Mike and Elliott rave about Freddie Steward's goal kicking (does he remind you of a certain other legendary Tigers 15??) and Michael Cheika's hairdryer treatment as the boys overcome a slow start and show glimpses of brilliance in a comfortable win over Ulster. Next up are the reigning champions, Toulouse, where nothing less than an absolute thrashing of our French friends will be acceptable...
Jim's dialling in from Spotify HQ in the USA, and Goodey's fresh off a busy Champions Cup weekend. We're diving into all the action, including Leinster's brutal bust-up against La Rochelle, Glasgow's big win against Racing, and Freddie Steward's Six Nations stock is rising after Leicester's win against Ulster. Plus, Junior Kpoku—England U20 star and Racing 92 powerhouse—joins us to chat about life in the TOP14, who's England jersey he's coming for, and what's next for the 6ft 8 phenom. Also on the pod, the lads give their take on the Mack Hansen's ban, and why South African fans don't rate Dupont as the GOAT. Subscribe on Spotify, sit back, and enjoy the ride! Hear from Freddie Steward, as Tigers prepare for the clash with Bristol Bears.
Shaun and Thala are joined by rugby journalist and broadcaster (and hot take artist) Caleb Mutombwa to review the weekend's Autumn Nations Series. We start with the Springboks victory over England by debating who won the kicking game, the Boks taking turns to step Freddie Steward and which Boks players stocks rose and fell after this game. Caleb reports from the Steven Borthwick press conference and discusses whether the pressure on Borthwick is increasing, his selection failures and whether England are on the right track. We then look at many of the other Autumn Nations Series games over the weekend. We are in awe of the cinematic production of the haka at the Stade France in France's victory over the All Blacks, the Wallabies extending Wales' losing streak to 11, Italy overcoming a difficult Georgia opponent, what Ireland's narrow victory over Argentina tells us about both teams and what Scotland can learn from playing sides like Portugal. Finally we react to the World Rugby Awards nominations which include nominations for three Springboks for men's 15s Player of the Year, Antoine Dupont starring in the Men's Sevens Player of the Year, a debate about the Men's Breakthrough Player of the Year and why the Women's 15s Player of the Year is Ellie Kildunne's to lose. We also ask what will happen in Bok Twitter if Caelan Doris wins Player of the Year!
We are joined by Charlie Morgan as we preview the big England v South Africa test. We look into the coaching merry-go-round with Steve Borthwick's assistants, the defensive set up, what Freddie Steward is picked for and a lot more. Kooks, Thala and Shaun then go through the Springbok squad and pick their pressure points ahead of the big clash
Post match analysis with Tom Varndell plus attack coach Peter Hewat & Freddie Steward
We're less than 24 hours from the second Test at Eden Park which finally brings the curtain down on a long season, and Alex Lowe is back on the pod to preview it all with Chris in the heart of Auckland. England will be without George Furbank who has been ruled out through injury. How much will the absence of the Northampton full-back change England's gameplan on Saturday? We hear from England flanker Sam Underhill on Freddie Steward coming in to replace Furbank and he tells us how much he's relishing the Eden Park challenge. Chris has also been speaking to Chandler Cunningham-South about his rapid rise to becoming an England international after growing up in New Zealand.

In Episode 94 we kick off looking at the FA Cup quarter-finals, and the madness at Old Trafford that saw Fulham have two players and their manager sent off as they lost 3-1 to Manchester United. Continuing with red cards, in Rugby, England's Freddie Steward was sent off in their defeat by Ireland. This win meant the men in green sealed the 6 Nations title and Grand Slam, whilst France sealed runner up spot by beating Wales and Scotland finished a good season with a close fought win over Italy. Two legends of women's sport announced their retirements this week. England Rugby captain Sarah Hunter plays her last game on Saturday against Scotland, after a 16-year career that has included winning the World Cup and multiple Grand Slams, as well as being England's most ever capped player – both women's and men's. Maddie Hinch has been England and Great Britain goalkeeper for 15 years, winning gold at both the Olympics and Commonwealth Games during her 186 caps. Two greats, who have both done so much for women's sport. This week's guest is Darryl Saunders, Chairman of Langley FC. He joins us to chat through how he got involved with the club, as well as the great plans for making the club a key asset in the local community by developing the off-field facilities to match the ambitious aspirations on the field. A club that is definitely going places.
Records were broken, tears were shed and jigs were danced as an Ireland Grand Slam on St Patrick's weekend has come to pass. The man behind the jig, Ireland's captain and the highest ever points scorer in Six Nations history, Johnny Sexton, breaks away from celebrations to join Hask and Payno for a debrief. He relives Saturday, gives his two pence on Andy Farrell and tells the lads that while this is great, the job won't be done til the autumn. Hask and Payno also give their thoughts on Freddie Steward's red card, England's fitness and question the World Cup pools, which as it stands has the top 5 ranked teams in the world in one half of the draw... France '23 is gunna be one hell of a tournament!
On Wednesday's Rugby Daily, Richie McCormack brings you news of Freddie Steward's disciplinary hearing regarding that red card against Ireland. We hear from Deirbhile Nic a Bháird and Meabh Deeley ahead of Ireland's Women's Six Nations opener with Wales. Two more Leinster stars are extending their stays. And two Springboks props are on the move.
England went out with a whimper in their final Six Nations 2023 match against Ireland, who romped to a third grand slam in the last 14 years. The Irish won every game almost at a canter but despite Freddie Steward's game-changing red card in this match, Steve Borthwick's team were way off the pace for the tournament.
Shaun and Thala review the final weekend of the Six Nations, celebrating Ireland's Grand Slam victory. We review each team's campaign, rating them out of 10, discussing who their best player is and what each team needs to work on for the Rugby World Cup. How do Shaun and Thala feel about Italy? Which of Scotland's #SaffasAbroad was their best player? Should we be more optimistic about England or Wales? And which of France or Ireland's players should be Player of the Tournament. We also select a Team of the Tournament, discuss Freddie Steward's red card and what Scotland will do with their flyhalves going forward.
The SWL Six Nations podcast returns to review the 2023 edition of the tournament, which saw Ireland win a Grand Slam and England limp to just two wins. The panel discuss the controversial sending off of Freddie Steward as Ireland secured their third Six Nations Grand Slam and look at why some players struggle to live up to their club form in an England shirt. With Cam Stephens, Elise Hamersley, Oscar Ress and host George Simms.
Our two favourite captains, Sam Warburton and John Barclay, are back with Ugo and Chris on the sofa in Media City to round up the final weekend of an enthralling Six Nations. They discuss what sets Grand Slam winners Ireland apart from their rivals, there's more on Freddie Steward's controversial red card in Dublin, and the home nations are graded on their performance in the tournament. Does a Slam mean Ireland should automatically receive top marks? The guys also pick their best players and moments of the tournament.
James Downey joins Pat McCarry and Jason Hennessy in the House of Rugby studio to discuss Irish Grand Slams in the 2023 Six Nations and U20 championship. We also hear from Johnny Sexton, Tommy Bowe, Andy Farrell and Ireland Women captain Nichola Fryday. (0:30) - Reacting to Ireland's win over England (16:00) - Freddie Steward red card (31:00) - Johnny Sexton and Andy Farrell (33:20) - U20s Grand Slam and senior highlights (57:00) - Tommy Bowe (58:15) - Six Nations awards and Nichola Fryday
On Monday's Rugby Daily, Richie McCormack brings you reaction to Ireland's Grand Slam success at the weekend. We hear from Mack Hansen after he was nominated for Six Nations Player of the Championship. There's an update on Freddie Steward's red card, bad news from Leinster regarding injuries, but a more pleasant tone from Munster. And Ian Foster has hinted that Joe Schmidt could follow him out of the All Blacks coaching staff.
Stephen Jones and Alan Dymock look back on the conclusion of the men's 6 Nations along with Pete O'Reilly. They assess Ireland's famous Grand Slam as well as covering all the big talking points from victory over England, including Freddie Steward's red card. They are also joined by Jess Hayden to preview the start of the women's 6 Nations this weekend. And, they name their God or Goddess of the week. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Ireland are Grand Slam champions, and we bring the St Patrick's Day Party to you from Dublin! England had to improve on last week and they did, but it wasn't enough to keep the men in green at bay, especially when Freddie Steward was served a controversial red card. Chris Jones, Matt Dawson and Jamie Heaslip discuss that decision and the impact it had, as well as what ultimately separated Ireland in terms of class, and the moment everyone knew the Grand Slam was in the bag. They also take a moment to appreciate the fitting Six Nations send off for Jonny Sexton as he became the all-time points scorer for Ireland, and reflect on why he is one of the greats of the game – and why he won't be going quietly!

Adam and Owynn Palmer-Atkin react to Leicester's team news before the East Midlands Derby
Chris, Ugo and Matt Dawson bring you reaction to Ireland's sensational series win over the All Blacks. Andy Farrell's side had to withstand a fierce second half comeback, but held firm to inflict a first home series defeat on New Zealand since 1994. England also wrapped up their series against Australia with a hard fought win in Sydney. Freddie Steward joins the pod to reflect on the win which caps a brilliant year for the England and Leicester full back.
It's been another sensational few days for the pod. Ashy won his fourth Premiership title at the weekend and now Danny is on his way to Australia with England. Ugo and Sara chat to Eddie Jones about why he's brought Danny back into the fold along with Billy Vunipola. They also quiz the England boss on his midfield selections and that humbling defeat to the Barbarians. We then hear about Ashy's two-day title celebrations with his Leicester team-mates. We find out what state the Premiership trophy is in, and why Freddie Steward nearly ended up in the River Thames.
Elliot and Mike are joined by awards-collector, Freddie Air Steward, to chat through a meteoric 12 months for the Tigers' fullback. We also breeze through a final regular season match against Wasps which saw the boys finish top of the pile going into the playoffs, and get ourselves revved up for the big one - a home semi-final-East-Midlands-Derby. Not that much revving is required.
It was a big night for the pod at the RPA awards as Danny and Ashy both picked up silverware. Danny chats to Chris about winning the special merit award and his wife Jodie makes her pod debut. You will also hear from the gentle giant Andre Esterhuizen who was named players' player of the season. So we've waited a long time for an England squad that finally starts to look new, and on Saturday we almost get it. The starting XV isn't all that fresh with the major exception being that fly half sensation Marcus Smith finally gets a start against top notch opposition. Freddie Steward also keeps his place at fullback, but apart from that it's still for the most part business as usual for England. However, when you look at their bench, it's almost a sea change. Sam Simmonds, back rower extraordinaire for Exeter finally gets included in a matchday 23 for England. Alex Dombrandt gets another shot from the bench, Max Malins in the backs, Raffi Quirke at scrum half and Jamie Blamire and Bevan Rodd in the front row. However, all eyes will be on Marcus Smith and if he makes a go of it expect him to get the nod next weekend in England's World Cup grudge rematch with South Africa. Nevertheless just to keep it spicy Eddie Jones has stuck with some of his controversial selection and positional choices. As for Australia, they are pretty happy with their new look, and despite coming unstuck against Scotland by the slimmest of margins last weekend, this is a unit that is humming quite nicely. They won't be intimidated by England, even if some of their combinations aren't quite clicking they way need to be against the big Northern Hemisphere sides. Add in the fact that they are clearly missing Quade Cooper, Samu Kerevi and Marika Koroibete, and things are not quite the way the Wallabies would like them to be. Nevertheless it's still a pretty flash looking unit that knows how to score five pointers and has finally mastered the art of defence. They are familiar with each other and a culture of winning, something which this year has eluded England at key moments. Australia may not be as fully stocked as they would like for this one but make no mistake they will fancy their chances and have the talent to deliver on it.
We're underway for the 2021 Autumn Nations Series and the opening round of fixtures produced no surprises, with a weakened Wales getting roundly beaten by New Zealand and Scotland making light work of Tonga.Joining Brian to reflect on the opening round of games and to discuss a busy weekend is the former London Irish and England winger Topsy Ojo.Round two will see the introduction of the rest of the Northern Hemisphere sides, including England who open their campaign against Tonga on Saturday. Ahead of the game, head coach Eddie Jones has had to deny allegations that he has fallen out with a number of his coaching staff during his six years in charge, we discuss what impact the story is likely to have on Jones, his coaching staff and playing squad.Freddie Steward is one of many candidates to replace injured Elliot Daly at full back this Autumn, we speak with the Leicester giant to discuss his scintillating club form and how he manages to balance the life of an international rugby player with a third year economics student.Elsewhere we recap a sensational win for England's women who thumped their rivals New Zealand in the first of two tests before next years World Cup.Read more from Brian every Monday: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/authors/b/bp-bt/brian-moore/ |Save 50% on a Telegraph Sport subscription: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/contact |See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
