And more importantly, what if there was a way to change it? — We're talking about all of that and more in this episode. If you want to listen to this show without interruptions from advertisers, get a transcript of every episode, and advanced vocabulary guides to learn more effectively, subscribe to my patreon
The idea of a life of freedom and independence has become increasingly popular in recent years… and for good reason. Less drama, less compromise, fewer sacrifices, no heartbreak… there are (and have always been) tons of reasons not to get involved in a committed relationship. But is it possible that avoiding this commitment could actually be the worst thing for your life in the long run? Perhaps choosing to commit to someone is, on some level, an act of self-preservation. Let's talk about it.Timestamps:0:00 Intro1:02 The end of dating2:09 Explaining the clip13:55 Key takeaways26:56 You don't have much time28:53 Key takeaways45:51 The reason you need a partner47:37 Key takeaways1:05:58 ConclusionIf you love this podcast and want to show some support, click here

John Gottman's theory on Emotional Bids highlights an often overlooked aspect of communication; the way we respond to those who need something from us. There are 3 typical responses in situations like these: turning towards, turning away, and turning against. And you might be surprised how often you engage in each of these behaviors, as well as the effect it's having on your relationships.-If you love this podcast and want to show some support, click here

“What do you do (for a living)?” — It's one of the most common questions you'll get asked as an adult at social gatherings. Doesn't matter if it's a bar, a café, a networking event, or a family reunion. Work tends to be what occupies the majority of people's time, so naturally, this is what people will ask about when meeting each other for the first time. But as I get older, I tend to appreciate this question less and less because although it's meant to be a conversation starter, it usually has the opposite effect.-If you love this podcast and want to show some support, click here

In this episode, we're talking about the profound impact of habits on the course of one's life. The results we experience in various aspects of life, such as finance and fitness, are often delayed reflections of our habits. But the thought of forming new and healthier habits is often very daunting because we typically imagine the herculean effort we're going to have to make in order to form those habits. — However, with the help of James Clear (author of the book ‘Atomic Habits'), I'm going to expose you to a concept that might change the way you think about forming simple habits that will have a massive impact on your future.- If you love this podcast and want to show some support, subscribe on Patreon!
If you've ever traveled to a foreign country, then you may have experienced the manipulative pricing schemes that many people use to take advantage of customers who aren't familiar with the way things work in that country. In many places, it's common practice to charge tourists up to 10 times the price that a local would pay for the same products or services, especially if the tourists come from North American or European countries. — In this episode, I'll speak about the practicality and morality of such pricing schemes, and why I think they're a bad idea.Timestamps:0:00 Intro0:28 Americans should pay more2:58 It keeps getting worse for Japan5:33 Arguments FOR discrimination8:49 The same logic, applied to race11:17 Moral implications14:34 Potential effects18:14 Is this really “equity”?22:15 Envy, hatred, and greed24:34 Who's really making things more expensive?25:31 Pocket watching28:37 Playing the “social justice” game30:25 We're just trying to make a profit33:55 Foreigners are not responsible for your problems-If you love this podcast and want to show some support, click here
Being a parent is one of the many things in life that doesn't come with an instruction manual. So naturally anyone who decides to become a parent is bound to make mistakes with the kids at some point. I don't have kids, but I have to imagine that as a parent, you're making mistakes all the time. — I mean, as a human, we're making mistakes all the time so I'm sure there's no difference. One of the most detrimental mistakes that I've seen countless times and also experienced myself is what some people might call over-functioning for one's children.Over-functioning is basically doing things for your children that they can do for themselves. Some people say they do it out of love, others do it out of fear, but at the end of the day, constantly doing things for people that they can do for themselves isn't always a simple act of kindness. Sometimes you can train those people to be so dependent on you that they can't do anything for themselves. And that's not good for anyone. So in today's episode, we're going to listen to a short clip from a conversation about this topic and I'll be here to explain all the nouns, verbs, and adjectives and then I'll leave you with something to think about.-If you love this podcast and want to show some support, subscribe on Patreon!
