In this conversation, Matthew Roberts shares his experiences as a former Navy cryptologist, detailing his involvement with the infamous gimbal UFO event. He discusses his decision to leave the Navy to speak freely about his experiences, the intense atmosphere aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt during the gimbal event, and the impact of witnessing the footage. Matthew also reflects on the paranoia he felt following the event and provides insights into the military's handling of UFO information and the flow of intelligence within the Navy. In this conversation, the speakers delve into the complexities of UFO encounters, the importance of witness accounts, and the personal impact of public disclosure on their identities. They explore the philosophical implications of government secrecy and the quest for knowledge, leading to a journey into hermetic philosophy and the search for deeper truths. In this segment of the conversation, Matthew Roberts shares his journey of searching for connection within the UFO community, his serendipitous encounter that led him to discover MUFON, and the series of coincidences that unfolded one fateful night. He describes a terrifying experience that challenged his understanding of reality and the analytical mindset he held. The discussion delves into the high strangeness of his gas station encounter, the struggle between rationality and the unexplained, and ultimately, his embrace of the unknown as he navigates deeper experiences with the phenomenon. Matthew also shares his profound experiences with UAPs and the psychological implications of these encounters. He reflects on his childhood, where strange occurrences shaped his understanding of reality, and discusses the tension between rationality and the high strangeness of his experiences. Matthew emphasizes the importance of recognizing patterns in these phenomena and how they relate to philosophical thought throughout history. He concludes by highlighting the need for a psychological revolution to accompany technological advancements, advocating for a deeper understanding of human consciousness and its connection to the universe. The population of older adults living with dementia is expected to swell to nearly 14 million by 2050 and is estimated to cost the US economy more than 500 billion each year. In the absence of a cure for Alzheimer's disease, the primary cause of dementia, there's interest in understanding modifiable risk factors. In theory, getting a handle on the modifiable risk factors for dementia, would enable public health efforts to reduce cognitive decline in dementia at the population level. We've come a long way in understanding the risk factors for Alzheimer's disease and other related dementias. However, there's still work to be done. In this episode, we'll speak with Dr. Josh Ehrlich, a researcher at the University of Michigan, who has examined vision impairment as a risk factor for dementia. It's 3am. You're tossing and turning, trying to fall back asleep. You look at the clock again, it's only been 10 minutes since the last time you checked, but you know you've gotta get up at 6, so you need to get to sleep NOW. What do you do? 25% of Americans experience insomnia every year, though it's often due to something temporary like being sick or stressing over money, your job, or your family. Chances are good you've had times in your life when you've had trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or falling back to sleep after you've woken up. If it happens three times a week or more for three months or longer, you've got chronic insomnia. Temporary or chronic, though, there are several steps you can take to help yourself reliably get a better night's sleep. Christina continues her conversation with Danny, who is speaking from within Waupun Correctional Institution*. He speaks more on the programs in prison, what works and doesn't work, the reality of what it's like to be released and how easy it is to reoffend, especially when there is a lack of support from the community and society. Danny opens up about his goals upon release in the near future and shares his ideas on how a system that is so flawed can change.*Waupun Correctional Institution is still experiencing a form of lockdown and there is still little information on when it will come to an end. "Winners never quit," we've all heard this well-intentioned advice, but have you ever dared to challenge it? Join me and my wonderful guests, Anna and Dana, as we tangle with this age-old wisdom and posit that perhaps quitting could be the unsung hero of success. We'll share personal stories, propose a fresh perspective on the power of quitting, and scrutinize the concept of 'blind perseverance,' which often leaves us committing too much to a cause that might not even align with our ambitions."Quit when it's right!" is the mantra we dissect. We navigate the complex decision-making process, discuss the challenges of quitting, and how to strike a balance between perseverance and knowing when to step away. We spotlight 'grit,' often hailed as the secret sauce for success, but we argue that it's not just about being tenacious; it's about discovering the right cause to be determined about. We'll also talk about how making the brave decision to quit can potentially open doors to new opportunities.Lastly, we will introduce you to a support framework to assist you in making these critical decisions. We also dive into the power of discipline and its role in achieving our aspirations. So, brew yourself a cup of coffee and join Anna, Dana, and myself in this riveting discussion. Remember, quitting doesn't mean you've lost; it could just be the first step toward a win. This conversation is inspired by the book Quit: The Power of Knowing When to Walk Away by Annie Duke.Other resources: New York Times Article, "People I (Mostly) Admire" PodcastNoble SISU Cold Plunge The SISU Cold Plunge creates health benefits through the hormetic stress response.
