"If a record is falling apart at the seams, I'll probably like it." Recorded live at Houghton 2024, our latest Playing Favourites episode sees the London artist discussing the beautiful leftfield music that's soundtracked his life. British DJ and producer Call Super brings some colour to the depths of winter with this week's RA Exchange. The multifaceted artist has released music on Houndstooth, Hessle Audio, fabric, Dekmantel and the label he co-runs with Parris, can you feel the sun, becoming known for a deep yet always party-ready sound that combines house, UK funky, tech house and plenty more besides. In this interview, recorded at last year's Houghton Festival, he talks to RA's managing editor, Carlos Hawthorn, as part of our flagship live series, Playing Favourites. Among his choices are the music he listened to as a child; the record that inspired his passion for DJing; an artist who changed his perspective on music at large; and more practical songs he deploys in sets to refresh a crowd. The territory he covers is huge, from tech house and acid house to contemporary classical, experimental leftfield, abstract percussion and choral music. There are some tracks, he claims, that only work in certain contexts, but if played at the right time, "they send people." Listen to the episode in full. – Chloe Lula

We premiere new music from Canoe label boss and ‘Adonis resident Nyra as he returns to his imprint with his latest single ‘Happy Highs'. Nyra keeps the sun-soaked house vibes coming as we approach the final days of summer, providing an uplifting piano anthem that was made for festival stages. London-based DJ/producer Nyra has been carving his own path on the underground since 2008, with his celebrated parties in hometown Sheffield, drawing guests including Ben UFO and Steffi. A move to London, and career switch from professional cyclist saw his profile rise further, with releases on labels including Secretsundaze and Domino, alongside his own imprint, Canoe – ‘Happy Highs' being the respected label's 15th release. Nyra goes big on ‘Happy Highs', an infectious piano house cut that's impossible to resist. Bright, uplifting and belting, it's already been sending ravers into meltdown during the festival road-tests and is perfect for an end of summer tear up. “With Happy Highs, I wanted to create a track that captured the euphoria of an endless summer of long parties and night outs, with lots of energy and danceability. This is the 15th release on Canoe and kicks off the label's next phase as we head towards our 20th release later this year. It's been going off when I've dropped it in all my recent sets at Glastonbury block 9 and Adonis, and I'm grateful for the support from Ryan Elliot, Krystal Klear, Peggy Gou, and Call Super to name a few. Don't worry be happy!” – Nyra. About You perfekt unperfekte Gitarren-Musik liefert. Zaltsman knows a thing or two about what sets off the dance floor. Whether it's behind the decks, in the studio or as a curator, the London-based artist has a knack for getting bodies moving. His own productions for the likes of Dansu Discs, Silver Bear and Cross Country are characterised by crisp percussion and infectious rhythms, plus he's a real dab hand at flipping a classic for the club. Over the last few years his music has been getting props left, right and centre, becoming a staple in the sets of DJs like Midland, Ben UFO and Moxie, and we imagine it'll be no different for his next release, You Fly, So Do We. The EP inaugurates the brand new label arm of his long running party series Emergency Room. Since 2017 they've been throwing events across London, Bristol and Brighton, inviting artists like Overmono, Call Super, Leon Vynehall and Eliza Rose to join them. He takes care of this week's Shine A Light On mix with a blend of shuffling, percussive, rhythmic delights that would set the off the dance.
We break this one down into extreme detail. Who will win - the Philadelphia Eagles or Kansas City Chiefs? Which props are we going to bet? This Friday, @parris_dj releases his long-awaited debut album, Soaked In Indigo Moonlight, on the can you feel the sun label he co-runs with Call Super. The album is rooted in the pop music he loves but characterised by his own inventive rhythms, joyful vocal features and the many different emotions associated with personal relationships. It comes after years of colourful and psychedelic takes on bass and techno on labels like Idle Hands and Hemlock, and marks a new high watermark in his already assured discography. On this week's mix, Parris threads together all aspects of his sound - there's restrained bass music, lively grime and novel techno. Each one is skewed through his own lens and served up with compelling energy. Despite the physical results, the dynamic grooves retain the sort of depth and detail that keep your head as busy as your heel.
With tracks of Space Afrika, Young Marco, Ssaliva, Chrysta Bell, Galcher Lustwerk, Grand River, DJ Python, Il Quadro Di Troisi, James K, Call Super, Meetsysteem & Victor de Roo, RAMZi, Priori, Saint Etienne, Avalon Emerson, Meetsysteem and Stargate. This month's guest is Berlin based producer and DJ Joseph Richmond-Seaton, also known as @Call-Super. Perhaps best known for his incredible, often surreal, abstract, and psychedelic compositions like 2014's breakthrough Suzi Ecto and 2017's Arpo, Call Super's love of music runs deep. He's a dedicated producer, starting every day in the studio and working away the hours, whether he feels inspired or not. Music is one of the only pursuits, alongside drawing and painting, that allows him to reach a state of total presence — something he considers essential for happiness. In this conversation, we look back on Joe's childhood, the escapism he's found in music and art, and the nature of staying present. +++ Music: "Ekko Ink" - Call Super (2017) "Coney Storm Drain" - Call Super (2014) "Every Mouth Teeth Missing" - Call Super (2020) "Sulu Sekou" - Call Super (2014) "OK Werkmeister" - Call Super (2017)
Bside Incoming: Metropolitan Soul Museum We're welcoming a London based duo to the Bside Turntables. Filippo and Nick Woolfson (Mock and Toof) used to run Teng Records and play together at the city's premier venues like Peckham's Rye Wax and DreamBags Juguarshoes, but for more than five years now they've operated under the name: Metropolitan Soul Museum (MSM) They are top class producer's and have released their ‘sonically melodic' brand of electronic music on labels like Public Release, Rawax, Gestalt Records, Normals Welcome, Echocentric Records, Lyssna Records. Filippo even played us a couple of their lovely productions! The beautiful E State from their Travellers EP as well as Call Super's remix of one of Nick's (Mock and Toof) tracks called The Key. But here's a banging Bside from their first release on a label that has featured on our 'Bside of' showcase … Toy Tonics: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKckrFX-Dug Check their soundcloud here - https://soundcloud.com/metropolitan-soul-museum And their Bandcamp - https://metropolitansoulmuseum.bandcamp.com/releases A special shout out, for this episode, to our artist-in-residence Molly. Her art is incredible and her contribution to the Bside image invaluable, but we're particularly loving her recent depiction of MSM chilling with their little synths! For over two decades Reggie Dokes has been carving his own path in the world of underground house music. He rose quickly through the Detroit scene in the early 90s, being Derrick May's go-to support act and releasing records on his own Psychostasia imprint. Since then, he has racked up releases for labels like We Play House Recordings, Sistrum, and Prime Numbers. We celebrate his latest release for MATE's From Detroit To Madrid series with a mix dripping with soul. After that, we hear from Breaka. The UK artist broke through last year, with a stellar release on Desert Sound Colony’s Holding Hands Records that was battered by the likes of Call Super and Noncompliant. He is set to launch his own imprint later this month, including tracks almost custom-made for his workout focused party Stretchy Dance Supply. Get ready to sweat. *Intro* Reggie Dokes - Boogie Down [MATE] *Reggie Dokes* --No Tracklist-- *Breaka* --No Tracklist--

Some of the most exciting new energy in San Francisco dance music has come from a close-knit group of techno heads — often spotted out together on the dance-floor, usually clad in black. Two of those techno heads, David Grunzweig (aka Tape Ghost) and Eugenia Puglisi (aka sleepygirl), have commandeered the latest edition of As You Like It's podcast series. And although they are techno fanatics in the true sense — read below for some of the recent club nights and gigs that have inspired them — their AYLI podcast features a house-flavored twist, a lighter mood than we might expect from them. The two will DJ back-to-back this Friday, May 10, as part of a two-floor As You Like It takeover at Monarch in San Francisco. They’ll heat up the Lounge upstairs while Call Super, Jason Kendig, and Dr. Rubinstein turn the basement into a techno dungeon — the last batch of tickets is available here.

In Hour 1 we welcome Parris ahead of his new release 'Puro Rosaceaes' on Idle Hands, which features a remix by Gunnar Wendel under his KMOS alias. His previous releases have been on Tempa, Ancient Monarchy, Hemlock Recordings and The Trilogy Tapes. Over the last few years Parris has secured his position as one of the most forward thinking UK Techno producers. With music from ESG, CVX, Bruce, Mobb Deep, Joy Orbison, Craig Mack, Call Super and Nas, he had this to say about his mix; "A snapshot of records in my collection which have influenced my own musical output mixed in with some newer bits. Wanted to create more of a mixtape, music in my record collection which comes from loads of different places and spaces but can still make sense with each other in the right context even if the tunes were made 20 years apart." In Hour 2 we hand over to Virginia the talented DJ, singer, songwriter and producer who has been deeply involved in electronic music for over a decade. Growing up in Munich, the energetic and dedicated artist quickly found her feet in music. Having relocated to Berlin she’s been a Panorama Bar resident since 2012. Her DJ sets fuse warm analog house and electro of the 80s and 90s with off-kilter swinging grooves, layered with spontaneous live vocals that add a unique third dimension. She released her first solo production, the Loch & Hill EP, on Ostgut Ton in 2013, followed by her My Fantasy EP and her debut LP, Fierce For The Night, in May 2016, which was co-produced by Dexter, Martyn and Steffi. She recently did a remix for Steve Bug & Langenberg and said this about her mix; "I choose some records that I really enjoy at the moment. It is a selection of broken & syncopated tracks who, to me, create an atmospheric and warm soundtrack for cold days ahead.” Playlist: PART 1/2 Parris Come Away -ESG Protesta Humana - CVX Soft Focus - Robert Fleck Love Dub - Mark System Brain Freeze - Fracture and Neptune Sin Skin II - The Binary Collective Ore - Bruce Shook Ones Part II - Mobb Deep Riddim- Andy Mac and Ossia Basic Instinct - Quasimoto 81b - Joy Orbison Get Down (Q-Tip Remix) - Craig Mack Addictive - Truth Hurts Feat Rakim The Amala - Trick Laksa No Angel - Charli XCX Arpo Sunk - Call Super It Ain't Hard To Tell -Nas Soft Touch - Parris PART 3/4 Virginia seahorse outro - aquarian motion rock steady - andy rantzen sofia - menti singole vol 2 351 - nation aiwo 004 laura - menti singole vol 2 treebank ep - joakim hellgren semblance (gnork remix) - mihail p unknown - silicon scally harmonic disassembly - la synthesis fact of the matter - anthony shakir recovery - reedale rise warm and sharp - gosub synthethesizers made of paper - two one four pocahantus in fur - luke eargoggle

A two hour journey into the night with one of Sydney's most trusted guides. Interview with @magdabytnerowicz: melbournedeepcast.net/portfolio/magda-bytnerowicz/ "I've been trying to find a place for a couple of sequences in here for aaaaages and it's so satisfying when the pieces of the puzzle fit together in a way that tells a cohesive story. The Acid Jesus into Urgent track into Call Super sequence at the end I've had in mind for something like 2 years, DJ Steaw into Tracey Thorn into Leafar Legov I feel is a really nice turn around a corner and finally the 4 track sequence that makes up the intro gives me the warm and fuzzies as well. 068: Swelling Progress (Bandcloud) 20/3/16 Dublin, Ireland http://www.shockworldservice.com/ 1. Jana Irmert – Altitude Adjustment From a compilation called self-identified non-male artists making experimental electronic music. Irmert is a Berlin-based sound artist, “interested in the vague, irrational, less tangible aspects of existence”. 2. Head Dress – Devil's Triangle LA-based Ted James Butler, who also records cassette-only podcast Norelco Mori. This experimental track was released on Castle Bravo. 3. CUBOP – Nocturnal Panacea CUBOP shared this track as an "aural gift". A nice clash of experimental noise & more earthly sounds. 4. Vlasta Burian – Vlasta Burian v Obrazarne (in the Picture Gallery) This excerpt comes from a compilation of tracks related to The Okeh Laughing Record. It's a 1930 recording of a Czech comedian. 5. Leaaves – The Only One Who Knew Leaaves makes lush music fuelled by melancholy; this track comes from a release called We Will Forget Our Sadder Days In Summers That Never End. Apt. 6. David Fyans – In An Object Sign up to this guy's Bandcamp sub. He drops beautiful ambient modulations all the time. 7. The first time we met was going to Boxed, where Mitch was playing. Now he's remixing Mitch & collaborates with him as Yaroze Dream Suite.

As London based Call Super is making his Dekmantel debut this summer, we figured it made sense to ask the man for a Podcast. Call Super’s highly distinctive productions and DJ-sets articulate a sense of otherness - a hazy, amorphous aesthetic that’s largely divorced from functional ‘dancefloor’ obligations, and all the better for it. With Suzi Ecto, his debut album from 2014, he has crafted an unconventional and absorbing record and continued to refine a style of music making that defies worthwhile comparison. Just like this, his Dekmantel Podcast is an engaging adventure into different niches of electronic music supplemented with some worldy tunes.

INTERVIEW + TRACKLIST > www.inverted-audio.com/duncan-whiteley Duncan Whiteley is the production moniker of Alex Oxley, a music producer and DJ originally from the north of England, who recently made the move from London to Los Angeles. Under the guise of Duncan Whiteley, Alex explores the more rugged landscapes of electronic music, a symbiosis of noise, techno and electronica. Alex is also on the cusp of launching a record label and artist management company called “Reinhardt Tapes” where he will be releasing Duncan Whiteley collaborations and solo work. We caught up with Alex ahead of his performance at the Werkdiscs night in LA with Actress and Evian Christ on Saturday 28th September to discuss the LA electronic music scene and his visions for “Reinhardt Tapes“. His mix features music from Clouds, Special Request, Untold, Two Lone Swordsmen, Call Super and Clark.
