What I did Next is a show that explores life’s pivot points, both professional and personal. We look at life’s journeys through this lens and how sometimes certain circumstances can lead to life-altering changes. Do you take the left or right at the fork in the road? Do you choose the path less traveled and go against what is expected? These are the big questions at the heart of this show—questions that inform and shape our lives and the paths we take. Our guests will either be from the Middle East or have a connection to the region in some way. These are people who are multi-national, multi-lingual, are engaged, curious and passionate about knowledge and aim to leave a positive imprint on the world. They represent a variety of industries and careers but they all have one thing in common: they aren’t afraid to do it their way.

The What I Did Next podcast is truly a joy to listen to. Hosted by the engaging and talented Malak Fouad, this podcast features fascinating interviews with some of the great minds behind economic growth in Egypt. For anyone who wants to stay informed about what's happening in Egypt and learn about the thoughts, actions, and plans of influential individuals, this podcast is a must-listen.

One of the best aspects of this podcast is Malak Fouad's interviewing skills. She has a way of drawing out insightful and thought-provoking conversations from her interviewees. Her ability to ask the right questions at the right time keeps each episode engaging and entertaining. It is evident that she has done her research and knows how to steer the conversation in a way that brings out valuable insights from her guests.

The selection of interviewees on this podcast is also commendable. The show brings together an impressive lineup of movers and shakers in Egypt, providing listeners with unique perspectives on economic growth and development in the country. Whether it's entrepreneurs, policymakers, or thought leaders, each guest brings their own expertise to the table, offering listeners a well-rounded understanding of the economic landscape.

While there are many positives about this podcast, one potential downside is that it may not cater to everyone's interests. The focus on economic growth in Egypt may appeal more to individuals who have an interest or investment in the country. However, for those who want to gain a deeper understanding of Egypt's economic climate or are considering business opportunities there, this podcast provides invaluable insights.

In conclusion, The What I Did Next podcast is highly recommended for anyone interested in staying informed about Egypt's economic growth and development. With its engaging host, diverse range of interviewees, and thought-provoking conversations, it provides listeners with a dependable source of information and inspiration. Whether you're living in Egypt or have chosen to leave like myself, listening to this podcast will give you faith and hope in the future of the country. My final guest of this season is the one-and-only Youssra, who tells me about her life's journey from key decisions that led to her breakout success to her ground-breaking acting career that took on societal taboos. With over 80 movies, countless serials and theatre performances, her career has spanned seismic shifts in society, culture and politics, and she has witnessed, interpreted and contributed to all of them.   Youssra is also a role model to younger actors and people in the industry and is often championing new talent in her films and TV work. What struck me most about her was her professionalism, her simplicity and how down-to-earth she is—there is no entourage, assistants, or arriving late. My conversation with Youssra was recorded in September 2023 at our studio here in Cairo. If you're a member of the show, we'll have a bonus episode next week where Youssra shares her thoughts on the future of the Egyptian and regional film industries.  Learn more about your ad choices. Mohammed Hefzy is the award-winning film producer behind mega hits such as Clash, Sheikh Jackson, Microphone, Paranormal, and Perfect Strangers, to name but a few of the films that make up his incredible catalogue of work. Hefzy began his career as a screen writer but made the transition to producing quite quickly, realising he wanted more control of the film-making process as a whole. This led to the formation of his company, The Film Clinic, where he not only develops his own movies but produces new and emerging talent as well. Hefzy and I go way back to his pre-film industry days when we were both London-based. Meeting in a formal interview setting gave me a license to ask all my nerdy questions about the film industry that you can't get away with at a party! We'll also have a bonus episode next week for members where he dives deeper into the writing process, and how different it is for him to produce other people's work versus writing his own.
