It wasn't so long ago that one phrase sat above any other in the hierarchy of endorsements for a British or Australian male: “He's a good bloke.” You don't hear it as much in 2024 because blokehood is under attack across the Western world. Historically positive masculine virtues are now shamed as toxically masculine. At a minimum, blokeishness is derided as boorishness by our social betters in the media, politics, business, and culture. The first step to reclaiming blokehood is understanding it, which is what Geoff Norcott has done. As a rare right-winger, Geoff is a unique voice in British comedy, and has been hugely successful on the stand up circuit, with his podcast, and on TV. His latest book has made him the official expert on British blokes. It is titled, "The British Bloke: Decoded – From Banter to Man Flu, Everything Finally Explained."Follow Will Kingston and Fire at Will on social media here.Subscribe to The Spectator Australia here.Visit Geoff's website here.

Geoff Norcott is one of Britain's favourite comedians. He's also one of those rarest of things, a right-wing comedian. Before his comedy career, he was a teacher, and during his time as a teacher in the 90s and noughties, he encouraged lots of his students to go to university. Now though, with fees much higher and satisfaction levels at university at an all-time low. He's wondering whether it's really the case that his son should go to university. So he's embarked on a documentary for the BBC saying, is university really worth it? It's a great watch and Jeff came on Jimmy's Jobs of the Future to chat about what he thinks the future of university and the workplace is. Learn more about your ad choices. If you type ‘right wing comedian' into a search engine the top answer will be Geoff Norcott. Amazingly...the second, third and fourth results would also be the comedian and podcaster. He's certainly cornered his niche making us laugh on Live At The Apollo, Have I Got News For You, and his own stand-up special for Radio 4 Geoff-erendum. But, ironically, it seems Geoff doesn't necessarily skew right, when it comes to at least one of his musical heroes – as we discovered, when we asked him to share his Inheritance Tracks.
