The Isle of Skye is home to historic and natural (some say magical) wonders such as the Fairy Pools, Cuillin Mountain Ridge, and the Quiraing. Come on a mystical journey with me to the land that has inspired a multitude of songs, poems, and art. This solo adventure was a return to my soul home as I took in the Scottish Highlands. We'll talk about the flora, fauna, and faerie of it all. Through the maelstrom of gale force winds and torrential rain... this trip was a practice of gratitude and finding myself in this land's wild beauty. “Affric Highlands is an area of landscape between Loch Ness and the west coast of Scotland, looking over to the Isle of Skye. It's about 500,000 acres so it's like a small country.”Scotland's fabled highlands are not what we think they are. Once upon a time the great Caledonian forests stretched from coast to coast, famed for its wildness and size. It teemed with wildlife and large animals like wolves, bears and lynx. Now, so much of what was once there has gone.In this episode Ben Goldsmith is joined by Steve Micklewright from Trees for Life. They, and organisations like them, are working to reinstate wild forest in the Highlands and build a new economy around wildlife and nature tourism.Ben Goldsmith is a rewilding enthusiast and activist based in the UK. In this podcast he is joined by people behind some of the most exciting and ambitious rewilding projects around the world.Every year we hear stories about wildlife being destroyed. However, there are rays of hope as across the globe people are working to give nature a hand to recover and rejuvenate. This podcast is produced by The Podcast Coach.

We are embarking on the second half of our trip and cannot believe how much we have packed into the first half. While the days seem to go by quickly, overall it feels as if we have been gone for months. I was particularly excited about traveling to Isle of Skye. AND let me tell you that the views and drive to get to Isle of Skye (or as the locals just call it Skye) did not disappoint. This is the Scotland weather that we were expecting. The first time on the trip that I got cold. I had dressed in fall weather clothing all of the other days and finally decided to pull out an athletic dress to wear on the coldest/rainiest day that we has on the whole trip. Unfortunately, we did not get the chance to do most of the outdoor/hiking activities we had planned so Skye is definitely an area that we have to travel back to. After our hotel debacle we were able to stay in an incredibly beautiful castle-like bed and breakfast our only night in Skye. We then headed to Stirling where we had an equally beautiful place to stay while we spent our last two days before heading back to Edinburgh for a few days. We visited the William Wallace Monument and had tea on the Fingal. Catch us back here next week for Edinburgh part 2! As always thank you for listening TODAY. Walking is how we get from here to there. From a baby's first steps to a bride's walk down the aisle to the day our six best friends carry us away, walking symbolizes the way we progress through this life and on into the next. This week we will discuss the two paths we have to choose from; how Nik Wallenda conquers fear in a life with no safety net; my own mediocre efforts at exercise and whether I should be concerned; and the Irish pedestrian who threatens to ruin one of our favorite board games.

Also: meet the American actor who left Hollywood to become lord of Downton Shabby and how the Isle of Skye's natural wonders are both a blessing and a curse.
Welsh farmers are told they'll have to ensure 10% of their farmland is covered in woodland before they get their subsidies. Bruce McAlpine and his sister Rhona Paterson grew up near Edinburgh. They share their love of Scotland with Lea, and they cover cities, countryside, islands and all things Scottish. After describing Scotland geographically, we start by talking of the Scottish character, and go on to the delights of Edinburgh, Glasgow, Scottish foods, Scotch whiskey, the Highlands (is there really a Loch Ness monster?). Also the 800 or so Scottish islands, focusing on The Isle of Skye.We also discuss Scottish pleasures such as golf, bagpipes, and festivals. To end the episode, Rhona and Bruce share special memories of Scotland. And Lea shares two of her memories as well: one involving Queen Elizabeth and an unexpected meeting; and the other, dealing with the question of what a Scotsman wears under his kilt. (Bruce gives a definitive answer!)._____Bruce McAlpine and Rhona Paterson grew up on a sheep farm in the Scottish Borders, near Edinburgh. When I think of getting away from it all, I think of an island. Me here, problems way out there, it's a comforting way of looking at the world. But island living is not as simple as that. This week we will discuss God's plan to bridge the gap between the mainland and the islands; Robinson Crusoe conforming the island to meet his needs instead of the other way around; why “wasting away in Margaritaville” is not all it's cracked up to be; and the island getaway so near and dear to my wife and me. This sleep story is called "Isle of Skye's Underwater World". Enjoy this original, Scottish sleep story for grown ups / meditation and enter a world of relaxing calm courtesy of Scotland's natural, musical sounds of the wilderness, to help you into a deep sleep. Ohhhhhhh I think if I was to choose a favourite of my own so far this would be it! Aside from the story in my head being set in another of my favourite local spots (on Skye), I wanted to challenge myself with the audio! With a bit of editing trickery (I must disclose), I attempted to recreate the sounds of being underwater with the waves above... and this is the result. I must say, I'm rather pleased with it! I personally find this ambience so incredibly relaxing. I hope you enjoy it as much as I loved making it! Make yourself comfortable and relax to this soothing tale.
