Trailblazer Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, former President and CEO of Celebrity Cruises, joins us on Today's Episode of The CLS Experience for a candid conversation about her transformative journey in the global hospitality industry, from steering a major cruise line through the stormy waters of the COVID-19 pandemic to championing gender balance in leadership. Her mantra, "our comeback is going to be stronger than our setback," encapsulates her approach to leadership. Let's go deep.On today's episode of The CLS Experience, we have a very exclusive treat. She is Vice Chairman, External Affairs for the Royal Caribbean Group, and Prior to that, she served as President and CEO of Celebrity Cruises where she became the first woman to take the helm of a Royal Caribbean Group brand and one of the few women then, leading a multi-billion dollar brand, with a B. SHE is a recognized trailblazer in the global hospitality industry, AND she was the driving force behind transforming and re-defining today's relaxed luxury cruise experience, No big deal. In the years leading up to the global pandemic, she led Celebrity Cruises to a historic financial performance, AND even more impressive, she then led the industry back into service in, 2021, when Celebrity Edge was the first ship to sail from a U.S. port where she went on to return the brand's business performance to within historical ranges in the first full year of post-pandemic operation, BIG facts.  She's just a juggernaut in all facets of life and a terrific human being. Please welcome the trailblazing, wave making, innovative and creative, the beautiful and brilliant, abundant Lisa Lutoff-Perlo.11:08 - Family, Leadership, and Resilience16:55 - Leadership and Authenticity21:16 - Empowering Authenticity and Passion28:17 - Embracing Change and Taking Risks39:44 - Exploring Spirituality and Belief Systems48:21 - Gratitude and ExcitementLearn more about Lisa here: https://lisalutoffperlo.com/LLP Virtual Leadership Academy: https://lisalutoffperlo.com/llp-leadership-academyConnect with Lisa on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lisa-lutoff-perlo/To join our community click here.➤ To connect with Lisa Lutoff-Perlo follow Lisa on Instagram➤ Order a copy of my new book The Reinvention Formula today! ➤ Join our CLS texting community for free daily inspiration and business strategies to elevate your day, text (917) 634-3796To follow The CLS Experience and connect with Craig on Social Media:➤ INSTAGRAM➤ FACEBOOK➤ TIKTOK➤ YOUTUBE➤ WEBSITE➤ LINKEDIN➤ X

Send us a textHello, passionate cruisers! This is Paul and this week on The Joy of Cruising Podcast, I am delighted to welcome Bill, creator of Ritzy Travel Guide. As many listeners know, I am a serial viewer of YouTube cruise channels, watching them continuously while I work on my podcast and will even play them on mute when I listen to music. They are informative and sometimes introduce me to prospective podcast guests. That was the case with the Ritzy Travel Guide. Bill's seductive voice and accent first caught my attention, but more substantively Ritzy Travel Guide's great content made me a regular viewer.Bill and his wife first cruised in 1997 and have never looked back. They enjoy variety and spread their cruises amongst as many cruise lines as possible, rather than sticking to one or the other! Like me and Cheryl, they find them all so different and love aspects of each. They split their year roughly into three parts: 1. Europe; 2. North America, and 3. Asia. Bill notes, ‘You might say we are travel nomads! Love the culture and differences of each.'Ritzy Travel Guide's preference in ships is those under 3000 passengers. Bill emphatically points out they are not fans of mega-ships. ‘We prefer the more intimate, conversational style of small to medium ships. That being said we're adventurous, and also book the livelier ships, such as Virgin. We're also huge fans of the Celebrity Edge class of ships.' Two of my favorites—no wonder they caught my attention on YouTube.  Ritzy Travel Guide also does land-based vacations but have rarely featured them on their YouTube channel. That's about to change. Bill says, ‘Starting this year we will mix cruise and land content on our channel, to have a 'Grand Tour' feel to it.' Speaking of Grand Tour, around the time this episode airs they are embarking on an amazing journey: In February and March, they are doing a 6-week Asian trip, including jungle touring in Thailand, staying at a train-themed hotel in the deep jungle, feeding elephants breakfast from a tree-top canopy, staying in a bamboo eco resort on stilts over the water, and taking an overnight sleeper from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. Take me with you! That's just the beginning—we'll let Bill tell you about their other plans.Relying on ship wifi is slow, unsecure, sometimes not available & at foreign ports travelers don't want to pay their carriers' high fees. Send us a textHello passionate cruisers, this is Paul. This week on The Joy Of Cruising Podcast Cheryl and I will share our reflections on our recent cruise—a 9-day sailing to the Southern Caribbean—A, B, C Islands aboard Celebrity Cruises newest ship, the latest in its Edge-class, the Ascent. A, B, C  is an acronym for Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao. The full itinerary of Ascent was embarkation at FLL followed by a sea day; a stop at Cayman/Georgetown, a seaday, then Aruba, Curacao, and Bonaire, then 2 sea days on the way back to Ft. Lauderdale. We've gone on longer cruises and enjoyed the extra time but after a while Cheryl is like “I need land” like she said on our 16-day transatlantic with 8 straight sea days. The cruise was 9-days, a sweet spot for us; 7-days is just not quite long enough. This cruise was special in several ways. It was a celebration of our anniversary which was 3-weeks prior in October. A cruise on Celebrity Ascent was a direct challenge to our as yet favorite cruise which was on Ascent's sister ship in Celebrity's Edge Class, the Celebrity Beyond two years prior. I often proudly mention in the same sentence that the CEO at Celebrity who launched the Edge Class—Lisa Lutoff Perlo, was a guest on the The Joy Of Cruising Podcast and she too selected Beyond as her personal favorite. Lisa launched the Celebrity Edge, Apex, and the Beyond before her move back to Royal Caribbean. Most significantly was the sentimental aspect of this trip. Aruba is where we celebrated our honeymoon, and this was our first return back in 32 years. Support the showSupport thejoyofcruisingpodcast https://www.buzzsprout.com/2113608/supporters/newSupport Me https://www.buymeacoffee.com/drpaulthContact Me https://www.thejoyofcruising.net/contact-me.htmlBook Cruises https://bit.ly/TheJoyOfCruisingPodcast-BookACruiseUS Orders (coupon code joyofcruisingpodcast)The Joy of Cruising https://bit.ly/TheJoyOfCruisingCruising Interrupted https://bit.ly/CruisingInterruptedThe Joy of Cruising Again https://bit.ly/TheJoyOfCruisingAgainIntl Orders via Amazon

Send us a Text Message. This week on The Joy of Cruising Podcast, I am delighted to welcome Venus Anderson who attended Melanin at Sea's recent group cruise to Alaska on Celebrity Edge and will share her reflections with the listeners. Venus and I are among the 105 thousand members of Melanin at Sea, one of the most influential of the thousands of private cruising discussion groups on Facebook. It is comprised predominately but not exclusively of cruisers or aspiring cruisers of color. Melanin at Sea was created by friends of the show and global cruise personalities, A Rich and Jazzy Life (Richard and Jasmine Ranmarine) who I featured in my newest book, The Joy of Cruising Again amzn.to/3lAfyON and who have been guests on the podcast.  Venus is the moderator of Melanin at Sea. As I read the posts and enjoyed the images coming from Alaska, I recalled my trip there last year, where I fell in love with Alaska, and wished I was on the group cruise (which by the way, Melanin at Sea group cruises are known to be legend!) Plus, it was on Celebrity's Edge-class; many of the listeners know my favorite ship is another Edge-class sister, Celebrity Beyond. So as soon as Celebrity Edge disembarked, I reached out to Venus and asked her to come back on The Joy of Cruising Podcast and share her reflections with the listeners. I was confident Venus would be a good representative on behalf of Melanin at Sea. Besides serving as moderator, Venus has been a fun guest on The Joy of Cruising Podcast before. From-time-to-time I invite guests I encounter on social media who post a great story and photos about some bucket list cruise that I think the listeners would enjoy hearing about. Last year I invited Venus on to talk about her bucket list holiday cruise with her daughter to Australia—a destination on my bucket list as well as some of the most experienced cruisers I have hosted. Celebrity Cruises Panama Canal & Ship Classes REVIEW. Larry Jackson of Cruise Holidays of Viera joins Ken live from the Celebrity Beyond for a mini review of Larry's favorite Celebrity Cruise itinerary, an 11 night Southern Caribbean and Partial Panama Canal cruise. Larry details what make this cruise so popular from experiencing a partial transit of the Panama Canal, dipping ones toes in both the Atlantic and Pacific on one cruise and then finding time for a visit to South America and the ABC Islands. All in one cruise. From there Ken and Larry discuss the differences in the two most popular classes of ships Celebrity Cruises have in their fleet. The Solstice Class including Celebrity Solstice, Eclipse, Equinox, Silhouette, and Reflection. And the Edge Class including; Celebrity Edge, Apex, Beyond, Ascent and coming in 2025 the Xcel. Larry highlights some of the new features on the Beyond and the Edge Class with a focus on the dining options and how they differ plus a few of his favorite places on board such as the pool and resort deck. Of particular interest are the classes of suites on board and the Retreat which is Celebrity's ships with in ships concept. Ken asks Larry if it is fair to compare the Retreat to the luxury cruise lines such as Silversea and Regent. Larry gives a brief history lesson on the evolution of suites and suite classes on Celebrity, while also offering his thoughts and those of his guests about Celebrity's balcony innovation the "Infinite Veranda" Larry and Ken wrap up with a look at the available internet on board todays ships and reminisce about the bad old days of cruise ship internet connectivity . And finally Larry concludes with his praise of Celebrity Cruises being the best value at sea based on his personal experience and the feedback from the thousands of guests he has put on board Celebrity Cruises of the years .

Jeannette talks to the fabulous Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, Vice Chairman, External Affairs for the Royal Caribbean Group and author of “Making Waves: A Woman's Rise to the Top Using Smarts, Heart and Courage". Lisa joins the show to talk about her fascinating business background, how she conquered the world of business, and what's coming in her future. Lisa talks about what makes a great leader, why women deserve a more prominent role in all aspects of life, and how the power of courage can transform your path through life. She also discusses her book, and talks about how it is built upon the transferrable lessons from her own life in business. KEY TAKEAWAYS People are drawn to leadership and magnetic power of those who steer the ships. True leaders are those we can lean on during the stormier times. Learning is not just about seeing the things we aspire to. It's about recognising what doesn't work, and calculating that into our life plan, too. Everyone has an ego, but the problems arise when we are led solely by it, instead of using it as an accelerating force. Many who enter business near the top don't arrive with the smarts and the skills that you can only gain by climbing the ladder progressively. BEST MOMENTS "I learned that a great leader is a great leader. And that's what people are looking for. Captains aren't looking for someone who was a captain to be their leader at the end of the day." "I always find it serendipitous that I ended up in the cruise business, hospitality on the ocean. And it's like this. My life came full circle and it was through no plan." "I was a woman who did it. And, you know, the subtitle of Making Waves is a woman's rise to the top using smart and courage." "I've had to be very conscious of that. You know, when I was my first promotion was going from a salesperson to a regional sales manager, which meant that I went from an individual contributor."   This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. It's never too late to be BRAVE and BOLD and unlock your inner BRILLIANCE. Prior to that, she served as President and CEO of Celebrity Cruises from 2014 to 2023, the first woman to take the helm of a Royal Caribbean Group brand and one of the few women then leading a multi-billion dollar brand. Lutoff-Perlo is a recognized trailblazer in the global hospitality industry. She was the driving force behind transforming and re-defining today's relaxed luxury cruise experience with a bold, innovative approach to ship design and service for both the industry and the Celebrity Cruises brand. Launching Celebrity's Edge Series in 2018, the ships were immediately hailed as game-changing for the industry and recognized on TIME Magazine's annual “World's Greatest Places” list. She also led the Celebrity brand through a digital transformation, tapping into new market opportunities, customer trends, a robust digital marketing focus and increasing guest loyalty. In the years leading up to the global pandemic, Lutoff-Perlo led Celebrity Cruises to historic financial performance. She then led the industry back into service on June 26, 2021, when Celebrity Edge was the first ship to sail from a U.S. port and went on to return the brand's business performance to historical ranges in the first full year post-pandemic. In 2023, Celebrity Cruises' ships were the first in the world to earn the coveted star rating from Forbes Travel Guide, further solidifying the brand's relaxed luxury resorts at sea brand positioning. A purpose-driven leader, Lutoff-Perlo also catalyzed cultural progress in the 200-year-old cruise industry by appointing the first American female Captain and the first West-African woman to work on the bridge of a cruise ship; making history with the first all-female bridge and leadership sailing in 2020; and, ultimately, increasing Celebrity's percentage of women on the bridge to 32%, far exceeding the maritime industry average of 2%. She has been recognized with numerous awards for business transformation, outstanding leadership, diversity and inclusion, and her numerous philanthropic efforts., and is a member of the Board of Directors of Fortune 500 company AutoNation (NYSE: AN) actively lending her expertise to numerous nonprofit boards. Lutoff-Perlo shares her powerful career stories and lessons learned in her leadership book, “Making Waves: A Woman's Rise to the Top Using Smarts, Heart and Courage,” available in February 2024. Visiting cruise ships are causing commuter chaos in Auckland's Waitemata Harbour. On Tuesday evening the Celebrity Edge broke its moorings in high winds at Princes Wharf. That meant 10 commuter ferries had to be cancelled and others were left bobbing in the harbour unable to dock until the cruise ship was secured. It is not the first disruption caused by a passenger ship; earlier this week several ferry services were cancelled because of a medical incident. On Wednesday evening more commuter ferries are cancelled and some delayed due to the cruise ship departing - a regular occurrence during the season. Port of Auckland CEO, Roger Gray explained what happened with the mooring.

The recognition is made more wonderful as Celebrity's ships join an elite and exclusive group of fewer than 20 land-based properties with over 1,000 rooms in the world to ever receive the coveted recognition.FTG is the global authority on luxury hospitality and the only global rating system for luxury hotels, restaurants, spas and now, the new ocean cruise category. The remainder of the line's 15-ship fleet will be evaluated in the year ahead, except for the line's smaller Galapagos ships. The newly Star-rated Celebrity ships represent three of the line's class of ships, including:Edge Series – As avant-garde as the name implies, these ships have been hailed as architectural masterpieces, introducing a plethora of industry firsts on a cruise ship, such as an outward-facing resort deck, the world's first cantilevered floating bar known as the The Magic Carpet®, luxurious new state rooms like the two-story Edge Villas with private plunge pools, and more. Celebrity ApexSM (2021) and Celebrity Edge® (2018) remain among the most highly awarded ships at sea, even being named to TIME Magazine's “World's Greatest Places.”Millennium Series – Offering a more intimate cruising experience with just over 1,000 staterooms each, both Celebrity Millennium®and Celebrity Summit®were part of the line's biggest fleet-wide modernisation in 2019, with more than $500 million in luxurious upgrades made.Mega-Yacht – Celebrity Flora® is an exclusive 100-passenger luxury mega-yacht designed specifically and purposefully for expeditions in the Galapagos and built to merge with its surroundings. Members have access to a special web portal, where enjoy members-only specials, promotions and other offers.Seven Ports and Places Where Smaller is Better (and allowed).Dubrovnik has capped the number of cruise ships that can visit each day and has limited the maximum number of passengers to 8,000. Venice has restricted the size of vessels that can visit the port and go through the Grand Canal, the main waterway of Venice. Windstar Cruises is able to visit the port due to its small size and sail through the scenic Grand Canal channel.Bar Harbor has limited the number of guests monthly and daily that can visit the port (note that legal action is pending). Key West has been looking to limit cruise ship visits and which port berths are available for use. French Polynesia has banned cruise ships with capacity greater than 3,500 passengers from making port calls in the country. Ships over 2,500 passengers are allowed to dock in Tahiti and Moorea; however, tiny Bora Bora allows just 1,200 cruise passengers per day. Windstar has been sailing in Tahiti for more than 35 years, and no other cruise line knows the islands, or rules, like them. Both Windstar's 148 motorized sailing yacht (which was tailor-made for cruising Tahiti's islands) and 312-guest all-suite yacht sail there, accessing Bora Bora, Raiatea, Moorea, and others. Santorini, Greece is limited to 8,000 passengers ashore per day. Some ships have been forced to change itineraries as a result.Juneau is moving to only allowing five ships to dock a day, with no ship able to anchor over a certain passenger count and no “hot berthing,” i.e., when two ships occupy the same berth at different times during the day.  And more...Join the show:If you have a cruise tip, burning question or want to record a cruise review get in touch with us via the website https://thebigcruisepodcast.com/join-the-show/ Guests: Chris Frame: https://bit.ly/3a4aBCg   Chris's Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/c/ChrisFrameOfficialListen & Subscribe: Amazon Podcasts: https://amzn.to/3w40cDcApple Podcasts: https://apple.co/2XvD7tF Audible: https://adbl.co/3nDvuNgCastbox: https://bit.ly/2xkGBEI Google Podcasts: https://bit.ly/2RuY04u I heart Radio:  https://ihr.fm/3mVIEUASpotify: https://spoti.fi/3caCwl8 Stitcher: https://bit.ly/2JWE8Tz Pocket casts: https://bit.ly/2JY4J2M Tune in: https://bit.ly/2V0Jrrs Podcast Addict: https://bit.ly/2BF6LnE Hosted on Acast. We are back from our cruise on the Celebrity Edge. Now that we have taken another cruise, we have even more questions from you all about the cruise industry, but specifically about Celebrity Cruises. This time, I (Shannon) took my mom along with me, so this episode was recorded from our stateroom, on our last evening on the ship. We will follow-up with a thorough blog post in greater detail but in the meantime, we are addressing your immediate questions now. In this episode we chat about: How Celebrity Cruises handles pre-boarding and embarkation. Covid-safety on board and at ports. The Retreat - super lush VIP access on board. Restaurants and the culinary game on board Celebrity Edge. Exercise and how we made all attempts (not really) to keep those extra calories off while we were cruising. The changes to gratuity/tips to Celebrity Cruises post-covid. The Spa, Aquaclass status to the Thermal Spa Entertainment on board Celebrity Edge. Ship aesthetic, Nate Berkus being the design ambassador. Kelly Hoppen, CBE designer of The Retreat. Our stateroom in the Aquaclass. The ahhh-mazing service aboard Celebrity Edge Our fave: the shore excursions! Episode resources: You can find information about Celebrity Cruises here. We encourage you to check with the latest procedures for boarding as they may have changed since this podcast recording. Show notes for this episode can be found here. We will be posting an in-depth blog post here on our experience. Sign-up to be “in the know” with our upcoming podcast guest list, and be able to submit questions before we record each episode. You can always find us on our blog or Instagram and videos from our trip can be found on YouTube. Please let us know your thoughts on this episode, or others. Your feedback means the world to us, so please send us a message and tell us what you think. Thank you! Thank you so much for listening. We are so honored that you're here. If you loved this podcast, we would be so grateful if you could leave us a 5-star review. That way we can be inspired, inspire others, and continue to create more content! On this episode we’re talking about the cruise experience. Now with two months’ of sailings under their belts, cruise lines are refining procedures and policies. With vaccine mandates, testing and, sometimes, mask requirements, what is today’s cruise experience really like? To discuss, we’ve invited Vicki Freed, the senior vice president of sales, marketing and trade support and services for Royal Caribbean International; Penny Rushing, the owner of Four Points Travel, an Avoya agency; and Gene Sloan, the cruise editor at The Points Guy. These experts talked with news editor Johanna Jainchill and host Rebecca Tobin about today’s cruising and what cruise lines and travel advisors have learned over the past couple of months. This episode was recorded on Thursday, Sept. 2, and has been edited for length and clarity. Want more on cruise? Stay tuned for the second part of this discussion, where Freed, Rushing and Sloan dive deep into the onboard cruise experience – and what’s in it for solo travelers – and what a “bubble tour” is and why the experience in port is so different in the Covid era. The first major cruise ship to leave from a U.S. port since March 2020 was the Celebrity Edge, which cast off last week. Our news editor Johanna Jainchill was onboard, and she sat down with the ship’s captain, Kate McCue, for an emotional discussion about the relaunch. Some of their topics: The feelings of being at the helm of the first Celebrity Cruises ship to launch, being on the ship for nearly a year, keeping the crew’s spirits up – as well as McCue’s social media game and her famous cat, Bug. We also speak with Jainchill about that first cruise an what it was like to be back on the seas and that feeling of “normal” cruising.
