DJ DREZ is a multifaceted artist known for his roles as a peaceful visionary, sound ambassador, and skilled turntablist. His music transcends traditional boundaries, blending elements of hip-hop, world music, soul, funk, jazz, and reggae into what he describes as his "trademark sound and production." His work is not just about creating music but about facilitating an experience, whether it's through dance, yoga, or intimate gatherings. He has worked with an array of top artists including Blackstar, KRS-One, Macy Gray, and Nas, and has been involved with prestigious organizations like Adidas and the X Games. DJ DREZ is also a regular on the global festival circuit, sharing stages with the likes of Moby, Ziggy Marley, and De La Soul.Beyond his production as a DJ, Drez is a passionate yogi, embodying a lifestyle of discipline, gratitude, and compassion. His music has found a unique niche in the yoga community, where he has collaborated on projects like the "Rock Om" in-room yoga experience for Hard Rock Hotels.DJ DREZ continues to inspire as a lover of music, a student of life, and sometimes a teacher, always pushing the envelope of sound to new, universal heights. In this episode, DJ DREZ shares his journey from graffiti artist to DJ, exploring how his music has evolved over three decades from his early days in the hip-hop scene during the Golden Era, his exploration into Eastern philosophies, and how these experiences melded into his distinctive sound that blends hip-hop with spiritual and yogic influences. This episode delves into DREZ's philosophy of music as a tool for emotional and spiritual expression, offering a critique on modern society's tendency to numb out through substances or social media. He shares his vision of music that encourages listeners to feel genuinely, celebrating the spectrum of human emotions without external aids.We explore the concept of the "middle path" from yogic teachings, which DREZ applies to his life and art, seeking balance amidst life's chaos. He opens up about the personal challenges of maintaining this balance, especially in the context of long-term relationships and parenthood, providing a raw and honest look at the personal growth and introspection that come with these roles.DREZ's narrative is not just about music; it's about the journey of self-discovery, the healing power of sound, and the commitment to authenticity in an often superficial world. His reflections on creating music inspired by both abstract concepts and tangible life experiences offer listeners a profound insight into how art can mirror and shape our lives.Whether you're a long-time fan of DJ DREZ's work or new to his transformative sound, this conversation promises to enlighten, inspire, and perhaps even guide you toward a more conscious way of living.

I released a new ambient, instrumental album called "Meditations on Shiva". Each track is dedicated to an aspect of Shiva and features improvisations on one of my instruments over a low drone sound. Inspiration came from the poems of the great Indian sage Utpaladeva. It is perfect accompaniment for gentle/slow yoga or movement practice. Also great for listening while doing work, meditation or driving. The tracks were mixed and mastered by DJ Drez, who also made the cover art. As an independent artist, I rely on support of friends to help spread the word. It would make me very happy if you check it out, save the album to your library, put a few of the tracks on your playlists and/or share a story with one of your tracks. Thank you for your continued support. I hope you this music brings you joy. Why do we do meditations on the Full Moon? What's the “dark of the moon?” Does… it have anything to do with Pink Floyd? Is the moon “feminine” energy and the sun “masculine” energy? And why should we pay attention to this at all? This is my pragmatic-as-possible perspective on the super woo and super misperceptions about our relationship to the sun + moon—and why we should be very mindful about those connections. I'm also talking about Heart Centered Altars and creating those sacred spaces in our homes. My Heart Centered Altar Kit walks you through how to create a personal altar in accordance with nature and astrological alignments—that's dedicated to the well-being of all. So beautiful. This practice comes as a bonus when you become a Heart Centered Member. Explore here: daniellelaporte.com/membership Meditate with me on the Full Moon, or on the New Moon for a community practice—or, purchase and download any one of my meditation kits for your personal practice. Whenever, wherever works for you. My podcast theme is I AM LOVE, by DJ Drez feat. Marti Nikko. Available on Spotify + iTunes. Please support independent, positive music. xo

- 背景音乐 :Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavant by Marti Nikko & DJ Drez- 微博/微信公众号 @ jess_yaqi

DJ Drez is in demand as a producer, musical director and sound ambassador. A master of his craft in the studio and on stage, Drez cuts and composes profoundly original tracks that facilitate body movement practice of all forms— be it dance, yoga asana or after-hours intimate/ecstatic. Drez transforms the vibe of any scene his sound is set upon. Rooted in underground L.A. hiphop, Dr. EZ applies precise turn-table skills to a cutting edge vision for truly universal music, intelligently integrating elements of hiphop, world music, soul, funk, jazz, and reggae into his trademark sound and production.Drez's peacefully determined demeanor makes him a highly sought-after contributor to a variety of dynamic projects. In the midst of a non-stop, world-wide tour schedule, Drez has prepared another solo effort (Alpine Swift, available June 7 via Nectar Drop Music) while simultaneously producing a Sānskrit mantra record with his wife, vocalist Marti Nikko, and a straight-up hiphop album with longtime collaborator, Zaire Black, both expected to be ready for release in 2016.Drez has too deep a resume to mention in its entirety here, suffice it to say he has worked with a who's who of top artists (Blackstar, KRS 1, Black Eyed Peas, Macy Gray, Eminem, Project Blowed) and organizations (Adidas, X Games, ABC, Okay Player) while maintaining an extensive worldwide touring schedule, variously involving artists like Moby, Ziggy Marley, Common, Femi Kuti, De La Soul, Capleton, Nas, Lee Scratch Perry. Also see: BANDCAMP, INSTAGRAM and FACEBOOKWith love,StuSupport the show (https://stuartwatkins.org/podcast/)
This is the second in a series of short episodes that celebrate the beloved yoga teacher TKV Desikachar who died in 2016.Desikachar was the son of legendary yoga master T Krishnamacharya and teacher to the philosopher J Krishnamurti. He was a pioneer in the field of yoga therapy and author of the influential book The Heart of Yoga, published in 1995.This episode features highlights from an interview I recorded with Larry Payne, back in September 2018. In these excerpts Larry tells us of his first meeting with Desikachar and his father Krishnamacharya, and how his studies with Desikachar served as the foundation for his groundbreaking work in developing yoga therapy in the United States.Larry is the author of many books on yoga including the bestselling Yoga for Dummies book. In 1989, along with Dr. Richard Miller who I featured on the last episode of the podcast, he founded the International Association for Yoga Therapy. Larry went on to create the popular Yoga Rx program at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles where he continues to serve as coordinator and primary instructor.Musical interludes: DJ Drez, Forever For NowNeed support on your medicine path?1-to-1 yoga, plant medicine integration and transformative coaching with Brian Jameshttp://brianjames.caSupport the Podcast!1. Rooted in underground L.A. hiphop, Dr. EZ applies precise turn-table skills to a cutting edge vision for truly universal music, intelligently integrating elements of hiphop, world music, soul, funk, jazz, and reggae into his trademark sound and production. Drez’s peacefully determined demeanor makes him a highly sought-after contributor to a variety of dynamic projects. In the midst of a non-stop, world-wide tour schedule, Drez has prepared another solo effort (Alpine Swift, available June 7 via Nectar Drop Music) while simultaneously producing a Sānskrit mantra record with his wife, vocalist Marti Nikko, and a straight-up hiphop album with longtime collaborator, Zaire Black, both expected to be ready for release in 2016. Drez has too deep a resume to mention in its entirety here, suffice it to say he has worked with a who’s who of top artists (Blackstar, KRS 1, Black Eyed Peas, Macy Gray, Eminem, Project Blowed) and organizations (Adidas, X Games, ABC, Okay Player) while maintaining an extensive worldwide touring schedule, variously involving artists like Moby, Ziggy Marley, Common, Femi Kuti, De La Soul, Capleton, Nas, Lee Scratch Perry. djdrez.com eastforest.org/podcast
Indian American musician Sheela Bringi has been exploring the connections between her ancestral and actual homelands her entire life. The singer and instrumentalist plays the harp, harmonium and bansuri (Indian classical bamboo flute). As a young woman Bringi was influenced by M.I.A. and Dead Can Dance, studied with Cecil Taylor and Meredith Monk, while at the same time deepened her studies with Indian classical masters like Pandit G.S. Sachdev and Ustaad Aashish Khan. This unique background has resulted in her debut album, Incantations (Black Swan Sounds), rooted in India’s classical music tradition and the beauty of its mantras, as well as a groundbreaking exploration of American jazz and blues. The album was released in 2014 and garnered praise from National Public Radio, the Guardian, Public Radio International and more, and debuted at #9 on the iTunes World Music chart. She has performed in a wide range of venues, including concert halls and universities presenting traditional material, yoga studios leading kirtans and in dance clubs overtop throbbing, bass-heavy beats (she’s toured with Karsh Kale, DJ Drez, and many others). In 2016 she was an instrumental soloist on Madi Das’ GRAMMY-nominated album, Bhakti Without Borders. shebrings.com eastforest.org
