El martes falleció el último superviviente de The Band: Garth Hudson. El músico canadiense ha fallecido en una residencia en Woodstock. Pianista, organista, acordeonista, saxofonista… un músico culto, diverso, que sorprendió con sus discos en solitario: “Music for Our Lady Queen of the Angels”, en 1980, y “ The Sea To The North”, en 2001. Snuffy Walden Live on Game Changers With Vicki Abelson Lemonade! That's what you get when you take a brilliantly talented, supportive beau, and the greatest, most fun-loving, and devoted co-commiserators on the planet and mix them together on what could have been a rough one. My gratitude is boundless. What fun this was! It helps when said Beau is Emmy Award-Winning Composer, Snuffy Walden, even though we didn't really go there. From piano to trombone, finding guitar, playing strip clubs, to living in a park with his roadie, Aphrodite in Denver to fronting Stray Dog, opening for Emerson, Lake & Palmer around the world, a near-miss with me in '74, drinking and debauchery, recording Songs in The Key of Life with Stevie Wonder, earning a platinum record, being in the passenger seat when Stevie drove––oh yes, he did; playing with Dave Mason, Donna Summer, Chaka Khan when she was breaking I Feel For You, touring with Eric Burdon, two times, and having an epiphany, thanks to longtime friend and bandmate, Michael Ruff, which would change, and save, his life. We focused on Snuffy's playing, rock years… check out this Stray Dog front and center https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7sbEdHgb2Oo Thirty Something, The Wonder Years, The West Wing, an Emmy Award, a dozen other Emmy nominations, 51 BMI Awards, representing over 100 TV shows followed. Spruce & Klep kick of the Women in Music, Part 2 album review series with the legendary album, released in 1984, I Feel For You by Chaka Khan. After balancing her role as the lead singer of Rufus and her own solo career, Chaka was finally able to focus all her attention on her own music when Rufus disbanded in 1983. I Feel For You was Chaka Khan's first solo album after the dissolution of Rufus and her most popular album in terms of record sales. The album I Feel For You would end up being nominated for a Best Female R&B Vocal Performance Grammy Award in 1986 but lost out to Aretha Franklin's Freeway of Love. The song I Feel For You did win a Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance in 1985 though. The 10 tracks that make up I Feel For You are one of a kind, and the unique sound that Chaka cultivates in this record will mesmerize anyone.
For the first time, Marc and John delve into a bonafide pop chart phenomenon: Chaka Khan's 1984 cover of Prince's "I Feel For You" backed with "Chinatown." It was a top 5 mainstay of the Billboard Hot 100 for months, but there's a lot of interesting stories behind its success too. Hear why this record is not just a classic, but a groundbreaker, on the latest episode of the Spindle.Call us anytime at 1-877-WASTOIDS. In this episode of Living A Vocal Life, we dive deep into the remarkable musical journey of Danielle Tucker. Danielle's passion for performance began when she auditioned and won a spot on Ed McMahon's Star Search in the early 90s. She didn't win, but what she learned from the singer she competed against ignited her desire to become a professional singer. Her journey from an inexperienced novice to a powerhouse vocalist is an inspiring tale of perseverance and personal growth. As Danielle opens up about her years spent traveling and learning from different band experiences, she reminds us of the importance of embracing vulnerability while learning how to stand up for yourself in the face of adversity. You'll hear some behind-the-scenes stories from Danielle's adventures, from her early days in a touring Top 40 band to her thriving show band, the Mighty Untouchables. Snuffy Walden Live on Game Changers With Vicki Abelson There are no accidents. House stand-in as he so aptly named hisslef, Emmy-Winning Composer, Snuffy Walden, was just what the doctor ordered. Live from the dining room, with Rufus for the most part chillin' between us, Snuffy got down, got real, letting us in as he seamlessly weaved through music, alcoholism, geographics, hitting big, breaking bad, highs, lows, getting sober, switching gears, success beyond his imaginings, the pandemic abyss, to slowly stepping back out amidst life's challenges. From piano to trombone, finding guitar, playing with BJ Thomas at 14 and strip clubs at 17, DJing, to living in a park with a roadie, Aphrodite in Denver to fronting Stray Dog, rocking like hell, and opening for Emerson, Lake & Palmer around the world, a near-miss with me in '74, drinking and debauchery, recording Songs in The Key of Life with Stevie Wonder, earning a platinum record, being in the passenger seat when Stevie drove––oh yes, he did; playing with Dave Mason at the peak, Chaka Kahn when she was breaking I Feel For You, touring with Eric Burdon and having an epiphany, thanks to longtime friend and bandmate, Michael Ruff, which would change, and save, his life. With all his success before, a few years later, without experience or training, he scored Thirty Something, then The Wonder Years, both Emmy nominees their first year, then meeting Sorkin and doing Sports Night, and then The West Wing, where he won that Emmy with his iconic main title, and then a dozen other Emmy nominations and 51 BMI Awards, representing over a hundred other shows… then the pandemic slowdown to almost shut down, and a recent rebirth doing what he loves and loving what he's doing, committed to turning up the joy in the monitors, because of and in spite of recent news. Snuffy's humility, humanity, and heart soar in his words and music. His dedication to being of service, hIs talent, and his sweetness, are ongoing inspirations to me and countless others. I neglected to say Happy Passover. Historically I've been a second-nighter, and this year is no exception. Tomorrow, Snuffy will be attending his first Seder. Hide the Manischewitz. From both of us. A young artist has a brilliant song, while looking ahead at overshadowing himself, and one of the most effective and innovative comebacks in modern music. I Feel For You, originally by Prince, covered by Chaka Khan. Outro music is Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go, by Wham! That was a heck of a year.

There are enough people out there who yearn for the arcane, the odd, the unsuccessful, the strange, and the historically overlooked to justify 200 podcast episodes of D-Sides, Orphans, and Oddities. This makes me happy, and the topics are inexhaustible. From the strange singles of Freddie Cannon and Lou Christie to the occasionally wonderful singles of Les Humphries Singers, Doris, Os Mutantes, to the strange paths to fame like The American Breed ("Bend Me Shape Me") evolving into Rufus, and then Chaka Kahn, and then "I Feel For You", her biggest hit, written by Prince, but the Kahn version was actually the 4th release and, had Patrice Rushen opted to try it (she turned it down), the 5th. A Prince song with Stevie Wonder playing harmonica over his own voice being sampled. To me, pop music is styles and the biggest records tend to be styles smooshed together. People like dangerous white music and safe black music. People like rap, but with a melodic vocal hook. While the Bee Gees were not a disco group, the Saturday Night Fever movie was a perfect petri dish. Combine Travolta's white-hot star power with the zeitgeist of Disco and the very odd recordings the Bee Gees were doing at that time. It was the success and the playing it safe in the movie's wake that doomed them. The Beatles were preternaturally gifted with a work ethic that would kill the musicians of today. But their fame was also born of withering luck. A producer and a manager (and record company) that didn't really know what they were supposed to do with these four tough guys. None of them tried to make The Beatles pick a lead singer, so, like their live act, all four would do it. Because they had the shocking temerity to say "Nope, we're not doing that song...", it was like saying to someone with a gun In your face, "Go ahead. We've come this far. You don't know WHAT we've seen. We see through you, over and over. In Germany. In Sweden. In Wales. We never said 'no' to a gig, no matter how much driving or begging or lack of sleep, and if the Reeperbahn couldn't stop us, what makes you think YOU will?" And their genuine love of Black music somehow broke the barriers for generations of singers, players, etc. Imagine that moment. You're in The Beatles, you've struggled and burned the roads up and played innumerable gigs, and sat, nose to nose, creating songs in your room that people would be singing and playing for 60 years hence. But now, the sessions begin, and the man in the tie wants you to record a "ringer". And you try it, but it doesn't really do anything. It's ok. But you have to decide. Play the game? Or risk this dude's red pen. Or show up with something better. And the guy with the tie has been through some shit as well. And he's tired of being relegated to 2nd string and he resents being put in a place where these four punks dare question his choice. Do better. I'm tired of this shit. And "Please Please Me" is as black a record as anything any band from England before them had tried. And that little phrase can be attributed to everything they tried after that. Because they proved it, in that ONE shot across the bow that would resonate for what will be eons, that your old choices for ringers, publishing company favors, Brill building production lines, plug-and-play Motown stuff, etc., were going to either fade or have to adapt. I stop my show pretty much at 1980 because that's when drum machines and synths became songwriting devices. I never liked Joy Division. I just don't get it. At that point, and with exceptions, sure, drum programming and synth programming made songwriting easy. That didn't make the songs any better. Just easier to make. Someone else can do that show. Anyhow, this is to say thank you to all the folks that have listened and downloaded. THIS show is me delivering a preamble and then playing 4 hours of music from past shows that I really like. Let's call this "Part 1" because the show, as I originally tried to put it together, lasted 10+ hours. So consider this show when you're on a long drive, doing work, making love to your woman, or man, or both, or none. So...... This is the setlist, but they're not all ‘good songs'. Some are meant to show you the arcane nature of what I find most enjoyable. Song-poems (“The Beatle Boys”), artists coping with the end of their heyday (Gary Glitter) and ill-prepared for life after that, or artists way before they found their niche (The Gap Band). And, of course, groups I love like Rose Tattoo, The Free Design, and SAHB. Leo's Sunshipp - Give Me The Sunshine (1978) The Free Design - My Very Own Angel (1969) GLS United - Rapper's Deutsch (1980) Samples “Rapper's Delight”, which samples “Good Times” by Chic, “Here Comes That Sound Again” by Love De-Luxe with Hawkin's Discophonia (which i played on one of my previous shows), and a quote from the movie Five on the Black Hand Side, specifically, a scene in the barbershop that predated the advent of Rudy Ray Moore' Dolemite character by 2 years. Louis Armstrong - The Creator Has a Master Plan (1970) w/ Leon Thomas Rick Wakeman - I'm So Straight, I'm a Weirdo (1980) I just like playing this awful oddity from the keyboard player from Yes. This record defies description. But if you see the video on Youtube, look for a young Boy George. James Last - Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler) (1971) From the album Voodoo-Party. Billy Preston - My Sweet Lord (1970) One of two albums he released on Apple Records. Rod Rogers (really, Rod Keith) and the Swinging Strings - The Beatle Boys (196?) The Gap Band - Magician's Holiday (1974) Gary Glitter - A Little Boogie Woogie in the Back of My Mind (1977) The Free Design - There Is A Song (1972) I will never stop praising this wonderful group. Stuart Damon - Eros (1970) Dr. Alan Quartermaine from General Hospital had a brief singing career. The Millennium - There Is Nothing More To Say (1968) Lou Christie lifted this wonderful melody for his own “Canterbury Road" later that year. From the film “Till [sic] Kingtom Comes”. XTC- Across This Antheap (1987) I never tire of this amazing track. It's my show. Aerosmith -Nobody's Fault (1976) I like Aerosmith's '70s albums very much. They were all loaded with hidden gems, and to me, “Nobody's Fault” was just the most succinct example of a band that made consistently good/great albums. Frank Zappa - Andy (1980) A great, difficult tune (you try it with your band.) Recorded live in Buffalo. Annette Peacock - The Succubus (1979) The Red Shadow - Anything Good (1975) Carpenters - B'wana She No Home (1977) Bruford - Back To The Beginning (1978) Frank Sinatra - Bad, Bad, Leroy Brown (1974) Barry McGuire & The Doctor - South Of The Border (1970) I love this song. We are on the eve of destruction indeed. Might as well… Beach Boys - Rollin' Up To Heaven (1972?) This is so insane, and especially from a major artist, that it defies categorization. Rose Tattoo - We Can't Be Beaten (1982) Ferocious. Billy (Crash) Craddock - Knock Three Times (1971) Led Zeppelin - Black Dog (1972) Unbelievable live version from “How The West Was Won”. Listen to those bass drum tricks. Especially during the coda. I wish Robert Plant never smoked. A normal drummer would go crazy with fills. Bonham put them where they belonged, no more. He showed amazing restraint at times. You wouldn't think so, but he was a grooving monster above all else. Black Oak Arkansas - Hot And Nasty (1971) Michael (Mick) Jackson - Blame It On The Boogie (1978) Bob & Earl - Harlem Shuffle (1969) The Kids From The Brady Bunch - Candy (Sugar Shoppe) (1972) So inappropriate that I wonder what the record company/TV show producers were thinking. Good song and a nice performance by the studio band. Bread - Everything I Own (1972) Carla Bley - Rawalpindi Blues (1972) Nick Mason - Do Ya? (1980) Liberace - Say Ciao (1970) Liberace puts it into words and music..."Never Say Goodbye, Say Ciao"...capturing the mood of Ciao Liqueur...the imported new liqueur with the elusive new taste. I can't find another song that Liberace wrote himself. Crack The Sky - Surf City (Here Come The Sharks) (1975) Les Humphries Singers - Dancing Queen (1976) You can still hear Jimmy Bilsbury's straining, smoky tenor in the choruses. “Having the time of your life…” Poor guy. Eddie Kendricks - Me 'N Rock 'N Roll Are Here To Stay (1974) Denny Greene - The Great Escape (1981) Ex-Sha Na Na member trying to break type like J Jocko tried a few years before. I love this. This is a dance mix of the original he did in 1977. Dennis Wilson - River Song (1977) Doris - Did You Give The World Some Love Today, Baby? (1970) No one knows who Doris is. I'd rather listen to her and this crazy Swedish band for a year before I ever give any time to Janis Joplin. Rotary Connection - Didn't Want To Have To Do It (1967) Adriano Celentano - Prisencolinensinainciusol (1972) This is a wonderful remix of the original fluke hit. The Move - Do Ya (different version) (1971) Jeff Lynne - Doin' That Crazy Thing (1977) Rick Nelson - Don't Blame It On Your Wife (1968) Sha Na Na Anti-Drug PSA (197?) What does hip hop and real estate have in common? In a very personal and introspective interview, we answer that question and so much more, with Chad “Ap” Bromley, better known in the hip hop world as “Apathy.” This hip hop legend explains how he was trying to make it as a white rapper before Eminem. Apathy found joy in hip hop music through his dad, who used to tape hip hop shows on the radio just when the music genre was starting to make waves. Apathy was born to teenage parents in an economically destitute neighbourhood in Connecticut. But it wasn't all that bad as he had always shared hip hop with his dad. “My father had a big work van and we would drive around. I remember, summertime, bumping the Beastie Boys and my dad turning it up loud so it would bump and I just felt like the coolest kid in the world,” said Apathy, who dropped by the RUNGPG Podcast to share his experience in both hip hop and real estate. Yep! This critically acclaimed rapper is also helping people find the right homes for them. And his hip hop background was actually a factor that led him to the real estate industry. Apathy started rapping at the age of five, freestyling the intro to Chaka Khan's “I Feel For You.” But it wasn't until he turned 15 that he actually took it seriously, traveling to New York City for rap battles and ciphers. His talent for rap battles almost got him killed at the famous Disco Fever nightclub in South Bronx. Apathy eventually broke out into the music industry with an appearance on Jedi Mind Tricks' debut album. In 2006, Apathy debuted his own album, “Eastern Philosophy.” He has since worked with some of the biggest names in music: DJ Premier, Snoop Dogg, Nas, Linkin Park and Busta Rhymes. So, how did he end up in real estate? Apathy shared that after finishing a tour, he would usually have a pile of cash where he would whittle away from. He thought it would be smarter to invest the money he earned from his music tours. He also had a not-so good experience with some real estate agents and he wanted to change how the business is done. Apathy shared that while looking for a house with his wife, the real estate agents he worked with never really educated him about the industry. The rapper and real estate agent wants to sell houses for the right reason, and that is to help people find a place where they could make memories. Here are the other topics we discussed during the podcast: What it was like growing up in Connecticut. His earliest hip hop influences. How he started in hip hop. What it was like being a white rapper. How he almost got shot one night in the Bronx. Where the name Apathy came from. Making money doing something he loves. His creative process. The best and worst moments during live shows. Working with Snoop Dogg. His dream collaborations? His love of Canada. The biggest contributor to his longevity in hip hop. His advice to up-and-coming artists. About his latest album “Where the River Meets the Sea.” How he ended up in real estate. His upcoming projects. The three people he wants to have dinner with. The legacy Apathy wants to leave behind. Apathy is a student of Hip-Hop. “I study them so seriously. Other people listen to rap and they are fans of it, but I study it to the molecular level. I pick apart everything they said, why they put certain words together, the alliteration, the phonetics, all of these things. And that's why I write the way I do,” said Apathy. NOTE: Apathy also created and mixed the new intro for the RUNGPG podcast. We had the pleasure of interviewing Frankie Zulferino over Zoom video! Chart topping NYC-based Singer, Dancer, Choreographer, TikTok star, Frankie Zulferino is authentically himself with his first release of 2021, “Hit That,” featuring Melii. Frankie’s authenticity has not gone unnoticed by those who have inspired him to be who he is, like icons Janet Jackson, Neyo and Paula Abdul sending love to him and posting about his tribute videos to them. This past year alone he has garnered over 700K followers on TikTok; “it’s been the height of my career for sure which is crazy considering it’s in the middle of the worst times of most peoples career. My fans are everything to me; I wanted to really connect with people. Instead of just shutting down I made sure to get super involved. Performing for my fans, posting everyday and going live. Paying tribute to my inspirations. My fans kept tagging Janet, Neyo and Paula Abdul on social media until they each reposted. Paula even reached out to collaborate on a video. It was definitely a turning point in my career and I’ll forever be grateful for all these moments.” On top of that, Frankie has been releasing other cover videos such as “Let’s Get It On” by Marvin Gaye and “I Feel For You”, both of which landed a spot within the Top 15 iTunes Pop Chart. Frankie’s release of “Hit That” seeks to bring back the 80’s, 90’s, 2000’s nostalgia. All that has inspired him. To make people feel good again, to dance, to forget about their troubles in the midst of these crazy times. “I want to do great things with my platform and give back and make changes. I’d like to eventually open up dance studios for kids and bring in the best dancers for them to learn from. That's super important to me. Of course I have a lot of goals in my career that I always want to elevate. My personality forces me to always want more and to always be bigger and better to hopefully inspire people and make a positive difference in the world.” “When I recorded “Hit That”, I had my mind set on bringing on a female artist , I wanted that female energy and power to complete my vision. When I connected with MELII I instantly knew she was the perfect artist for this, but what really got me was our first conversation. She said she loved the song and saw the vision, that this is something really different for her and would love to be a part of it. She really is such a humble person with a natural gift and talent and I couldn’t be more excited for our collaboration and for the world to dance this one with us!" We want to hear from you! Shola is an amazing speaker and she's become known for speaking and teaching empathy and inclusion in the workplace and taking this message out into the corporate landscape to change how we see and do business. Operating with empathy is not optional and the old models of hard as nails, low empathy business leaders are heading to the graveyard of bad business ideas, where they belong.Shola has been a TEDx speaker and she talks about that experience with me and how a pair of earrings ruined her TED talk. We had a great time chatting about what happens when things go wrong and also about being heard and stepping out of comfort zones, and more besides. Chaka Khan: Singer, Songwriter, Actor, Activist Chaka Khan was born Yvette Marie Stevens on March 23, 1953 into an artistic, bohemian household in Chicago, Illinois. Bohemian, is not a word used much anymore but it by definition means "socially unconventional, but involved in the arts, or in an artistic way. Chaka/Yvette was the eldest of five kids born to Charles Stevens and Sandra Coleman, Yvette described her father as a beatnik and her mother as "able to do anything." She was raised in the Hyde Park area, which has been called "an island in the middle of the madness" of Chicago's rough South Side housing projects. Her sister Yvonne later became a successful musician in her own right under the name Taka Boom. Her only brother, Mark, who formed the funk group Aurra, also became a successful musician. She has two other sisters, Zaheva Stevens and Tammy McCrary. Yvette was raised as a Catholic, and attributed her love of music to her grandmother, who introduced her to jazz as a child. Yvette soon became a fan of rhythm and blues music as a preteen and at eleven formed a girl group, the Crystalettes, that included her sister Taka. In the late 1960s, Yvette attended several civil rights rallies with her father's second wife, Connie, who was a strong supporter of the movement and joined the Black Panther Party after befriending fellow member, activist and Chicago native Fred Hampton in 1967. Though many think that she was given the name Chaka while in the Panthers, she has made it clear that her name Chaka Adunne Aduffe Hodarhi Karifi was given to her at age 13 by a Yoruba Baba. In 1969, she left the Panthers and dropped out of high school, having attended Calumet High School and Kenwood High School (now Kenwood Academy). Chaka began to perform in small groups around the Chicago area, first performing with Cash McCall's group Lyfe, which included her then-boyfriend Hassan Khan. Chaka and Hassan married in 1970. Chaka was asked to replace Baby Huey of Baby Huey & the Babysitters A great singer and tight band (CLIP) Baby Huey Hard Times After Huey's death in 1970. The group disbanded a year later. While performing in local bands in 1972, Chaka Khan was spotted by two members of a new group called Rufus and soon won her position in the group (replacing rock n roll singer Paulette McWilliams). The group caught the attention of musician Ike Turner who flew them out to Los Angeles to record at his studio Bolic Sound in Inglewood, California. Ike wanted Khan to become an Ikette; she declined stating she was "really happy with Rufus. But Ike's attention was certainly a boost." Early on, Chaka caught the attention of music icon Stevie Wonder, who penned her first smash hit with Rufus, “Tell Me Something Good.” (CLIP). TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD The single from the group’s 1974 platinum-selling album, Rags to Rufus, earned Chaka her first GRAMMY® Award. With Chaka as the group’s dynamic center, Rufus became one of the most popular acts around selling out shows throughout the country and dominating the airwaves with hit after hit with songs such as “You Got the Love,” which Chaka co-wrote (CLIP). YOU GOT THE LOVE “Once You Get Started,” (CLIP). ONCE YOU GET STARTED “Sweet Thing,” (CLIP) SWEET THING “Everlasting Love,” (CLIP). EVERLASTING LOVE “Do You Love What You Feel?” (CLIP). DO YOU LOVE WHAT YOU FEEL The biggie “Ain’t Nobody” Chaka’s second GRAMMY Award-winning song with Rufus. Is up... Rufus and Chaka Khan racked up five RIAA certified gold and platinum albums during their time together. Rufus keyboardist David "Hawk" Wolinski wrote the song around a repeating synthesizer loop backed by a Linn LM-1 drum computer; however, John J. R. Robinson, the band's drummer, played real drums for the recording session. The band did a democratic vote and they decided to include the song in their album repertoire. Once the song was recorded, Warner executives wanted to issue another song as the album's first single. AND Wolinski threatened to give the song to American singer Michael Jackson and American producer Quincy Jones for Jackson's album Thriller, if the song was not the lead-off single. The label relented and "Ain't Nobody" was issued and hit number one on the R&B chart for the week ending October 15, 1983. It was also the song included on the soundtrack album to the 1984 film Breakin'. The song is performed in the key of E♭ minor with a tempo of 104 beats per minute in common time. Khan's vocals span from G♭3 to E♭5 in the song. (SONG) AINT NOBODY This is the Old School Rewind Podcast this week featuring Chaka Khan.. so we just played Ain't Nobody, It was inevitable that a singer with Chaka’s star power would eventually venture out on her own. In 1978, Chaka blazed onto the music scene as a solo artist with the release of the smash hit “I’m Every Woman” written by Ashford & Simpson. (SONG). I'M EVERY WOMAN Thats Chaka Khan with her first solo hit "I'm every woman." This is Aaron Goodwin and the Old School Rewind Podcast. From the 35 acres and a microphone farm we tribute the old school.. This week it's Chaka Khan and she has now Paired with the late producer extraordinaire, Arif Mardin (Aretha Franklin, Bette Midler), her catalog grew even more impressive with hits such as “Clouds,” “Papillon,” and “What ‘Cha Gonna Do For Me?” It was during this time that Chaka began pursuing her love of jazz. She and Arif brilliantly re-worked the classic song “Night in Tunisia” with the song’s originator, Dizzy Gillespie, on trumpet. Chaka also recorded an album of jazz standards titled Echoes of an Era, which featured such luminaries as Chick Corea, Stanley Clarke, and Lenny White. Her crowning achievement in jazz was the GRAMMY® Award-winning tune, “Be Bop Medley.” The song’s album, titled Chaka Khan, also won a GRAMMY® for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. However, anyone else would be winded.. not Chaka as the biggest and best was yet to come. And , the song that made Chaka Khan a household name and propelled her to superstardom the world over was “I Feel For You,” written and first performed by Prince. (Clip) Prince I FEEL FOR YOU This chart-topping, GRAMMY® Award-winning song also made music history. Released in 1984, it was the first R&B song to feature a rap, and rapper, which was the best to ever touch a mic. Grandmaster Melle Mel. Khan's version featured a supporting cast including guitar, drum programming, bass guitar, keyboards and arrangement by Reggie Griffin; bass synthesizer and programming by The System's David Frank using an Oberheim DSX sequencer, which was connected to his Minimoog via CV and gate; and chromatic harmonica playing by Stevie Wonder. The song also uses vocal samples from Wonder's song "Fingertips" (1963). The repetition of Khan's name by Melle Mel at the beginning of the song was a mistake made by producer Arif Mardin, who then decided to keep it.[7] This version of the song sold more than one million copies in the US and UK, and it helped to relaunch Khan's career. The song hit No. 1 on the Cash Box singles chart and peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart from the weeks of November 24, 1984 to December 8, 1984.[8] The song remained on the Billboard Hot 100 for 26 weeks and became one of Billboard's five biggest pop songs of the year for 1985. The single reached No. 1 on both the US dance[9] and R&B charts in late 1984, remaining atop both for three weeks each.[10] In addition, the song also reached No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart.[11] While touring with Prince in 1998 in support of her collaborative album, Come 2 My House, Khan and Prince performed "I Feel for You" as a duet. She has a deep commitment to women and children at risk, which led her to establish the Chaka Khan Foundation in 1999. Initially, the foundation focused primarily on public awareness campaigns around the diagnosis, intervention, and available family resources and the search for a cure for autism. Her efforts were particularly aimed at communities of color and other underserved communities, where awareness about this disorder is low. Her work in this area was inspired by her nephew who has autism and who Chaka describes as “gifted and beautiful and so full of life.” She later expanded the mission of the foundation to focus more broadly on women and children at risk. In July 2012, Chaka received the McDonald Corporation’s 365Black Award, honoring her for her leadership of the Chaka Khan Foundation. Chaka also is an entrepreneur. In 2004, her line of gourmet chocolates, Chakalates, was sold in 20 Neiman Marcus stores around the country. Plans are underway to re-launch her signature brand of chocolates nationally and internationally. She currently is introducing Khana Sutra, a fragrance line for men, women and the home. The line also includes candles, and room and linen sprays. With a new svelte look, a new album, and a great enthusiasm for her new and expanding activities in music, philanthropy and entrepreneurial ventures, the 10-time GRAMMY® Award-winner is looking forward to a celebration of a lifetime. From the about button on Chakas website.. Chaka Khan is one of the world’s most gifted and celebrated musicians, with a rich musical legacy. The 10-time GRAMMY® Award-winner is A songwriter, actor, author, philanthropist, entrepreneur and activist, Chaka Khan has influenced generations of recording artists. She has the rare ability to sing in seven music genres, including R&B, pop, rock, gospel, country, world music and classical. If all The Immortals were in Europe, how long would it take before most of them would try to manipulate Pedro to commit crimes for them? That's the dilemma in the middle of the Wim Wenders' film The American Friend! It's a Ripley novel adaptation from Patricia Highsmith starring Dennis Hopper and Bruno Ganz. After they finish their assassinations, they listen to R.E.M. and Chaka Khan and then Austin barely proves that Footballers' Wives exists. Also plenty of Oscar reactions a week late! Get excited! Welcome to I Feel For You, a podcast that supports you to be more you. I’m Dionne, a creative coach, yoga + movement + meditation teacher, dj, writer and well, storyteller, using various tools to hold space and help you feel more free, to be who you are and all you are becoming. This is episode 28 and i don’t know about you but feels like there’s been lots going on these weeks! It’s January, new year, superman wolf moon, blood moon, blue Monday. Deep winter blues, Aquarius season, etc. The energy has felt weeeeeird lately. Are you feeling unproductive? Overwhelmed? Tired and low in motivation? Alienated and down? Dealing with resistance? Disconnected from yourself? Yet getting mixed messages about needing to have it all together cause newsfeeds are rampant with declarations and rally calls to declare this the start of your best year ever? You are not alone. There’s a lot of noise. and comparison and strange goals can creep in and can knock us off track. So how do we remember who the hell we are and bring ourselves back in these times?I’ll be sharing some thoughts and ideas that i hope will inspire you as well as reassure you on your mission. To be more you! So a disclaimer: i’ve been trying to finish this episode for around 4 days now. I mean, i was in Norway djing this weekend but now i’m home and faced with finish line, somehow, almost ridiculously, everything is difficult. Sticky. Slow. Like wading through treacle. I just want to hibernate in a duvet cocoon and eat my feelings whilst watching a titillating and non triggering series of some sort, pass out then wake up renewed.
Giving thanks for an awe-inspiring chat with Emmy Winning composer, Snuffy Walden. With 13 nominations, 50 + BMI Awards, a lifetime achievement award, being the subject of Mark Maxey’s documentary, Up to Snuff, starring Martin Sheen, Aaron Sorkin, and Eric Burdon, currently kicking ass on the awards circuit, and garnering 21 of them to date––the secret to this man’s success seems to be in the “Yes.” He says it, does the work, and gains richly deserved acclaim. Over and over again. Playing with BJ Thomas at 14; fronting Stray Dog, rocking like hell, and opening for Emerson, Lake & Palmer around the world; drinking and debauchery, recording Songs in The Key of Life with Stevie Wonder, earning a platinum record, and being in the passenger seat when Stevie drove––oh yes, he did; playing with Dave Mason at the peak, Chaka Kahn when she was breaking I Feel For You, touring with Eric Burdon and having an epiphany which would change his life. Sobriety. “I really feel like God took a damaged soul out of me and put in a fresh one.” With all of his success before, a few years later, without experience or training, he scored Thirty Something, then The Wonder Years, Sports Night, The West Wing, where he won that Emmy, and dozens upon dozens of others. Thirtyish years later, taking on Sara Niemietz, getting back on stage and in the studio, as a player and mentor. Snuffy’s humility, humanity, and heart soared throughout our time… in his words and music. A man of supreme talent, wisdom, and integrity, Snuffy’s willingness and vulnerability spark genius. Baring his soul, laying it open, informs everything he plays, and lives. I’m inspired to do better, be better having spent the time with him. Darren talks to Jon Muggleton about the penultimate track from Prince, I Feel For You.
Merry Xmas to all of you! Elements of a Dancer.. A combination of old progressive trance dance tunes with a small sprinkling of current clubby numbers and far too many Xtian Edits A very easy, meant to get you off your feet, festive and unashamadely commercial set.. I originally intended to publish the Shanghai Progressions Pt.2 back in September, had staggered the publishing of the uploads in order not to overload anyone but somehow it got lost in-between the cloud and the Chinese firewall. So be it! Lost forever.. Then, life got busy and I had no time to even think about tunes let alone mix anything.. A fortnight ago a friend reminded me that Xmas was approaching and that a new set would be a nice festive gesture.. Here it is my (one day..) cycling buddy! Hope you find it motivating enough to take on a ride and not too commercial for your discerning ears though... I did want something fun and not too heady, one which would nicely fit on a CD for the family to listen to during the holidays. A lot of post-production for the Xtian’s Edits, a few gratuitous, a couple acceptable! Thus, Let’s Dance!! Playlist: 2008 Pjanoo (Original Club Mix) [Xtian Get You Dancing Edit]. Eric Prydz 2016 Goodbye (meHiLove Vocal Remix). Tara Louise & Masoud 2015 Show Me Love (EDX Remix Radio Edit]. Sam Feldt ft. Kimberly Anne 2016 Missing (Extended Mix). Kimberly Anne, Luca Schreiner 2015 Borrow Love (Original Mix). (Me & My Toothbrush vs. Paul Richmond 2015 Uruguay (EDX Radio Mix) [Xtian Take Me Away Edit]. Nora En Pure & Sons of Maria 2015 Insomnia (Calippo Remix) [Xtian Edit]. Faithless & Calippo 2016 Things We Might Have Said (Original Mix). Cari Golden, Reiner Zonnefeld 2016 I Feel For You (2016 Rework). Bob Sinclar, DBN 2015 Destiny(Original Mix). Markus Schulz ft. Delacey 2013 Thinking About You (EDXs Belo Horizonte at Night Remix. Calvin Harris, Ayah Marar 2015 Breathe (Forerunners Remix) [Xtian Light Up Edit]. David Broaders & DenSity FuZion 2009 Downpipe (Original Club Mix) [Xtian Short Rush Edit]. Mark Knight, D. Ramirez, Underworld 2014 Breaking Love (Original Extended Mix) [Xtian Reach Out Soul Edit]. Larrikin 2013 Time is by Your Side (Nigel Good Remix). Aerosoul ft. John Ward 2012 Orchestra (Original Mix) (Xtian Dancer Edit). Matteo Marini Highlights: My personal favourites are "Things We Might Have Said" and "Destiny".. Not to miss! The former one being one of my pick for perfectly produced tune of 2016.. As for the latter, if you like melodic progressive trance, the Markus Schulz tune is one for you.. A blast for the past with Mark Knight’s “Downpipe”, which I had forgotten, thanks Chris! All too easy!! I have a VERY bloated cart of Traxsource therefore will be back fairly soon. A bientôt Joyeux Noël Xtian P.S: have cut a few CD, so if you are on my Xmas list, who knows, you might get one..

When I was working on the third volume of the Year-End Edition 1997 , my memory was jogged about one of the divas on my list that I had not gotten around to inducting. Yes, there is a short list of ladies (Patti Labelle, Aretha Franklin, etc.) that totally must be included in the Diva Hall of Fame but due to the complexities in putting their tributes together, I haven't taken a stab at it yet. Chaka Khan was one such person. As I listened to the awesomeness of Chaka's #1 club-dance hit Never Miss The Water with Me'Shell Ndegéocello, I knew it was time to get to work. Miss Khan's career spans over four decades, starting as lead vocalist for the R&B Funk outfit Rufus. They generated several top 40 and #1 R&B hits like the Stevie Wonder penned Tell Me Something Good, Sweet Love (later covered by Mary J. Blige and a personal favorite), At Midnight (My Love Will Lift You Up) and Do You Love What You Feel. By 1978, Chaka (in true diva fashion) had rocky relationships with many members of Rufus and signed a solo deal with Warner Brothers. Her debut album included the top twenty song I'm Every Woman (later covered by Whitney Houston). From there, she released multiple albums with mild success but in 1983 joined forces with Rufus one more time for the album Stompin' at the Savoy - Live, that included the studio track Ain't Nobody. That song was Rufus' final top twenty hit and has been a staple in Chaka's repertoire ever since. The following year, she released the album I Feel For You. The title track penned by Prince, enjoyed massive global success fueling the album's platinum status. In 1986, she joined forces with Steve Winwood for his massive comeback on the single Higher Love. Chaka Khan continues to release new material and performs regularly. Her voice, beauty, and skills have earned her massive success as well as well-deserved critical acclaim. It's for these reasons and more that Party Favorz is honored to induct the fabulous Chaka Khan into the Diva Hall of Fame. Having completed the project a few months back, I've decided it's time to bring it into the spotlight. Unlike its 90s predecessor, Millennial House Music marks a period of intriguing transitions and expansions, tracing the genre's evolution from its classic and disco lineage to a more varied soundscape. The first decade of the new millennium was a formative time for house music, steering it into various sub-genres and stylistic flourishes. Sure, industry stalwarts like Eric Kupper, David Morales, and Full Intention continued their contributions. But this era also welcomed new talents like Freemasons, Seamus Haji, Moto Blanco, and Bob Sinclar, who offered fresh perspectives and interpretations for a new wave of dance music aficionados. This collection, the first of a multi-series set, aims to provide valuable insights into the house music landscape from 2000 to 2009. Packed with tracks that span the breadth of stylistic approaches of the time, you'll find a lot here that'll transport you back to simpler, perhaps more rhythmic times. Let's delve into some featured tracks. Praise Cats and Andrea Love comes in hard with "Shined On Me," graced by a Bini & Martini Re-Vocal Mix. The song carries the timeless house element, presented with a new millennial charm. Clubland's "Let's Get Busy" features Sami Dee's Classic House Remix, a track that has succeeded in encapsulating the energetic spirit of early millennial house music while keeping its roots firmly implanted in the burgeoning House scene from the late 1980s. Barbara Tucker featuring Darryl D'Bonneau gives us "Stop Playing With My Mind," rendered in Full Intention's unmistakable style. Meanwhile, Armand Van Helden's "I Want Your Soul" serves as a rhythmic manifesto of what house music had become at the turn of the millennium. Moloko's iconic “Sing It Back” finds new life in the Boris Musical Mix, offering an idyllic blend of retro and contemporary sounds. Another standout, Bob Sinclar's "I Feel For You," brings out a touch of romantic nostalgia that so often accompanies dance tracks. Further spicing up this compilation are tracks like Haji & Emanuel's “Weekend” in the ATFC Wet Weekend Mix, and David Guetta's collaboration with Estelle on “One Love,” extended into a multi-minute audio experience that captures the wide-ranging dynamics of early Millennial House Music Classics. So, if house music is a passion you share or even an interest you're keen to explore, you're in for a delightful journey.
