishments to the quality of teachers, and friends: Uta Hagen, Nikos Psacharopoulos, Geraldine Page, Michael Kahn, Larry Moss and the incomparable Bob Krakower. He’s been a screenwriting mentor at the Hamptons Film Festival, taught film production at Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film, and co-founded the Manhattan Film Institute, a boutique conservatory, alongside his life partner Lisa Gillooly. He made his film debut in Arthur Penn and Steve Tesichʼs FOUR FRIENDS, and has appeared in Clint Eastwoodʼs CHANGELING, MORNING GLORY and Jeff Lipskyʼs TWELVE THIRTY, MOLLYʼS THEORY OF RELATIVITY, and MAD WOMEN, and with Kristen Wiig in THE GIRL MOST LIKELY. He is Rep. Donald Blythe on the Netflix series, "House of Cards" and can be seen as Patti LuPone's husband in HBO's "Girls." Other recent TV appearances include "Blue Bloods,” as Tom Connolly on "The Blacklist" and NBCʼs “American Odyssey.” On the web, he is in the series “Whatʼs Your Emergency?” He won a 2006 Obie Award for Sustained Excellence in Performance and in 2011 Actors' Equity awarded him the Richard Seff Award. He has taught acting at Columbia University and The Scott Freeman Studio. He is married to actress Constance Shulman and they have two children, Ephraim and Gus, who are both actors.
