In 2005 the Guinness Brewery at Park Royal, West London closed after seven decades of production. Tim Strangleman spent the last six months of the Brewery's life working with a photographer to record in words and picture the site before it closed. Subsequent research revealed an incredibly rich story of corporate cultural change and the transformation of work and the workplace. Drawing on material from his 2019 book, Voices of Guinness: An Oral History of the Park Royal Brewery, Strangleman, Professor of Sociology, in the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research, University of Kent, Canterbury, reflects on what that story tells us about work meaning, identity and organizational life in the second decade of the twenty-first century. Months ago, the boys at Domestic Pints ONLY issued a challenge: try to find a cheap 'craft' lager under $3.00. And after some searching, and finally a day where we could all chat together, we found them and delivered! This week, John, Tom, and Alex discuss their selections of surprisingly inexpensive beer outside the typical InBev/Miller Coors conglomerate. First up is Alex with Last Spike Brewery's THE DUKE lager. Following that is John with the classic cheap Quebec brew: TREMBLAY BLONDE. Last up is Tom, as we sample the plaid-branded REVELSTOKE LAGER from Mt. Begbie Brewery. Alex also talks briefly about his experience at the Guinness Brewery in Ireland and also buying Bud Light at an Irish pub (we sort of digress into talking regional difference with macro beers). Finally we wrap up with our scores. Not only were these beers cheap, but surprisingly good! See, craft brewing isn't JUST chocolate milk imperial dry hopped stouts! Next week, we will be back with another brewery spotlight from Ontario - stay tuned! von Trapp Brewing on making lagers in the land of hazy IPAs

In the land of hazy IPAs, von Trapp loves their lagers von Trapp brewing in Stowe, Vermont is smack in the middle of NE IPA country, but they're all about lagers. Founder Johannes von Trapp was inspired by the lagers her sampled while visiting the countryside of his ancestral home on Austria.  With a goal to brew an American version of these beers, von Trapp Brewing opened in the lower level of Trapp Family Lodge's DeliBakery.  Today, they're brewing 50,000 gallons of beer each year and distributing to several neighboring states. Brewmaster JP Williams was born in New Jersey and attended college in New Hampshire.  During his college days, he took a trip to Dublin, Ireland and visited the Guinness Brewery, sparking his interest in all things beer.  He later traded in some textbooks to buy homebrew gear and even changed his major to include more chemistry.  His brewing career started at Magic Hat where he worked his way up to Operations Manager however he realized big brewery life wasn't for him and joined von Trapp in 2012. This week we talk with JP about von Trapp's beer and other ventures, if he's ever been tempted to jump on the haze craze bandwagon, what Lager life is like with increasing demand for the styles, Vermont's new franchise reform laws, and what's coming up from the brewhouse. We also welcome Brian to the bigs as he takes on his new role as Co-Host and say hello to Jerry Payne, who joins Beer Guys Radio as our Audio Engineer.  Jerry brings 10+ years in radio and podcasting to the team - and he loves beer.  Perfect.  Plus, we'll reminisce about all the beers we enjoyed over the last week with stops at Orpheus for their multi-day anniversary celebration, the brand new Porter Pizza & Brewery, and a visit to Pontoon Brewing to sample their new Fluffy Otter Oatmeal Cream Stout with marshmallows and vanilla.  What a week.

The core four are back but for the last time? We discuss the future of the podcast throughout this podcast. We do have a guest named "Red" who joined us this week. We discuss Game of Thrones quickly but not everyone is up to date yet. So we start to discuss the OJ parole hearing and play some OJ clips. Jen then talks about her trip to Europe and she describes her tour of the Guinness Brewery. We then talk a little more about why we are ending the podcast and Ron, once again, brings up his "friend" Boss-Joe who is supposed to call in during the show (spoiler warning - he does not). We then ask our guest why they call her Red or her other nickname "The Rooster". Then friend-of-the-pod Dr. La Marca calls in to share his thoughts on the final podcast and we learn that Jeff (a non-friend of the pod) does not want us to podcast ever again. We then talk about the recent arrest of Shia Labeouf where he curses out a cop which leads to an update of our Death Pool. Jen then brings up the conspiracy surrounding Paul McCartney who many believe died in 1966 and the current one is just a hologram. This leads us to a discussion about the Mandela effect where we recall things a certain way but it turns out to be wrong. Switching gears, we review the recent #1 movie "Dunkirk" which leads us to a discussion about how certain movies could not be filmed today due to political correctness. Then another friend-of-the-pod Big Dollar Rob shows up to finish off the episode. We then learn that women have their own nail lady, discuss the recent transgender military ban, and why Ron hates marriage. We then talk about why a pedophile was arrested after he listed his top 10 reasons why he likes little girls, give our thoughts about the swimming "race" between Olympic gold-medal winner Michael Phelps and a shark, and play the age-old game called "What did Ron Eat Today". Then we end the show with some phone calls from Marco and Tucson Steve and further discuss the future of the podcast with our most ardent fans and get a final comprehensive traffic and weather update. With all that, our permission to podcast is permanently revoked?
