The hosts provide listeners with deep insights into the initial terms of the deal set to release female, child, and elderly hostages over six weeks while also discussing the ethical and political controversies surrounding the exchange. Kim is back from her 7th Alaska cruise! This one was on Princess Cruise visiting the Inside Passage that cruises from Seattle and visits Victoria, Ketchikan, Juneau, and Skagaway and sails through Glacier Bay. Note: Kim was hosted by Princess Cruises for her trip. This cruise visits Victoria very briefly at night so not a good choice if you really want to visit Victoria When evaluating cruises, you need to look closely at the time and length in port very carefully If you do want to pick a cruise that flies out of Vancouver, it may be cheaper to fly into Seattle and take either a train or bus to Vancouver The Discovery Princess ship carries up to 4300 guests so it is a large ship about the same size as the Norwegian Bliss (which we have talked about previously) It leaves from Pier 91 in Seattle, which is a bit north of the main Seattle waterfront and port area If you sail with Princess, do the onboard check in on the app at least a month or a few weeks in advance so that you can receive your Medallions in the mail The 16th floor on the Discovery Princess is the pool deck so you may need to walk outside to get the buffet and mid-ship elevators depending on where your room is. Kim's room also had an overhang covering the balcony The cabins on the Discovery Princess are a little small, with no additional seating beyond the bed (except on the balcony) The cabin had a very generous closet space but the bathroom was quite tight (look at the cabin layout in advance) Kim went in mid-June and had amazing weather but there are no guarantees The Princess Theater was quite large The premier package level is $80 per person, per day includes WiFi for 4 devices per person, 2 specialty dining meals, and the highest level of drink package The 360 dining experience is something you need to book when you arrive and it is a seven-course meal with courses from around the world and it includes videos from makers around the world The food on board was good but fairly standard cruise fare outside of specialty dining Princess has a lot of lounges with something going on somewhere at all time You can buy a day pass to the Sanctuary pool and area Princess has a kids club and activities but there weren't a lot of families on board but it is great for multi-generational family trips In Juneau, Kim went whale watching and it was spectacular wildlife sighting In Skagway, Kim did the White Pass Scenic Railway and "Sip to Summit" excursion In Ketchikan, Kim did a fishing excursion and after you catch fish they cook it for you on a private island Not all cruise ships in Alaska goes to Glacier Bay National Park so be sure to look for this! There seem to be better views from the left side of the ship Bigger ships have to dock further away and some need to tender to port so this is something else to consider when taking an Alaskan cruise Smaller ship (like Holland) are better for walking on and off the ship OTHER EPISODES YOU MAY ENJOY Holland America Caribbean cruise Barge and river cruising through France NYC to Bahamas cruise on Norwegian Norwegian Bliss cruise to Alaska Disney Cruise for First-timers

Hear about cruising the waters of Alaska and British Columbia as the Amateur Traveler talks to Susan Portnoy about her recent experience on a Hurtigruten expedition ship. Why should you do this cruise? Susan says, "I think it's not going to be for everybody. It is a long journey. It's 18 days. That is music to my heart, but may not be for everyone. But it's also more intrepid. It's not the kind of trip where you've got a lot of boardwalks and stores and places to hang out, which you might do and have in Juneau or Haines. We went to uninhabited islands. One was, for example, St. Matthews, which belongs to Alaska. Very few people know that. And more people have climbed Everest than been on St. Matthews." Adventure Cruise from Nome, Alaska to Vancouver: A Day-by-Day Journey Susan Portnoy recently embarked on an unforgettable Hurtigruten expedition cruise from the remote town of Nome, Alaska, to Vancouver, Canada. This 18-day journey was perfect for those seeking adventure, wildlife, and a deeper connection with nature and culture. Here's a day-by-day breakdown of this remarkable voyage: DAY 1: The Expedition Began The adventure started in Nome, Alaska. After flying into Anchorage and boarding a charter flight to Nome, everyone embarked on the MS Roald Amundsen. This expedition class ship can hold up to 500 passengers. ... https://amateurtraveler.com/alaska-cruise/ Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Unsurprisingly, it triggers anxiety. It's like breathing through a long straw. To counteract the feeling of not being able to breathe, I adjusted the pressure on my sleep apnea device and slept longer. I'm trying to get an appointment with the sleep doctor. It can just go on endlessly, a bit like the radio. Talking to my friends, many have some source of anxiety, from stress, responsibility, waking up in the middle of the night, no afternoon coffee, drinking beer and sleeping badly. I guess what I'm going through is a fairly common experience. I used Curb Free With Cory Lee! as a guide to book a wheelchair-accessible Alaska Cruise for 2025. This summer, we're going to Montana for family vacation. The new coffee machine is making better espresso. I haven't fully figured out how to steam milk and integrate that into my coffee making, so I end up with a cappuccino that is exactly the way I want it. I'm taking the kids to school in the mornings again. Uncontrolled anxious thought chains kept me from bed. I didn't get to sleep until after 1:00 a.m. Did It By Myself Today I did something I have been afraid of for months- since we got the wheelchair lift- I l loaded and unloaded my chair onto my van by myself. In November, when I got the chair lift, I assumed that I couldn't do it because there were straps and restraints to tie down the chair. A little complicated for me last year, but now, I've figured out some ways that I can use it on my own and there's no other way to figure that out but just doing it Thanks to my wife who supported me and who loaded my chair in and out of my van for years and now I figured out how I can do it on my own. I've needed a victory like this that I could point to and say, "I am improving." It takes a couple minutes to put my wheelchair on the car, but not very long at all. It makes me feel independent and that is very good. In related news, I drove and got my pants hemmed at John The Fashion Tailor in Oakland. I've been getting things altered there for 20 years. Hemming six inches off of my pants changed the proportion of my clothes. I recently took a spectacular, bucket-list cruise through Alaska with Pastor David Jeremiah, Coach Tony Dungy, James “JB” Brown (CBS Sports) and about 1,000 other guests from Turning Point Ministries. While I had high expectations going into the cruise, Alaska and this experience far exceeded anything I could imagine. In one of the most unique recordings to date, I recorded this podcast on my cruise ship balcony, with fog horns going off, whales jumping in the great northern Pacific Ocean up in Alaska, with my heart & soul on absolute fire. Here are some of the specifics of what I share in today's episode: NFL legendary football Coach Tony Dungy and his top leadership lessons and ways to success. James “JB” Brown's #1 job with CBS Sports and why he does everything to lift up Terry Bradshaw, Boomer Esiason, and Phil Simms. My top takeaways from Pastor Jeremiah's daily sermons over the week-long cruise. Why worrying about tomorrow will do you no good. The one mistake I made on the trip. Why dreams are so important and what you can do to activate “dreaming” if you are stuck, stalled, or not able to dream big enough anymore. Your bucket list and why it's important you take “mellow-yellow” time. All in all, there are over “10” takeaways and lessons in today's episode. And this almost 1-hour episode is as close as you will get to being on an Alaskan cruise without actually being on one. I filmed it while on board so that you can feel every bit of what I experienced. I believe today's message will motivate you, inspire you, help you think & dream even bigger…and ultimately I think it will touch your body, mind, and soul. And to me, that is what I LOVE. This is one tremendously inspiring podcast episode. I believe you will get tremendous value out of it on many levels. As always, please share it with your friends, colleagues, community, and certainly anyone who you believe can benefit as well. On this bonus episode of The Joy of Cruising Podcast, I am delighted to welcome Stephanie and her mom, Marineda. A few weeks ago I did a fun episode called The Godmother and referred to it as a modern-day fairy tale. Well, I just learned of another modern-day fairy tale—a sweet Mother's Day oriented tale that I would have found compelling in and of itself. What made it extra special for me was when I clicked on a Holland America Line blog post, I recognized in the accompanying photo of Stephanie and Marineda, that I knew Marineda from when we worked together in Florida where I lived for nine years. And, we were Facebook friends. When I read the post, some other considerations made me that much more interested in their story. First of all, Marineda and I both grew up in Brooklyn, and moved to Long Island, NY. The blog post discussed a Holland American Line Westerdam cruise to Alaska that Stephanie and her mom sailed. We recently did a podcast episode, Fire & Ice, which detailed our own cruise to Alaska in May so I couldn't wait to compare and contrast Alaska experiences with them. Stephanie and Marineda's Westerdam cruise was the result of a touching letter Stephanie sent to the NBC Today Show about her relationship with her mom in response to a Mother's Day Brunch challenge. Perhaps most amazingly, I learned from the blog post that Marineda was 88–which means we worked together when Marineda was 85! I'd have never guessed that!I am so appreciative they agreed to share such a beautiful story with the listeners of The Joy of Cruising Podcast. The Joy of Cruising Again is now available! On this episode of the Cruise Radio podcast, host Doug Parker and staff writer Richard Simms discuss various topics related to the cruise industry. They talk about the record-breaking number of passengers at PortMiami, the opening of the newly revitalized Nassau cruise port, Virgin Voyages' new ship, Carnival bringing another ship to Florida, and where to get your passport stamped in Nassau, Bahamas. We also get a review of a 10-night Carnival Miracle cruise to Alaska. Our guest shares his experiences on the cruise including embarkation, dining, entertainment, and ports of call. We offer tips for future cruisers, such as exploring the ship, booking excursions early, and purchasing trip insurance. Despite some minor hiccups, our guest and his family all had an enjoyable experience on their Carnival Miracle cruise to Alaska.
