And this podcast had allowed me to do that. The podcast had come a long way in 3 years. Here's a summary of the number of downloads this podcast had....1st month - 8 downloads6 months -100 downloads1st year - 1000 downloads2nd year - 2000 downloads3rd year - 3754 downloadsFor a total of 5,754It's amazing. My 1st episode took over 3 days to produce. My learning curve started with how the mic worked. Then how to load into the software on the computer, editing it, uploading to the host site and my website. And then as time went on, the process sped up but I was still hand writing notes which could take an hour or 2 for each episode. Now I used a voice recorder for my notes and from the time I finish recording an episode it takes about 15 minutes to get it published. And my website has grown too. It's had over 2,000 visitors from countries like china, canada, france, ireland, philippines, UK, india, vietnam, hungary, japan, germany, mexico, netherlands, EU, italy, australia, thailand, ukraine and singapore.and another 11 countries that had 1 visitor from each.I wonder if anyone listening has listened to every episode ?-ordered cabinet door in Oct 2020 . Over the past few months we've been out hiking and snowshoeing. We've noticed during our travels. Some hiking trails are marked great. And Some terrible. And for someone who is new to an area it can be very frustrating trying to find the correct hiking trail. We really appreciate when people take care in marking a trail. I was talking to a volunteer who was marking a trail in Harriman State Park in NY. He said he likes to do what he calls a confirmation marker ... so after the trail takes a turn he likes to place a marker that confirms to the hiker which trail they are on. This week, Brian McRae, Division Chief of Land and Water Access for the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, discusses the hiking opportunities abundant in the half million acres of land owned by the WRC across the state. Be warned, though: these aren't your tamed and groomed state or national parks. They tend to be a little wilder — and a lot less crowded. In short, they require a little extra preparation before exploring, and Brian discusses the various resources available to help you do just that.Helpful links:N.C. In this episode, Gary and Gary discuss essential items and gear to bring with you on your wheeling outings. And lots of work going into our rigs you have to catch up on. Per usual there is listener feedback and a Jeep of the week. Tune in to hear a fresh new episode of the Northwest Jeepcast. Look for bonus content at patreon.com/nwjeepcast. The NWJEEPCAST Original 10 Essentials 0.5 Wheel with buddies We can not understate the importance of wheeling with other people. It makes all of these other essentials easier. You can share tools and other emergency supplies if necessary. If something catastrophic happens with your rig or self, you have far greater options for survival with other rigs with you to assist.  Navigation (map and compass) For wheelin, having a map and compass are good, especially if you run out of power.  Maps in this case can be Topo like hiker/backpacker/mountaineers, but given the distance our rigs travel that could be many maps.  For us it is more practical to have MUVM type maps or others similar to that; or guide books/trail reports.  For the most part we have to stay on offroad trails or forest roads and maps with these are best for us.  Given that we can usually carry sufficient power, using GPS and mapping software such as Gaia or Avenza which can also import Forest Service digital maps. And finally having radio equipment on board our rigs is very helpful in keeping a group of rigs navigating the same course of trails/roads.  The minimum is a CB for short range (a mile or two) communication, but better yet is Ham (requires certification) or hand held dual band radios which can communicate5-50 or more miles. Sun protection (sunglasses and sunscreen)  For wheelin, both sunglasses and sunscreen are needed.  Additionally having some form of shade for our rigs is important when we are wheelin open air; Softop up, Safari/bikini on, or spider shade.  These will protect us in our rigs from getting baked and burnt when we've had too much sun running topless. Insulation (extra clothing) For wheelin, we have much greater carry capacities than people on foot do.  Bringing along rain gear, wind gear, jackets and heavy blankets is not much of an inconvenience for us, nor will it slow us down much if any. Illumination (headlamp/flashlight) For wheelin, having a headlamp/flashlight is also essential.  I can count may times I've come off the trail at night due to breakdowns on the trail.  And then of course there is actual night wheelin.  In addition to having personal illumination, our rigs need sufficient lighting for the kind of night wheelin we intentionally or unintentionally do.  At a minimum we need sufficient forward and side lighting to see safe distances to find the trail and avoid obstacles.  The faster you intend to trail off road the greater the lighting requirements with desert racing at night requiring the most illumination, plus for dusty day racing having warning rear lights is essential as well. For rock crawlers having some rear lighting and under carriage rock lighting is also very useful. Vision X provides great off road illumination products for all conditions. First-aid supplies For wheelin, again having more carrying capacity we can afford to carry larger first aid kits than foot travelers can.  At a minimum we should carry a good wilderness first aid kit and manual like the mountaineers do as we too can be quite far from professional medical help.  See our show notes for wilderness first aid kits and manuals. Also having Ham radios with emergency repeaters programmed in  is very useful in emergency conditions for contacting medical personnel when cell service is not available. Fire (waterproof matches/lighter/candles) For wheelin, at a minimum we need to carry at least this much fire capability with us.  Depending on the season and fire restrictions we can bring wood with us as well and often do except mid summer; including winter snow wheelin.  Repair kit and tools For wheelin, this is where we have the biggest enhancement to the 10 essentials.  Not only do we have personal repair kits and tools including items such as Leatherman tools, but we minimally carry fluids, small tool kits and spare parts.  For longer multi day trips we carry larger tool kits and more spare parts.   See Episode 106 Tools for Trail Fixes (May 7, 2018), Episode 107 Trail Repair Box & Spare Parts (May 14, 2018) and Episode 108 Recovery Gear Deep Dive (May 21, 2018). Nutrition (extra food) For wheelin, again given our greater carrying capacity we can and should bring enough extra food for a day delay in the back country.  Hydration (extra water) For wheelin, again given our greater carrying capacity we can and should bring a minimum of 1 gallon of water per person per day.  If water is not available along the trail to be filtered and in hot conditions, more water per person is advised, like say 2 gallons extra per person for the trip. Emergency shelter For wheelin, this depends on what kind of rig we are in.  If it is totally open air then for sure bring a tarp that can be fastened to the rig to ride out storms and/or nights.  If the rig can be completely closed up, including softops/doors then the rig can serve as the primary shelter.  It is always a good idea to have an personally portable emergency shelter such as a tube tent with you in case you have to hike out for help. --Visit Northridge4x4.com for all your Jeep needs and listen for a special coupon code. Costo iscrizione: 30 euro per me. Pochi bagni, a occhio. Canale Telegram: https://t.me/da0a42Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/da0a42/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/da0a42/Sito: https://da0a42.home.blogOppure contattami!Telegram: https://t.me/lorenzomaggianiE-Mail: dazeroaquarantadue@gmail.com----------------------Music credits: Feeling of Sunlight by Danosongs - https://danosongs.com

10 Essentials for Wheeling

Northwest Jeepcast

This week Gary and Gary discuss an adaptation of the classic 10 Essentials , but for wheelin. They discuss some listener feedback new in this week, plus Carissa reads the new iTunes reviews. And of course there is a famous Jeep of the Week. Tune in to hear a fresh new episode of the Northwest Jeepcast. Look for bonus content at patreon.com/nwjeepcast.     1. 2. 3. Insulation (extra clothing)     For wheelin, we have much greater carry capacities than people on foot do.  Bringing along rain gear, wind gear, jackets and heavy blankets is not much of an inconvenience for us, nor will it slow us down much if any.   4. 5. 6. Fire (waterproof matches/lighter/candles)     For wheelin, at a minimum we need to carry at least this much fire capability with us.  Depending on the season and fire restrictions we can bring wood with us as well and often do except mid summer; including winter snow wheelin.    7. 8. Nutrition (extra food)   For wheelin, again given our greater carrying capacity we can and should bring enough extra food for a day delay in the back country.    9. 10. Links: ** Mountaineering First Aid || **SWBCrawler YouTube Channel ||   --Visit Northridge4x4.com for all your Jeep needs and listen for a special coupon code. Deploying to international emergencies – Chris Hall – EMP1

In this interview Senior Station Officer Chris Hall from the Country Fire Authority in Victoria, Australia, shares his experiences while on an international deployment. He talks about the value of exchanging ideas from both interstate and international emergency management agencies. Deployment to California In October 2017, personnel from the Country Fire Authority and Victoria’s Forest Fire Management Victoria were deployed to assist in fighting the fires in Northern California. According to Emergency Management Victoria, there is a healthy relationship with California, in particular, CalOES and CalFire. Incident Overview On 8 October 2017, multiple wildfires occurred across California. The wildfires burned more than 245,000 acres, 8,900 structures and were responsible for 43 deaths. 2017 has seen California endure some of the worst wildfires in United States History. An Incident overview is available at California Wildfire Statewide Recovery Resource. Pack Test require for international deployment The pack test for personnel deployed to California involved waking 4.83 kilometres on a level track carrying a weight of 20.4 kilograms within 45 minutes. In a Fire Note from 2011, the Bushfire CRC discusses The relevance of the Pack Hike Test for Australian bushfire firefighters. http://www.bushfirecrc.com/sites/default/files/managed/resource/pack_hike_test_fire_note.pdf Incident Action Plans The incident action planning process provides a tool to synchronise operations at the incident level. It ensures that incident operations support of incident objectives. QR Codes and Avenza QR code (abbreviated from Quick Response Code) is the trademark for a type of matrix barcode (or two-dimensional barcode) first designed for the automotive industry in Japan. A barcode is a machine-readable optical label that contains information about the item to which it is attached. Avenza uses QR codes to deliver maps electronically. Avenza Maps® is a mobile map app that allows you to download maps for offline use on iOS or Android smartphone or tablet as well as on Windows 10 devices. Managing an incident within an incident A highlight for Chris was the way that CalFire focused on the importance of having a plan of action should an incident within an incident eventuate. The use of the Medical Plan form was critical in facilitating this process. The National Wildfire Coordinating Group provides instructions for completing this form. Wildland Urban Interface (WIU) Placard Another key point of interest for Chris was Calfire's use of the "Wildland Urban Interface Placard"(WIU). The purpose of WUI placard is to: Triage a property to determine the risks associated with defending a particular property. Document property information found during structure assessment at a specific point in time. Allow the Company Officer or Chief Officer to communicate their assessment of conditions to other responding units. Please follow the link to CalFire’s Training document: http://calfireweb.fire.ca.gov/library/handbooks/7000/Exhibit_CalfireWuiPlacardTraining.pdf The form can also is available at http://www.firescope.org/ics-forms/ICS%20231.pdf   Demobilisation Demobilisation is the orderly, safe, and efficient return of an incident resource to its original location and status. The Demobilization Check-Out form (ICS 221) ensures that resources checking out of the incident have completed all appropriate incident business, and provides the Planning Section information on resources released from the incident. Demobilization is a planned process, and this form assists with that planning. Incident Demobilization Vehicle Safety Inspection form (ICS 212) requires the Vehicle Operator to complete items & submit to Resource Unit Leader before demobilisation can occur.
