Julietta Boscolo is a writer, director, actor, improviser and all round lovely human being who I'm lucky enough to do a sporadic comedy radio show with. She tells stories that reveal the original in the overlooked and whether it be through the TV shows, commercials or films she's directed or written, she inspires audiences to make emotional discoveries about the world and themselves. Julietta's got awards and accolades coming out of her ears - winning the ‘Emerging Filmmaker Award' at Melbourne's International Film Festival for Let's See How Fast This Baby Will Go, an Australian Directors Guild Award for Sam's Gold; and even having her feature project, The Sound of Light selected as one of only nine international projects, for the Venice International Film Festival's Biennale College. Back in January I coaxed Julietta into the studio and starting with the origins of her passion for directing - at school and at home entertaining her 5 siblings; we traced her remarkable life and career all the way up to the present day- where throwing off the shackles of stigma and shame she felt from her impoverished childhood has enabled her to tell powerful and unique stories that resonate with audiences around the World. Julietta had much wisdom to dispense on a wide range of topics; from work ethic, to collaboration and her creative process, so this is a definite listen for anyone interested in following a creative path of their own. I had a great time chatting to Julietta so I hope there's something in here for you too. Without further ado, I take you live to Bondi Beach Radio where our conversation was recorded. Want more Juliette? You can keep up with her exciting projects on her instagram (@hoolib) and website and if you want to watch something right now; an episode of primetime hit drama, Doctor Doctor (The Heart Guy - US) she recently directed has just aired this week on Australia's C9! Thanks as always for listening
*Featured guest mix begins @ 18:20* Welcome to the second-helping of Swerve in it's new format!! This time round we've got an absolute FIRE mix from our own stablemate Nait Sands aka Tom Penny! The Majestic Bogan Raver has been a stalwart of the Swerve crew since it's inception in 2013 and it's humble beginnings as just a few mates spinning tunes on a Saturday afternoon on Bondi Beach Radio as a pre-drinking warm up dance session for the weekend. As members came and went, inspiration peaked and waned, seasons warmed and cooled, there was only one constant, the one and only Tom Penny. The glue that holds the Swerve family together, the musical and spiritual heart of our collective has been honing his skills and building a gigantic library and knowledge of underground dance music for many years now, playing regular gigs and festivals around Sydney alongside his radio duties, holding down a monthly residency alongside Cosmo Jones as "Cosmic Boogie" at Cafe Lounge which has become a cult classic night for house and disco table top dancing, this is a DJ on the verge of being recognised for the incredible talent he is. Tom Penny in this feature mix brings for you an eclectic mix, seamlessly swerving through Balearic vibes, broken beats and acid workouts, showcasing his impeccable taste and mixing; always with the dance floor firmly at the forefront of his mind. ENJOY!
This week on Bondi Beach Radio's travel show, Katie is joined by Delphine Mignon, the Sydney-based travel blogger behind Lester Lost, who gives us insight into why Sri Lanka should definitely be on your travel bucket list. We also ask listeners about what they think is the WORLD'S MOST BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY + see how they stack up to results of the Rough Guide's recent reader poll. We also take a look at the cities considered the best for the DIGITAL NOMAD, and take a Wild Spin of the Web to see what's new in the world of online travel. First aired on Bondi Beach Radio 6th September 2017.

Focused on the positives & new beginnings. This morning I emailed the founder & the GM of Bondi Beach Radio and effective immediately I am stepping away from the radio station & have asked them to remove Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet! from the program grid. This decision is something that I've been contemplating for a few months now for a number of reasons, which out of respect for the BBR crew and myself I won't go into. I am a little sad, but relieved to have made the right decision for myself and the business, brand and podcast moving forward. The Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet! show will continue to go from strength to strength every single week on iTunes with some amazing international guests coming up including Matt Vroom (San Francisco-based tech founder of Henge Docks), inspiring American #socialentrepreneur Alexis Jones and while I can't announce anything just yet, there are a few big things brewing for the business moving forward! Much love to all my show subscribers, friends & fans. You guys and gals are one of the key reasons that I continue to evolve as a broadcaster and strive to bring you awesome new guests and their amazing stories each and every week! Happiness! Anyone who listens to Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet! on Bondi Beach Radio and the iTunes podcast every week, will know that I am a massive fan and believer in chasing your dreams in the pursuit of happiness. This week I am excited to have award-winning Australian comedian, podcaster & writer, Tom Ballard on Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet! to promote his 2017 stand-up show ‘Problematic’ that’s LIVE at Giant Dwarf this Thursday - Sunday as part of Sydney Comedy Festival. Over the past 2 years since our last recording together, Tom’s stand-up comedy career has been on a sharp rise to the top, enjoying nominations for Best Show at both Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2016, his American television debut on Comedy Central’s Roast Battle at Montreal’s Just for Laughs Festival, his political podcast Like I’m A Six-Year-Old has just hit 100 episodes and continues to grow from strength to strength and at the end of 2016 he appeared in SBS’s ground-breaking series First Contact, a journey of discovery into Aboriginal Australia. One of the joys that I have discovered that comes as a result of surrounding yourself with like-minded people also pursuing their own ambition and success, is that invariably you get to watch your friends rise to the challenge, share their journeys and celebrate your collective wins along the way. Tom Ballard was certainly already well on his way to this success we first met 6 years ago, whilst launching triple j unearthed as a radio station back in 2011, but to then watch him have the courage to leave his role has co-host of the Tom & Alex morning show on triple j, take a leap of faith to achieve his dream of being a successful stand-up comedian and see where he’s at now just makes me so happy! "Being your own master of your life and your passions, it’s a very powerful and important thing to do and if you have a chance to take it then grab it with both hands.” - Tom Ballard. Never a truer word spoken, my man. Let’s get into the show! To turn the page and venture down a path without knowing what lies ahead, just because you think that it might get you to a place that you never even dreamed of. Life is to be enjoyed and from an early age, this fast-talking, energetic North London lad has built a life and career out of exploration. Whether it be writing/presenting nationwide radio music documentaries whilst living in New Zealand, opening up the eyes and world of Kingston's youth whilst working as an art auctioneer in Jamaica or his London journey from star music student to record producer, the life of Boston Rodriguez is one of Choose Your Own Adventure and it is truly my pleasure to bring that adventure to you! 119 Krafty Kuts + Chali 2NA from Jurassic 5 live in Bondi 3pm Friday, my friend AJ from Central Station Records drops me a line… “We have Krafty Kuts & Chali 2na (of Jurassic 5) doing their “It Ain’t My Fault” single launch at the Beach Road Hotel in Bondi this Wednesday 1st of March…” can we hook up an interview on Bondi Beach Radio? Yes, yes and yes… So AJ sends me through a couple of pressers (press releases) and a copy of the brand new single “It Ain’t My Fault” and then come Monday morning, I find myself in the boardroom at Central Station Records in Sydney for a 2:1 chat with Kraft Kuts and Chali 2na. Awesome! Our vast ranging chats cover Krafty Kuts' earliest ever memory from his childhood of the family cat in Kingston upon Thames in the UK and Chali’s memories of his 2nd birthday in the projects of south-side Chicago, the pleasures of working with Dynamite MC and Chali 2na to bring this jam to life, our shared experiences of the inspiration of hip hop street art in Miami, Rome, Montpellier, Belgium and their 2 pieces of advice that Krafty Kuts and Chali 2na give to someone who has a dream, but is afraid to take that first step. As Krafty tells it, studying your art and creating magic is all about practicing your art form to hone yourself into the best at what you do and I felt that myself even during this interview, as while I usually capture what I need in hour long shows that I’ve been recording for 2.5 years, we made this shit work in 25 minutes. I’ll be heading down to their show Beach Road Bondi this Wednesday night 1st of March for sure! Stoked to be able to launch “It Ain’t My Fault” by Krafty Kuts & Dynamite MC featuring Chali 2na of Jurassic 5 on my show on Bondi Beach Radio at 9am AEST this morning (USA 2pm PT and 5pm ET) and now you can also download the interview right here, right now on iTunes. These two gentleman are consummate professionals, super enigmatic and downright lovely… And maaaaaaannnn… this jam is GOLD! Exciting Bondi Beach Radio show for Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet! this week as we catch-up with Bec Scott, co-founder & CEO of STREAT, a social enterprise set-up to stop youth homelessness. It's wonderful to be able to share the STREAT story with my Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet and Bondi Beach Radio audience! Excited to catch-up with Two Space co-founder and social entrepreneur, Tashi Dorjee! Indirectly, my connection with Tashi is actually the reason Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet! is now a weekly show on Bondi Beach Radio. Tashi and I met at the Two Space co-working space for start-ups and entrepreneurs at the Kings Cross Hotel a few weeks back and I just had to get him on the show to tell his story. Partnering with Optus and Amazon, TwoSpace connects underutilised spaces with a community of entrepreneurs, creating unique spaces that help businesses start, connect and grow. We also chat about his work with Carbon Conservation, a business dedicated to conserving the rainforests of Indonesia and current protects 1 million hectares of rainforest and the introduction of Himalayan Chai into the Australian market back in the day by his grandmother, which went on to be adopted by Gloria Jeans and more. Vast-ranging and fascinating chats and I just love meeting new people whom I feel like I’ve known for years. House Your Soul On Bondi Beach Radio 12/01/2017 Feat Rotary Disco and Ron Basejam
A highly successful marketing and brand communications professional who has worked with a number of high profile businesses, today’s guest on Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet on Bondi Beach Radio, Rebecca Coomes, is a friend of mine whom I’ve known for about 20 years and is now the owner and founder of The Healthy Gut and author of the new series of SIBO Cookbooks. Before we get into the thick of things of show I wanted provide people with context as to the subject matter today and what SIBO is for those of you who haven’t heard of it before. I must admit to feeling a little confronted bringing this topic to radio as it is not easy subject matter to bring up in a public sphere, but that in itself is exactly why I decided that it was important to do it. Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) is caused when excess number of bacteria enter the small intestine. Some of the symptoms associated with SIBO include abdominal cramping, bloating, food sensitivities and diarrhoea and/or constipation. Though not well known in Australia, SIBO is potentially a very common condition as it is estimated that up to 80% of IBS sufferers may actually have undiagnosed SIBO. Author Rebecca Coomes suffered from chronic health issues her whole life. After years of frustrations seeing GPs and her health not improving, she turned to a Naturopath who diagnosed her with SIBO and recommended a new clean eating plan restricting all grains, all sugars, fermentable fibres and processed foods amongst a wider list of gut troubling foods. It means so much to me to promote the wonderful projects and businesses that my friends and people that inspire me are creating and if I can’t utilise my own platforms to not only celebrate their hard work, but raise awareness for important topics that quite often go unnoticed and can make a massive impact on people’s lives in the process, then what is the point in doing what I do. And the best part? The recipes are 100% gluten-free and include dairy-free and sugar-free recipes too. Bec Coomes, you are a legend! Let’s get into the show! Damian Costin has been in the music industry for over 20 years. Starting out as the drummer of Australian rock band Motor Ace in the late 90’s performing shows with bands including the Foo Fighters, Oasis and Blink 182, Damo switched to the other side of the fence and hit the ground running as one of the top bookers in the Australian industry and a few years back founded his own artist booking agency and corporate business called 123 Agency. 123 Agency boasts an super impressive artist roster that is testament to the hard work of Damo and his 123 Agency team. There’s a whole BUNCH of my favourite Australian artists and bands including Kingswood, Tash Sultana, Ash Grunwald, Harts, Pierce Brothers, Clairy Browne, The Delta Riggs and shitloads more. Studying biochemistry the 1st time around at university, travelling the world over for Emirates Airline for 6.5 years as a flight attendant based in Dubai, putting a 900 square metre ice rink on the sands of Bondi Beach, creating a role music supervisor on Ballistyx Snowboard Show music supervisor and a swag other roles in the music industry and now I have a business and career in an field that didn’t even exist 15 years ago… Finger on the pulse and yep, I’m making it all up as I go along! And this is a MASSIVE part of why I’m filled with the most amazing energy when I catch-up with self-starters like Australian lifestyle commentator, blogger, social media strategist & influencer, Lisa Clark. Very much like myself, Lisa Clark has created a career for herself that she loves by following a #ChooseYourOwnAdventure-style approach to life - choosing to pursue roles based on gut instinct, passion and curiosity. In this vast ranging episode of Hot & Delicious: Rocks The Planet!, Lisa and I enjoy candid discussions about knowing, staying true to and building your own personal brand, blogging for Skillsroad (an initiative set-up to help the youth of Australia who aren't sure what they want to do in life to discover what kinds of careers will suit their personality type and they might actually enjoy), our respective journeys to living in Bondi Beach and falling in love with this beach community, life growing up in the Western Suburbs of Sydney, Lisa’s love for the Penrith Panthers & early dreams of being a Panthers cheerleader, the support of her dad & best friend Kevin, the challenges of dealing with family members with depression, her mum’s epilepsy and so much more. Lisa Clark is hilarious, independent, ambitious and inspiring. Easily one of my favourite shows of 2016. I was buzzing afterwards! To me, the secret to happiness is all about learning how to be present and in the moment, soaking up the journey that is life and pursuing what makes you happy. Pull the trigger. Its been a massive couple of years musically for me. Ive opened my mind and ears a lot more to sounds and styles than i ever have before its been as fun as starting in the late nineties Changing my alias from MR-X TO R/T has changed me in being this biast Dj playing the "real sound " (well that's i thought anyway loll) To this open minded spinner R/T that's open minded free relaxed and plays "whatever sounds good" i had an important chat with fellow Sydney DJ Frankie Romano last week im thinking on the right track but asked him "i want your opinion on the new stuff im playing this past 18 months i want you to tell me your opinion as a DJ if im going wrong where is it" His words have changed me as a DJ he said : "There's nothing wrong with your music and mixing the only thing i can say is that you still care what everyone thinks and being critical on yourself fuck everyone have fun and it will show in your sets " This my best set yet !! Thanks Frankie !!
Matt Baker is a bionanotechnologist, a spoken word poet enthusiast, a player of the gentlemanly sport of fencing and a DJ in the not-so-gentlemanly music genre dancehall. He also hosts a radio show every week on Bondi Beach Radio, has lived in New Zealand, California and England as well as travelled around to many other countries in the name of science and sport. His many and varied interests rarely intersect, but this week we spoke about most of them on Out of the Box as well as exploring the music with which he playlists his life.

A Few weeks ago we threw our first Party, Swerve Presents: Bon Voyage. We recorded and broadcasted all of our sets live from the venue via Bondi Beach Radio. The evening was a night of memories and love, as we sent off our Founding member and all round mad dog... Kieren Hellmore in style. Here is the set from Scatterbrain aka Joel Pearson, an official badman on the decks, he rips through a set of brooding, dark, bass heavy goodness sure to ripple ya chestplate. Check it out!
For the first time on the radio show, our three trusty residents, Venda, DJ Jim Poe, and Swampy were responsible for the music programming this fine Sydney evening. On Tuesday 8th July, 2014, the DHA crew gathered in the Bondi Beach Radio studios and made magic happen. Venda played an all vinyl set, and it was the perfect lead-into Jim Poe and Swampy. Venda's was deep, a little stripped back and very raw house. Jim threw down what we've all come to know as his brand of NYC or Chicago-feeling deep house, to somewhat tech house at times, but that's a conversation for another time! Swampy finished off the last 40 minutes with what some might call techno, others, well they might call it tech house. We won't dwell on genre's here... Just enjoy the #*&^ing music. 0:00-0:40 Venda 0:40-1:20 DJ Jim Poe 1:20-2:00 Swampy for a full tracklisting, visit http://soundcloud.com/deephouseau/dha-weekly-show-053-residents-only-special-bondi-beach-radio
Sydney duo Set Mo have been working the local scene as DJs until turning their hand at production. After a couple of teaser releases in 2013, Sydney-based etcetc Music have snapped up the pair and signed them to their label, with plans for their debut EP to drop next month, August 2014. When we asked them about their mix for the DHA Podcast, this is what they had to say: "This time of year is awesome for all DJs regardless of musical taste. All the dance labels and artists are putting out their biggest tunes for the northern hemisphere's summer season. There's so much great music coming out at the moment we felt compelled to put together a mix of the stuff we're digging. The mix starts off quite funky with some disco, grooving house and even a brazilian joint. Around the halfway marks it steps up a notch and moves into some more clubby stuff. This mix is a good representation of the style we play out. There's also a couple of our most recent remixes in there to give you an idea of the music we produce." Set Mo also have a fortnightly radio show on Bondi Beach Radio, Tuesdays 10pm Sydney-time. Enjoy the music... Our next guest is fellow Bondi Beach Radio presenter Seher (@seher). When we spoke to Seher and asked her what the inspiration for her mix was, this is what she had to say: "I’m a big fan of OFF Recordings and you will notice many tracks and remixes by Andre Crom in this mix, along with some remixes by Nice7, Sonny Fodera and Larse. This mix is more on the upbeat and bouncy side of deep house. The last two tracks, ‘So Long’ and ‘Time to Get Physical’ were treasures when they came out, so when I heard the recent remixes I knew I wanted to include them because their ass-shaking effect. " We think she should have her own brand of house music named after her - Seher House! We love the bassy, upvibe, vocal and dancy tunes she's selected for us. It gives us that warm and fuzzy feeling! Check it out and let us know what you think in the comments... TRACK LISTING 1. Hotel DAmour (Original Mix) - Chi Thanh 2.
