Finally! The McCartney guys add their 2 cents on a Lennon album. Yes, we've done this occasionally but fear not Paul is mentioned a few times in this episode. Andy and Tom recorded this shortly after the Chicago Fest. We are a bit late to the "Mind Games" hype reviews but we hope you enjoy our take. Andy discusses the Cube, Tom discusses aspects of the Blu-Ray discs and the "Mind Games" associated with the entire set. Now that the dust is settling on this release - how do you feel it stacks up among the previous Lennon releases? A winner of a set. Well Done Sean and Company! Andy and Tom.
We had an almost full panel (Ken Michaels was with us in spirit) as we played a rousing game of "Wrack Our Brains" live at the Chicago Fest for Beatles Fans! Listen as we took YOUR questions, both those you submitted in advance and some from the audience. talkmoretalk.com talkmoresolotalk@gmail.com @talkmoretalk1 https://www.facebook.com/talkmoretalkvideocast https://www.youtube.com/c/TalkMoreTalkASoloBeatlesVideocast
Hi All! It's been a minute but we've been busy as ever and it's summer! But we are back and happy to share with you our very latest episode! Recorded Live at the Chicago Fest this was our panel discussion on "Give My Regards To Broad Street" at 40: A Re-Evaluation." We had a multimedia presentation with music and video (which we've re-edited into the episode for better listening). Also joining us for this discussion is Fest Guest and Resident Musician Scott Erickson. The audio is good and we had great Q and A's from the audience! Good to be back and we hope you enjoy it! Andy and Tom
In this episode of "Seeing Them Live," Charles welcomes guest Andy to share memorable concert stories. Andy discusses his extensive collection of concert ticket stubs, mentioning that he has about 350 concert stubs and over 125 stubs from other events. The conversation takes a nostalgic turn as they reminisce about concerts they attended together since seventh grade.Charles asks Andy about his first concert, and Andy's unique response involves distinguishing between tickets with stubs and those without. He reflects on his early concert experiences, particularly at Chicago Fest, where he saw acts like the Greg Kihn Band and the Joe Perry Project. The discussion delves into the significance of ticket stubs as memory triggers, providing insight into the concerts and events they attended. The conversation also touches on the value of concert tickets as collectibles. Andy shares that some of his Grateful Dead tickets from the 1980s are now worth more as collectibles than the original ticket prices. The mention of different venues and festivals like Chicago Fest sparks memories of specific shows and experiences, including encounters with iconic musicians like Muddy Waters. The conversation transitions to discussing the unique aspects of certain concerts, such as the legendary "wall of sound" designed by Owsley Bear Stanley for the Grateful Dead. Andy explains that, while he didn't witness the wall of sound, it was a significant part of the band's history. The discussion also covers social protocols at concerts, including designated areas for different groups of fans, such as the "deaf zone" for those going deaf and the presence of spinners (dancers). As the episode progresses, the hosts explore Andy's decision to swear off heavy metal concerts and share anecdotes from specific shows, both positive and challenging. The episode concludes with a brief mention of the Ticket Stub Museum, a concept introduced by the hosts, and the idea of incorporating personal stories or notations for each ticket in the museum. They express enthusiasm for the tangible and sentimental value of physical ticket stubs in contrast to digital ticketing.Bands Mentioned: Almond Brothers, Bob Dylan, Bob Weir, Grateful Dead, Greg Kihn Band, Iggy Pop, Jane's Addiction, Jason and the Scorchers, Jerry Garcia Band, Jethro Tull, Joe Perry Project, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Neil Young, Phil Lesh, Ramones, REM, Santana, Slayer, Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Moody Blues, Vulgar Boatmen.Venues Mentioned: Alpine Valley (mentioned in connection with Iron Maiden), Champaign (general reference), Chicago Fest, Chicago Theater, International Amphitheater (mentioned in connection with Iron Maiden and Judas Priest), Las Vegas (mentioned in connection with Bobby Weir), Mabel's (venue in Champaign, mentioned in connection with Otis and the Elevators), Salt Shed (King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard concert), Soldier Field (mentioned in connection with Chicago Fest with Stevie Ray Vaughan), UIC Pavilion. George Harrison's journey as a songwriter began later than his other bandmates. After delivering his first self-penned track for the band's 2nd album, he had to rely on a Lennon/McCartney song for the 3rd, and a Carl Perkins cover on the 4th. But by the time of the Help! album, he had 2 on the table, and found his abilities starting to really grow. With "I Need You," he drops the dour, bitter persona he is sometimes known for to deliver an open, honest, vulnerable track that's economical in length, has some gorgeous key changes, and features the band starting to stretch in terms of trying new sounds in the studio. George plays rhythm guitar on a nylon string acoustic, Ringo plays percussion on the back of a guitar, John (?!?!) delivers the back beat on the snare drum, while Paul delivers a really interesting bass part that eschews the normal root note bass mentality. The band aren't afraid to venture into new territory, and George seems unafraid to show his actual vulnerability and own real life turmoil, which all coalesces into a track that's better than people remember. This week, we're thrilled to welcome back the Queen of Beatles media, Kit O'Toole! Fresh from speaking on a whopping 7 panels at the Chicago Fest for Beatles Fans, we chat with Kit about her upcoming course on the British Invasion at Monmouth University (sign up here), the legacy of the Help! film and album, George's growth as a writer, memories of cds and cassettes, and so much more! Jon (remotely) and I are joined by Queen of All Beatles Media Kit O'Toole, Ken Womack, and an audience of tens at the Fest for Beatles fans to close out the podcast portion of the 2022 Chicago Fest. Our topic: Mal Evans in 1975. Mal appeared at the 1975 Fest (second on the bill to Sid Bernstein), worked on (and more or less completed) the draft of his book, produced Joey Molland's new band Natural Gas and appeared a couple of times on Cal State Northridge radio to start his promotional tour. (Recorded Sunday, August 14, 2:30 at the Fest for Beatles Fans, Chicago Illinois).
A special one this week. Our first ever crossover episode with two other excellent podcasts/videocasts. This week, Andy is joined by Kit O'Toole (Author, Lecturer, Podcaster,) and co-host of Talk More Talk: A Solo Beatles Videocast and Ed Chen (Co-Host) of When They Was Fab podcast. The three amigos were all at the Chicago Fest and decided to record one together. We recorded this on Saturday 8/13/22. Our panel was chosen for the Fest to represent Beatles-related podcasters. (Yes, I wish it could've been all about Paul but concessions had to be made!) We discussed the evolution of Beatles documentaries bookended by Let It Be (1970) and Get Back (2021) and various documentaries (official and otherwise) that fall between this time period. Specifically, the conversation centers around what documentary each co-host found as they started or began their musical discovery of The Beatles. Missing the other leg Tom on this one but in 2023 the 2Legs will be at both fests to record and go live (hopefully). Thank you Kit and Ed, AN-
Bonus episode! Kit O'Toole (Queen of All Beatles Media), Andy Nicholes (2Legs) and I sit for a preview of our panels, podcasts and presentations at the 2022 Chicago "Fest for Beatles Fans". Also, the news so we don't get too far behind when our regular programming continues!
Hi 2Legs Faithful! This time we focus on an episode that is not 100% Paul centric but Beatles focused. Beatles Merchandising was BIG business in the 1960s. The American Company SELTAEB produced many between 1964-1966 when the marketplace for this merchandise (dolls, "Flip Your Wig Game, Beatles Turntable) etc. NEMS (Northern End Music Stores) was Brian Epstein's family company and the record store was originally located in Whitechapel, City Centre, Liverpool. This week on 2Legs we are joined by Terry Crain who wrote the book "NEMS and the Business of Selling Beatles Merchandise in the US between 1964-1966". Terry was recently featured as a guest author panel at the NY/NJ Fest and will be appearing at the Chicago Fest in August as well. Terry gives us an overview of this topic, how he met collectors across the USA who kept museums in their homes of these products. They are shown on display in this episode and photographs can be found in Terry's wonderful book. Here is the link: NEMS & Beatles Merchandising 1964-1966 Terry is a wealth of knowledge in this field that gets overlooked and we thank him for his appearance on 2Legs

In anticipation of the Aug. 9-11 Chicago Fest for Beatles Fans, Lanea Stagg, author of The Recipe Records Series and Jude Southerland Kessler, author of The John Lennon Series, sit down with Tom Frangione of Sirius XM's Beatles Channel. For years, Frangione has been the host of the Fest for Beatles Fans Trivia Contest and Name that Tune Contest, but in recent years he has become the official Emcee for the Fest and assists founders, Mark and Carol Lapidos, with the many aspects of the 3-day festival. Frangione discusses with Kessler and Stagg the distinguished Guest Speakers for the upcoming weekend, including Beatles Guru, Mark Lewisohn; iconic drummer (for John Lennon, George Harrison and YES), Alan White, and the former head of Apple Records, U.S. and author of the best-seller, The Roof, (documenting details of The Beatles' rooftop concert at which he was present), Ken Mansfield. But since the Fest isn't just a symposium, Frangione also highlights many of the other fun events for the upcoming weekend at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare in Chicago. He touches on the Saturday night concert with 3 members of Wings, the performance of Jeremy Clyde (of Chad and Jeremy), the art contest, and exciting events in the Faboratory. Kessler and Stagg also talk with Frangione about his weekly radio show on Sirius XM's Beatles Channel, the "Fab Forum" with Dennis Elsas and Bill Flanagan. Being part of the ONLY live radio show on The Beatles Channel, Frangione shares some of the most exciting highlights of the past year or so, including interviews with Julian Lennon, Paul McCartney, and Ringo Starr. And he also talks about some of the most intriguing articles he's penned recently for Bill King's respected Beatles journal, Beatlefan magazine. This episode is a great guide to the upcoming Fest for Beatles Fans as well as a wonderful intro for listeners to Sirius XM's Beatles offerings. Frangione is witty and tons of fun. Don't miss this great episode!

Booth One's Frank Tourangeau and his husband, filmmaker Dan Pal, who serves as Booth One's film correspondent, have just returned from a trip to the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and have much to report! They have been going to film festivals for many years, including several trips to Telluride, Sundance, Toronto, and our very own Chicago Fest. The Chicago Film Festival is happening from October 10 through October 21 at the AMC River East. They also share secrets about how to have a Booth One experience at a festival! Let's cut to the chase. Dan and Frank both LOVED a movie called Roma, written and directed by Alfonso Cuaron, which won the prestigious Golden Lion award at the Venice Film Festival. A story about a domestic worker in Mexico City working for an upper middle-class family, it is said to be the most personal work of Cuaron's career. And also his best. It has a 98% Rotten Tomatoes rating. Dan, who says it's the best film he's seen this year, thinks it is a shoe-in for Best Foreign Film and also has a chance to win Best Picture. The actress playing the housekeeper has never been in a movie before. So many reasons we can't wait to see it! Frank and Dan saw 14 films in 5 days. The most thrilling thing for them is getting to see movies before anyone else does. Every director was there and did a Q & A. Lots of big time actors too. They shared their reviews and impressions about all the movies they saw, including: Ben is Back, directed by Peter Hedges and starring Julia Roberts & Lucas Hedges. Vox Lux starring Natalie Portman and Jude Law. (They did not like it.) If Beale Street Could Talk, based on a James Baldwin novel, adapted and directed by Oscar winner Barry Jenkins, made its world premiere at Toronto. Dan and Frank say it is an absolute stand-out. Very powerful and more dialogue driven than Moonlight. The score by Nicolas Britell is "spectacular!" One of the stars, Chicago actress Kiki Lane, was in Booth One favorite Byhalia, Mississippi and part of the ensemble of Definition Theatre Company. We are so excited for you. Go Kiki, go! While they weren't able to score tickets to A Star is Born, here's a fun photo of the stars in Toronto: Gary announces that sadly, the wonderful show public access television show, Theater Talk, has ended after 25 years. Because its station wanted to take over editorial control. :( And just after it won an Emmy award! Everyone who's anyone has appeared on Susan Haskins' great interview show, which we think has a lot in common with Booth One. Its last season was distributed to more than a hundred public television stations nationwide. Gary talks about an episode featuring James Grissom, an author who has written a great book called Follies of God: Tennessee Williams and the Women of the Fog, which is based on his many, many hours of conversation with the playwright about his close relationships with a number of women who influenced him. Other films that are discussed in this episode: The Hummingbird Project starring Jesse Eisenberg The Front Runner with Hugh Jackman as politician Gary Hart Hotel Mumbai featuring Dev Patel and Armie Hammer. This American-Australian thriller was clearly Frank and Dan's front-running favorite. Gary and Frank attended opening night of Indecent at Victory Gardens Theatre, the Paula Vogal play with music, directed by local favorite Gary Griffin. Though they had a few reservations about the production, it's recommended as a piece of theatrical ingenuity and depth. And the Running now through November 4. Kiss of Death Andre Blay, who revolutionized the film industry by introducing the first consumer grade full-length movies on videocassette. His Magnetic Video Corporation created the Video Club of America where subscribers could buy a movie for about half the going retail price in stores. By 1987, home video was generating more revenue than movie-theater ticket sales. Mr. Blay was 81. Full Obit here.
Ever wonder what munching on Fried Grasshoppers tastes like? How about having water Jelly for dessert? How about savoring Split Duck Face all the while watching Taiko drummers, Lao and Samoan dancers? These are just a few of the dynamic plates and dance troupes that will be offered at Strange Foods Festival 2. The festival will be held at the beautiful Stan Mansion. Last year's fest attracted 500 people sampling strange dishes from Chicago's local restaurants. Featured items were steamed brain in banana leaves, sticky rice stuffed then grilled in a bamboo stalk for dessert, black corn fungus and eyeball tacos, bulls testicles and many more. The title Strange Foods may get guests to look the other way but when in actuality the term strange only applies to those that aren't accustom to it. What is strange in America, may actually be a delicacy in other nations. The Festival will educate people on dishes that may look unfamiliar with unusual ingredients but can be very tasty if executed right. Last years cuisine ranged from Syrian, Thai, Laotian, Mexican, Indian, Vietnamese, Japanese and Chinese. We had some hiccups but will definately learn from it. We appreciate all that attended and promised this year it's all about paying attention to details and curating dishes so that no vendor space is wasted. The same brain child from last years event will be organizing this fest but this time he will be partnering up with Dew Suriyawan(Thai Food Festival co- Founder and Owner of Immm Rice and Beyond and Spoon). There will be returning vendors with new dishes and new vendors such as Kei Go Lanee(Oaxaca), Seafood on the Tables(Cajun), Sweet Rice(Thai), Ninjafoods(Laos), Bydamao(Chengdu), Mandi Noor(Yemen), Suchi(Japanese) and many more. Early bird tickets will be starting at $45 and general admission topping at $55. The ticket price will include unlimited drinks and food tasting from 15+ restaurants, photo booth provided by defining78.com. Free parking a block away at Darwin Elementary School. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Feed My Starving Children Foundation. With your help we fed 5k hungry kids last year. Find us on Facebook Strange Foods Chicago Festival and Instagram @strangefoodschicagofestival for photos from last year and future updates.
