Having a child is amazing! It's also terrifying for many of us. There isn't a handbook or class or secret notebook filled with all the right answers. You just learn as you go. And that's exactly what Brittiona and I discuss in this episode! Brittiona Lewis is the new mom to a beautiful daughter, wife, career woman and founder of The Black Mom Collective. As a new mom, she shares her experiences with navigating motherhood, life, goals and self-care. Brittiona and I touch on how challenging motherhood as a black woman can be and what we can do to keep ourselves grounded, healthy and sane! The thing about Unapologetic Motherhood is that you get to define what that means for you! You get to determine your boundaries, your leaps, your desires, your ambition and your expectations. As a mother, it is not always easy (usually never easy) to choose you first, but in 2020, it is a trend that must continue. You are the person that sets the tone for your home, your life and your children. Make sure you are making yourself a priority so that the dreams you have written in those notebooks, become dreams fulfilled. "I don't live for those kids, I live because of them!" Being a mother is HARD!!!! You will never know what you're doing. The most you and I can do is love them, nurture them and show them what it means to live a life they will love. As I speak with Enisha Garrett, the woman behind the Black Women Mean Business magazine, I share what the journey of unapologetic motherhood looks like for me. If someone would have told me that I would have 4 kids, and a business, I would have laughed at them. Now I bust my ass to show my children that anything they want is possible. On this episode, Enisha gets into my mind about mothering and how I chose to do my own thing and enjoy life at the same time. We talk about things I have learned in my 16 (almost 17) years of parenthood and how I had to unlearn some things that I did with my older children so we could all be better, happier and more fulfilled. Mom guilt is real! Unfortunately it's one topic we do not talk about enough. Have you ever felt like your children were "suffering" (when they clearly were not) from your determination or desire to be successful, happy and fulfilled? Have you had that mom moment where you truly considered giving up every single goal because your children needed you? Well, on this episode of The Unapologetic Mom, Simone and JaVaughna discuss releasing the guilt, becoming grounded, holding yourself accountable and going after your dreams. Simone shares how she learned to release herself from the guilt of being a working mother and how to include her children in her pursuit of success and happiness. After this conversation, you will feel obligated to trust yourself more and worry less. Simone is the Unapologetic Mom of 3 and founder of She Rise Academy where she helps other women start their coaching businesses. We are our children's first role model. It is truly our responsibility to lead them into greatness by showing them how to be the amazing person they were sent here to be. The challenge is that too often we shrink our own dreams because of fear and a lack of self belief so it becomes difficult to show our babies what it looks like to live purposefully. In this episode Electra and JaVaughna get deep into the conversation of living on purpose, pursuing dreams, being the best version of yourself and releasing the fear that comes with a huge dream and desire to be the person you are destined to be. Electra is the founder of Mysteek Naturals and the unapologetic mom of 2. Being a divorcee, Electra used that fire to push her into greatness. I was not prepared to jump out of the 2020 plane without a parachute, but here I am... I think many of us feel like we were thrown from the bus rather than voluntarily getting off at our stop and it has not been magical, fun or the least bit amusing. The way I envisioned 2020 and the way it has presented itself are total and complete opposites! The contradiction has only recently become somewhat comical because you know the saying "You've got to laugh to keep from crying". This episode was not recorded in a studio with podcast software. It was recorded in my car, on my way home from working my essential healthcare job, on the very first day that I felt "normal" in 4 weeks. Why?? Well, this is my truth and if I am not sharing my truths with you guys, what am I here for? I hope that this short yet powerful moment of transparency, honesty and hopefully inspiration will give you the courage, confidence and love to begin to create a new normal for you and your family. As always make sure you're following The Unapologetic Mom Podcast on Facebook, @coachjavaughna on Instagram and join our comunity at bit.ly/Wildmomsclub!
