Will God answer your prayer if you don't end with, "In Jesus' name, Amen?" Learn what praying in the name of Jesus really means. I taught this week on the call of Abraham and the development of God's missionary call through the nation of Israel as they were responsible to communicate the truth of God to the cultures around them. They were given that great commission. The great commission didn't start in Matthew 28. It started with Abraham in Genesis 12 —the first three verses there —Abraham, chosen by God to raise up a nation who would then be God's priests to the world so that they would be a blessing to all of the nations. They had a unique role in the great monotheistic religion. The Jews were supposed to reflect morality to the world. Israel was to witness to the name of God. When they talked about the name of God and witnessing to God's name, that does not mean that they were to let everybody know what they called God, "Yahweh." Their goal wasn't to cover the countryside with evangelists who just let everybody know what the right word for God was. It meant something different. ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆ https://linktr.ee/jacksonlibon --------------------------------------------------- #realtalk #face #instagram #SDF #SYNDICAT #DESPUTES #amour #take #couple #dance #dancers #vogue #voguedqnce #garden #tiktok #psychology #beyou #near #love #foryou #money #ForYouPizza #fyp #irobot #theend #pups #TikToker #couplegoals #famille #relation #doudou #youtube #twitter #tiktokers #love #reeĺs #shorts #instagood #follow #like #ouy #oyu #babyshark #lilnasx #girl #happybirthday #movie #nbayoungboy #deviance #autotrader #trading #khan #academy #carter #carguru #ancestry #accords #abc #news #bts #cbs #huru #bluebook #socialmedia #whatsapp #music #google #photography #memes #marketing #india #followforfollowback #likeforlikes #a #insta #fashion #k #trending #digitalmarketing #covid #o #snapchat #socialmediamarketing¹

FORQ is a harder-edge fusion band that Alex describes as ‘Snarky Puppy adjacent', due to its relationship to one of the founding members, Michael League. Keyboardist Henry Hey formed the band with League in the early 2010s and on this episode, Henry joins Alex along with FORQ guitarist Chris McQueen to talk about their innovative new album “Four (Remixt)”. Henry and Chris explain the creative process behind the album, which is a reimagining of their album “Four”. The band invited producers and musicians, including Alex, to remix the original tracks from the album and the results are wonderfully eclectic. The trio also talk about the differences of playing in FORQ and Snarky Puppy, and the musical curiosity that keeps their music fresh. You can hear Alex's remix “Duck People (No Fly List)” here.FORQ is an instrumental quartet with a dynamic sound and a penchant for sonic exploration. The group is composed of world-class improvisers, but it is their unusually memorable, genre-blending songs that leave the most lasting impression. Originally founded by keyboardist Henry Hey (David Bowie, Empire of the Sun, Jeff "Tain" Watts) and bassist Michael League (Grammy-winning leader of Snarky Puppy), Forq is now joined by guitarist Chris McQueen (Snarky Puppy, Bokanté), drummer Jason "JT" Thomas (Roy Hargrove's RH Factor, Marcus Miller, Snarky Puppy, Mark Lettieri Trio) and bassist Kevin Scott (Wayne Krantz, Jimmy Herring, Col. Bruce Hampton). They have toured across the US and Europe and performed at international festivals including the North Sea Jazz festival and GroundUP Festival in Miami Beach.Moods & Modes is presented by Osiris Media. This week Alex welcomes Michael League, one of the most accomplished musicians of the last two decades. Michael is best known as the founder, bandleader, and bassist for the New York-based instrumental group Snarky Puppy, and in this conversation you'll hear him tell Alex about the band's genesis and musical evolution. Michael tells Alex about Snarky Puppy's “no power chord” rule, how necessity led to him taking on the role of producer, and why it's crucial to never “quit failing.” Towards the end of the conversation, Michael tells Alex about improvements to his creative and personal life that he's enjoyed since moving to Spain, and shares equally important stories of success and failure. Michael League is a 4-time Grammy® Award-winning, 5-time nominated producer and musician based out of Catalonia, Spain. He is the creator and bandleader of instrumental music ensemble Snarky Puppy and world music group Bokanté, founder of the record label and music curation source GroundUP Music, and artistic director of the GroundUP Music Festival. Snarky Puppy has amassed three Grammy Awards over the last 8 years, an incredible feat for a jazz-based instrumental group in the modern musical climate. He has worked with a wide range of legendary artists including David Crosby, Erykah Badu, and Joe Walsh, and continues to push musical boundaries through the endless number of projects that he is a part of. You can hear Michael's new album, So Many Me, here and listen to the playlist from the episode on Spotify. Moods & Modes is presented by Osiris Media. Hosted and Produced by Alex Skolnick. Rob and Seth talk with four-time Grammy award-winning Michael League of Bokanté and Snarky Puppy about his GroundUP Music debut solo release, "So Many Me" in immediate advance of the release of its lead single, "Right Where I Fall." While the sound of this record differs greatly from Michael's other work, he explains how it also has a "bringing it all back home" feel for him personally. We learn how being in quarantine in Spain and viewing his native US from afar during 2020 greatly impacted the music and lyrics of this record, how he ended up touring (and then recording) in duo format with Bill Laurance, why he has developed an affinity for trios and duos, how Atlanta's #1 Snarky Super Fan Jake Funkmayor ended up contributing to SP's "17" release and a good bit more. Check out https://www.chrismcqueen.com/Thanks for listening! More about Chris.Chris McQueen has been playing, writing, and recording music since 1994. Along with Henry Hey he co-leads the explorative, groove-oriented instrumental band Forq, which has released four albums, and he has an acoustic guitar duo project with Matt Read that released its debut Western Theatre and is preparing a second album. He is an original and current member of 3-time Grammy winning band Snarky Puppy and Grammy-nominated world music group Bokanté as well as a frequent member of Banda Magda. He has performed with Lucy Woodward, Lizz Wright, Nikka Costa, Myron Butler & Levi, and Alejandro Escovedo. He has been featured in several rock musicals, including David Bowie’s Lazarus at New York Theater Workshop (featuring Michael C. Hall) and The Rocky Horror Show at The Dallas Theater Center. Chris grew up in Austin, TX and started playing guitar and recording songs on a 4-track Tascam around age 10. At 13 he joined RedHeaded Stepchild, a western swing kid band, and started gigging around Austin and learning how to solo from bandmate and guitar prodigy Will Knaak. This interest in improvisation led to a fascination with jazz; he joined and composed for the Westlake High School jazz band, and attended the University of North Texas to study with Fred Hamilton. In 2005-2006 he played in the One O’Clock Lab Band and wrote the piece “Foe Destroyer”, which was recorded for the band's Lab 2006 album.Chris remained in the Dallas area for four years after college, co-leading the rock band Oso Closo with singer/songwriter Adrian Hulet, and studying music with Bernard Wright and other members of the Dallas R&B/jazz/Gospel scene. Oso Closo performed on stage in The Who’s Tommy at the Dallas Theater Center and released two albums. After Oso Closo broke up, Chris and fellow band member Danny Garcia joined with singer/songwriter Cade Sadler to form the rock band Foe Destroyer. Foe Destroyer created an eponymous album, toured for several years, and performed on stage in Dallas and NYC in the musical Fly By Night. In recent years Chris has expanded beyond guitar playing to focus on music arranging, mobile app building, and video editing. He writes frequently for string quartet, big band, and horn/string sections. He co-arranged a piece on the Grammy-winning album Sylva by Snarky Puppy with the Metropole Orchestra. He has transcribed and engraved sheet music for Snarky Puppy, Bill Laurance, and his own groups, and he created arrangements and MainStage sounds for the musical Bunkerville. He has created two iPhone apps: Guitar Note Atlas, which helps guitar players visualize the guitar neck, and Set App for creating and sharing set lists. And he has edited and directed music videos for Forq and the Read/McQueen guitar duo.Chris lives in Austin, TX with his wife Erin and their bunny Georgia.
Michael League is learning how to sleep. A friend sent him a book called Why We Sleep and reading it “rang a lot of bells”. Until recently, he says, “the majority of my rationale for not sleeping was about guilt. Saying it out loud I realize how ridiculous it is.” Then again, he’s responsible for a lot of creative output, and he feels “a lot of pressure”. Michael is a composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist. He is the founder and leader of the band Snarky Puppy, and the international music ensemble Bokanté. He’s also an owner and founder of the record label GroundUP Music. Snarky Puppy has collaborated with a massive collection of international artists, helped to popularize a new wave of interest in both instrumental music, and in the visual aspect of record making, and represents a version of independent success and popularity in the new music business that most emerging artists covet. They have won 3 Grammys, and have toured constantly since their start as students at the University of North Texas in 2003. As Michael tells it, the band spent over a decade in uncomfortable circumstances and near obscurity playing often for audiences that were smaller than the the band itself. Tour after tour, record after record, Snarky Puppy started a ball rolling and kept rolling it, gaining momentum, relocating from Texas to New York, and building towards what from today’s vantage point looks like the inevitable global success that they have become, but what at the time being probably looked a lot like magical thinking. League says he thinks of himself primarily as a student. And talking to him it’s clear that he is constantly absorbing and synthesizing new information. He’s thirsty for more - to know more, to do more. He seems, to me, to be unrelenting, non stop, and full on. This conversation is a long time coming. Here he talks about Snarky Puppy, the advantages to the American musical perspective (“we are light on our feet”), why “to create something authentic isn’t really possible to me”, how playing wedding and steak house gigs in Texas taught him about “humility and strengthening the muscles of versatility”, the importance of making everything as fun as possible on the road, why he sees himself primarily as a student, getting good sleep, and moving to Spain. www.third-story.com www.patreon.com/thirdstorypodcast https://groundupmusic.net/

Between Snarky Puppy’s recent captivating pair of Atlanta shows, Rob and Seth chatted with its founder (who just won a Grammy for Culcha Vulcha) and co-founder of the GroundUP Music label, Michael League. This label’s truly unique, annual and independent GroundUP Music Festival in Miami Beach, Florida is an extension of the group’s ethos, so it is discussed first. We learn about how they chose to hold the fest in Miami Beach and about the challenges and rewards of running a festival at which shining a light on truly brilliant artists is more important than ticket sales. Michael also talks about how his producing work has become increasingly diverse and he tells stories specifically about working with Eliades Ochoa (Buena Vista Social Club) and David Crosby. Michael talks about how his playing has been influenced by Jaco Pastorius and Wayne Krantz, and he goes on to reveal why he has evidenced such loyalty to musicians and other peers who have been with him and the band for years. We also get a window into his process creating music to execute with Metropole Orkest, collaborating with Jules Buckley (he “plugged the music into the score”) all of which landed the band one of their Grammy’s for Sylva. Michael also touches on the writing process for Snarky Puppy, one which often involves a slew of extremely talented musicians, and he talks about how the band’s live shows remain cohesive despite their rotating line-ups and tendency to improvise. He also touches on his other band, Bokanté, and what the future holds for them. The ever-effusive League elaborates on many other topics and the episode ends with live versions of Snarky Puppy performing “Tarova” and GroundUP’s latest amazing artist Alina Engibaryan singing “We Are,” each from a recent Atlanta show.
