As was made famous on an episode of The Simpsons many years ago, it was the best of times and the BLURST of times. In the case of the former, it's the smashing success of One Piece on Netflix - and yes, it IS good - but in the latter, it's a crash-and-burn of a supposed upstart company with too much ambition and not enough capital. Such is life, in a way. As for what it all means for this show, it doesn't mean a whole lot, but this IS the shortest show we've done in quite a while as not a lot has been going on lately. The end of summer means things are slowing down a bit, but we'll be back next time for a meatier show. The Game in Regina had everything. Milestones, Fails, Triumphs, Comebacks, Controversy. It had ups and downs, it had a Reklaws re-enactment play, it even had a power outage. In the End, the Argos emerged victorious. Andrew Harris became the first Canadian RB to eclipse 10,000 yards in the victory. The guys also look ahead to Sunday Night Football At BMO vs Ottawa, take a trip to Kazakhstan, go over the Corn rankings and celebrate the Pinball anniversary.
Dan is back again this week to join Johnny for a chat about Rd 12, the best and worst things about the way the game is being played currently and more! Note: Apologies I have a very bad cold today!

The Vancouver Canucks kicked off their road trip in style, getting handily beaten down in Florida. They look uninspired against the Hurricanes. Yet with a win against the Capitals, a Power Play that is clicking, and a Petey slump broken, has the team held back the tide and turned their fortunes back around... again?! The Jensens + Luminescence: Live at Yonder Festival, Mary Valley, 29 November 2019 Singer/guitarist Joe White first began making music after returning from a year spent living in Uganda with his parents on a Christian mission. He met bass player Bodi Lowrie and guitarist/vocalist Nathan Kendall while in high school on the Sunshine Coast and together they played in various projects as teenagers. Moving to Brisbane to study music at the Queensland University of Technology, White met guitarist Jordan Aston and drummer Phillip Fabros. Together, the five formed The Jensens in 2013. Their name was allegedly the only one of pages and pages of ideas that all five members could agree on, taken from a brand of speaker seen at a local music shop. Soon realising they were getting more out of music by playing it than studying it, they dropped out of uni to put more time into the band. The Jensens' early style could be characterised as boisterous indie rock, and they became a live mainstay around Brisbane and eventually Australia, playing festivals such as Valley Fiesta, The Blurst of Times, Deadlam, Jungle Love, The Big Pineapple Festival, Grampians Music Festival and Splendour in the Grass. The Jensens released the EPs "Everybody Talks" in 2016 and "Sexless" in 2017 before their music took on a larger scope with the albums "Hyacinth Haze" in 2019 and "Hammer & Blush" in 2021. The band's influences expanded and Joe White's lyrics began incorporating themes of conflict between his religious upbringing and his adult identity as a queer man. Luminescence are a Brisbane string group formed in 2018, covering classical, contemporary and experimental genres. They are made up of Toukie Wood and Liz Young on violins, and Emma Hales and Anitah Kumar on cellos, with Kumar also serving as the group's creative director. They have played several arts events, including GOMA Up Late, Anywhere Festival, Jungle Love and the Brisbane Street Art Festival. For the recording of The Jensens' second album, "Hammer & Blush", Luminescence were brought onboard to write and record string parts, and the sessions went so well they were invited to join The Jensens onstage for their appearance at Yonder Festival in 2019, where Luminescence were also performing a collaboration with artist/designer Chris Mangos. Accompanied by saxophonist Joel Aspinall, The Jensens and Luminescence delivered a unique performance for the Yonder crowd that Live Delay was very fortunate to capture for posterity. Recorded by Taine Josephson Mixed by Bodi Lowrie Show production, engineering and host: Scott Mercer Originally aired via Zed Digital, 7-8pm, Sunday 4 July, 2021

Do you smell something burning? It must be all these Election 2020 ~Hot Texts~! Here at re:verb we try to practice "addition, not subtraction" (to quote former President Obama), so we don't engage with "takes" anymore. As true postmodernist podcasters, we analyze texts. On this two-part show, Sophie, Ben, Calvin, and Alex analyze a collection of Hot Texts responding to the 2020 presidential election results. In part one, Calvin shares how presidential candidates have used the word "rhetoric" on Twitter recently, usages which we analyze as attempting to tacitly circumscribe US political ideology and stigmatize dissent. Then, Alex brings in former President Obama's critiques of the slogan "defund the police", as well as Obama's own preferred wording: "reform the police department so that everybody's being treated fairly, divert young people from getting into crime, and if there's a homeless guy, can we maybe send a mental health worker there instead of an armed unit that could end up resulting in a tragedy?" We discuss how, just like the candidates' ideological usages of "rhetoric", Obama's hamfisted rhetorical criticism here serves a disciplinary function, both erasing the history of past failed police "reform" efforts and denouncing abolitionist organizing. If you liked this re:joinder, tune into next episode, when we'll engage with more Hot Texts: on gender representation in the incoming Biden Administration vs. the outgoing Trump Administration, and purported Liberal Media "rigging" of the 2020 contest.
