Ruth-Ellen grew up in south-east London and over the span of 20 years she has worked in business development for the likes of Faurecia, Expedia and Black & Decker. Her curiosity about people on the other side of the phone, resulted in £120m in new business sales in under 2 years. But then following a marriage breakdown where she found her and her two kids homeless she learnt one of the hardest lessons of all, hurt people hurt people. When she was homeless, the first, second and third time she realised a lot of her homelessness was about lemons. She was settling for lemons instead of demanding more from life. She was not meant for lemons and didn't accept them anymore. Ruth-Ellen truly believes we all make choices and there are consequences to these choices. However, when life hands you lemons you can either create really bad lemonade or throw those lemons back at life with a heck no...and say I ordered champagne darling! After certifying in hypnotherapy, NLP, EFT, Life Coaching and Reiki, Ruth-Ellen stepped into her true purpose of taking some of her lessons and empowering others to heal too. Her philosophy is to be celebrated not just tolerated! Today through her coaching programs, speaking and online courses, she now helps others to let go of the shame & guilt of experiences that don't serve them so that they can show up unapologetically visible in life and business and finally command the champagne they deserve #nomorelemons so that they can be celebrated not just tolerated. Imagine you improve by 1% each day. Day after day, you make 1% progress on where you were at the start of the day. How much would you have improved by the end of the year. 365% right? Wrong. You would actually have improved by 3778%. That is the power of compound improvement. What allows us to improve at this rate? The actions we take each and every day, also known as our habits. Your life is the sum of your habits, so what habits are you building for yourself? If you would like to build some better habits, you will learn four principles in this episode that will help you do so.

I was stunned when the reports started coming through last weekend about the death of Kobe Bryant. My first thought, as it sadly often is in this day and age, is that it was "fake news". However, as the reports confirmed the death of Kobe, his daughter, and seven other passengers, I reflected on his tragically shorted life. I have actually used Kobe as an example a couple of times in my seminars and in my books to illustrate key points. As I thought how I could pay tribute to Kobe, I decided not to come from the basketball angle or family angle that most tributes were focused on. Instead, I wanted to pay tribute to how Kobe's example could help us, even after he is gone, and even if you have nothing to do with basketball. In this week's episode of the Author Your Life podcast, I share what these three lessons are.
Madeleine Black chose to forgive the two men who gang raped her at thirteen years old and she shares her story for many reasons. She wants to end the shame, stigma and silence surrounding sexual violence enabling others to find their voice, whatever their story is. She wants people to know that it’s not what happens to us that is important but what we do with it. She wants to encourage others to live their life courageously too; but ultimately she wants to inspire hope and show people that we are all so much stronger than we think we are. The sharing of her story publicly on The Forgiveness Project’s website in September 2014 opened many doors for Madeleine in ways she never imagined, and the invitations started to pour in. Many women and men got in contact and explained how reading her story gave them strength, hope, and a different perspective of what’s possible in their lives. She has been invited to share her story of being gang raped as a teenager at conferences, book events, schools and on radio and television interviews. She recognises that she was a victim of a crime that left her silent for many years but has now found her voice and intends to use it. Not just for her, but for so many who can’t find theirs yet. In March 2018 she won the Amazing Strength award at the No. 1 Magazine Amazing Women Awards and in October of the same year was asked to be the Patron for Say Women, a Scottish organisation which offers safe accommodation and support to young women who are survivors of sexual abuse/rape and who are homeless. She is one of 50 Thrivers taking part in research by The Global Resilience Project to develop a resilience blueprint for others. She is a TEDx speaker, a story teller for The Forgiveness Project and has recently become involved with their programme RESTORE, sharing her story in prisons Her memoir, Unbroken, was published on April 4th 2017 and she continues to work as a psychotherapist. In this interview you will learn: 1: Forgiveness is not for other people, it’s for you 2: To see the events of your past as pictures 3: Speaking out is the job of all of us, not just some of us 4: The power of sharing your story Website: www.madelineblack.co.uk
The main problem people encounter when setting goals is they focus on the WHAT. "I want to lose weight" "I want to earn more money in my business" "I want to find love" The problem with focusing on the what, is you don't get a clear understanding of HOW to get there. You get to the end of the month and find out you haven't lost weight. You get to the end of the quarter and your business is still flatlining. You get to the end of the year and you don't have a promising relationship to show for any of the dates you went on. If you want more control over ultimately achieving those targets, then you need a different approach. You can find out what that is in this video.
Phyllida works in third sector campaigning surrounding face equality and mental health. Her interest in the field began after being involved in a life-changing car accident in Ghana. In the crash, she sustained prominent facial scarring, and so was faced with a decision whether to let her changed appearance affect her self-esteem, confidence and sense of self. She struggled for some time to come to terms with being a young woman who was now associated with an appearance that is predominantly seen in the media as scary, ugly or something to be pitied. Phyllida found solace in a community that she found via ‘Changing Faces’, a charity with which she volunteered and shared her story. Over time, her confidence grew as she found courage that wasn’t dictated by her appearance and she developed an interest in the way that people with disfigurements are portrayed, treated and represented in society. She took on a role at the charity in campaigning. During which time she worked on Home Office funded campaigns preventing disfigurement hate crime, partnerships with Facebook and Twitter, alongside awareness campaigns in partnership with the British Film Institute, the Telegraph, Avon and world renowned photographer, Rankin. Phyllida now works as a freelancer for Mind, Hub Dot and Face Equality International and has also become a model with Zebedee, an agency which focuses on diverse representation in the public domain. She has also launched a project which seeks to break down barriers and connect people through the power of food, called ‘What People Eat’. @WhatPeopleEat @PhyllidaSwift In this interview you will learn: 1: That you are more than just your looks 2: How to reduce judgement 3: To say yes to your opportunities, even if you end up taking on too much 4: Why to think about who you want to admire you when you’re gone.
