Join Jessica for the Season 3 Finale, where she talks about the life of death with yogi, energy healer, and Death Doula Leslie Conner. This episode is one that Jessica has wanted to record for a long time, and is a topic that is often hidden behind a veil of fear or uncertainty in the Western world. She talks about the empowerment people can feel when they are given the choice of how to take control of their death narrative, rather than feeling like a “burden”, or not wanting to express emotions for fear of upsetting loved ones. The women discuss the differences between a Birth Doula and a Death Doula, and talk about how normalizing (and even celebrating death) can be healing for everyone involved. Tune in to this heavy hitter that will make you think about your own beliefs around death.

This week, Jessica was called to speak on a topic that is serious and near to her heart, in hopes of inspiring new (and seasoned) yoga teachers to hold themselves and their communities to a higher standard. Jessica illustrates why she is so passionate about this subject through some of her personal experiences, as well as offers her opinion on the ethical implications of recent events in the global yoga community. Tune in for a much needed, and possibly controversial, discussion as Jessica explains why she thinks the rational of “separate the man from the practice” is dangerous, and dismissive to victims of abuse in the yoga world landscape. But in 2011, in the middle of training to defend her World Title, Lindsey got a phone call that she was a perfect match to donate bone marrow to save an anonymous Leukemia patient. Lindsey didn’t think twice before saying yes, and going through the process of donating bone marrow not just once, but two separate times! Jenna works primarily as an ayurvedic postpartum doula, and trains other women to do the same (Jessica took her training, it is great!). She talks about the importance of the first 42 days after giving birth — how a new mother needs to rest, rebuild ojas/balance vata dosha, and bond with her baby. An ayurvedic postpartum doula comes into a new mother’s home and helps prepare nourishing foods, can help with breastfeeding/lactation, helps support the mother with physical recovery after delivery, and is there to help with bodywork/self-massage/abhyanga, breath work, and meditation. It is this idea of using the principles of ayurveda for “mothering the mother” to provide loving and safe support to the new mama during an immensely transitional period in her life.
