As George Lucas was in his final years at Lucasfilm, he had some projects in the pipeline and on the verge of release, but they never happened. Via new interview highlights with producer Rick McCallum and writer Ronald D. Moore, we learn more about STAR WARS UNDERWORLD, the live-action STAR WARS TV show that had 50-60 fully written scripts ready-to-go, but was eventually abandoned. And Seth Green recently shared info about the fully-produced, but never-released animated comedy series STAR WARS DETOURS. These key creatives discussed their experiences working with Lucas on those shows and why fans will never get the chance to see them. In other news, we review interview clips of Daisy Ridley and screenwriter Stephen Knight talking about the ever-in-development “New Jedi Order” film featuring Rey. Plus, we discuss potential STAR WARS animated projects that may be in the works, “Star Wars in Pop Culture” features Mark Hamill on “Space Ghost Coast-to-Coast", and we have a huge announcement about the next RFR LIVE event happening later this year. It's one you won't want to miss!

We celebrate May the 4th with a viewing of their least favourite of the Star Wars Films, Episode II: Attack of the Clones. They discuss Hayden Christensen's upcoming appearance in Obi Wan's new show, why Padme's security officer Captain Panaka bowed out of this movie and Rose Byrne's appearance in the film (Joe said the wrong spot that she appeared but was right about her appearance). Joe reveals the genesis of CG Yoda, which actors in this film continued on through the extended Universe and the fake working title for the film. They talk about this being the final Star Wars movie on VHS in North America. They also discuss Hayden Christensen's early career including a Canadian drama that birthed a number of big careers as well as Hayden's relationship with Star Wars so many years after doing the movies. Joe makes a suggestion to improve the feasability of the relationship between Anakin and Padme by aging him up in the first movie. We give a brief history of Coruscant and look forward to the new Star Wars content, including Star Wars: Detours. Todd continues to be impressed by Joe's ability to identify Star Wars Characters. Joe tries to explain away Anakin's cadence in the film and lists a number of actors who were seen for the role, including some who are no longer with us. Joe reveals the cameos in the cantina scene and the fact that this movie had a cowriter and explains grooming to Todd and compares it to what happens in the movie. They criticize Lucas' work as a writer of romance and Joe shares his experience with cannabis. Joe explains the monk-like rules of the Jedi. They rank this film in the Skywalker Saga and Todd forgets how the clones work. They dig into the romantic scenes in the film. Joe pines for the Star Wars Sound Effect Library and talks about a creature from earlier in the film that can be found in the asteroid field. Todd questions the morality of making clones just to send them to die. Joe fills in the missing story pieces that would have better explained Anakin's journey towards the dark side in this film. The guys have a theory about one of Padme's costumes. Joe discusses the origins of Mace Windu's Purple light saber, both in the story and in real life and points out a subtle, yet gruesome moment of the Jedi battle scene. They connect Dooku and Grand Moff Tarkin through the Hammer Horror universe. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ DISCORD - https://discord.gg/a6UEWh9zft PODCAST - https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/miscast-commentary/id1145697204 WEBSITE - http://www.miscastcommentary.com/ TWITTER - https://twitter.com/miscastpodcast FACEBOOK - https://www.facebook.com/miscastcommentary TEEPUBLIC - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/miscast-commentary?ref_id=7636 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Follow Joe! Music composer and arranger Michael A. Levine joins Tim to talk about one of his most famous works, one that you are no doubt familiar with, which came early in his career and has stood the test of time. While Michael has won his share of awards for comprehensive and high-level works of music, the subject to this discussion is the story behind an iconic jingle he crated for a familiar candy bar brand: Kit Kat’s “Gimme a break” jingle and ad campaign. https://traffic.libsyn.com/secure/shapingopinion/Kit_Kat_Jingle_auphonic.mp3 So, let’s talk about some of Michael A. Levine’s accomplishments. He scored the hit series called Siren, writing the project’s memorable work, “Siren Song.” He recorded his song “Running” with legendary vocalist Roberta Flack for the feature film 3100. He’s won awards for TV shows like “Cold Case” and “Close to Home.” He scored the Lego DC Supergirls film “Brain Drain,” and another yet to be released Star Wars parody that is produced by George Lucas. That film is called “Star Wars Detours.” He’s worked on such films as “Dunkirk,” “The Simpsons Movie,” “Batman: The Dark Night,” and numerous other projects. Yet it’s something he did early in his career that may have had the most lasting impression on the world. He composed the classic advertising jingle for the Kit Kat candy bar. Michael also composed the theme for Scrat, the sabertooth squirrel featured in the Ice Age shorts. Levine provided additional music and violin on a number of Hans Zimmer scores, including Dunkirk, The Simpsons Movie, Batman: The Dark Knight, Megamind, and Rango. Michael's choir arrangement of Spider Pig was conducted by Hans at the Hollywood Bowl in 2015. Levine’s concert music includes Anthem, performed by piano virtuoso Lang Lang in 2014 in Beijing and, Double Crossings, an album of duets with percussionist great Evelyn Glennie on mallets and Michael on electric violin. Michael began his career in advertising where he composed the classic Kit Kat candy bar “Gimme a Break” jingle. Hosts Mat Bradley-Tschirgi, William Thrasher, and special guest Eric McEver (writer and director of Paleonaut) discuss Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. They talk to Eric about how his love of Godzilla movies led him to Japan, how hard Godzilla films are to collect, and his early short film The Early Years of Captain Jack Sparrow. One of a gaggle of Disney films based on their theme park attractions (The Country Bears, The Haunted Mansion), this one was so successful is spawned a pirate's bounty worth of sequels. Elizabeth Swan (Keira Knightley) is in love with blacksmith Will Turner (Orlando Bloom). However, she's engaged to James Norrington (Jack Davenport). Her stolen skull emblazoned medallion has hidden powers that intrigue both scalawag pirate Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and haughty ghost pirate Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush). Many sword fights and drunken arguments ensue. Far better than any game based on a ride should be, this first Pirates of the Caribbean film combines derring-do with light horror elements in a family friendly package. Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio's screenplay is full of one too many characters, but when the cast is so game who cares? In The Mail Bag: Brayden G from Mineral Wells, Texas writes in: “With the release of the Wonder Woman 1984 photos today it had me thinking of something. I know there's tons of theories of how Steve Trevor might be there alive and or a ghost. Mine isn't really a theory but what if they treated him being back like Diana in the first film. Diana was filled with this sense of wonder and amazement to the world and had Trevor there to guide her through and help her adjust to the world. What if they flipped it in 1984 where Trevor is the one that's shocked and amazed that he's this far in the future and he needs Diana's help. She has been alive this whole time as we know so seeing her take lead and adjust him to the times could be a pretty cool flip on the first film and a little throwback.” In the News: Comcast Officially Puts in $65 Billion Bid for 21st Century Fox, Topping Disney's Current Bid MoviePass Has Reached 3 Million Subscribers, Still Expects to Hit 5 Million Before 2019 A MoviePass Family Plan is on the Way ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp' Box Office Tracking Predicts a $75 Million Opening Weekend Don't Rule Out ‘Twin Peaks' Season 4 Just Yet Could the Abandoned ‘Star Wars Detours' Animated Series Finally Be Getting Released? Today on the show, we're geeking out about Star Wars. I know, what else is new, right? We're joined by Pablo Hidalgo, who is one of the most public faces of the Lucasfilm Story Group - the group responsible for maintaining order and keeping all of the creative ducks in a row within the Star Wars universe. We talk to Pablo about his personal history with Star Wars (hint: it involved many hours of RPGs), how he came to Lucasfilm, and what he does on a day-to-day basis - besides fielding fans' questions and debunking crazy theories online. We also get the inside scoop on whether we might ever see Star Wars Detours or George Lucas's original plans for a sequel trilogy. All of that plus his earliest Star Wars memory, his favorite fan theories, and the many amazing books he's written. And the one thing he'd like to tell every Star Wars fan if given the chance.
This week, it's a good old-fashioned Star Wars geekout with J.W. Rinzler. Aside from maybe George Lucas, there's no one else in the industry who's as steeped in Star Wars history as Rinzler. In this episode, we chat about his unprecedented access behind the curtain, his work on the Making of The Force Awakens book, Star Wars Detours (and other unseen-by-fans stuff), the existence of pre-Special Edition cuts of the original trilogy, George Lucas, fan theories, his short film Riddle of the Black Cat, and Edgar Allan Poe.
