Here's how they looked at suffering (or dying) for their faith:I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. (1 Peter 1:3-6)They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. (Revelation 12:11)God sometimes takes the righteous away to spare them from evil.The righteous perish, and no one ponders it in his heart; devout men are taken away, and no one understands that the righteous are taken away to be spared from evil. Those who walk uprightly enter into peace; they find rest as they lie in death. (Isaiah 57:1-2)Don't fear you will be a burden to others.People sometimes fear dying because they think they will be a burden to others. That's a normal end-of-life fear. But the Bible says we are all connected to one another (Romans 12:4-8 and 1 Corinthians 12:12-27). God expects us to care for one another. Although it sometimes can be a burden, caring for others can also be a blessing, for we give of ourselves that we become more like Christ.And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. (Romans 8:28)Don't fear for those you will leave behind.If you die before your spouse, children, parents or other significant people in your life, they likely will miss you. If you die when they are living with you, they probably will miss your love, support, and care. Yet God loves them much more than you do.Write a will and provide as best you can for the future, then put yourself and your family in God's hands. Don't be afraid of death or dying for their sake. If you die first, God will still be with them. Remember, he loves them much more than you do.But you, O God, do see trouble and grief; you consider it to take it in hand. The victim commits himself to you; you are the helper of the fatherless. (Psalm 10:14)A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. (Psalm 68:5)Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. (Philippians 4:6-8)Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7)Overcome the fear of death or dying — you have a purpose.Let the verses in this study help you overcome being afraid of death or afraid of dying. But don't stop there. God wants you to make a difference while you are here on earth. He wants you to touch the world for Christ. Meditate on the verses on this page, overcome your fear of death, then make a difference for Christ!For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (Ephesians 2:10)For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! By eight weeks of age, infants can tell the difference between their mother’s and father’s interaction with them.Fathers play differently.Fathers tickle more, they wrestle, and they throw their children in the air (while mother says . . . Not so high!). Fathers chase their children and rough-house with them. Girls and boys both learn a healthy balance between timidity and aggression.Fathers build confidence.Go to any playground and listen to the parents. Who is encouraging kids to swing or climb just a little higher, ride their bike just a little faster, throw just a little harder? Who is encouraging kids to be careful? Mothers protect and dads encourage kids to push the limits.Either of these parenting styles by themselves can be unhealthy. One can tend toward encouraging risk without consideration of consequences. The other tends to avoid risk, which can fail to build independence and confidence.Fathers communicate differently.A major study showed that when speaking to children, mothers and fathers are different. Mothers will simplify their words and speak on the child's level. Men are not as inclined to modify their language for the child. The mother's way facilitates immediate communication; the father's way challenges the child to expand her vocabulary and linguistic skills — an important building block of academic success.Fathers discipline differently.Educational psychologist Carol Gilligan tells us that fathers stress justice, fairness and duty (based on rules), while mothers stress sympathy, care and help (based on relationships). The one who does what is right is righteous, just as He is righteous. The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God.God has been revealing our value to Him.God told me that this must because He needs to show us strong truth to change us.There must be change or there is no growth.There is no change without the recognition of the need to change through dysfunction.The law came before grace.Many today have only known grace.Grace cannot flow like it needs to forward us without the backgrounding of obedience to the law.Many are using grace as a covering for disobedience or doing wrong.It’s supposed to be used for us to have another chance while we’re learning how to overcome the area that’s tripping us up.Instead, we’re just making excuses for not overcoming and blaming it on someone else, our wounding or something from our past.The devil does not care about your wounding, past or anything.We are to be overcoming every enemy by not agreeing with them in our actions.1 Peter 4:17 NASIt is time for judgment to begin with the household of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God?We have a misconception that disobedience can go on forever and God’s grace will reset us.This is true with forgiveness but not qualifying to position in God’s kingdom.Jesus healed a man, found him later and told him in John 5:14 NKJV See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you.Paul had a weakness where he had trouble overcoming and after praying God told him in.2 Corinthians 12:9 NAS My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.This is what grace is for.This grace was to perfect him in power where he was once weak.We had an outpouring in the 80’s but God’s people just used it to affirm who was the greatest instead of changing them.We need an outpouring of power now to change our weaknesses.► Let’s look some who’s disobedience and lack of change affected them very negatively:Adam EveThose under 40 in the wildernessEli the priestKing SaulJudasAnanias and Sapphira5 Foolish VirginsServant that buried his talentWedding guests with excusesLukewarm in RevelationsThose who take the mark of the beastWhy is it sohard for people to change?Refusal to Recognize FailureNeed for Change Destabilizes ThemBy definition, change is a departure from the past.Those people associated with the last version, the one that didn’t work or the one that’s being superseded and are likely to be defensive about it.The thought comes in, “If I’m wrong in this area, what if everything is wrong.”EgoSome simply don’t want to admit being wrong.Some need to have an image of being on top of things.Perceived Loss of ControlThe belief that admitting to change gives other control over us.Loss of Brain RewardOur brain adjusts to receive reward chemicals by know tasks. When the task changes our brain must change to begin rewarding again.Our basal ganglia in the ancestral or primitive brain are responsible for “wiring” habits. This cluster of nerve cell bodies is involved in functions such as automatic or routine behaviors (e.g., habits) that are familiar and make us feel good.In a way our inertia works against us.More WorkChange is often more work.
