Transcript:Hello, this is Pastor Don of Christ Redeemer Church. Welcome to The Kingdom Perspective. Our God is a God of abundance and generosity. This is seen in who He is and in all that He does. Just consider something as common as the earth God created, the ground we all walk on. It's made of dirt and rock. It's so cheap and mundane we trample it underfoot without thought. It's just “dirt”! Yet, that dirt is so rich and diverse in its elements that we can dig into it and draw out materials to produce stunning works of art and powerful supercomputers. We can fashion its elements into cars and smartphones. We can use it to construct buildings so tall they literally reach the clouds. We can split the atoms of some of these elements to create power for modern civilization. We can use other elements to make spaceships that explore the outer reaches of our solar system. This inherent abundance is why in Genesis, God commanded humans to “cultivate” the earth (Genesis 2). The word cultivate implies a generous potential hidden in the dirt under our feet—that God created the earth in such a way it can be developed and fashioned into something greater than it is. In this we see we need not have a scarcity mindset with the resources God has given to us. We can have a generosity abundance mindset, giving our stuff away to the glory of God, “cultivating” it, knowing God is able to return it multiplied to meet our every need. Something to think about from The Kingdom Perspective. “After I had given the deed of purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, I prayed to the Lord, saying: ‘Ah, Lord God! It is you who have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for you. You show steadfast love to thousands, but you repay the guilt of fathers to their children after them, O great and mighty God, whose name is the Lord of hosts, great in counsel and mighty in deed, whose eyes are open to all the ways of the children of man, rewarding each one according to his ways and according to the fruit of his deeds.'”~Jeremiah 32:16-19 (ESV) “Now a river flowed out of Eden to water the garden; and from there it divided and became four rivers. The name of the first is Pishon; it flows around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold. The gold of that land is good; the bdellium and the onyx stone are there. The name of the second river is Gihon; it flows around the whole land of Cush. The name of the third river is Tigris; it flows east of Assyria. And the fourth river is the Euphrates. Then the Lord God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it.”~Genesis 2:10-15

Havilah Malone is an author, actress, producer, and speaker. She's written some best selling books, and you'd probably recognize her from a national commercial or two. These are the names of the sons of Yishma'el, listed in the order of their birth. The firstborn of Yishma'el was N'vayot; followed by Kedar, Adbe'el, Mivsam, Mishma, Dumah, Massa, Hadad, Teima, Y'tur, Nafish and Kedmah. (Maftir) These are the sons of Yishma'el, and these are their names, according to their settlements and camps, twelve tribal rulers. This is how long Yishma'el lived: 137 years. Then he breathed his last, died and was gathered to his people. Yishma'el's sons lived between Havilah and Shur, near Egypt as you go toward Ashur; he settled near all his kinsmen.Why do we treat Ishmael like Cain?Genesis 25:19-23Here is the history of Yitz'chak, Avraham's son. Avraham fathered Yitz'chak. Yitz'chak was forty years old when he took Rivkah, the daughter of B'tu'el the Arami from Paddan-Aram and sister of Lavan the Arami, to be his wife. Yitz'chak prayed to Adonai on behalf of his wife, because she was childless. Adonai heeded his prayer, and Rivkah became pregnant. The children fought with each other inside her so much that she said, "If it's going to be like this, why go on living?" So she went to inquire of Adonai, who answered her, "There are two nations in your womb. From birth they will be two rival peoples. One of these peoples will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger."Genesis 25:24-26When the time for her delivery came, there were twins in her womb. The first to come out was reddish and covered all over with hair, like a coat; so they named him 'Esav [completely formed, that is, having hair already]. Then his brother emerged, with his hand holding 'Esav's heel, so he was called Ya'akov [he catches by the heel, he supplants]. Yitz'chak was sixty years old when she bore them.Genesis 25:27-28The boys grew; and 'Esav became a skillful hunter, an outdoorsman; while Ya'akov was a quiet man who stayed in the tents. Yitz'chak favored 'Esav, because he had a taste for game; Rivkah favored Ya'akov.Genesis 25:29-34One day when Ya'akov had cooked some stew, 'Esav came in from the open country, exhausted, and said to Ya'akov, "Please! Genesis 25 provides a transitional chapter in the Bible, weaving together the concluding events of Abraham's life and the beginning of the stories of his descendants, especially Isaac, Jacob, and Esau. Here's an in-depth overview: 1. Abraham's Later Life and Death (Verses 1-11) •Marriage to Keturah: After Sarah's death, Abraham marries Keturah, and they have several children: Zimran, Jokshan, Medan, Midian, Ishbak, and Shuah. God tells her that she is carrying two nations, foreshadowing the intense rivalry between her sons. God also reveals that the older (Esau) will serve the younger (Jacob), reversing traditional expectations of inheritance and status. •The Birth: Esau, the firstborn, is described as red and hairy. Jacob follows, holding Esau's heel, symbolizing his eventual role in surpassing Esau. 4. Esau Sells His Birthright to Jacob (Verses 27-34) •Growing Personalities: Esau becomes a skillful hunter, embodying a rugged, impulsive spirit, while Jacob is more reserved, staying close to the tents. •Parental Favoritism: Isaac favors Esau, likely due to his hunting skills, while Rebekah favors Jacob, setting up a future family dynamic filled with tension and favoritism. •The Birthright Exchange: One day, Esau returns from the field, famished, and begs Jacob for some of his lentil stew. Jacob seizes the opportunity to negotiate, asking Esau to sell his birthright (his position as firstborn) in exchange for the food. Driven by hunger and impatience, Esau agrees, disregarding the significance of his inheritance. This impulsive decision foreshadows future conflicts and Esau's disregard for his privileged role in the family. The Borel Fire was the largest wildfire in Kern County's history. It tore through 60,000 acres in the southern Sierra Nevada and consumed the historic town of Havilah earlier this summer. Are you doing what God said but not following through all the way? Welcome to the Daily Devo. I am Vince Miller. This week, we are in 1 Samuel 15. I've titled this chapter "The Consequences of Disobedience." So far in this chapter, Saul has been given the command of God through Samuel to wipe out the Amalekites for the long contention with the Israelites. Let's see how King Saul handles that in verses 4-9: So Saul summoned the people and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand men on foot, and ten thousand men of Judah. And Saul came to the city of Amalek and lay in wait in the valley. Then Saul said to the Kenites, “Go, depart; go down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them. For you showed kindness to all the people of Israel when they came up out of Egypt.” So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites. And Saul defeated the Amalekites from Havilah as far as Shur, which is east of Egypt. And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive and devoted to destruction all the people with the edge of the sword. But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep and of the oxen and of the fattened calves and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them. All that was despised and worthless they devoted to destruction. — 1 Samuel 15:4-9 We start with a picture of a massive force of 210,000 Israelite soldiers who swept over a large landmass, ending in a devastating defeat of the Amalekites. But after it is all said and done, King Saul spares Agag and some of the best cattle. This is called self-serving selective obedience. It's what we do when we know what God told us to do, but we don't follow all the way through with what he told us to do. There have been plenty of times in my life when I know what God wants me to do, but I do it half-heartedly, with a bad attitude, or incompletely. This is because I know what God wants me to do, but I really don't want to do it, and everyone can see that. Then, right in the middle of "doing it," I turn to serve myself because I cannot resist my selfish desires that are not being met. We have all done this. But note that this same act was King Saul's final undoing. This moment left a giant black mark on his leadership legacy. Today, repent of any self-serving selective obedience. Confess it and give it up. Start getting your heart to work in harmony with what God wants you to do. Don't do the Christian life half-heartedly. Do it with all your heart and rid yourself of self-serving selective obedience. God, I give you the secret parts of my heart that selfishly do what I want. Those places, desires, and intentions where I pretend to be obedient but am not fully obedient. Purify those places and desires so my obedience will be true, whole, and acceptable to you. How can you commit to fully following through on His commands? How might selective obedience be impacting your spiritual growth or relationships? Some of today's top storiesWe begin with efforts to address our homeless crisis. A temporary housing development in Oildale designed to help fight homelessness is bringing more meaning to the word "Hope."  The "Hope on Hart" Tiny Homes Village is open and filling up fast, providing immediate housing to dozens of people previously on the streets.  The tiny homes have a bed, air conditioning, and a place to put all your belongings, but most importantly, it is the start of a life off of the streets. Each unit houses one resident unless it is a couple, and residents are able to bring their pets.  Like homeless shelters, the tiny home village is filling up fast... and the group behind it, Hope the Mission, is now working on plans for expansion.  17 news has yet to get an answer as to when that could happen.Turning now to the Borel Fire...still holding at 91-percent containment more than three weeks after it broke out in mountains east of Bakersfield. Firefighters report they're continuing their work on stabilizing the burn area.     And they're urging resident to re-enter the area with caution to avoid unseen hazards the fire may have caused.     This while crews work to remove large amounts of equipment used during the fire. Meantime the Red Cross has two service centers open to help wildfire survivors recover.     One is at 6401 Lake Isabella Blvd in Lake Isabella through Monday. The other is in Bakersfield at 5305 Gilmore Ave. Friday through Sunday.Restoration efforts have started for the many victims of the Borel fire.    Some who lost their homes in Havilah say they didn't have insurance because the rates were sky high even before the Borel Fire.Making news around the state.    There are no more prisoners in California, however, there are tens of thousands of incarcerated persons.     As part of Governor Newsom's criminal justice reform, the language has changed to be more sensitive to people behind bars in California.    17's Connor Dore reports.    17's Rob Hagan has more.

Some of today's top storiesWe begin with news breaking overnight.    A man is dead this morning after being hit by a car in east Bakersfield. It happened last night just after 10 p.m.    The man was riding a bicycle on East California Avenue near South Tulare Street when he was hit.    He suffered major injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.    Bakersfield police say speed and impairment do NOT appear to be factors in this crash.    No arrests were made.    The man's identity has not been publicly released.Now to Kern County's newest wildfire called the Blue Fire.    The blue fire started about 12:30 Saturday afternoon near Sand Canyon Road in Caliente. The fire has burned 430 acres and was 35% contained as of the latest update. A level 2 evacuation is still in effect near Twin Oaks.    To check your zone go to the Genasys protect app or go to our website KGET.com.    The cause of the fire is under investigation.Now for an update on the Borel Fire in the mountains east of Bakersfield.    The fire is just over 59-thousand acres and is *91-percent contained.  223 structures were destroyed, according to Calfire.    Portions of Caliente Bodfish Road are still closed.     Access to the Havilah area is restricted to *residents only* for property assessments.    The Borel Fire started 19 days ago after a pick-up truck went over the edge of the canyon near the Democrat Day Use Area...catching fire and killing the driver.Kern County has opened a Local Assistance Center for state, local and nonprofit resources for survivors of the Borel Fire.    17's Rob Hagan more on the services and the people providing them.

Some of today's top storiesKern County has not stopped shaking... ever since that  5.2 magnitude earthquake rumbled through Tuesday night... shaking homes, breaking windows and waking people from their sleep. There have been hundreds of aftershocks - including a 4-point-4, widely felt, just after seven o'clock last night. The epicenter of Tuesday's 5-point-2 quake, was roughly eight miles west of Mettler and Interstate 5. Data from the U.S. Geological Survey shows there have been hundreds of aftershocks, although most of them were too small to feel.Seismologists say we can expect to feel aftershocks from Tuesday's quake for up to a week.    But, what they don't know is which fault the activity is coming from.    Kimberly Cheng with our sister station KTLA looks into the possibility it's a *new* fault.Local Public safety experts are calling for more preparedness and safety as we continue to experience aftershocks, and for future earthquakes to come. CSUB geological science professor William Krugh (CREW) says sometimes, people's first instincts aren't the safest bet. When earthquakes happen, Krugh says one of the worst things to do is run outside. Standing in a door way has long been reccomended, but that thinking now is considered out of date according to Krugh, because you could be hit by the door. So again, your best bet is to get under something sturdy, away from windows or un-anchored furniture, and protect your head. If you want other ways to keep yourself safe during these earthquakes, head to the disaster preparedness page on our website, KGET dot comYou can get early earthquake warnings by downloading the "My Shake" app for your smartphone.    This free app collects data from it's motion sensors to detect moderate-to-large earthquakes and can warn users to "drop, cover and hold on" shortly before a tremor begins.    Scientist say even a few seconds could be the  difference between life and death.Turning now to the Borel Fire, which charred the mountains east of Bakersfield. Crews are holding the line against what is now the largest fire in Kern County history--at almost 60-thousand acres burned.    The fire is 84-percent contained as of news time.    Yesterday afternon firefighters started escorting residents of Havilah and surrounding areas as they begin assessing the condition of their properties. KCFD reporting the fire destroyed over 200 structures, including 63 single family homes, 55 mobile homes and 34 motor homes...that's everything you see in red.    16 structures sustained varying levels of damage.    Almost 87-hundred other buildings escaped the flames' destruction--that's everything you see in black.    No injuries or deaths have been reported. And doctors are issuing this warning--do not disturb ash and debris the inferno left in its wake.    Harmful chemicals can become concentrated in the ash and soil following a fire.    And moving any of the waste from your property can disqualify hazardous waste removal assistance the county is trying to secure from the state.

Firefighters are battling the massive Park Fire near Chico which has already burned an area larger than the city of Los Angeles – making it the fifth largest wildfire in state history. Meanwhile, the Borel fire, which last weekend destroyed the town of Havilah, continues to burn in Kern County, and parts of Riverside county remain under evacuation orders because of wildfires there. Some of today's top storiesSupervisor Zack Scrivner has resigned from the Kern County Board of Supervisors, effective today, amid allegations of sexual assault.     Since 2011, he has represented the county's 2nd District, which includes eastern and central communities surrounding Tehachapi.     17's Jenny Huh has been following the investigation...    She joins us in studio now with more on the future of Scrivner's seat. the County released a statement late last night saying Board Chair David Couch received a letter of resignation from Scrivner.     Scrivner says he is resigning quote "for significant health and medical reasons."Wasco Mayor Alex Garcia has officially resigned his post, amid allegations swirling around social media. Calls for Garcia to resign came after a video posted by a shadowy group, accused Garcia of attempting to meet an underage boy in Bakersfield.     In the video, Garcia is also slapped by those behind the camera, who appear to have set up a sting operation targeting such questionable behavior.     17 News reached out to Garcia unsuccessfully multiple times for comment, but in a statement on his resignation, Garcia writes in part quote "I want to assure you that the accusations made against me are mischaracterized and inaccurate and certainly do not reflect who I am or what I stand for." Details on how to fill the vacancy will be finalized at Tuesday's City Council meeting. the Borel Fire, which has been terrorizing our mountain communities for more than a week now.    Firefighters reporting the inferno has now burned nearly 60-thousand acres and is 47-percent contained as of news time.{BANNER}    The Sheriff's office now asking evacuees of Havilah to report how many people lived in their homes at the time of the fire and if everyone has been accounted for to the Communications Center at 861-3110. Meantime, some folks are returning to their homes.    Evacuation warnings have been lifted in a few of the zones closest to Lake Isabella.    And a couple of evacuation orders have been downgraded to warnings...meaning those homeowners can return home...but they must be ready to go if another order comes down.    Yesterday evening, the Red Cross closed its evacuation center in Ridgecrest, however the shelter at the Tehachapi Education Center remains open.Countless individuals have reached out looking for ways to help the people who've lost everything in the Borel Fire. So we've teamed up with Kern River Valley Bridge Connection and the Boys and Girls club to collect gift cards for wildfire survivors.     We're looking for gift cards from Vons, Dollar General, Walmart, Grocery Outlet, Taco Bell and other places that these survivors can use in the Lake Isabella area. You can drop of those gift cards and any other monetary donations at our studios on 22nd and L in downtown Bakersfield through Tuesday.     Distribution is Wednesday at the Boys and Girls Club in Lake Isabella.

Some of today's top storiesWe begin this morning with the latest on the Borel Fire, still burning in the mountains east of Bakersfield.     People in those communities still watching and waiting to return to their homes...or at least to go back and see what's left.  The U.S. Forest Service now reporting this wildfire has scorched more than 58-thousand acres. But firefighters continue to make progress... The wildfire is about 39-percent contained as of news time.The Borel Fire started over a week ago when a pick-up truck crashed over the edge of the canyon on highway 178...catching fire and killing the driver. The inferno exploded in a matter of hours...eating up dry fuel and racing up unforgiving terrain...showing firefighters fire weather they'd never seen in that area before. It more than tripled in size Friday night...destroying the historic town of Havilah in the process. The blaze continued to spread over the weekend...threatening the communities of Bodfish and Lake Isabella. But conditions eased and firefighters reported containment for the first time Monday. State and local leaders declared Borel an emergency...and CHP reopened highway 178 Tuesday. Still thousands of people remain under evacuation orders and warnings...and, while the scope of the evacuations hasn't grown in days... there's no clear timeline of when those orders will be lifted.The people of Bodfish are slowly returning to their homes in the Kern River Valley, with the grim prospect of picking up the pieces from the fire that tore through their community.    17's Rob Hagan has more on the relief efforts there.Price gouging during an emergency like the Borel Fire is illegal.    That's the warning from California's top prosecutor. Attorney General Rob Bonta issuing a reminder to businesses and landlords they cannot raise the prices of essential supplies, hotels, rental housing and more during this time of a natural disaster.    He urges those who believe they've been the victim of price gouging to report it to their local authorities.    Any business found in violation will be subject to criminal prosecution that can result in a year in jail and a possible fine up to $10-thousand dollars.In your 17 News court watch...    The trial of two men charged with the murder of a Kern County corrections counselor is nearing its end after weeks of testimony. Closing arguments began in a Bakersfield courtroom yesterday.    Prosecutors say Robert Roberts and Sebastian Parra fatally shot prison counselor Benny Alcala Jr. while trying to rob him at the Stockdale Target parking lot the night of Aug. 24, 2022. But an attorney for Roberts says *Parra* was the shooter...painting him as a psychopath who killed Alcala for no reason.    Meantime, Para's lawyer says Roberts acted alone and his client was nearby, but didn't participate.    Closing arguments will resume later this morning.The discussion on a motion to postpone a preliminary hearing of a former Bakersfield police officer charged with vehicular manslaughter is set for today.    The motion hearing was originally scheduled for July 23rd.    But attorney David A. Torres made a special appearance for the attorney representing former officer Ricardo Robles...and asked that the hearing be moved to August First -- which is today.    The 24-year-old officer is accused of driving a patrol vehicle early January 19th, 2023 at more than 100 mph –- without overhead flashing lights activated — as he tried to catch up to a chase.     He ran a stop sign and hit a Honda Accord at the intersection of South Vineland and Muller roads -- killing the driver, Mario Lares, and seriously injuring the passenger, Ana Hernandez.

Some of today's top stories-- firefighters are gaining group on the Borel Fire, as it continues its trek across the Kern River Valley.    The blaze has quickly become one of Kern's largest and most destructive wildfires. All eyes were on Walker Basin and Rankin Ranch as flames inched closer.     But some of those folks are breathing a sigh of relief...as fire crews exhaust themselves to slow the spread. This after the Borel Fire nearly leveled the community of Havilah over the weekend...burning almost every building...including the historic courthouse. This fire started last Wednesday afternoon when a car crashed over the edge of the canyon...catching fire and killing the driver.    It more than tripled in size in a matter of days.    It has now scorched more than 57-thousand acres and is 5-percent contained. Still, hundreds of people remain under evacuation orders tonight...and more are watching and waiting to leave if the fire continues to spread.    Everyone living in the red zone is urged to go now if you haven't already.    Those living in the orange zones should pack and prepare to leave in case an order comes down.    The sheriff says, if you're told to go -- leave immediately.    Ignoring evacuation orders puts lives at risk, including first responders.Though the Borel Fire continues to rage, some residents are starting to see positive signs on the ground.           17's Robert Price paid a visit to the wildfire battlefield.while many in the Walker Basin area have evacuated, those who live on Rankin Ranch have decided to stay and protect their home.    17's Justin White visited the ranch once again to see how the Rankin family is faring with the Borel Fire looming nearby.

Fire crews were able to take advantage of calmer and cooler weather conditions on Saturday, to make some progress on the Park Fire burning in Northern California. But the fire has grown to be the sixth largest on record in California, burning more than 368,000 acres. In Kern County, the Borel Fire has also erupted in size, burning more than 50,000 acres. That includes tearing through the town of Havilah. The community is considered a California Historical Landmark, becoming the county seat in Kern County back in 1866. Some of today's top storiesRight now -- all eyes are on Walker Basin....and the renowned Rankin Ranch.    The fire is inching closer...and getting ready to move in.    But fire crews are standing by ready to fight...But the Borel Fire already used the community of Havilah to show its ferocity.    The flames moved in to the area like an unwanted guest -- burning almost everything, including nearly every home. This fire broke out Wednesday afternoon after a car crash sparked some brush.    These are the first few images of the fire shortly after igniting.    Since then, it has quickly become one of the largest and most destructive fires in Kern County history.    The firefight has been brutal as crews battle gusty winds, thick dry brush and steep terrain.    Officials say this area hasn't been scorched in decades, allowing this hungry fire to quickly devour everything in its path. the fire is more than 50-thousand acres.    That's about 80 square miles.    It is zero percent contained.    More than 2-thousand people have been told to leave immediately.    Another 3-thousand people have been told to get ready to evacuate. 1 Samuel 15:1-34 And Samuel said to Saul, “The Lord sent me to anoint you king over his people Israel; now therefore listen to the words of the Lord. 2 Thus says the Lord of hosts, ‘I have noted what Amalek did to Israel in opposing them on the way when they came up out of Egypt. 3 Now go and strike Amalek and devote to destruction all that they have. Do not spare them, but kill both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.'” 4 So Saul summoned the people and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand men on foot, and ten thousand men of Judah. 5 And Saul came to the city of Amalek and lay in wait in the valley. 6 Then Saul said to the Kenites, “Go, depart; go down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them. For you showed kindness to all the people of Israel when they came up out of Egypt.” So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites. 7 And Saul defeated the Amalekites from Havilah as far as Shur, which is east of Egypt. 8 And he took Agag the king of the Amalekites alive and devot-ed to destruction all the people with the edge of the sword. 9 But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep and of the oxen and of the fattened calves and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly destroy them. All that was des-pised and worthless they devoted to destruction. 10 The word of the Lord came to Samuel: 11 “I regret that I have made Saul king, for he has turned back from following me and has not performed my commandments.” And Samuel was angry, and he cried to the Lord all night. 12 And Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning. And it was told Samuel, “Saul came to Carmel, and behold, he set up a monument for himself and turned and passed on and went down to Gilgal.” 13 And Samuel came to Saul, and Saul said to him, “Blessed be you to the Lord. I have per-formed the commandment of the Lord.” 14 And Samuel said, “What then is this bleat-ing of the sheep in my ears and the lowing of the oxen that I hear?” 15 Saul said, “They have brought them from the Amalekites, for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen to sacrifice to the Lord your God, and the rest we have devoted to de-struction.” 16 Then Samuel said to Saul, “Stop! I will tell you what the Lord said to me this night.” And he said to him, “Speak.” 17 And Samuel said, “Though you are little in your own eyes, are you not the head of the tribes of Israel? The Lord anointed you king over Israel. 18 And the Lord sent you on a mission and said, ‘Go, devote to destruction the sinners, the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.' 19 Why then did you not obey the voice of the Lord? Why did you pounce on the spoil and do what was evil in the sight of the Lord?” 20 And Saul said to Samuel, “I have obeyed the voice of the Lord. I have gone on the mission on which the Lord sent me. I have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and I have devoted the Amalekites to destruction. 21 But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the best of the things devoted to destruction, to sacrifice to the Lord your God in Gilgal.” 22 And Samuel said, “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams. 23 For rebellion is as the sin of divination, and presumption is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, he has also rejected you from being king.” 24 Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice. 25 Now therefore, please pardon my sin and return with me that I may bow before the Lord.” 26 And Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you. For you have rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord has rejected you from being king over Israel.” 27 As Samuel turned to go away, Saul seized the skirt of his robe, and it tore. 28 And Samuel said to him, “The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you this day and has given it to a neighbor of yours, who is better than you. 29 And also the Glory of Israel will not lie or have regret, for he is not a man, that he should have regret.” 30 Then he said, “I have sinned; yet honor me now before the elders of my people and before Israel, and return with me, that I may bow before the Lord your God.” 31 So Samuel turned back after Saul, and Saul bowed before the Lord. 32 Then Samuel said, “Bring here to me Agag the king of the Amalekites.” And Agag came to him cheerfully. Agag said, “Surely the bitterness of death is past.” 33 And Sam-uel said, “As your sword has made women childless, so shall your mother be childless among women.” And Samuel hacked Agag to pieces before the Lord in Gilgal. 34 Then Samuel went to Ramah, and Saul went up to his house in Gibeah of Saul. 35 And Samuel did not see Saul again until the day of his death, but Samuel grieved over Saul. And the Lord regretted that he had made Saul king over Israel.

How do you discern what God is saying? The Enneagram teaches us that we're not all the same person. It allows us to be unique and have unique experiences. So, what if the key to hearing Him is understanding the distinct way he speaks to you?  Today's guest, pastor and author Havilah Cunnington reminds us we can't assume that God speaks to us all in the same way. “I think that's really important in life, to be different, to have a uniqueness, to understand that God doesn't interact with all of His kids the same way.  Just like I have four boys.
