Here is this week's lineup of questions hohmadw1978 In looking at our 2023 defense, which position group do you and Nate see as the strength of the defense for next year? mrmk5110 Ryan wrote a great article about Kaden Saunders the other day, and in it Kaden talked about some of the growing pains he had in his first year and some of the adjustments he had to make. For all of the '22 Freshmen who didn't have an on field impact during 2022 (such as Saunders, Kaleb Artis, etc.), who can you tell has been making some early progress/impact through the February workouts? mrmk5110 PSU's Basketball lineup will look a lot different next season. Which of the current freshman do you see most likely to step up for them next season based on what we have seen so far? LeFennecFox Is the WR room on the verge of a RB room of 2022 path? Where we had a really deep / crowded room and then suddenly older guys who aren't starting leave and it hollows out (for good or bad).  John D Football: During the February "dead period," can you give us insight into what the day-to-day life is like for coaches in this period before spring ball? i.e. Are they prepping with advanced scouting for '23? Are they reviewing tape from '22? Are they tinkering with schemes based on projections with new personnel? Thanks! Any word on how Demetrius Lilley is developing behind the scenes? How about Jameel Brown? It was awesome seeing him get some run against Illinois in the first half.  Poncho570 With kids starting to pick their jersey numbers, who's your pick to dawn the #0 jersey now that Sutherland is moving on? "Downtown Vancouver New Seasons takes shape Exterior walls are rapidly rising at the site of the New Seasons Market, planned to open next fall at the corner of Main and West 15th streets in Vancouver, near Mill Plain Boulevard. The grocery store will offer a variety of fresh food and ready-to-eat items and will fulfill the city's 20-year quest to build a supermarket in downtown Vancouver. What exactly is critical race theory? The answer to that question appears to have eluded many, as controversies over racial diversity trainings and curricula have swept the nation in recent months. Often compared by critics to actual racism, CRT is a school of thought that generally focuses on how power structures and institutions impact racial minorities. According to Encyclopedia Britannica, the first annual CRT workshop took place in 1989 but its origins go back as far as the mid-20th century with the development of a more general precursor known as critical theory. Advocates of these ideas view the world through the lens of power relationships and societal structures rather than individuals. The movement itself came in reaction to the perceived failures of classical liberalism in the 19th and 20th centuries. Race, according to this view, is a relatively recent social construct that is weaponized by dominant groups to oppress others. While institutions have been mulling these ideas for years, the aftermath of George Floyd's death seemed to amplify its influence across the country. A so-called "racial reckoning" has seen the propagation of various ideas that are often associated with CRT. Certain buzzwords like "systemic racism" or "implicit bias" have emerged in school districts' diversity statements, corporate trainings, educational materials, and government agencies. When will the curtains rise again—and will the tourists return when Broadway does? Can Zoom ever approximate a live theater experience? If the NBA and other leagues resume their seasons minus the fans, can Broadway do the same? What long-term impact will this crisis have on an industry already operating on the thinnest of margins? The Producer's Perspective Podcast with Ken Davenport

Sheryl Kaller is a theatrical director. She has Broadway credits that include Mothers and Sons and Next Fall by Geoffrey Nauffts, for which she was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Director. She has directed at many theatres including Roundabout Theatre Company, Lincoln Center Theater, The New Group, Pasadena Playhouse, Primary Stages, Williamstown Theatre Festival, American Conservatory Theater, New York Stage and Film, Geffen Playhouse, Philadelphia Theatre Company, and Naked Angels. She told me her story and gave me her perspective on all things including: What Bob Fosse “fought for” in his direction, and how that inspired her. How she never felt like a female Director while she was in school . . . but only when she got into the business, and how that has changed (or not) since then. The day she got scolded by an Actor for being too prepared.  And how that has affected her style since. How she got back into the business after deciding to take time off to raise her family (and how that made her a better and more successful Director). The process of pitching herself for a job . . . what she says to playwrights and Producers in order to earn their trust. What is happening in the BIZ Membership is HAPPENING Alumni group calls Ecourses Coaching calls What is happening in the collective is happening in the individual I speak to the community and I am speaking to myself TRUST – BIG PICTURE – MARATHON NOT A SPRINT How to “hold the container” Jessica talking about “our job is to be the container” Present, available, confident – even as our kids are making mistakes I got you – I am unconditional Our response matters Who we be comes before what we do We can handle it Everything will be ok, or not, either way, we stand by our kids We trust that they can handle what life gives them, and we support them inside of that (the world's consequences, etc) What to do becomes more clear when we practice being in the moment, vs in our emo/fear Learn how to recognize we are there when we are there Practice being with our overwhelm without letting it takes us over (observers) Simple but not easy!!! Takes time!! What we are trying to do is REWIRE the brain (Tina Bryson show 126) Be witness to the presence of the emotional freight train, but let it idle My book!!! Next Fall!!!  WOOHOO Our kids make mistakes Lagging skills/ impulse/ brain development – DON'T BE SURPRISED BY IT Cause and effect Pushing boundaries to know where they are and who YOU are in the process Making judgements about themselves and their peeps Trust? Safety? Dependability? Can they handle this??? BUT WHAT DO WE DO??? Alfie Kohn, Unconditional Parenting – “I am not going to sit here and pretend that I have all the answers to all of your problems. I don't know you or your families…” What are the outcomes that you want? What are the skills that you are hoping that your adult child will one day embody? What are the skills your child is showing you (through behavior) that they are missing? What is a solution to the challenge that will help them learn those skills? Is there something to “make right”? How can you say less and listen more??? Remember – finding solutions to problems, including a “plan for next time” or a “plan to fix the mistake/make things right,” finding solutions are always consequences – HOWEVER consequences that we impose on our children are NOT always a solution to problems. WHAT DO WE DO often is a request for “what do we do to them?” Kids do better when they feel better. – Jane Nelsen Kids want to succeed, they don't always know how. – Ross Greene A Misbehaving child is a discouraged child. – Rudolf Dreikurs Humans are always moving towards a sense of belonging and significance, am I connected? Do I matter? – from Aderian Theory The most powerful tool you have for influencing behavior is the relationship that you nurture with your child. Choosing into the work of Joyful Courage, which really means being willing to grow and practice awareness, being present to your child and your experience, and hold space for your kids, no matter how they are showing up, THIS will nurture and preserve relationship. So – what do you think? Does this make sense to you?? Do you have thoughts about this? Come join the community discussion over in Live and Love with Joyful Courage. This is a closed FB group for listeners and parents that appreciate this conversation and are committed to learning and supporting each other on the journey. Thank you so much for listening today – super DUPER appreciate all you moms and dads out there doing the work of making the world a better place through showing up well for your children!! I will be back next week with Liz Blackwell-Moore talking about teens and drugs – GAH!!!  I know – it's scary, but listen anyways because she is brilliant and the conversation is helpful!!
