AYL178 - Author Your Life Goes On Sabbatical by David McCrae
‘Introduction to Psychotherapy: The Life Authoring Method’ is a presentation of the author’s upcoming work as a psychotherapist, his ‘Rogerian’ orientation with the person-centered approach in counseling, and finally his method: Author Your Life or Life Authoring, which is based on the creative literary and artistic work of the client.Life Authoring basically consists of three overall activities: the creative writing of one’s life story (in 5 minutes), the writing of symbol and action stories, the reprogramming of the client’s inner scripts through affermative prayer, and finally spontaneous artwork for the client to express his or her Inner Child.

‘Author Your Life’ as part of the Series ‘The Journey to Self’ presents a self-coaching technique that uses a combination of story writing, affirmative declarations and voice dialogue for healing the scars of trauma and abuse, raising emotional self-awareness, building vision and boosting creativity and spontaneity through inner child recovery, healing and art work.Authoring Your Life does not make you to become a fiction author. No writing skill is needed, and writing style is not to be epic but flow-style, practicing a deliberate let-go attitude. Our consciousness is self-healing, self-cleaning and self-renewing; when authoring your life, you effect a total transformation of the personality into something more coherent and more in alignment with your soul values. The result of such an integrative work will produce positive results on all planes, the professional, the financial, the intimate and the spiritual planes all at once.
I was stunned when the reports started coming through last weekend about the death of Kobe Bryant. My first thought, as it sadly often is in this day and age, is that it was "fake news". However, as the reports confirmed the death of Kobe, his daughter, and seven other passengers, I reflected on his tragically shorted life. I have actually used Kobe as an example a couple of times in my seminars and in my books to illustrate key points. As I thought how I could pay tribute to Kobe, I decided not to come from the basketball angle or family angle that most tributes were focused on. Instead, I wanted to pay tribute to how Kobe's example could help us, even after he is gone, and even if you have nothing to do with basketball. In this week's episode of the Author Your Life podcast, I share what these three lessons are.

We've reached the final day of the festival. Today you are going to learn how to wrap up everything that we have talked about so far. How do you integrate your learning and prosper from this point forward? In this episode, you will learn the three principles of continuous growth, and I will outline how I can help you hit these three principles on a consistent basis so that you can become the hero of your story, accomplish your heroic quest and serve the other characters in your story.
Day 6 of the Author Your Life Festival! Today you are going to learn how to Question Everything! At school so much time was spent on teaching us literacy skills, the use of language. However no time was spent on relationship skills, how we use language with others. Because of this, for many of us our relationship skills are lacking, or at least below what they are capable of being. In this episode you are going to learn my two Golden Rules for relationships that are going to help you obtain instant rapport, build killer chemistry and foster deep connections with the people you care about.
Day 5 of the Author Your Life Festival! Today you are going to learn how to Stand on the Shoulders of Giants We don't have to struggle through life in our own way. There are paths that have already been laid out for us. We can find role models of excellence who will help us get where we need to go. In this episode you are going to learn how to become like your heros. I'm going to share with you three steps that are going to help you develop your heroic qualities, build your skills and surpass the efforts of those who came before you.
Day 4 of the Author Your Life Festival! Today you are going to learn how to get the Skills to Pay the Bills. In order to get to our aspirations in life, there are key skills that we need to develop along the way. We need to get far better than what we are right now in order to succeed. In this episode, you are going to learn the process of skill mastery. I'm going to share with you three principles that are going to help you become more confident, advance faster and make you stand out from the crowd.
Day 3 of the Author Your Life Festival! Today you are going to learn how to Consult Your Inner Wiki. Motivation is the fuel that drives us towards anything in life. No motivation. No momentum. Sadly motivation is very poorly understood in general society. We describe motivation using the wrong terms, and try to generate it in the wrong ways. In today's episode I'll be sharing with you three strategies that are going to help you align with your purpose, and generate long-term, consistent motivation.
Day 2 of the Author Your Life Festival! Today you are going to learn how to Develop the Mozart Mind. Our brain is engineered for learning, but most of us are not using it as effectively as we could. When you know how your brain works, you can use it to fuel your growth and progress. In today's episode I'll be sharing with you three strategies that are going to help you accelerate your learning, surpass challenges and overcome failure.
Day 1 of the Author Your Life Festival! Today you are going to learn how to sleep your way to success. Sleep is a fundamental behaviour. We spent a third of our lives doing it, yet we often ignore it or even sacrifice it. If you want improved energy, productivity and motivation, you don't need the latest "hack" or strategy. Often you just need to get a better night's sleep. In this episode I'll be sharing with you three strategies that are going to supercharge your sleep, and as a result supercharge your energy, productivity and motivation.
On the 20th and 21st of July, 2019, the inaugural Author Your Life Summit took place. Since I began my journey as a speaker, I have been aiming to do multi-day, immersive events. The Summit was the first of these events. This event was a 12 month project for me, pushing myself beyond anything I had done before. As a result, it was a huge learning process for me, and in this episode, I share with you my four key lessons. These lessons that you will learn and can transfer to your life are: 1: Power of a deadline 2: You aren't ready, but you will be 3: Testing finds the flaws 4: Know your why, and you'll make it happen

We live, play and work at an ever-increasing pace, amidst a lot of noise – yelling, fear, anxiety, texting, streaming, email. In this environment, we long for hope and humanity, but often give more reactive responses than ever. Today, we identify how we can influence our daily moments to make them more inspired. Rand Stagen, Managing Director of Stagen Leadership Academy, joins us to share how to create a little space between key stimuli – think of your triggers: a colleague’s sarcasm, your spouse leaving dishes in the sink, morning traffic – and our responses to them. Whether you're leading a large corporation, stuck in carpool traffic, or both: Today's conversation will give you tips and motivation to live a more inspired life – one intentional interaction at a time. SHOW NOTES: Stagen Leadership Academy strives to link the soft side of leadership with the pragmatic side. Leaders get the organizations and the families they deserve: Leadership is oriented around a sense of identity + taking responsibility. Power of transformation: organizations don't change, people do. If you want to transform a business, work on the leaders transforming themselves. How to start taking responsibility: Be grateful for the people in our lives who allow us to reflect on the gaps or holes in yourself, instead of being annoyed. Notice when you're triggered, or emotionally grabbed, and take unconditional responsibility. Recognize the gifts around us as opposed to pointing fingers. Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom. Be the author of your own life story. Most effective leaders have strong emotional awareness, both intrapersonal (self-awareness + self-management) and interpersonal (social awareness) Read Daniel Goleman's Harvard Business Review article What Makes a Leader here. Moods are contagious: The way you walk into a room will influence the room. Take note of the feedback loop of the experiences in your life. With awareness there is choice. Without awareness, there are only habits. If you liked learning about how your mood can influence others, you'll love Live Inspired Podcast guest Jon Gordon, author of The Energy Bus, from ep. 13. Listen to Live Inspired Podcast ep. 49 with Dina Dwyer-Owens, co-chairwoman of The Dwyer Group, on someone who is leaning into conscious leadership. RAND STAGEN'S LIVE INSPIRED 7 1. What is the best book you’ve ever read? Scott Peck's The Road Less Traveled. 2. What is a characteristic or trait that you possessed as a child that you wish you still exhibited today? Curiosity. 3. Your house is on fire, all living things and people are out. You have the opportunity to run in and grab one item. What would it be? A photo album that has family photos that don't exist digitally. 4. You are sitting on a bench overlooking a gorgeous beach. You have the opportunity to have a long conversation with anyone living or dead. Who would it be? Pope Francis to try to understand how he is managing such a complex + important time in his institution. I think his answer would be a combination of intellect and spirituality because he's operating in the context of a multigenerational time horizon. I'm in awe of how he's showing up and the courage he's exhibiting. 5. What is the best advice you’ve ever received? Scott Peck said life is difficult and it's a journey. The journey is about engaging with life + learning to relate to life. Life is a dance between being shaped and shaping life. 6. What advice would you give your 20-year-old self? All we have is right here, right now. Learn to be present, not worry about the future, and not be critical of the past. 7. It’s been said that all great people can have their lives summed up in one sentence. How do you want yours to read? He cared. *** Did you enjoy today's episode? As I tell you again and again: you are the author of your life, and you get to decide what hero you want to be in your story. Our stories are not written for us, they are written by us. This is a book for people at a crossroads in their life who are looking for a fresh start and to take their life in a new direction. As you look at your life are you asking: “is this it? Is this all I am capable of?” You’re stuck in an unhealthy lifestyle, an unfulfilling career or a failing relationship. I was at a point just like this in life, when I didn’t feel I being the person I was capable of being or living the life I was capable of living. In my journey to becoming a #1 bestselling author and inspirational speaker who speaks to audiences across the UK, I’ve learned what it takes to change your story. There are people who rewrite their stories, and there are people who repeat their stories. You'll learn about why these principles are important, and what can happen if you ignore or neglect even one of these principles.
