I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Saturday morning, the 29th of August, 2026, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Book of Malachi 3:6:“For I am the Lord, I do not change…” Isn't that amazing? When you think of the world we are living in at the moment, I mean it's changing by the minute and here's another scripture, Numbers 23:19: “God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” A sure thing. Oh yes, that's one thing we can take for granted and of course the Master Himself, Jesus, in Matthew 24:35 said: ”Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.” I want to really encourage you, as I'm encouraging myself today, to start taking God's Holy Word literally. You can count on it. It is for sure. If God has promised you, young lady, that He has a husband for you, you can be sure that husband is coming. Do not make a big mistake and run ahead of God and marry somebody because you think that you're becoming too old. Don't do that. God has got the man for you.I want to say to that young boy at school, who is struggling to get his finals. He's about to sit down and write them anyway, and he doesn't think he's going to pass. You call out to the Lord. The Lord says, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5. Do your best and leave the rest to the Lord. God is faithful! We need to understand that. The only thing that can upset the Lord is our doubt. When we say, ”No Lord, You can't do that. It's too big.” No, don't do that. I can tell you by experience that the Lord that I am serving, the Lord that we are serving, if He says it, He'll do it. He promised me that He'd bring the biggest tent in the world to this farm. He did it. He promised me that He would bring a million people to one place in one day with six weeks to organise it. He did it. He promised me that if I am faithful, He will give me the strength to bring you a message every single morning. We are well over two thousand messages, different scriptures, different illustrations, every single morning without fail thus far. We are pressing towards three thousand Thoughts for Today. I think we should have a big party when that anniversary comes along.Folks, I can't encourage you enough today. Take your eyes off your situation. Put your eyes on Jesus, and He will do the rest. Where does your allegiance lie when faith, comfort, and personal preference pull in different directions? In Episode 959 of The Smith and Rowland Show, Alan Smith examines Christian loyalty, the meaning of allegiance, and the visible commitments that should shape a believer's daily life. I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Thursday morning, the 9th of July, 2026, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Book of Deuteronomy 18:22: “when a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.”Folks, I really want to say to you this morning, and I know men who have got a prophetic ministry, and they are very accurate, and they love the Lord, and you can see it in their conduct. They are men that you can trust, but we must be very careful. The Lord is warning us this morning, not to be misled by a presumptuous prophetic word. I have heard of people who have sold their homes and immigrated to another country because they felt that a prophetic word was spoken over them, only to find when they got to the other side that they had listened to a man who was speaking presumptuously. It was not the word. We really need to test the spirit. That is why it is so important to let the Holy Spirit give you His peace. Now, we go to the Gospel of John 1:44-45. Now this is a prophetic word: “Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote—Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.”Now that is a prophetic word you can believe. “We have found Him…” We need to use the Bible to confirm a prophetic word that has been spoken. If it is not in the Bible, I don't care who it is, you cannot believe it. It must be confirmed through the word of God, and that gives you security, that gives you peace, and that shows you the difference between a prophetic word and a false prophecy. If that word cannot be confirmed with God's Holy Word, do not listen or believe him. So I want to say to you today, don't be afraid, no, not at all. I have had many prophetic words spoken over my life and they have come to pass, but I have also had other words spoken over my life which I have cast aside because they are untrue and my spirit, the Spirit of God in me, does not witness with it. It is very, very important, especially for young people today.If God has not told you what to do, then don't do it. If God gives you a word, and then it is confirmed through somebody, sometimes a stranger, then you know it is not a coincidence, it is God. Have a wonderful day, Jesus bless you and goodbye.

I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Sunday morning, the 5th of July, 2026, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Book of Deuteronomy 17:19: ”And it shall be with him, and he shall read it all the days of his life, that he may learn to fear the Lord his God and be careful to observe all the words of this law and these statutes,…“ Then we go straight to Psalm 119:105: ”Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” We have it all there, the Lord has put it before us. The Israelites wanted a king like all the other nations, and so reluctantly God gave them a king, but the statute was that the king must obey the law of the Lord. The fear of the Lord - that's not to be afraid of God, but it is to respect God, to treat the Lord with reverence, to obey His laws, and then things will go well for him, and you'll see that right through history. When a leader uses God's Holy Word, the Bible, as his compass and direction finder, that man, that woman, will be used mightily of God to lead their people.I think of a school today. The school that opens every morning with prayer and scripture reading, that school is going to go well. I'm telling you folks, I know it. The same thing happens in the business. I've seen it, men are doing it all over the place and woman, they start their day, whether it be a garage where they are fixing motor vehicles, whether it be in a mine, where they are going down underground, before they go down they pray and they read the word of God. On the farm, all my farm workers coming together and hearing the word of God for that day. It brings unity, it brings peace, and it brings joy. What about the home? That's the real place. You see, when we use the word of God at home, it settles all arguments and disputes. In the morning, moms and dads, pray for your children before they go to school, before they go to university, every day.We think of a court of law. When that person is called up in a court of law, he has to put his hand on the Bible, and he's got to say, ”I promise to tell the truth and nothing but the truth, so help me God.” These are statutes that have been put in place so that we might live lives of peace, of prosperity, and of hope, giving Jesus Christ first place every single morning in your life, and you will be amazed at how well things will go!Jesus bless you and have a wonderful day. It is a common perception that scientists are totally objective and impartial in their search for the truth. If a scientist says so, it must be true! Even among themselves leaders of their field are jokingly referred to as the “high priests of science.”But many scientists will willingly admit that they are just as fallible, and just as prone to bias or even dishonesty as anyone else. The 19th century scientist, Charles Babbage - a creationist by the way - did an analytical study of the problem of fraud in science. He found that there are three basic types. Scientists can and do record observations that never took place. A second type of fraud is to ignore those observations that don't fit the average. A third type is called “cooking” - where only the data that fits the expectations is used and the rest discarded. Scientists today are under pressure to resort to any of these forms of fraud to continue to obtain research grants, or maintain status before their peers.All this means that scientists are just as human and prone to the same motivations in their work as the rest of us. Not all scientists are frauds, just as not all car mechanics are dishonest. But science is not some open door to absolute truth. Nor can it judge the truth of God's Holy Word.Matthew 5:37"But let your communication be ‘yea, yea' or ‘nay, nay'; for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil."Prayer: Dear Father, I face many temptations to be "just a little less than honest." Full Transcript Below: The High Standard of Church Leaders By: Emily Rose Massey Bible Reading:“Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness” (James 3:1, ESV). It seems that over the last couple of years, there has been much exposure and shaking in the church regarding leaders who have fallen or gotten caught in scandal and lies. When the news of another pastor’s moral failure makes its way into the public eye, is your first reaction one of sarcasm and jadedness, or does it cause you to weep and hit your knees in prayer? It seems easier to get angry or grow cynical when those in the pulpit fall into grave sin and disappoint those who have attributed much of their spiritual growth from their teaching. Instead of wagging our fingers or shaking our heads in disappointment, it should truly break our hearts when leaders in the church fall. There is a stern warning found in the book of James that should cause us pause and reflect upon the great and weighty responsibility that pastors carry as teachers of God’s Word: “Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness” (James 3:1, ESV). This verse begins a chapter in the book of James that focuses on the importance of the tongue and its ability to either bring encouragement and growth or hostility and destruction. We will all be held accountable for the words we speak, but for those who teach the Bible, there is a higher standard. With a higher standard comes a stronger judgment from God. This should motivate us to pray for teachers, especially those who pastor our own local church. Intersecting Faith & Life: In America (and perhaps even around the world, thanks to television and social media), the gospel of Jesus Christ has become extremely muddied by false teaching full of false gospels, New Age/occult/pagan practices, lying signs and wonders, and distractions from worldly desires that are all leading many to false Christs. For almost half of our marriage, my husband and I were among those believers who were believing lies from the result of the twisting of scripture and emotional, mental, and spiritual manipulation from leaders in ministry whom we trusted. By God’s grace, we were rescued from this deception and now attend a sound and Biblical church that has been such a blessing to our family. Every week, the elders preach the Word of God with such conviction and clarity, and are unashamed about the gospel. Although we finally feel “safe,” we know that these men of God are susceptible to the same temptations as we are, and instead of growing comfortable or letting our guard down, we must fiercely pray for the men in our lives who teach God’s Holy Word because Satan has put a giant target on their backs. The enemy knows how much damage can be done to the Body of Christ if God’s Word is abused or distorted, but the same is true for the carriers of that message; A teacher’s life is held to a higher standard because the Lord uses teachers to help us understand who He is. The weighty responsibility and calling of bringing truth to the sheep of God is one no one should have to bear alone. Let us shoulder Kingdom responsibility with our elders by making it a priority to daily pray for the teachers and pastors who have much influence on our spiritual well-being. In the age we live in, we can know personal details of public figures very quickly and easily. It seems there is always a new Christian leader who has given in to fleshly temptation and taken advantage of the trust of their sheep. When you discover this shocking news of another moral failing, are you tempted to harden your heart or grow cynical towards the church? It should cause us heartache and wake us up to the reality that the enemy wants to cause destruction among God’s people. These moral failings cause distrust among sheep, but they also hurt our witness to the world when they see the hypocrisy and corruption within the visible church. We must ask the Lord to give us a burden to pray for church leaders, but more importantly, the leaders of our very own church who have given their lives to shepherd souls and teach others about God and His ways. We are called to make disciples and need to be equipped by God’s Word to do that. God has called teachers and pastors to a higher standard to equip the Body for the work of the ministry by teaching us what God’s Word says. May we be quick to lift them up every day, knowing the seriousness of their high calling as teachers of God’s Holy Word, and thank the Lord for their role in your life personally, as someone who keeps watch over your soul. I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Tuesday morning, the 14th of April, 2026, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We go to the Book of Acts 10:41. This is Peter talking. He says:”…not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, even to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead.” Peter, telling the people that after Jesus Christ had risen (we have just celebrated Easter Sunday not so long ago), he said, “We ate with Jesus, we drank with Him. We know that He is alive.”I want to ask you a question today, my dear friend, why do you doubt the existence of Jesus so much when there is more evidence that He walked on the earth than Julius Caesar, and yet you never doubt that the Emperor of Rome existed but you question the sovereignty and the miracle-working power of the Son of God? There are none who are so blind as those who do not want to see! There are so many negative people who are talking about, “Did He really live?” Yes, we see the Bible. There are so many fake things around. I do understand that, and I sympathise with you, but God's Holy Word, the Bible, has never, ever changed. It is the same yesterday, today and forever. You will find that in Hebrews 13:8, and you and I need to believe when everything in this world is so plastic, so undependable. Now, you say to me, “Angus, how can we know that Jesus Christ has literally risen from the dead?” Very easily. As a farmer, I go out early in the morning before the sun has risen, and I see the stars. They have never changed. Oh, they are so beautiful. I look at the moon, the faithful witness in sky. What does it do? It reflects the sun. Of course, we spell sun, S-O-N. Yes, we need to open our spiritual eyes. I have just become a great-grandfather for the second time, and I held that little baby girl in my arms a week ago, and I could fit her into one hand. But I want to tell you, she is beautiful. She has dark eyes like her mother, my grand-daughter. Her little fingers are unbelievable. When she holds your finger, you say, “Lord, I see Jesus in her creation."Today, stop doubting and start believing, and you will have a much better day.Goodbye.

I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Monday morning, the 6th of April, 2026, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in 2 Corinthians 3:6: “…for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.” Then we go on to Acts 7:3. This is Stephen talking to the High Priest and the Council. He is telling them, “and then the Lord said to Abraham, “Get out of your country and your from your relatives and come to a land that I will show you.” Then he goes right on from there to tell the High Priest and the Council, the whole history of the Jewish nation from the time that they were delivered from Egypt out of slavery by the Lord using Moses. A waiter - yes, a waiter reminded the intellectuals, the High Priest, the Council. Those men had so much power they could almost administer the death penalty, and yet it took an ordinary waiter who was serving at the tables to teach them about their own history. Do you know why? Because he knew the Author of the word. That's right, he knew our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, He knew God the Father, and he was filled with the Holy Spirit. That is why the Bible tells us that the letter killeth but the Spirit giveth life. You can know the Bible inside out, back to front. That doesn't mean to say that you understand it unless you are filled with the Spirit of God. All you become is a history teacher. Isn't that right? No, it is when the Holy Spirit empowers you, like He did Stephen, that Stephen understood the meaning of God's Holy Word. I want to say to you today, yes, we must read the Bible. I read the Bible every single day of my life. You know that. That is where I get these Thoughts for Today from, but not only read it but understand it. Ask the Holy Spirit to give you understanding before you read your daily scriptures. The High Priests knew the word, but they didn't know the Holy Spirit, so they had no understanding of the power of the written word of God. As the earth rotates and the moon rises in the sky, it begins to look smaller, and eventually, when the moon is at its peak, it looks like any other full moon on any given night. The optical illusion can be corrected by merely using your thumb extended in front of you as a point of reference when the moon is on the horizon and then again when the moon is at its peak. In both instances, the moon is the same size. It is not closer at the beginning and further away later in the night sky. The trials and tribulations of this world can make the Lord seem far away. The sinful nature can be deceitful and lead one to believe that God is present in our lives, and we have been left all alone. The feeling of solitude is where Satan, sin, and the world work to pull our eyes away from an ever-present God. In those trials and tribulations, we are left to our own rationalization, where despair can set in, and in that despair, hopelessness. God can seem very distant.Our God is not a distant God. He is not one who seems present and then appears far away. Our God is a God who is very present in our lives. In your Baptism, He has placed His name upon you. He has marked with the cross both upon your forehead and upon your heart as one redeemed by Christ the crucified. Our God is present in the Sacrament of the Altar. He is not “represented” but sacramentally united in, with, and under the bread and wine. In faith, we receive His true body and true blood for the forgiveness of sins and the strengthening of faith. His Holy Word in the Scriptures is a living, breathing document. The Scriptures are not just mere ink on paper but the Holy Word of God that reveals our Savior, Jesus Christ. Our God is not far off. He is an everlasting, ever-present God. In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.Stay with us, Lord, and keep us true; Preserve our faith our whole life through– Your Word alone our heart's defense, The Church's glorious confidence. (LSB 585:6)

Last week, we started to look at how to handle temptation — the nature of the logismos (those obtrusive, invading thoughts) that get into our minds, into our heads. Stage 1 was about seeing and recognizing that temptation is pretty common and the thought (the whisper, the suggestion) isn’t itself sin, but it can lead there pretty quickly if we aren’t ready and aren’t prepared or strong enough spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and even physically. Today, on the podcast, we look at stage 2 — the dialogue. There tends to be this conversation that goes on in our head. It can be positive or negative depending on where we are at with things, but how to we best handle the inner dialogue and learn one of the best ways that God has given us a way to come out from underneath the attack? The answer is found in the Bible. Actually, the answer is the Bible, God’s Holy Word. We look at the temptation of Jesus as an exampeland template for how we ought to handle the dialogue phase and be ready for temptation when it comes. December 23, 2025Today's Reading: Deuteronomy 18:15-19Daily Lectionary: Isaiah 43:25-44:20; Revelation 11:1-19“…I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak to them all that I command him” (Deuteronomy 18:18)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.God charges every prophet, disciple, apostle, and pastor to speak His Word; thus, the wide sense of Deuteronomy 18:18. God gives His Word to His men bearing the task of speaking the full counsel of the divine Word. God desires His office bearers to speak what He says without addition and subtraction to the mighty Word, a point any faithful pastor knows well. But is there an individual in mind here, or is God speaking about the Office for men tasked with the ministry in various points in human history?There are scholars arguing that God is only speaking about the prophets in general, without anyone in mind. Often, these arguments spin out of unbelief in the inspired text. People doubt the Bible to be God's inerrant Word and concoct arguments from the premise that the Scriptures are void of any divine inspiration. The Bible without its divine character becomes just another book, a collection of myths by mortals under the familiar confines of a fallen world and sinful flesh. Our confession, however, is that the Bible can be trusted, and that it is the holy, infallible Word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit, Who always testifies to God's redemption won for us by Christ. Luther looked at this passage (Deuteronomy 18:18) and saw not only its divine character as the Word of God, but in light of Jesus, Who says about the Scriptures, “It is they that bear witness about me” (John 5:39), he saw Deuteronomy testifying to Christ. The “prophet” in chapter 18 is Christ from the blood of the Jews Who perfectly and completely taught the Word of God and fulfilled it in His suffering and death.Moses, a great leader and prophet in his own right, would not be the last. God would raise a large company of prophets, ultimately leading to Christ, the Prophet from the Jews, giving us the Holy Word of God, testifying to Himself as the Savior of the nations. The warning is clear: “whoever will not listen to my words that he shall speak in my name, I myself will require it of him” (Deuteronomy 18:19). Our task is to listen, a listening that always entails repentance and faith in the Prophet Who still speaks in His Word, teaches, leads, and guides us gathering in His Name and reading His Word on the pages of our Bibles testifying to God's salvation in that Prophet, that Savior sent from God, our crucified and risen Savior Who is Jesus.  In the Name + of Jesus. December 21, 2025Today's Reading: John 20:24-29Daily Lectionary: Isaiah 42:1-25; Revelation 9:1-12“Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” (John 20:29)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.Thomas refused to believe his brothers' testimony of the risen Christ. He wanted concrete proof, a living body he could feel, a real visual for the eyes. This makes sense. Jesus had prophesied His resurrection, and Thomas wanted evidence. Why would he give up everything for a lie? He's doubting, thus the moniker “doubting Thomas”; still, no disciple abandons everything for a cause he knows is untrue. Jesus' words “blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed” are a gentle rebuke for Thomas and us who make demands on God when the Word is sufficient. Christ is merciful to give Thomas what He seeks and prompts that great confession, “My Lord and my God!” Thomas sees, believes, and goes on to exercise Jesus' charge to forgive and retain sins (John 20:22-23) in a firm faith only God can give.It's not hard to find people denying God while claiming a lack of proof. But how many stories are in the Bible recording miraculous events only for the people to continue in unbelief? The Israelites crossed the Red Sea in miraculous fashion, only to grumble about food. Jesus healed on the Sabbath before enemies seeking His death. Miracles, we find, don't always result in faith and a proper understanding of Jesus. The devil who masquerades as an angel of light would love to have us turn to something other than the Word, telling us we need proof and evidence before faith. But the Scriptures are clear to teach us the power of the Holy Word and its sufficiency, therefore to create faith that believes and thus one is blessed without the eyes, without reason's confirmation of God via the senses. The disciples' witness of the living Christ is foundational to the testimony today going forth, echoing what Thomas and the others saw—the risen Christ Whose scars mean forgiveness and life. The Church still echoes this testimony and responds to Jesus in the words “My Lord and my God!” The Holy Spirit, Who works still in His Word, is good to create such faith before our risen Savior, Who speaks, “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” In the Name + of Jesus. Amen.Almighty and ever-living God, You strengthened Your apostle Thomas with firm and certain faith in the resurrection of Your Son. Grant us such faith in Jesus Christ, our Lord and our God, that we may never be found wanting in Your sight; through the same Jesus Chris, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. The period of Judges and Ruth was dark. God raised up Samuel as a prophet, priest, and judge when He answered childless Hannah's fervent prayer. Samuel was committed to doing what was right in God's sight, sadly Eli, the current priest, and sons were not. Eli's dealings with his erring sons teaches us we have to do more than just talk. From Samuel, the last judge, to Saul, the first king, is a tumultuous time. Fear becomes Saul's focus trumping growth in his relationship with God. Amazingly, Saul's son, Jonathan, shines because he does put God first. Fearless faith enables Jonathan to humbly embrace David as the next king instead of himself.David was anointed king before his famous fight with Goliath in chapter 17. We notice the timeline between David's anointing as king and him actually becoming king was quite a gap. David's brothers were about as encouraging as Joseph's. Was it jealousy? Brothers can be a blessing or a burden, this is true in all relationships, let's choose to be a Johnathan not an Eliab! The end of the first book of Samuel gets ugly for  King Saul, he's blinded by jealousy and cannot stop chasing David, he's not listening to Samuel, and he's not obeying God. After Samuel dies, Saul decides to have a medium bring him up. Sad picture of lost opportunities, we can learn much for Saul. Carpe Diem - Seize the Day!2 Samuel depicts the ups and downs of King David's life. We learn that sin separates and that no one sins in a vacuum, we can get forgiveness most assuredly sin has consequences. David's children suffered. Kudos to Nathan, who had the hard talk with David using the vehicle of story!Through it all, David is a man after God's own heart. I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Wednesday morning, the 8th of October, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today. We start in the Book of Job 28:28:”Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, And to depart from evil, is understanding.” Then we go to the Gospel of John 17:17:”Sanctify them by your truth. Your word is truth.” The Bible is the truth. We don't have to reinvent anything else. Everything you need to know, everything you need to stand by, is found in the Holy Word of God, the Bible. We cannot and we may not change anything. We've got to keep it simple. When you're talking to your children, make it very simple and then they will understand what the truth means. If we look at John 18:38. Jesus was standing before Pontius Pilate when he was judging him, and Pontius Pilate asked Jesus a question, ”What is truth?” Folks, there are none so blind as those who cannot see or don't want to see. Isn't that a true saying? You see, Pontius Pilate was looking into the face of truth itself. He was looking into the face of God and he was asking a question, “What is truth?” I want to say to you today, we must keep it simple. The Gospel is not complicated. I remember somebody saying to me a long time ago, ”Educators complicate, communicators simplify.” Keep it simple. Keep to the Word of God. When somebody says to you, ”Show me the truth,” give them a Bible because that is truth.You know the great automobile manufacturer Henry Ford? They came to him once and said, ”We want to paint the Model T Ford a different colour” (because in those days, they were all black). Henry Ford said, ”You can paint it any colour you like, as long as it stays black.” Folks, you can say what you like as long as you do not misinterpret the Bible. For those preachers that are listening to this word this morning, you have a tremendous responsibility when you get onto the platform, into the pulpit. You deliver the word of God because you will be judged accordingly. Just tell them what Jesus means to you! Have a wonderful day, God bless you and goodbye.
