My conversation with renowned psychologist Dr. Lisa Miller takes us deep into the fascinating intersection of spirituality and neuroscience. As a pioneer in the field and professor at Columbia University, Dr. Miller shares groundbreaking research on how our brains are actually wired for spiritual connection. Through powerful personal stories, including her own journey through infertility and adoption, she reveals how depression often serves as a spiritual wake-up call rather than just a medical condition. We explore the science behind synchronicities, the power of choosing love even in difficult times, and how developing our "awakened brain" can transform our lives. Whether you're struggling with mental health, searching for deeper meaning, or simply curious about the science behind spirituality, this episode offers profound insights on connecting with something greater than ourselves.Dr. Lisa Miller's websiteDr. Lisa Miller on InstagramIn this episode you will learn:Why depression is often a developmental gateway to spiritual awakening rather than just a medical conditionHow our brains are physically wired for spiritual connection through three distinct neural networksThe scientific evidence showing that spirituality significantly reduces depression, addiction and suicide riskWhy synchronicities aren't random coincidences but guidance markers on our spiritual pathHow releasing ego control and embracing life's "yellow doors" leads to unexpected blessingsFor more information go to https://www.lewishowes.com/1708For more Greatness text PODCAST to +1 (614) 350-3960More SOG episodes we think you'll love:David Ghiyam – greatness.lnk.to/1692SCDr. James R. This episode is brought to you by Bon Charge, Momentous, and Lifeforce. Our minds are incredibly powerful, and our mindset and thoughts profoundly influence our health, manifestations, and actions. However, when faced with challenges or stuck in repetitive patterns, knowing how to break free from negative thoughts or tendencies can be difficult. Today's episode explores how to overcome past programming and rewire our brains to create the life we envision for ourselves mindfully and purposefully. Today on The Dhru Purohit Show, we bring you a special compilation episode featuring Dhru's conversations with experts on setting intentions, manifesting goals, and giving love to the aspirations in our lives. Dr. Bruce Lipton explains how our minds function like computers, with much of our programming shaped by our environment before age seven—often leading to self-sabotaging behaviors. Dr. James Doty shares insights on how we're all actively manifesting our lives and offers practical exercises to help clarify our manifestation goals. Dr. Tara Swart provides actionable tips to overcome self-doubt and build lasting confidence. If you have big dreams for 2025, this episode is for you. In this episode, Dhru and his guests dive into: Programming that's coming from within versus externally (02:34) What manifestation can do to your life (23:14) Reclaiming focus is key, and stepping away from noise (26:54) Strengthen the power of attention: what to start and what to stop (31:10) Power of subconscious mind (35:29) Addressing the voice in my head (38:28) Ghost beliefs can be helpful and serve a purpose (41:34) What evidence should I be looking for to know I am on the right path (46:00) Overcoming the fear to take action (50:34) Priming the brain to expect good rather than expecting the worst (54:31) Final thoughts (55:46) Bruce Lipton, stem cell biologist and bestselling author of The Biology of Belief, Spontaneous Evolution, and The Honeymoon Effect, challenges the idea that genes solely determine our destiny, emphasizing the role of perception and experience in health. Dr. James R. Doty, MD, is a Stanford Neurosurgery professor and founder of the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE). He is also the New York Times bestselling author of Into the Magic Shop. Dr. Tara Swart is a neuroscientist, former psychiatric doctor, and senior lecturer at MIT Sloan. Today, Lewis sits down with neurosurgeon and author Dr. James R. Doty to explore the fascinating science of manifestation and how it connects to our beliefs, emotions, and actions. Dr. Doty breaks down the difference between the law of attraction and manifestation, shining a light on the immense power of our subconscious mind. He shares how heart vibrations are stronger than brain waves and explains why changing decades-old belief systems is so challenging. Dr. Doty opens up about overcoming limiting beliefs, the crucial role of positivity in shifting our mindset, and how our thoughts and emotions directly influence what we manifest. He also digs into the importance of love versus lack in driving impact, why synchronicities matter, and how we can balance being unattached to outcomes while staying open to magic.Buy his new book for yourself and a friend! In a captivating episode of Inside Personal Growth, Dr. James Doty, neurosurgeon and author of "Mind Magic: The Neuroscience of Manifestation and How It Changes Everything," shares profound insights into how our minds can shape our realities. This interview delves deep into the themes of compassion, neuroplasticity, and the power of intention.
In the last episode I had James R Doty on the show. James is a neurosurgeon, a professor at Stanford, and author of Mind Magic: The Neuroscience of Manifestation And How It Changes Everything. I keep hearing feedback about the show and what most people are responding to is the concept of focusing on what you want, not on what you don't want. Our survival oriented, fear and negativity biased minds give primary focus to what we don't want. This is incredibly important. It's monumental and fundamental to the lives and realities we find ourselves in. Let me walk you through the eight key areas of life and give you a quick example you will easily grasp, and can immediately put into action. Friends, speaking of the 8 key areas of life, there is nothing I am more passionate about that helping people clarify what authentically drives them, and getting them in alignment. I have a special fondness for helping people work at what drives them. Notice I didn't say, get you driven to work. That's where we get it backwards. I want you working, at what drives you. If invite you to email me. Let's talk. I promise a personal response. kmiller@kevinmiller.co. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
I've continued to be skeptical of the whole “manifesting” concept, until now. As I've finally shown and convinced that I have been and always am manifesting most of my life. I don't believe I'm all powerful or that I am God. But I do find that I generally reap what I sow. What my mind dwells on seems to come to pass, and my mind…our minds…naturally tend toward negative thoughts. If I keep thinking I don't want to get sick, I don't want to get sick, my subconscious just comprehends a constant focus on sickness. And goes to work towards it. What I need to do is focus on being well. Being well. Being well. And let my subconscious work on that. Let it bolster my immune system and let it steer me toward feeling positive and optimistic and increasing my awareness of making better health choices and avoiding things that weaken me. To expound on this topic from a scientific perspective, I bring you James R. Doty. James is a brain surgeon. His playground is the brain. And he has studied the concept of manifesting from a neurological standpoint and leaves the woo-woo out of the conversation. Dr Doty has been on the faculty of the Stanford University School of Medicine since 1997 in the Neurosurgery Department as a professor and more recently as an adjunct professor. He is also the founder and director of the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE) at Stanford, of which His Holiness the Dalai Lama is the founding benefactor. James' new book is Mind Magic: The Neuroscience of Manifestation And How It Changes Everything. I admittedly brought up faith and God and I feel they can and do coexist. But you can listen in and decide for yourself. But James bring us to consider neurological issues like “value tagging” and our “selective attention system” and a concept I feel is really tangible called “target fixation” which often gets brought up in regards to motorcycle accidents, where when a rider becomes so fixated on an unwanted target ahead that causes them to unconsciously steer into the direction of their gaze. Focus on where you want to go, not on where you don't want to go. That concept alone covers a lot of ground on what the neuroscience of manifesting reveals for us. This is more than hopeful. As leaders, we hear about the importance of making strategic choices based on “the data.” But what if that's not the whole story? What if there was a way to look deeper past the numbers, glean better insights, and use a more analytical approach to drive better decisions and organizational growth? What if this shift in thinking was the key to adaptation — which is now more important than ever? Our guest this week is someone who can teach us how to think that way. As a Chief Operating Officer, Lisa Schwartz pinpoint changes in Mathematica's business context and determine how the organization will adapt to stay strong and competitive. She drives operational excellence by overseeing day-to-day business performance, establishing and maintaining alignment across all business leaders, and tracking, monitoring, analyzing, and interpreting key performance indicators. Tune into the full episode for more on how leaders can make better evidence-based strategic decisions, new expectations of today's crop of leaders, how to design a better hybrid work experience at an organization, and more. Here's a Glimpse of What You'll Learn: More about the purpose and origin story of Lisa's company, Mathematica — and why the organization is not a “profit maximizing” company What led Lisa to leaving academia, why her story is about “stepping on and off new paths,” and what she had to change about herself when she stepped into a COO role The thing Lisa said to her CEO that “no business book” would ever advise you to do The “palpable energy” Lisa felt at the beginning of the COVID pandemic — and why she's trying to recreate that level of human connection within her company How the expectations of leaders have changed post-pandemic, and why Lisa believes this is the era of “compassionate leadership” Why the hybrid work experience became the most important piece to figure out in Mathematica's strategic plan In the time of generative AI, why Lisa believes there's more need for “humanness” The difference between data-backed and emotional decisions, and how companies can figure out how to make the best strategic choices The difference between data and evidence The daily practices that Lisa uses to be her best self, and why integrity and generosity are the metrics she uses to measure success in her personal life Resources Mentioned in This Episode: Mathematica website On the Evidence Podcast Lisa Schwartz on LinkedIn “Into the Magic Shop: A Neurosurgeon's Quest to Discover the Mysteries of the Brain and the Secrets of the Heart” by James R. In the third part of his conversation with Host Helen Lee, Dr James Doty shares his vision of creating a World Compassion Festival that engages major cities worldwide in acts of compassion. He discusses the importance of kindness and compassion in making a positive impact on others' lives, emphasising that anyone can contribute to the betterment of the world through small acts of kindness. Dr Doty also reflects on his own journey of suffering and how it has shaped his compassionate nature. Additionally, he discusses his work at CCARE, where they offer programs on compassion training and self-compassion for first responders and healthcare workers, among other things. Dr Doty is the founder and director of CCARE, the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education at Stanford, of which the Dalai Lama is the founding benefactor. He is also the author of two books: 1) Into The Magic Shop - A Neurosurgeon's Quest to Discover the Mysteries of the Brain and the Secrets of the Heart and 2) Mind Magic: The Neuroscience of Manifestation and How It Changes Everything. Into The Magic Shop is his award-winning New York Times bestseller about the extraordinary things that can happen when we harness the power of both the brain and the heart, originally published in 2016. And Mind Magic will be out in 2024. In addition, he was Clinical professor of neurosurgery at Stanford University and is currently Adjunct Professor there as well as Founder & CEO at Happi AI, LLC. KEY TAKEAWAYS Dr Doty's idea of creating a World Compassion Festival aims to engage major cities worldwide in compassionate acts, promoting the reality of our oneness and allowing individuals to get involved in activities that benefit the planet and its inhabitants. Every individual has the ability to improve the life of at least one other person each day through simple acts of kindness, such as offering a smile, buying a meal, or spending time talking to someone in need. It is a good idea to encourage gratitude for positive experiences while recognising that even painful events can ultimately be seen as gifts that provide strength, insights, and wisdom. CCARE offers an applied compassion training program, self-compassion training for first responders and healthcare workers, and customised leadership programs. BEST MOMENTS "I always tell people that every day, each of us has the ability to improve the life of at least one other person." ~ Dr James Doty "I know what it's like to suffer. I know what it's like to hurt. I know what it's like to be hungry. I know what it's like to be homeless. And no one should have to suffer in that way." ~ Dr James Doty "The initial part of our soul purpose is actually to experience the difficulties and the challenges before we can even share with others." ~ Helen Lee "What I've learned is that, well, yes, on some level, you know, I've repeated my story many times for people. It's not about me, though. It's about telling a story that can impact people to help them overcome struggles and have belief in the possibilities." ~ Dr James Doty VALUABLE RESOURCES To become a member of the Transform and Thrive Club and benefit from powerful monthly live sessions on Zoom video calls and multimedia coaching, check out and sign up here: www.transformandthrive.club www.leeheiss.com www.facebook.com/leeheiss https://www.facebook.com/helenleeheiss/ https://www.facebook.com/groups/transformandthriveclub www.instagram.com/helenleeheiss enquiries@leeheiss.com ABOUT THE HOST Founder & Principal Coach of Lee Heiss Coaching, Helen Lee coached thousands of clients worldwide and multinationals in Asia-Pacific in the last three decades. Host Helen Lee welcomes neuroscientist Dr James Doty once more to continue their empowering conversation about the ways in which you can make life more magical. They discuss the existential crisis caused by climate change and the disproportionate power held by a small percentage of individuals who prioritise money and material possessions. The conversation delves into the need for collective action to overcome these barriers and create a more equitable world. And Mind Magic will be out in 2024. He was also Clinical professor of neurosurgery at Stanford University and currently Adjunct Professor there as well as Founder & CEO at Happi AI, LLC. KEY TAKEAWAYS The world is facing challenges that are causing distress and potential harm among younger generations, particularly related to climate change and sustainability. The majority of the world's problems are caused by a small percentage of people who crave money, position, and power. Overcoming these artificial barriers and creating positive change will require the collective effort of the majority of people in the world. The distribution of wealth and resources is highly unequal, with a small percentage of the population hoarding the majority of assets while others suffer from poverty and homelessness. We need to shift how we see the world and how we perceive who are the positive contributors to our world. We are not judged by how much money we have in the bank but by how much we help others in this world. Being of service to others, caring for others and unconditionally loving others stimulate others as opposed to manifesting for self. BEST MOMENTS "We have created for them an existential crisis related to climate change and sustainability." "The majority of the world's problems are caused by 5% or so of people who crave money, position, power." "If you simply got rid of half of the military budget, you could send everyone in the United States to get the best education in the world." "All the external affirmation in world is not going to make you happy, you define happiness for yourself." "When you chase things for yourself, ultimately you're going to be unhappy. When you wish to manifest, focus on being of service to others." "I was never more unhappy in my entire life than when I had all the material wealth, there was no incredible feeling that I was doing something wonderful." Massapequa ,Long Island makes sure its high school students know that mindfulness is important. High School English teacher, Lisa Davi proves in all she does that mindfulness matters. Lisa has developed and implemented a high school English elective course, to help students learn to love themselves and go your own way. What's up everyone? Welcome to episode two hundred four of Above Ground Podcast. This week we talk mindfulness, Don Miquel Ruiz and The Four Agreements, High School English and how we can learn to connect and stay connected to ourselves. Lisa's inspired idea sprouted when she started to notice a shift in students levels of anxiety, overwhelm and loneliness. Inspired by Tim O'Brien's, The Things They Carried, Lisa proposed the question to her tenth grade pre -AP class of what do you carry everyday? Then the second day she asked what do you carry mentally and emotionally? This assignment was issued for three years and Lisa was noticing a difficult trend to ignore, our teens were hurting. It was being exacerbated every year by culture, social media and our unwillingness to change the way educate our adolescents. In a world that is on hyper speed and it's harder to compete on every level, we as parents have an important role to play. We have to acknowledge and fix our shit. We owe it to our children and the world. The foundation of Lisa's Mindfulness Matters class is The Four Agreements by Don Miquel Ruiz. The district even goes as far as providing the students who enroll in this class their own copy. In turn, they take it out and spread it to parent, grand-parent, caregiver and society. Into the Magic Shop written by Dr. James R. Doty, Rhonda Byrnes book The Secret, which is about the Law of Attraction, and Ruiz's sequel, The Fifth Agreement round out the reading list for her English elective. An elective that not only is making the school district notice. CBS 2 Long Island News recently spotlighted the class on a broadcast and is bringing attention to this young but hopeful and needed program to be picked up District wide. Lisa Davi is a true change agent exemplifying Gandhi's words of, be the change you wish to see. Above Ground Podcast is grateful to be able to bring you these important InnerViews with mental health agents of change all over the globe. Please support and Buy AGP a Coffee. Welcome back to RTL the Podcast! CW - I talk about depression and anxiety and you may find this triggering. If I had recorded this episode in late 2022 like I had planned, I would have called it “The Year that Broke Me” but now, with the benefit of hindsight and a bit of time and space - I am declaring 2022 “The Year that Made Me.” In this honest conversation I share with you: The sensible, saccharine 2022 wrap-up social media post that I could have simply shared and left at that; My annual process of intention and goal setting; Why and how 2022 was such a hectic year; My experience with anxiety and depression; The background context to various factors that led to a challenging 2022; What happened in 2022; and My intentions for 2023. I hope you enjoy listening to this honest conversation and it helps open your eyes to the limitless possibilities of where your legal career may take you. Welcome to Part Two of the Love Yourself: Tear trilogy! If you listened to part one you'll know this already but just in case, we intended to publish this episode as a full album review like we normally do. We did however have even more to say about this album than normal, so whilst trying to edit several hours of recording into a normal length episode however we had the idea of publishing this album review in three parts, so if you feel like you're in the middle of an episode in this one that's the reason! In this episode we discuss sympathising with planets, the woes of running for nothing, JK's birthday karaoke, RM's vibing, and the eternal comforts of opening a door in our hearts where the members' love is waiting. Who gets most emotional over Magic Shop? Does Love Maze fit in an album about breaking up? Does Paradise deserve an OT7 performance? Listen for our takes! We normally say this in the episode, but we'll love you forever if you want to give the podcast a quick review! On Spotify you can just click the stars at the top of the feed, or on Apple Podcasts you can also click the stars and add a message if you want! :)Follow us on Insta @generationbts_ to see Natasha's excellent reels and other episode/content updates, or email us at GenerationBTSAllTheAlbums@gmail.com if you want to get in touch! When we feel psychologically safe, we feel free to speak our minds without risking criticism or dissent. It means we feel accepted as our true selves unconditionally, and we can be comfortable being open, honest and vulnerable. On this episode of IncludrPod, Jeffrey sits down with two special guests to discuss psychological safety and how it relates to inclusion in the workplace. Gus Alexiou is a journalist who regularly contributes articles about equity, diversity and inclusion to Forbes. After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at the age of 26, Gus was exposed to the injustices people living with disabilities regularly experience at work. To help put Gus's story in perspective, neurosurgeon, author and entrepreneur Dr. James R. Doty is also here with us today. Throughout his career, Dr. Doty has studied the neural bases for compassion and altruism, and he believes one of the major problems in our society is that people don't feel psychologically safe. Dr. Doty shares his take on the impacts of psychological safety and how we can all begin to create it from within.
A spirited discussion of the most interesting and inspiring book we've read in a long time. James R. Doty MD's autobiography, in which he shares a 4-step process of how to create the life we want. As a young boy of 12, without any support whatsoever (his parents, beyond dysfuctional) the story begins as Jim steps into a magic shop in his local California strip mall. There, he's taught this magical approach to life. Today, this same spiritual approach is called Mindfulness. Meditation. Compassion. Miraculously young Jim fulfills his intentions: of his family not getting evicted; of his becoming a doctor. Later, he meets the Dalai Lama and together, they are changing the world with the CCARE Foundation. For more, let's connect at tezalord.com

Jim Doty was a self-described juvenile delinquent raised in a violent and dysfunctional home when, at the age of twelve, he wandered into a magic shop and met someone who would change his life. Promising to show him REAL magic, a woman named Ruth would teach him what he later realized were methods of Eastern mysticism and higher consciousness awareness. Applying the techniques she taught him, he would transcend his disadvantaged childhood, go to college against all odds and end up a highly successful neurosurgeon teaching at Stanford University medical school. As a doctor he would learn that the truths Ruth revealed to him as a child are indeed the deepest truths of the human brain and heart. Follow Dr. James R. She shares with us her best advice on using mindfulness, which can be honed through meditation, to respond to situations & those around you rather than reacting to them. Claire also gives us some tips on approaching meditation as well as setting boundaries. This episode has a wealth of information on being more mindful for the holidays and beyond! Episode Recap: Interview with Claire Mark - 2:09, “You Want Me To Do What??” section - 41:53 Highlights: Claire describes mindfulness as paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment nonjudgmentally Meditation is a great place to practice mindfulness To work on the non-judgment part of mindfulness, Claire recommends using meditation to spend time with your thoughts, recognizing when you are thinking, and taking a step back from the thoughts by simply labeling - thinking or judging or feeling, etc. Mindfulness is helpful in real life as it allows you to respond vs react to a situation. This can be done by pausing before reacting to a situation so you can respond Simple ways to start a meditation practice: Sit, close your eyes, take a few deep breaths Use a mantra -- you can create your own mantra by thinking of what your intentions are for starting a meditation practice and then putting them into this statement: May I be… Think of meditation as pausing to take control of your thoughts When it comes to holiday plans, set some boundaries with what you can handle, including time with family & topics discussed. Questions to ask yourself when setting your boundaries: What can I handle? Where are my boundaries? How can I take care of myself so I don’t put myself into a position where I’m reacting & on edge? Slow down and be aware of what is going on around you Claire recommends a loving-kindness meditation practice for reinforcing positivity, compassion, and open-heartedness Books Claire Recommends: Comfortable with Uncertainty by Pema Chodrun Wherever You Go, There You Are by Jon Kabat-Zinn Waking Up by Sam Harris Into the Magic Shop by James R. But of all the accolades, all the amazing people who speak so highly of Dr James and his work, the thing that interests me the most, is how in the emptiness of a life filled struggle, what happened when in the search for a plastic thumb, he walked into a magic shop. what you will hear in this podcast: * the beauty of what happens when we have no idea why we are doing what we are doing, but we do it anyway * how the situations we are born into DO NOT always determine the life that is possible for us. * what happened to him when he rode his bike much farther than he would normally ride and walked into a magic shop *the power of a radiant smile *the point where the way one person sees the world and another who sees the world differently collide and what happens to change the reality of the world they see * what happened in the back room of a magic shop * the important of attending life * the narrative we have that has nothing to do with reality * how the change in narrative changed his perception of the world he saw * the power of a change of perception and what it allowed me to become * how being told things were not going to work and how he walked past that * when we change the way we see the world the world we see changes, going deeper into that. * the gift we have is how we respond to things, not the ability to change the things that happen. * equanimity - evenness in a world that moves up and down * attachment to transitory realities that bring unhappiness. * the gifts of pain * how the view of the angry kid and the way the world should respond to him but how this angry kid allowed this woman in a magic shop give him “psychological safety” * the biases that effect the interactions we have * the intersection point between the angry kid and the compassionate woman * the dirty window story * where did he learn some of the most valuable insights * the ego mind and the beginners mind * the story of the liquor story and the quart of vodka the story of the man and the friendship that emerged * the story of the homeless man and what he saw * the effect of listening to someone for only 10 minutes * the compassion center and how people would book appointments just so someone would listen to them * one of the greatest gift we can give to ourselves when we just listen to another. * what people think when we show our emotions and how people want to fix us. * the story of the village we used to grow up in and the moderation of the life we live now. * in the presence of great spiritual leaders and unconditional love * the story of the mirror maker * the bridge from the world we do not want to hand over to our children to the possibility that exist for what the world could be * his kind suggestion that everyone contributes to The Listening Tour. * the story of the 12 year child * thank you all for the gift of your time and to Dr James for the work he is doing and get involved with what he has created. * everyday we have the capacity to make one persons life better. to learn more about dr. Growing up in the high desert of California, Jim Doty was poor, with an alcoholic father and a mother chronically depressed and paralysed by a stroke. Today, he is the director of the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE) at Stanford University, of which the Dalai Lama is a founding benefactor. As a child, his life was at a dead end until at twelve he wandered into a magic shop looking for a plastic thumb. Instead, he met Ruth, a woman who taught him a series of exercises to ease his own suffering and manifest his greatest desires. Ruth's final mandate was that he keep his heart open and teach these techniques to others. She gave him his first glimpse of the unique relationship between the brain and the heart. Doty would go on to put Ruth's practices to work with extraordinary results. He achieved power and wealth that he could only imagine as a twelve-year-old. However, he neglects Ruth's most important lesson, to keep his heart open, with disastrous results. A spectacular charitable contribution that will virtually ruin him, changed his life. Part memoir, part science, part inspiration, and part practical instruction, "Into the Magic Shop", shows us how we can fundamentally change our lives by first changing our brains and our hearts. James R. Doty, MD, is a neurosurgeon and clinical professor at Stanford University. He shows us how to shape our own lives and of those around us by reframing, practicing compassion, and living with an open heart. Reframe Negative talk dominates our narrative. What we tell ourselves manifests in our lives. Positive talk is based on kindness towards oneself. Practice Compassion When you change the way you look at the world, then the world changes the way it interacts with you. Accepting the reality of a situation means that we can be free of reacting with anger. We can be compassionate and kind. Live with an Open Heart When we are kind and respectful, and treat every human being with dignity, people will bend over backwards to help us. The greatest gifts in life often come through painful events, which give us character, depth, wisdom, and insight. Find out more: James R. Doty, MD, is the founder of the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE) at Stanford University. He is also the author of "Into the Magic Shop", a book about how we can change our lives by practicing compassion and mindfulness.

Broadcast : April 4th, 2017 Jeanne was back in the studio tonight and she brought a guest - Marie-Alana LaChance, a Licensed Professional Counselor who holds a master degree in education and is a HypnoBirthing ® Certified Educator (lmariealana@gmail.com). Jeanne and Marie-Alana discussed many topics tonight. The conversation touched on abuse, bullying, choices, endorphins, fear, healing, pain, self love and so much more. A caller Barb, asks for relationship guidance. Jeanne offers some insight to her relationship and offers some guidance on increasing her own self worth to help improve the situation. We ask for prayers to go out to Barb. Pain was a topic of conversation as Marie-Alana shared some of her experiences with the birth process and HypnoBirthing. She explained how much more powerful our own endorphins are over morphine. Jeanne breaks out statistics! Insomniacs need to listen in for these numbers. We have emotional intelligence and need to listen to it because the pain and trauma can manifest into an illness. Things such as essential oils can be a great help in calming the mind. Jeanne mentioned she found excellent information in a couple books - Lissa Rankin's Mind Over Medicine and Into the Magic Shop by James R. Doty, MD. Rachel sent in an email asking for some assistance. Billy Mo Buckbee, our Connecticut State Representative and caretaker of Harrybrooke Park, New Milford CT, calls to discuss encounters with Frank A. Welcome to the Alphabet of the Heart Podcast Series. This Podcast Series features Dr James R. Doty, Neurosurgeon and Director of the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research Education (CCARE) at Stanford University, and Dr James Kirby, Clinical Psychologist and Visiting Scholar at CCARE. Each episode features Dr Doty and Dr Kirby discussing a mnemonic Dr Doty created called, "The Alphabet of the Heart", which he wrote about in his book, "Into the Magic Shop". Dr Doty and Dr Kirby discuss each letter of the mnemonic in, which includes compassion, dignity, equanimity, forgiveness, gratitude, humility, integrity, justice, kindness, and love. In each episode we provide personal reflections, research on the attribute, as well as practical tips to cultivate that specific attribute.
Chairman James R. Doty sat down with Don Nicolaisen, former SEC chief accountant and a public company audit committee chair and board member, to talk about his experiences as a one-time auditor and now board member. Mr. Nicolaisen recalls his days as a junior accountant when he raised an audit issue with a company’s audit committee. He also talks about the use of big data technology and the potential for a digital audit in the future. The recording took place at the PCAOB International Institute on Audit Regulation last year.

This week on Relationships 2.0 my special guest is James R. Doty, MD author of Into the Magic Shop: A Neurosurgeon’s Quest to Discover the Mysteries of the Brain and the Secrets of the Heart. About the book: Extraordinary things happen when we harness the power of both the brain and the heart. Growing up in the high desert of California, Jim Doty was poor, with an alcoholic father and a mother chronically depressed and paralyzed by a stroke. Today he is the director of the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE) at Stanford University, of which the Dalai Lama is a founding benefactor. But back then his life was at a dead end until at twelve he wandered into a magic shop looking for a plastic thumb. Instead he met Ruth, a woman who taught him a series of exercises to ease his own suffering and manifest his greatest desires. Her final mandate was that he keep his heart open and teach these techniques to others. She gave him his first glimpse of the unique relationship between the brain and the heart. Doty would go on to put Ruth’s practices to work with extraordinary results—power and wealth that he could only imagine as a twelve-year-old, riding his orange Sting-Ray bike. But he neglects Ruth’s most important lesson, to keep his heart open, with disastrous results—until he has the opportunity to make a spectacular charitable contribution that will virtually ruin him. Part memoir, part science, part inspiration, and part practical instruction, Into the Magic Shop shows us how we can fundamentally change our lives by first changing our brains and our hearts. About the author: James R. Doty, M.D., is a professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Stanford University and the director of the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE), where he researches the neuroscience of compassion and altruism. He is also a philanthropist funding health clinics throughout the world and has endowed scholarships and chairs at multiple universities. He serves on the board of a number of nonprofits, including the Charter for Compassion International and the Dalai Lama Foundation.
Manifestation has been widely dismissed as self-involved, materialistic phooey. Now, James R. Doty, MD—a Stanford neurosurgeon, New York Times bestselling author, and Dalai Lama collaborator—reveals that manifestation is rooted in science.Throughout his latest book, Mind Magic. Dr. Doty unveils his six-part plan for harnessing your mind's power to change your brain structure and reclaim your agency. He grounds you in practices for neurological transformation by strategically targeting your attention, desires, obstacles, intention, passion, and expectations, so you can consciously create the life you want.In addition to his medical expertise, Dr. Doty has the lived experience of using manifestation to revamp his reality. After he went from rags to riches back to rags, Dr. Doty overhauled his thinking to focus on being spiritually and morally centered. In turn, the riches stayed for the long haul.Advertiser's Link: Click HERE for the NEW fabulous offer from AG1 – with bonus product with your subscription! You can hear more about this and many other topics by listening to my podcast, SelfWork with Dr. Margaret Rutherford.
