Bobby’s Birthday (The NYC Session)   I had some surgery done on my elbow and arm and was out for a few weeks. The dictionary defines soulful as of or expressive of deep feeling or emotion: Soulful House is recognizable by its often very catchy bassline, swooshes, swirls and other synthesized sounds which give the music a bouncy tempo. It often relies heavily on black female vocals or disco samples and has a recognizable tiered structure in which every track has more than one build-up which usually reaches a climax before the process is repeated with the next track. Soulful House music More melodic and often vocal House music. Soulful House has a healthy underground scene, albeit split across the world with popular hot spots being Chicago, New York, London, Brazil, Melbourne and South Africa. It remains fairly underground with a scene similar to the soul and jazz-funk scene in the 70s and 80s. The demographic is predominantly people in their late 20s upwards, with many liking the sound as reminiscent of what they grew up with in the 70s and 80s (i.e. soul, funk, disco and jazz coupled with early 80′s electronic music). Some of the popular artists at the forefront of soulful house are Masters at Work (Little Louie Vega & Kenny “Dope” Gonzales), Dennis Ferrer, Blaze, Barbara Tucker, Kenny Bobien, Stephanie Cooke (US) and in the UK, Joey Negro, Fanatix, The Layabouts, DeepCitySoul, Aphrodisiax, Soul Renegades and Andy Ward among others continue to grow and develop the scene. 2013 May "En Mai fais ce qu'il te plaît!" French Proverb which literally means " In May do what pleases you"..  Today is my birthday and I am stuck at home with a massive head cold.. Thought I would give myself a little present and put together a set JUST FOR ME...  A collection of deep, cookie, eclectic tunes, which I would hate to forget and lose in the dark recesses of my hard drive because they do not fit the strict format of Deep, Soulful, Progressive of this podcast. So here it is, jams I like, sounds I want to be able to access in the distant future, tracks that may not have the vocal hooks I love, yet trigger emotions at a complete different level. Edgy track with an acid tinge.. “Pieces” Flashmob is becoming bigger by the day.. and I love the acapella with the brit accent.. Another edgy track, which may really push your limits. “New York Style” Jerk House Connection French and really good.. I love the NY feel, I love the reggae vocals.. and it stays melodic. “Be Right There”.. Current, modern, hatched beats had to included a bit of Jackin’ House in this set.. “All I Have Is Love” continuing the darker NY feel with a greek remixer Elias Tzikas. “Let It Go” Deep Tech House at its very best.. I wanted a wake up track with a nice groove at this moment in the set.. This came up.. “What you need” now in the back part of the set, introducing a bit a bit of funk and sugar.. “Another Way” another Golf Clap track with Grant Nelson’s giving it a UK feel.. If you have stayed with me so far, you are starting to have fun!! “My Urban Soul”.. Roland Clark, Urban Soul.. Bringing you down but how can I resist… “The Whistle Song” Frankie Knuckles seminal classic gets the Supernova remix treatment. Enjoy, Mr. Retalin The abyssal zone is the abyssopelagic layer or pelagic zone that contains the very deep benthic communities near the bottom of oceans. "Abyss" derives from the Greek word ἄ, meaning bottomless. At depths of 4,000 to 6,000 meters (13,123 to 19,685 feet), this zone remains in perpetual darkness and never receives daylight. It is the deeper part of the midnight zone which starts in the bathypelagic waters above. Its permanent inhabitants (for example, the black swallower, tripod fish, deep-sea anglerfish and the giant squid) are able to withstand the immense pressures of the ocean depths, up to 76 megapascals (11,000 psi).Many abyssal creatures have underslung jaws to sift through the sand to catch food. These regions are also characterized by continuous cold and lack of nutrients. The abyssal zone has temperatures around 2 C to 3 C (35 F to 37 F) through the large majority of its mass. The area below the abyssal zone is the sparsely inhabited Hadal zone. The zone above is the bathyal zone. These three zones belong to the deep-sea realm. Above on the continental platform there are respectively the euphotic and dysphotic zones. The abyssal zone lies partially in the dysphotic and partially in the aphotic zones. (As published in the Manila Standard Today’s June 12th edition)     London-based DJ and producer Mr. Nugget is on his Asian Tour and is hitting Manila venues throughout the week.  On Tuesday night June 8th, he performed at Café Mondial in Pasig at an event titled “A Common Future” organized by Play Tuesdays’ Tollo Bote.  “Last night was fantastic, such a great vibe, and to get everyone dancing can be a big task, especially to music they may not be used to,” says Mr. Nugget about his Café Mondial gig, “but I managed to do it, very pleased.” On Friday night June 11th, he guests at MOVE, part of M Café’s M Sessions.  And on Saturday night June 12th, Mr. Nugget headlines at MUSIC & WINE at Martinis in the Mandarin Oriental playing soulful deep house music to a knowledgeable audience.  “House music is really big in London now, and I’m bringing with me this sound to Manila,” he says with a confident smirk. Mr. Nugget is expected to drop his latest hot release “A Little Fire” featuring vocalist Natasha Watts (now out on Barcoda Records) and “Free” featuring Brooke Bailey, a track also remixed by DeepCitySoul that went on to become one of the soulful house gems of 2009, getting played across the globe, and registered in countless DJ's top ten on online house music megastore Traxsource. From warming up sets for the likes of Jojo Flores and Alix Alvarez, Mr. Nugget has gone on to forming his own live band, record label and promotion under the Hot Yoga brand. With an undeniable passion for house music, he has taken inspiration from the likes of MAW, Blaze, Reel People, Osunlade and Joey Negro, coining a sound that’s distinctive and filled with creativity. With his profound DJ sets that take you on a musical journey of unprecedented mixing ability, encapsulating House, Funk, Disco and Broken beat, “Nug” as his friends call him ignites dance floors across the UK and abroad on a regular basis.
