Fiona Crombie is a production designer who is nominated for a 2019 Academy Award for Best Production Design along with set decorator Alice Felton for the film The Favourite starring Emma Stone, Rachel Weisz, and Olivia Colman. It's a quirky film set in 18th century England and the ailing Queen Anne and her intimate friend Lady Sarah who effectively runs the country. That is until a conniving servant arrives and proceeds to disrupt the status quo in a darkly hilarious way. Fiona won the British equivalent of an Oscar last weekend for Best Production Design at the BAFTA Awards. During this podcast, Fiona talks about what it means to be the production designer on a film, she discusses her process on The Favourite, and she reveals that part of that process included creating sets and settings for scenes that would not be lit by artificial light because the film's director Yorgos Lanthimos insisted on using only natural light and candles.
Oscar-nominated Fiona Crombie (production designer, The Favourite) is the guest on this episode of Meet me at the Movies. Noel T. Manning II gets insight into her career journey and explores the fun adventures she had creating the "look" of the Favourite. Meet me at the Movies airs each week on wgwg.org and C19 TV.
We're joined by Fiona Crombie, an Australian Oscar nominee for work on Yorgos Lanthimos' period farce, The Favourite. Lauren Carroll Harris speaks to Celia Pacquola and Luke McGregor as Rosehaven returns for Season 3, and a discussion on the work of avant-garde filmmaker Jonas Mekas who died last week.

Host Paul Booth interviews Fiona Crombie Production Designer of the Golden-Globe-winning (Best Picture Nominee) THE FAVOURITE.
Sarah Cook talks to actor Mark Gatiss about his role in Yorgos Lanthimos's new movie, The Favourite. The latest from Greek auteur Yorgos Lanthimos (Dogtooth, The Lobster and The Killing of a Sacred Deer) is a delightfully witty and physical comedy. It’s the early 18th Century, England are fighting the French and Olivia Colman’s Queen Anne in poor health. Vying for the Queen’s affections are her devoted friend, Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz), and Lady Sarah’s cousin, Abigail (Emma Stone). Newly arrived at the palace and aware the Queen is charmed by her personality, the wily Abigial sees a chance to restore the social status that has been battered by her father’s ruinous wagers. What follows is a riotous game of one-up-womanship, directed with a fierce, pacy intelligence by Lanthimos and superbly complemented by Robbie Ryan’s cinematography, Sandy Powell’s costume designs and Fiona Crombie’s spectacular sets. At the centre of this wickedly amusing tale are the three powerhouse performances from Weisz, Stone and, especially, Colman, who won the Best Actress at the Venice Film Festival for her uproarious portrayal of Queen Anne. The Favourite is in cinemas now.
For weeks there has been a debate over how much of "The Favourite's" much awarded (and Oscar hopeful) production design was actual production design and how much of it was simply very good location scouting. Here to put the debate to rest is production designer Fiona Crombie who's previous credits include 2016's "Macbeth" and the hit show "Top Of The Lake." Fiona was kind enough to give us a few minutes of her time to talk about the lush, detailed and vast work on Yorgos Lanthimos' new film. Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on...
