When a child's family becomes homeless, the most pressing issues are shelter and food, but there are other needs that non-profit organizations like Empower 4 Life are dedicated to addressing. Connie Carnes of Empower 4 Life is speaking with host Jamie Truman about the organization's holistic approach to help children affected by homelessness to thrive in their environment. She goes over the three pillars that lead their work across Baltimore and Howard Counties, including Health for Hope, Fitness for Future, and Resources for Rejuvenation. Empower 4 Life's programs nourish the child's body, mind, and spirit, making it possible for them to grow even in hard times. In this episode, Connie discusses the benefits of these programs, and the impact Empower 4 Life has had on children and their families. You'll learn about their yoga classes, art classes, summer fun during Camp Quest, and more. Whether it's volunteering to work events or donating personal care items during weekly Take Action Thursdays, there are many ways you can help Empower 4 Life in their mission to impact the lives of homeless children in the community. Tune in to learn more! Connect with Empower 4 Life:Website Facebook Instagram LinkedIn TwitterConnect with Jamie at Truman Charities:FacebookInstagramLinkedInWebsiteYouTubeEmail: info@trumancharities.comThis episode was post produced by Podcast Boutique https://podcastboutique.com/

Cass Midgley and Dr. Bob Pondillo interview Amy Monsky. She's the executive director for Camp Quest Southeast, bringing a week of fun, friends, and freethought to kids (and adults!) in North and South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Alabama.  Amy first became involved in Camp Quest in 2010 after learning about it the previous year while searching for a secular alternative to Boy Scouts.  After that first transformative week, Amy went on to found Camp Quest South Carolina which now serves over 110 kids, and is now expanding Camp Quest locations throughout the southeast, including Camp Quest Natchez Trace in Mississippi, operating for the first time this June, and Camp Quest Florida, which is tentatively set to open in 2018.  Amy lives and breathes camp, and any of her free time is spent developing camp activities with her children as guinea pigs or reading about positive youth development and the latest articles from the American Camp Association.  Amy lives with her family in Charleston, South Carolina.   We taped this conversation on April 9th, 2017. We interview people you don’t know, about a subject no one wants to talk about. We hope to encourage people in the process of deconstructing their faith and help curb the loneliness that accompanies it. We think the world is a better place when more people live by sight, not by faith. Please subscribe to our podcast, and leave a review wherever you listen to podcasts. Thanks for stopping by and checking out this installment of TPPP! This week in the pre-ramble, I give a little review of the awesomeness that was NaNoCon 2o17. I had a great time, reconnected with people, met a lot of new people, and consumed copious amounts of beer. It was a beautiful day for it, and there was a bonfire the night before and an after party downtown that topped everything off nicely. A big thanks to the organizers for putting this together, and hopefully it will be even bigger and better next year! For the palaver I talk to Robert and Amy over at Secular Yakking. We talk about their show, the Mr. Potter award, and their natural ability to yak at each other. We also talk about Robert's side project, The Original Motto Project, which is trying to get In God We Trust removed from government property and replaced with the original motto, 'E Pluribus Unum' (Out of many, one). As if that weren't enough, these two are involved with Camp Quest, and their children were campers and are now about to be counselors. There's also yakking about Trump, Northern apathy and Southern enthusiasm for secular issues, ignorance and our shared status as SJWs. There's a lot of yakking on this week's episode, but hopefully y'all will find it entertaining! Music by Dot Dot Dash, cdbaby.com/cd/dotdotdash

In this episode, Bo Bennett interviews Bob Ready, Chair of Camp Quest, along with Sarah Henry, a long time camper. Camp Quest, the secular summer camp, is a place for fun, friends, and freethought for kids ages 8-17. They provide a traditional sleep-away summer camp experience with a wide range of activities including sports, crafts, games, swimming, and campfires. In addition to traditional summer camp activities, Camp Quest offers educational activities focused on critical thinking, ethics, scientific inquiry, philosophy, and comparative religion. Camp Quest is open to all children and teenagers, but it is particularly geared towards building a community for children from atheist, agnostic, humanist and other freethinking families. Their goal is to provide a place where children can explore their developing worldviews, ask questions, and make friends in an environment that is supportive of critical thinking and skepticism.
