in today's episode I finish my conversation with Dawn Thompson, the founder of birthify. We talk about the dramatic difference between *the education you might get in a prenatal class run by a hospital and *the education that Dawn is advocating for, with very specific instances of how these two differ. Ultimately the goal is not to give you the exact birth you want, because that's impossible to promise, but to try to give you the most empowered birth you can get.To see Dawn's work at birthify: https://birthify.net/Jen Hamilton inspiring work on nursing on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/_jen_hamilton_/Head's Up Documentary: https://www.informedpregnancy.tv/products/heads-up-a-breech-birth-documentaryThe Friedman curvehttps://www.ajog.org/article/S0002-9378(22)02265-7/fulltexthttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3655692/ARRIVE trialhttps://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6821557/Breech Birthhttps://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/01443610600797186https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7196223/https://www.acog.org/clinical/clinical-guidance/committee-opinion/articles/2018/08/mode-of-term-singleton-breech-delivery

Life is a series of ups and down. Everybody is walking in their journey and making the best out of it. However, circumstances can sometimes make people think that it is a sin even to dare to dream. In this episode of Pursuit of Relentless, Alaina is joined by Dawn Thompson, founder of You're Enough University, who shares her secret to living. Dawn believes when you give, life somehow gives it back tenfold. She also said that if there's a dream that one wants, one has to figure out how to make that happen, undergo a mindset change, and get rid of old money stories. She also shares that when you start believing, you will start seeing these things happening without you knowing how. There's more to learn about life in this episode. So if you want to learn more about how her giving lifestyle impacted her life, tune in and enjoy! Here's what to look out for in this episode: · Dawn's story · What is Operation Spa Kids? · The secret to living · Her purpose, without a shadow of a doubt · What's the difference between you and somebody who has what you want? About Dawn Thompson: She has owned and operated Spa Bella, Inc. for almost three decades. She also started a non-profit 18 years ago called Operation Spa Kids Adopt-A-Box. This organization helps children and their family members who are in need. It started as just hygiene items and has now grown by providing clothing, food & furnishings. From helping people in the beauty and spa industries to helping those in need, this can itself be considered satisfying. However, Dawn was not fulfilled and happy with herself, which led her down a very dark path where she hit "rock bottom." During that dark time, she asked God to help her change her ways and began to have a relationship with Him. About a decade ago, she dove deep into self-development. She has been blessed to work with some of the world's best such as Jack Canfield, Tony Robbins, Sean Stephenson, and Tinnie McCarty. She has learned so much about herself and how to overcome very challenging obstacles. With all the knowledge she has gained, the relationship she built with God, and her giving heart, she didn't want just to help herself. Instead, she is very determined and passionate about helping people know their worth because, for so long, she didn't know her own. So, she started The You're Enough® Movement to empower people around the world to know: They Are Loved They Matter They Have A Purpose! Dawn has since taken it a step further, and so began The You're Enough® University. There are many different ways to learn at the University. There you will find out how to reach your true potential and become the best version of yourself because Through the Cross, You're Enough®. Find Dawn on . . . Episode 29 Sitars and Synthesizers   Playlist Vincent Bell With Orchestra, “Quiet Village,” from Pop Goes The Electric Sitar (1967 Decca). The Coral Electric Sitar with chorus and orchestra. Coral electric sitar, Vinnie Bell (its inventor). AKA Vincent Gambella, a popular session player, primarily on guitar. Big Jim Sullivan, “Flower Power,” from Sitar Beat (1967 Mercury). Sitar and electric guitar, Jim Sullivan. Ultimate Spinach, “Your Head is Reeling,” from Ultimate Spinach (1968 MGM). Vocals, Lead Guitar, Guitar Feedback, Sitar [Electric], Geoffrey Winthrop. A very brief introduction to this longer track, featuring the Coral Electric Sitar. Enoch Light And The Light Brigade, “Marrakesh Express,” from ‎Permissive Polyphonics (1970 Project 3 Total Sound). Coral Electric Sitar, Vinnie Bell; Moog Modular Synthesizer, Dick Hyman; Electric Alto Sax, Arnie Lawrence; Bass, Julie Ruggiero; Drums, Billy LaVorgna. Ami Dang, “Conch and Crow” from Parted Plains (2019 Leaving Records). Sitar, electronics, audio processing, voice, Ami Dang. Ami Dang, “Souterrain” from Parted Plains (2019 Leaving Records). Sitar, electronics, audio processing, voice, Ami Dang. Ami Dang, “Simplicity Mind Tool” from Meditations Mixtape Vol.1 (2020 Leaving Records). Sitar, electronics, audio processing, voice, Ami Dang. Ananda Shankar, “Dance Indra,” from Ananda Shankar (1970 Reprise). Ananda Shankar is not related to Ravi Shankar, the great classical Indian sitar master. Sitar, Ananda Shankar; Keyboards, Moog Modular Synthesizer, Paul Lewinson; Tabla, Pranish Khan; Drums, Joe Pollard, Michael Botts; Bass, Jerry Scheff, Mark Tulin; Guitar, Dick Rosmini, Drake Levin. Trivia, produced by James Lowe and included Mark Tulin on bass, both members of the Electric Prunes from the late Sixties. Paul Lewison was playing a Moog owned by producer Alex Hassilev. Shankar wanted to combine Western and Indian music into a “new form” as he called it. Melodious, touching, combining modern electronics and traditional sitar. I think he succeeded. I have included two striking examples that stray a bit from the pop rock flavor of many of the tracks. Ananda Shankar, “Raghupati,” from Ananda Shankar (1970 Reprise). Sitar, Ananda Shankar; Keyboards, Moog Modular Synthesizer, Paul Lewinson; Tabla, Pranish Khan; Drums, Joe Pollard, Michael Botts; Bass, Jerry Scheff, Mark Tulin; Guitar, Dick Rosmini, Drake Levin. Okko Bekker, “East Indian Traffic,” Sitar & Electronics (1970 BASF). Sitar, Moog Modular Synthesizer, Tabla, Okko Bekker; Moog Modular Synthesizer, Simon Alcott (alias of British pop pianist Les Humphries); Flute, Herb Geller; Guitar, Peter Haesslein. Bekker is a Dutch sitarist, keyboardist, and producer. Indian influenced psychedelic music from the days of the Moog Modular, recorded in Germany. This came several years after the Beatles and Stones experimented with the sitar but was an early album to combine the sitar with a Moog modular synthesizer. I have no idea where he learned sitar but I do know whose Moog he used for this recording. The producer Simon Alcott had purchased some Moog modular units in 1970. Alcott is also the alias of Les Humphries. Most of the album consists of cover tunes of rock songs, such as The Beatles. I chose one of bolder Moog tunes. Okko Bekker, “Delphin, Makarasana,” from Yoga Für Millionen (1978? Maritim). A German album of yoga instruction with musical soloist Bekker playing Sitar, Tabla, Moog Synthesizer, Flute, and Percussion. The narrator is Ulrich Brockmann. Amon Duul II, “Wie Der Wind Am Ende Einer Strasse” from Wolf City (1972 United Artists). Bass, Lothar Meid; Drums, D. Secundus Fichelscher; Electric Guitar, John Weinzieri; Sitar, Al Sri Al Gromer; Tabla, Pandit Shankar; Tambura, Liz van Neienhoff; Organ, Synthesizer, Falk-U Rogner; Soprano Saxophone, Olaf Kübler; Timpani, Peter Leopold; Violin, Chris Karrer Paul Heyda. Yves Hayat, “Path to Ascension” from Conversation Between the East and The West (1976 DeWolfe). Composer, sitar, guitars, bass, synthesizers, Yves Hayat; keyboards, vocals, Diane Crisanti. Produced as a record for broadcast libraries. Cosmology, “Out of the Kiva,” from Cosmology (1977 Vanguard). Sitar, congas, percussion, Collin Walcott; Vocals, Percussion; Dawn Thompson; Acoustic Bass, Electric Bass, Rick Kilburn; Drums, Bells, Bob Jospé; Fender Rhodes, Piano, Oberheim Synthesizer, Armen Donelian; Trombone, Dave Glenn; Trumpet, Flugelhorn, Tin Whistle, Mayan Flute, Flageolet, John D'earth. Clearlight, “Full Moon Raga,” from Visions (1978 Polydor). Bass, Philippe Melkonian; Grand Piano, ARP Odyssey, Gong, Cyrille Verdeaux; Sitar, Patrick Depaumanou; Minimoog, Luc Plouton; Tabla, Mohamed Taha; Drums, Percussion, Jacky Bouladoux; Electric Guitar, Bottleneck Cosmique, Christian Boule; Flute, Tenor Saxophone, Soprano Saxophone, Didier Malherbe; Violin, Bass Violin, Didier Lockwood; Vocals, Gérard Aumont, Gérard Gustin. The fourth album from this French progressive rock group headed by Cyrille Verdeaux on keyboards and ARP Odyssey. I have two recordings of this album. The original from 1978 had much less synthesizer. In 1992 they remixed the LP and added more synthesizer and vocals to the tracks. We are hearing the remixed version. Electric Universe and Sitarsonic, “Dub Stanza” from Dub Stanza (2020 Sacred Technology). Electric Universe is an ambient electronic musician who teamed up with sitarist and electronic musician Sitarsonic (Paco Rodriguez) to produce this dub-flavored work. Paco is from Greece. Electric Universe is in Belgium. Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso UFO, “Ziggy Sitar Dust Raga,” from Ziggy Sitar Dust Raga (2003 Important Records). Vocals, Sitar, Cotton Casino; Tambura, Kawabata Makoto; Synthesizer, Higashi Hiroshi; Vocals, Tsuyama Atsushi. A psychedelic, trance-inducing treat from this inventive group of Japanese improvisers.       Thanks to Ami Dang for helping me with this episode. You can explore releases of her music as well as check out her podcast at her website. Track played during the opening: The Folkswingers Featuring Harihar Rao ‎, “Paint it Black,” Sitar Beat (1966 Fontana). Sitar, Harihar Rao; Organ, Electric Piano, Larry Knechtel; Bass, Bill Pittman; Fender Bass, Lyle Ritz; Drums, Hal Blaine; 12-string Electric Guitar, Dennis Budimir; Guitar, Herb Ellis, Howard Roberts, Tommy Tedesco.   Track played during the opening: Lord Sitar, “I Am the Walrus,” from Lord Sitar (1968 Columbia). Sitar, Big Jim Sullivan. Track played behind the Ami Dang interview: Ami Dang, “Ajooni” from Meditations Mixtape Vol.1 (2020 Leaving Records). For those who are suffering today - I feel you. For those who are hating themselves today - I understand. For those who have lost faith in themselves - I've been there and can relate. Some of us went through horrific events as children that reinforced within our young developing minds - we are incapable of greatness. Some of us suffered tremendous loss and defeats along our journey that shook our inner self confidence so much that we convinced ourselves we're not worthy, don't deserve or are incapable of love. Reach inside yourself - kneel down and look eye to eye with the 4, 5, 6, 7 year old version of you. Wrap your arms around them and be the hero in their life and whisper "I love you... I love you... I love you... I love you." Stop hating yourself. Stop beating yourself down, it's a virus and spills over into the lives of others who love you. Who don't judge you. Who don't think you're worthless. Plus, beating ourselves down is unproductive. "But Simeon, I can't stop. I don't know how. I want to stop, I want to be a success, I want to love myself but I CAN'T." - As my friend Joe Cortez IV reminded me - remove the T off of Can't.... then say it again. As my friend Dawn Thompson reminded me "whatever a man think, so shall he be." That which I focus on, I will manifest into reality. That which I consume and ruminate over I will become. Be the hero in your own life. Start by recognizing, then accepting, then surrendering - then focus on gratitude - consciously remind yourself and the universe and God what you are thankful for. "Count your blessings" is more than just a silly childhood saying - it's a powerful real, hack that not only will rewire our mind but, it will attract more abundance into our life because we are being thankful for what we have. It strengthens us. Allow me to recommend two books that have made a profound impact on my mental outlook: Unf*ck Yourself by Gary John Bishop and A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. These two books will provide intense personal awareness, if you are willing, if you allow it. Plus, they are easy to digest and follow along. For those of you suffering today, my heart goes out to you. But I urge you to love yourself, accept yourself and continue to fight like hell for your greatness. *PS, I do believe there is a time and a place for seeking professional mental help. We all need help from time to time, and sometimes that help is in the form of a trained medical professional. Do what's best for you.

To understand human biology we must tackle an important question: how do we look at an organism’s DNA sequence – its genotype – and understand how it produces the organism’s traits and behaviors, or phenotype? Humans share a lot of genes with other organisms like dogs, apes, and even yeast. We have the same genetic toolbox, yet remain very different. These differences can be attributed to gene expression – when genes get turned on or off – that gets rewired over the course of evolution to produce new phenotypes. Dawn Thompson will discuss recent work that investigates how changes in gene expression have given rise to interesting phenotypes such as altered metabolism in cancer cells, and the production of ethanol by yeast (a development which has been fortuitous for baking!). These same principles can be applied to help unlock the secrets of our own evolution. About Midsummer Nights' Science: About Dawn Thompson: Dawn is assistant director of the Broad’s Cell Circuits Program, and group leader in the lab of core member Aviv Regev.

A Full Scale Birth Revolution on Labor Day A massive uprising happened today. Thousands of men, women and children gathered (today, September 3rd, 2012) as part of a national movement. Improving Birth’s “National Rally for Change on Labor Day” was hosted in close to 100 major cities, in all 50 states across the country. One writer coined it as “The largest women’s movement in decades.” Join us live tonight as I speak with Dawn Thompson the woman behind it all.
