Rematamos con más sones latinoamericanos desde Brasil, Colombia y Argentina. We dive into the deepest Amazon in search of its music. In the Peruvian Amazon we discover sounds from the jungle region of the 70s and 80s reissued by the label Analog Africa. And downstream, in Brazil, we find the releases of Alter do Som, from the state of Pará, where we enjoy carimbó and other rhythms coming from that land. The golden age of vinyl records is long past in Africa, but the market for rare and reissued African vinyl outside the continent has been growing steadily since the early 2000s. DJs and collectors have turned an obsession with rare records and forgotten gems from Cape Town to Tangiers into an international reissue and compilation industry, led by record labels such as Soundway, Strut and Analog Africa. This program explores some of the complex and shifting dynamics of neocolonialism, cultural ownership and audience in the African vinyl market. We'll hear stories from label owners, DJs and artists, touching on controversies around Nigerian disco funk reissues, new career opportunities for sometimes-obscure African artists, the unique vinyl culture in South Africa, and much more. Dónal's search for the perfect summer dancing soundtrack takes him to the Caribbean island of Guadeloupe where he takes a deep-dive into the ancient Gwo Ka sound. The journey begins and ends in land-locked Zimbabwe however where we tune into the emotional sound of The Movers who are just about to have a comprehensive retrospective released by the ever-brilliant Analog Africa label.    We stop-over for another blast of Cape Verdean magic from Manuel Gomes before making land on Guadeloupe and immersing ourselves in the percussive trance-like sound of Gaoulé Mizig. La semaine dernière avec l'équipe au grand complet, on partait pour l'Afrique de l'Ouest, dans la corne de l'Afrique pour vous parler de la musique de la Somalie ! La situation politique du pays, en proie à une guerre civile qui n'en finit pas depuis 1978, implique des difficultés pour les artistes locaux de réussir à faire entendre leurs voix et productions en dehors du pays, et les quelques disques d'artistes restés au pays nous sont souvent parvenus grâce au travail d'employés de radios soucieux de sauvegarder la culture musicale locale, et par le travail de recherches de quelques labels spécialisés dans les compilations (les très bons Awesome Tapes From Africa et Analog Africa donc nous vous parlons souvent) qui ont permis d'exhumer quelques disques et artistes de l'époque pré-guerre civile. Au programme on retrouve la tradition musicale Qaraami, mêlant à la fois des influences highlife, Ethio-Jazz, la musique pop arabe, ou encore le funk et la soul. On passe par des artistes exilés loin de Somalie pour pouvoir exprimer leur musique. La semaine dernière avec l'équipe au grand complet, on partait pour l'Afrique de l'Ouest, dans la corne de l'Afrique pour vous parler de la musique de la Somalie ! La situation politique du pays, en proie à une guerre civile qui n'en finit pas depuis 1978, implique des difficultés pour les artistes locaux de réussir à faire entendre leurs voix et productions en dehors du pays, et les quelques disques d'artistes restés au pays nous sont souvent parvenus grâce au travail d'employés de radios soucieux de sauvegarder la culture musicale locale, et par le travail de recherches de quelques labels spécialisés dans les compilations (les très bons Awesome Tapes From Africa et Analog Africa donc nous vous parlons souvent) qui ont permis d'exhumer quelques disques et artistes de l'époque pré-guerre civile. Au programme on retrouve la tradition musicale Qaraami, mêlant à la fois des influences highlife, Ethio-Jazz, la musique pop arabe, ou encore le funk et la soul. On passe par des artistes exilés loin de Somalie pour pouvoir exprimer leur musique. On termine sur un peu de RnB contemporain. Deuxième émission de l'année pour Mappemonde et le retour aux affaires de l'équipe habituelle ! Après un petit égarement par la Belgique sous la houlette du grand manitou Thomas qui était revenu pour l'occasion, les usual suspects de Mappemonde reviennent pour commencer l'année 2022 du bon pied. Pour ce premier rendez-vous commun de l'année nous nous sommes décidés à retourner en Afrique pour s'intéresser à la musique du Bénin ! C'est le premier passage de Mappemonde au Bénin, après avoir pas mal sillonné l'Afrique de l'Ouest (en passant par le Cameroun, le Sénégal, le Nigéria dans les 70's 2 fois, et la Côte d'Ivoire). Il nous était difficile de passer au Bénin sans parler du Tout Puissant Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou, orchestre polymorphe qui depuis le milieu des années 60 pilonne le pays et le continent de ses multiples albums, pour certains réédités ou compilés sur le très bon label Analog Africa (dont on vous cause assez régulièrement quand on part sur le continent Africain). L'ombre de l'orchestre se retrouve un peu comme un fil tout au long de cette émission, que ce soit via des projets solos de membres historique de l'orchestre, ou via des notes de bas de page d'artistes ayant pu collaborer avec eux. Ma dopo pochissimo è a Roma, e a Civitavecchia si imbarca su un mercantile greco, lavorando come marinaio e nel giro di un anno toccando porti del Nord Europa, dell'Africa e del Brasile. Tornato nell'81 a Roma, viene ingaggiato come chitarrista da un gruppo capoverdiano, e negli anni successivi registra a Sutri, in provincia di Viterbo, due album personali. Il secondo, Jà Bo Corre D'Mim, inciso nel '94, con Tchiss come cantante e organista, ebbe all'epoca una circolazione non sono nelle comunità capoverdiane in Italia, e un brano è stato inserito nella raccolta Space Echo, dedicata dalla Analog Africa al filone di musica capoverdiana che negli anni settanta e ottanta adottò suoni non acustici e nuove strumentazioni, a cominciare da tastiere come Farfisa, Rhodes, Korg e Moog. Adesso l'etichetta milanese Arabusta Records ha avuto la bella idea di ristampare - in vinile, cd e digitale - questo album doppiamente pionieristico: come esempio dei nuovi trend della musica capoverdiana di allora, e come precoce caso di musica africana incisa in Italia.
