Influences such as Leo Parker, Nick Brignola and Bruce Johnstone have coalesced to ensure an open perception of the baritone sax and a “take-no-prisoners” approach to playing jazz music. Jason has studied with no less than the elite baritone saxophone specialists of the 20th century including Hamiett Bluiett, Ronnie Cuber, and Gary Smulyan. These Three masters of the instrument have contributed invaluably to Jason Marshall's ability, each one pouring their own personal wealth of knowledge into him. Other teachers include altoists Bruce Williams, Mark Gross, Steve Wilson, and Vincent Herring and tenor players Greg Tardy, Wayne Escoffrey, and Paul Carr. Mr. Lorenz Wheatley garners special distinction as being Jason's first saxophone teacher and earliest source of musical direction. Jason's formative musical experiences include stints with the Thad Wilson Jazz Orchestra and Bluesman Roy Gaines. He is currently playing and touring with Roy Hargrove's band RH Factor and the Roy Hargrove Big Band. Jason's band “Overt Negritude” has Released its debut, self-titled album. Jim Ridl. Elegy for Us All - размышление о своей стране, которая удаляется от прогресса и демократии. Пьеса Tushkin - это дань уважения своему деду барабанщика Самвела Саркисяна, который является представителем знаменитой в России ростовской джазовой школы. #188 | Rhogam for Rh Negative Mothers: How It Works and When It Doesn't

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 23, 2022 38:32

In today's episode we discuss the problem with Rh negative blood types and how it impacts future pregnancies. We've invited Courtney, mother of three, and her midwife, Jessica, to discuss her experience as an Rh negative mother who became isoimmunized against her baby, resulting in the need for multiple in-utero blood transfusions to save her baby's life.  Typically, women who carry the Rh negative blood type are given a blood product called Rhogam, which protects the mother from developing an auto-immune response against her future babies. In Courtney's case, Rhogam (also known as anti-D) did not work. As a result, her own body "attacked" her third baby, causing her baby to have life-threatening anemia in utero.  The purpose of this episode is to help mothers (a) learn about the issue behind Rh negative blood types; (b) understand how Rhogam works to prevent isoimmuization; (c) know the risks associated with receiving the Rhogam injection; and (d) feel empowered by discovering that even a high-risk pregnancy, such as Courtney's, can be co-managed under midwifery care to achieve the labor and birth goals associated with a low-intervention or natural birth. This show is sponsored by:Silverette USA*Postpartum Soothe*Baby Notebook - Get the App Here*Use promo code DOWNTOBIRTH**********Connect with us on Patreon for our exclusive content.Email Contact@DownToBirthShow.comInstagram @downtobirthshowCall us at 802-GET-DOWN Work with Cynthia: 203-952-7299 HypnoBirthingCT.com Work with Trisha: 734-649-6294 Please remember we don't provide medical advice. RH factor in pregnancy and RhD alloimmunization in pregnancy. What happends when a patient has RH negative blood during prengnacy and what happends when alloimmunization takes place.  RhD-negative patients who deliver an RhD-positive newborn or who are otherwise exposed to RhD-positive red blood cells are at risk of developing antibodies which can leadd to alloimmunization.   This primarily affects a subsequent pregnancy if the patient is exposed to RhD positive blood during the pregnancy or labor.    If the next pregnacy has a RhD-positive fetuses, that pregnancy is at risk for developing hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn (HDFN), which can be associated with serious fetal anemia and fetal hydrops.  This episode reviews the importance of the Rh factor in pregnancy.    Our practice website can be found at: Maternal Resources: https://www.maternalresources.org/ Remember to subscribe wherever you get your podcasts.  Please consider leaving us a review on iTunes Our Social Channels are as follows Twitter: https://twitter.com/integrativeob YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/maternalresources IG: https://www.instagram.com/integrativeobgyn/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/IntegrativeOB

The trio also talk about the differences of playing in FORQ and Snarky Puppy, and the musical curiosity that keeps their music fresh. You can hear Alex's remix “Duck People (No Fly List)” here.FORQ is an instrumental quartet with a dynamic sound and a penchant for sonic exploration. The group is composed of world-class improvisers, but it is their unusually memorable, genre-blending songs that leave the most lasting impression. Originally founded by keyboardist Henry Hey (David Bowie, Empire of the Sun, Jeff "Tain" Watts) and bassist Michael League (Grammy-winning leader of Snarky Puppy), Forq is now joined by guitarist Chris McQueen (Snarky Puppy, Bokanté), drummer Jason "JT" Thomas (Roy Hargrove's RH Factor, Marcus Miller, Snarky Puppy, Mark Lettieri Trio) and bassist Kevin Scott (Wayne Krantz, Jimmy Herring, Col. Bruce Hampton). They have toured across the US and Europe and performed at international festivals including the North Sea Jazz festival and GroundUP Festival in Miami Beach.Moods & Modes is presented by Osiris Media. The30minuteMixes air every Friday at 4pm(UK) on Blue-in-Green:RADIO and feature music-only mixes of some of our heroes. For this episode, we delve into the catalogue of jazz trumpeter's off-shoot jazz-funk project, The RH Factor. www.blueingreenradio.com November 2nd 2018 marked the sad passing of trumpeter, composer, band leader - Roy Hargrove. The Texan native, under the initial turorage of Wynton Marsalis, released his first album in 1990 and was just as adept at playing in trios as he was commanding a big band or an orchestra. Signing to the legendary Verve Records in 1994, Hargrove won his first Grammy in 1998 for his Afro-Cuban project 'Habana' but it was his work with contemporary soul and hp-hop artists including D'Angelo ('Voodoo'), Erykah Badu ('Mama's Gun') and Common ('Like Water For Chocolate') that really introduced his work to a new generation. His offshoot project, The RH Factor, inspired by these collaborations say him venture into the world of jazz-funk through the releases 'Hard Groove' (2003), 'Strength' (2004) and 'Distractions' (2006). The projects were brought to life through a wide selection of musicians and vocalists including Renee Neufville, Pino Palladino, James Poyser, Meshell Ndegeocello, D'Angelo, Q-Tip, Erykah Badu, Anthony Hamilton, Stephanie McKay, amongst many others. The importance of projects like Hargrove's RH Factor really can't be over-stated: while many can sometimes feel that jazz may not be as accessible as other forms of music, crossover and fusion projects like these do wonders in introducing jazz to a wider audience.

Nuestros inviados: Elis Regina & Tom Jobim; Gal Costa; Astor Piazzola; Kenny Rankin; Elis Regina; China Moses; Dinah Washington; Sara lazarus; The Hot Sardines; The RH Factor; Joe McBride; David Bowie.

If you are living in the east coast, by now you have probably heard of the self taught artist from Delaware, Rick Hidalgo. With an abundance of drive and passion, Rick has been able to explore many different mediums in art. From sketches in charcoal, to paintings, sculpting, resin, and now woodwork, he has excelled with his amazing eye to detail and expression of natural habitats. His pieces are not only visually stunning and very avant garde, but hold significant emotion behind each piece. Rick's involvement in the local art community lead him to begin his teaching career in Wilmington in 2013. Join us as we talk about the importance of health, happiness, and passion being the main fuel for his leadership in this industry. We will also talk about working in many different mediums, life changes, teaching, and his new studio that he has been able to redesign and build, due to open in the fall - You don't want to miss this!

Mentioned during this show: if you'd like to listen to podcasts without the little white box, visit NoiPodRequired.com to learn about other methods for podcast listening. Also: A listener asked me recently to edit out portions of episodes in which I mention the listener, and suggested I then re-post the shows - something that's virtually impossible to accomplish without making a total hash of the feed. I'd like your thoughts - should I leave the shows as they are, or take those shows down completely? Use the email button on the right side of this page to send me your thoughts, send an audio file, or call the Murphy's Saloon comment line: 312-239-0678. Remember, if you write or call, your comments may be read or played as part of a future Murphy's Saloon episode.
