On Day 14, we are combining concentration (shamatha meditation) and insight meditation (vipashyana) to create a daily meditation routine for positive energy, peace and happiness. On Day 13, we are observing the mind. In this meditation, we are focusing on not just the thoughts because in Sanskrit thoughts mean vikalpa which means conceptual activity in the mind. It includes observing thoughts/thinking, emotions, feelings, images, and memories. On Day 8, we will practice loving kindness meditation. This practice helps us cultivate compassion for ourselves and all sentient beings. In one of the many studies, 139 participants were randomly assigned to either a 7-week Loving-kindness intervention or a waitlist control group. Those who practiced this meditation reported increased positive emotions (e.g., love, joy, gratitude).
