I heard Prabhupāda speaking this morning. Tāmal Kṛṣṇa Mahārāja, as a very young devotee, was telling Prabhupāda, as he was listening to him in awe, he was saying, "Prabhupāda, I always want to remember you speaking. I always want to be able to remember what you're saying and then to be able to recall it and say it myself." And Prabhupāda said, "This takes cultivation." He said, "Everything takes cultivation." So our "right as rain" process, where we sit down and chant every day and just do it—do the activity—because it's following in the footsteps of the ācārya - 'ācāryavān puruṣo veda', means that you know everything, you're properly situated. If you can cultivate that, then you've got a perfect life as a human being. And that's why it feels so good to every day finish your rounds and do the chanting of Hare Kṛṣṇa. I know after last week's session, I just felt great because I was thinking, "Wow, there's something in this Hare Kṛṣṇa chanting!" If we can stick together and keep doing this and get more people involved, then it's the only way to make the world a better place—to start from that level and then work outwardly. So it's a worthy cause. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
Here's an excerpt from the Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Ādi-līlā, chapter four, in which Prabhupāda quotes from the Bhakti-sandarbha. This is the verdict of Jīva Gosvāmī in describing the process of chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa: "Chanting the holy name is the chief means of attaining love of Godhead. This chanting or devotional service does not depend on any paraphernalia, nor on one's having taken birth in a good family. By humility and meekness, one attracts the attention of Kṛṣṇa. That is the verdict of all the Vedas. Therefore, if one becomes very humble and meek, he can easily attain the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa in this age of Kali. This is the fulfillment of all great sacrifices, penances, and austerities, because when one achieves ecstatic love of Godhead, he attains the complete perfection of life. Therefore, whatever one does in executing devotional service must be accompanied by the chanting of the holy name of the Lord, the chanting of the holy name of Kṛṣṇa: Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare, Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare.' ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
Prabhupāda signed his letters, "Your ever well-wisher," which means he wished us well. He gave us the instructions, which were his blessings. You find at the beginning of his letters, he says, "Please accept my blessings." So the blessing is that I'm giving you this sound, this vibration, and now I'm your well-wisher, but you have to take advantage of it. There's only one kind of true happiness in life: the happiness of applying oneself to the order of the ācāryas. In that endeavor, taking some austerity means prying myself away from what I want to do or what my senses want to do, and instead doing what the ācārya says is good for me. This is tapasya, and in tapasya there's actual happiness. The senses become purified. I feel joy in my heart. I feel aligned with Kṛṣṇa, and I get all good qualities naturally. The supreme process in the Age of Kali-yuga is this chanting of the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra. So everybody here that's on this call or connected in any way listening to it afterwards is in the right place at the right time. You came to the right Yuga, the right planet, and the right room, because here we're chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa. We're following the ācārya to the best of our ability, and that means success. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #makejapagreatagain #mantrameditation #chantharekrishnaandbehappy #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
Actually, chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa is the only thing that can completely satisfy the heart, and one of the reasons is—or the main reason is—that we're part and parcel of Kṛṣṇa. We have a very intimate relationship with Him. In one sense, we are Kṛṣṇa because we're one of His limbs. On the other side, achintya bheda abheda: we have our own identity. It's achintya, inconceivable. But if you consider how intimate we are, as Prabhupada explains, if you have a limb like a finger, what will you do to protect your finger? How will you take care of it? How important do you consider it to be? So, Kṛṣṇa considers every one of us to be important because we're His limbs, we're His parts and parcels—in one sense, on one side, non-different from Kṛṣṇa. And the feeling of separation from Him, dvitiya, thinking that I'm something separate from Him, is the cause of a completely different world. It's a world in which there's ignorance of the fact that we're part of Krishna, we're eternally His servants, and we enjoy in cooperation with Him, just as the finger does in cooperation with the hand and the rest of the body. So, chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa feels so good because we finally have that respite we need from the pounding we get in the material world when we're trying to arrange things separately from Kṛṣṇa. We're just fully putting our attention in the hands of Krishna and just focusing on His name. Just as an experiment for a few minutes, we can probably only take about four or five in the time we have left. But I'd like you to rate yourself on a scale of one to ten. Ten means samadhi, that you attained complete absorption, that you're just fully fixed on the name without any fluctuation of your attention to any other place. One means that you were like sleeping on the floor and dreaming about some other land. Where did you end up on the scale? How do you rate yourself in the last 45 minutes of chanting the maha-mantra? Say a number—you don't have to give a long explanation, just a short one. And then say one thing that you find to be endearing about And then say one thing that you find to be endearing about Kṛṣṇa. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
We've been given full permission to give our complete attention to chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa, talking about Kṛṣṇa, and worshiping Kṛṣṇa. And if somebody brings up another topic, you can say, 'I appreciate it very much. If it were any other lifetime, I would be happy to discuss it with you. However, in this lifetime, I no longer have time, because I have been given one business—and that is to chant about Kṛṣṇa, worship Kṛṣṇa, and spread the Holy Name to people all over the world. If it was any other lifetime, I would be happy to talk to you about it. But in this lifetime, I've dedicated myself to this project, and I don't have time. Like, you know, sometimes people say, "It was any other day," or "any other something." It's like, "It was any other lifetime, it was any other previous lifetime." I would have probably been happy to talk to you about this, but in this lifetime, I won't be able to, because I have one point of dedication: Tasmād ekena manasā Bhagavān sātvatāṁ patiḥ Śrotavyaḥ kīrtitavyaś ca Dhyeyaḥ pūjyaś ca nityadā. (SB 1.2.14) This is the conclusion of the seminar, the 1000-Year seminar that took place at Naimiśāraṇya. They came up with a few mission statements, and one of them is "tasmād ekena manasā." Therefore, "tasmād ekena manasā" means to just point your mind in one direction. This has been the mission statement; it has been passed down from the top of the company. They already decided, and they gave it to us. So, if someone wants to bring your mind somewhere else, to some other conversation that doesn't sound like it's part of your mission, say, "Yeah, no problem. If it was some other previous lifetime, I would have definitely entertained it with you. But in this lifetime, I've been given 'tasmād ekena manasā bhagavān sātvatāṁ patiḥ.' I can only think of Bhagavān and do that kind of business and topic. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #makejapagreatagain #mantrameditation #chantharekrishnaandbehappy #soul #mantrameditation #spiritualawakening #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
I'm so deeply grateful to all of you for your one-pointed attention on devotional service. You're using your lives, starting with the most important part—the beginning—and getting established deeply in sādhana that will carry you through your whole life. All auspiciousness comes from chanting strictly every day, and all nonsense subsides from your life. Nonsense leads to great suffering, confusion, and so forth. So dry up the whole sea of nonsense that's there in your mind by the powerful winds of the holy name. Keep chanting throughout the day as much as possible and keep reading Prabhupāda's books. Follow the four regulative principles, because going off the guard rails, over the guard rails, means that you've got to climb back out again with injuries. So stay safe. Wear your safety belt. Don't go off the road. This morning, I was reading a eulogy of my dear godbrother, Jayananda Ṭhākura, who is very dear to Śrīla Prabhupāda. And Śrīla Prabhupāda had written him a letter that I very much appreciated, regarding the chanting of the holy name, and it has a very straightforward purport. So I wanted to read it to you. And here's what he wrote: 1967 Prabhupāda wrote the following: 'Your service attitude for Kṛṣṇa and your sincere attempts at being advanced in Kṛṣṇa consciousness will work with you and make your life more and more glorious and a happy state. I have been very glad that you are appreciating by yourself the effects of sincere Kṛṣṇa consciousness. I have nothing new to instruct you. The same old instruction, namely, constant chanting and attentively hearing the transcendental vibration Hare Kṛṣṇa is the only process for self-realization in this age. In San Francisco, while you were driving your car, and I was sitting by you, hearing Your transcendental vibration, this very sincere attempt has enriched your consciousness. And my only instruction is that you may constantly do this habit without fail." So Śrīla Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura said, "Apply the simple path very strictly." So there's a way in which Prabhupāda says here, "There's no new instruction I have for you." And this is one of the ways the mind tries to trick us by saying, "There must be something more sophisticated." But Prabhupāda comes back and says, "No, this is the simple process." He says, "This is the same old instruction: chant Hare Kṛṣṇa." So knowing that everything is there for improvement on all levels is a calming factor to the mind—that just be there. Just hear the vibration, bypass the mind, go straight from the lips into your heart, and be confident that this is the only process that will be effective in this age. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
When the devotees first went to India, Prabhupāda was there, and he invited devotees to come over because he wanted to show what happened. You know, he went alone to America, and he comes back with all these Americans. In India, at the time, people were looking to Americans and go, like, 'How are we going to catch up to these guys? We want what they have.' And then Prabhupāda plays this trick on them, where he comes to America, he gets all these Westerners, and he comes back with a big airplane full of Westerners. 'Here you go. They want what you are supposed to want, which is pure love for God.' In Surat, devotees went there, and they were having kīrtana, and people came out of their houses, and they were grabbing the dust after the devotees walked there, so much so that there were holes in the road! And devotees were surprised and taken aback, and they asked Prabhupāda later, 'Why were they doing that?' And he said, 'Because you follow the four regulative principles and you chant Hare Kṛṣṇa, anywhere you go in the world, you'll be honored because of them.' The greatest desire one can have is what Prahlāda Mahārāja showed us: 'Oh my Lord, if I have any desire within my heart, let it be no material desire, only the desire to serve You.' So we have the stark examples: Hiraṇyakaśipu—boo! And then you have Prahlāda Mahārāja, he's worshipable to us. In fact, Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu, when He would sit with Gadādhara Paṇḍita to hear Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, He wanted to hear that story over and over again. Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta told all his disciples to read Prahlāda 108 times. Hear that story over and over and over and over again, and he's famous, Prahlada Maharaja. He's famous all over the world because of that. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
Prahlāda Mahārāja is the subject of the Seventh Canto. If you measure which topics are there in the entire lengthy seven cantos of the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva makes a very short appearance. He just comes in, tears apart Hiraṇyakaśipu, and that's it. But Prahlāda is featured throughout as a tender child, offering instructions to his classmates and also praying to Lord Nṛsiṁhadeva. These are memorable prayers which have been repeated over millennia, people remembering what is the basic entry-level standard for the process of Kṛṣṇa consciousness, or bhakti, or what we call devotional service, and that is, "I don't want anything except to serve. I just want to serve Kṛṣṇa and Kṛṣṇa's devotees, and whatever I have for myself, it's only so that I can go on serving." And Prahlāda is the emblem of that. Interestingly, in the Bṛhat-Bhāgavatāmṛta, when Nārada Muni is trying to find the devotee who's received the most mercy from Kṛṣṇa and is interviewing different people, observing them, when he comes to Prahlāda Mahārāja, Prahlāda said, "I didn't get much mercy actually." He said, "Because I didn't get any service; He just came to save me, but He didn't give me specific service to do." And that actually is very telling, because when you get service, then you can go on doing that eternally. If you are granted some service, like, SKP, he just walked in with the list. Hare Kṛṣṇa, we're fortunate because we've been given some service to do, and that's the greatest benediction that we can have. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
Prabhupāda also says that one can be attentive when one has a sense of love for Kṛṣṇa, and following the process of chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa requires some adjustment to one's lifestyle and also consciousness, in that we remember that "I'm helpless," as Kuntī says, "let go of any sense that you have a maintainer or protector, and just take shelter of Kṛṣṇa, then your chanting will be effective." 'Janmaiśvarya-śruta-śrībhir edhamāna-madaḥ pumān naivārhaty abhidhātuṁ vai tvām akiñcana-gocaram (ŚB 1.8.26). So it's the one opportunity we have. Of course, every moment is an opportunity, but this is very deliberate to aim our consciousness like an arrow towards Kṛṣṇa, and we can be very focused by feeling ourselves helpless. And as Caitanya Mahāprabhu said: "tṛṇād api su-nīcena taror iva sahiṣṇunā amāninā māna-dena kīrtanīyaḥ sadā hariḥ" (Śikṣāṣṭakaṁ, Verse 3) being utterly dependent on Kṛṣṇa and realizing our own ineptitude. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #makejapagreatagain #chantharekrishnaandbehappy #mantrameditation #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
Well one is to express gratitude. One of my godbrothers told me, while we were traveling, and this is an example of getting something valuable from association. He said, every morning when he wakes up, as soon as he swings out of bed and puts his feet on the floor (of course, if you're a brahmacārī—I don't know how you're going to do that), but before he stands up, he says, 'Thank you, Śrīla Prabhupāda.'" And I said, "I'm going to start doing that too." So I started doing that upon getting up. And then I started saying, "Thank you, Kṛṣṇa." I'd say it a few times until I was chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa. I'd say, "Thank you, Kṛṣṇa. Thank you, Kṛṣṇa. Thank you, Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare, Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma." And then when I'm chanting my japa, I'm thinking, "Thank you, Kṛṣṇa. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
I started noticing at our community that there where kids, and my first notice of them would be that they would trump through the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam class while we were conducting it, without a care in the world, or noticing that they were walking through a group of devotees who were hearing Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Then I started noticing that they were exceptional. Little by little, I noticed that, and I got fascinated with how they were born into families where the chanting of Hare Kṛṣṇa, where the devotees were chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa. And I saw they must be some special souls. Then I started realizing more and more that they were, and then I started realizing more and more that they were one of the main pillars of the community. So I gave more and more attention to the young people, partly because they were non-judgmental, and it was really easy to be around them and have programs. And then I started doing more research about how to give more facility to young people. I wanted to know what they thought when they were growing up, and what it felt like to be an adolescent in the Hare Kṛṣṇa movement. In fact, I called some devotees who were already grown up, but they had been through that, like Jhanavi Harrison, that I talked to for some time, and she told me how she had met Jamunā and had been deeply inspired by her. And when she was leaving her home and driving away, she thought, "Yeah, I'm going to be a devotee." Then I got together a group of young people who were my godbrothers and godsisters who had been initiated at a young age—some of them at 12, Prabhupāda gave initiation to—and I wanted to know from them what inspired them and what was a hindrance in their progress. After some conferences, they came up with these two mantras. One of them was in the middle of this pentagon that you see there. What helped them the most was seeing peers doing great, and the thing that held them back the most, they said, was not having upward mobility they felt at the time there. There wasn't any opening for them for taking on service or management or anything like that. Then I started noticing that young people gravitated, oftentimes and in many places around ISKCON, to kīrtana. And I started some interaction with the kids, where we had not just kīrtana, but also some of the other things you see here: ślokas, śravaṇam (hearing from Prabhupāda's books), then of course kīrtanam, and then visits to the Deities' rooms, and also learning book distribution. I saw those as five points that could be really helpful, and we started several programs like Youth Jam, Śāstra Jam, Japa Jolt, and Youth Yatra. Why am I bringing this up regarding community? Because people care about their kids right? now, really say, "Yes, yeah." I mean, and when the kids are becoming Kṛṣṇa conscious and well-rounded, and they actually cross that threshold where they say, "No, I want to be a devotee. It's not that I was a devotee. Now I'm growing up, and I'm going to move on and do something else." They feel part of the mission, and they start taking responsibilities like initiation and also wanting to do service. And they're really smart, too, and they bring in everybody else. They bring in the rest of the community. It enlivens them. So I made these two pentagons. One of them is a reminder that it all comes back to śravaṇam-kīrtanam. There's no point to coming together for niceties if there's no transcendental sound vibration, and the community is all based on hearing and chanting and then distributing to as many people as possible. If we have those as a center point, and if we feel that we're flagging in one way or another, we can always remember that the antidote to that is to hear and chant more and increase the transcendental sound vibration. That's helpful to know. And it's the verdict of the śāstra that that's our main process.
We're really in a pickle here, and there's a way in which Kṛṣṇa absolves us of all that, if we just come back to our happy life, happy Life means, "Kṛṣṇa, I'm Yours. I'm Your servant." So the meaning of chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa is very profound. It means that you've come to the pinnacle of understanding that my life is meant for Kṛṣṇa, and everything I do is to be used in His service, dedicated to Him. When you chant Hare Kṛṣṇa, you can take full shelter of Kṛṣṇa and just say, "Kṛṣṇa, I am a lost soul. I'm not liberated. I have nothing in this world. I'm the runt of the litter. I've been left behind, abandoned. I'm freezing by the roadside in the middle of nowhere, and have nobody else but You. Please, please engage me in Your service." And Kṛṣṇa is so kind that in our forlorn, lost situation, He'll be there. In fact, He's always been there for us, and there's a recognition that He's there for us. When we call out to Him, then immediately we'll feel satisfaction in our heart. All the disappointments we've had in this world, all the tenuous situations, trying to hold on to things that we know we can't hold on to, will be assuaged from our fears, from our false hopes that are nagging at us, giving us a sense of cognitive dissonance at every moment of our lives, even when we're dreaming—it will be dried up.Our tears will dry up. So he (Lord Caitanya )went back to His spiritual master, and he said, "Did you give me the right mantra? Because when I chant this, I go crazy." And the spiritual master said, "Very good, very good, very good." And there in the purport, Prabhupāda said, "A spiritual master isn't interested in donations or any material facility. What he wants to see is that the disciple gets the freedom of Kṛṣṇa consciousness and gets a taste for chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa." Prabhupāda—the first time I had the fortune of sitting in his presence, it was in 1973 in San Francisco, a kid from the suburbs. Here's a paramahaṁsa. I went in with a group, got whisked in, sat down, and when the devotees read Prabhupāda the saṅkīrtana results for the day, he looked right at us, and he said, "You must also read my books. I've not written them just for selling. I've written them for you to read, become pure devotees, and go back to Godhead." That's what Prabhupāda wanted. He says so in his books. So he wanted us to read his books. And after that time, I felt full permission to read Prabhupāda's books as much as possible, and I still do, and it's the mainstay of our movement—that is the sound vibration, that is the books. Prabhupāda's books are the primal vibration of ISKCON, and taking full advantage of that vibration by going deeply within them, reading them regularly, reading all of them completely, all the way through as many times as possible in his lifetime—that gives one this internal spiritual strength, and one can understand exactly what Kṛṣṇa wants, what Prabhupāda wanted, hearing from his purports. He said, "Everything I had to say, I said in my books, so please read them carefully and discuss them." He said in his final purports before he left the world that if there's ever any difference or problems, he said, "Sit together and read Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, and you could work it out." So that's what he wanted us to be internally, to be deeply in love with the Bhāgavatam. And that's not hard to do because it's so beautiful. The Bhāgavatam solves all the problems. Kṛṣṇa mentions in the Bhagavad-gītā vīta-rāga-bhaya-krodhāḥ—there are these three main stumbling blocks in the material world: rāga, bhaya, krodha. By reading through the whole Bhāgavatam, there's a way in which the Bhāgavatam helps us overcome all of the psychological anomalies that hold us back from giving our full heart to Kṛṣṇa. And that's what Kṛṣṇa wants. That's what Prabhupāda wants. That's what any Vaiṣṇava wants. They want to see everybody happy. And a Vaiṣṇava knows you can't be happy unless you're with Kṛṣṇa. I mentioned in a class this morning, I just read in the 11th Canto of the Bhāgavatam that the emptiness that people feel in the material world because they're not in contact with Kṛṣṇa is worse than death and hell. The pain of struggling through life and then dying and going to hell is not as great as the emptiness that one feels by not being connected to Kṛṣṇa. And you can directly connect to Kṛṣṇa by reading the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, because that's the sound incarnation of Kṛṣṇa. So that's what Prabhupāda wanted. He wanted us to take advantage of what he painstakingly presented for us. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------
How is it that transcendental sound can be transmitted through a material medium? After all, when you hear "Hare Kṛṣṇa," that's a percussive sound, it's coming through the air, and it's touching your eardrum, and it's vibrating, and it goes through the auditory nerve, and then you're able to make some association. So how do you distinguish a material sound from a spiritual sound? Or how are those two different? And they are different, say the personified Vedas, because Kṛṣṇa is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and He controls all energies, and He's fully cognizant of why you're chanting. Therefore, when a pure devotee chants, Pṛthu Mahārāja says in the Fourth Canto of the Bhāgavatam, there's a different effect than when a māyāvādī chants, māyāvādī poison. Pṛthu Mahārāja says, when a pure devotee with love in his heart (or her heart) for Kṛṣṇa chants the holy name, then that holy name, he says poetically, touches Kṛṣṇa's lotus feet. Look, His lotus feet are besmeared with saffron, and that's in the paste that the devotees put on the Lord's lotus feet, and then the sound vibration is mixed with saffron mercy particles. So when you hear that sound vibration by Kṛṣṇa's divine arrangement from a pure devotee, then your heart changes, and you say, "I think I'll surrender to Kṛṣṇa." When a māyāvādī chants, and they think they're chanting to become God, or all demigods are God, are the same, then the sound vibration is contaminating. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #srimadbhagvatamreading #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
Just a reminder, there are thousands, tens of thousands, millions of scriptures. They have admonitions about what to do and what not to do. But when we come to our Vaiṣṇava śāstras, and it's repeated in the Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu by Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī and agreed upon by our own ācāryas, there's only one purpose to all of them, and that's to somehow or other fix your mind on Kṛṣṇa. There's no other place where the mind is satisfied, anywhere in the three worlds. Doesn't matter where you go, how much you get, it won't be satisfied. It'll be disappointed. It'll be morose. And if you think of Kṛṣṇa, then naturally you'll feel satisfied and you'll achieve everything. Lucky for us, there's an all-encompassing and all-engrossing way that we can do that. It's just by chanting the holy name and bypassing the mind. Just let the name of Kṛṣṇa, which is non-different from Him, go directly into our minds and just hear the sound into our ears, and just hear the sound. So don't feel that you have to think of anything else. You don't. Yena kena prakāreṇa manaḥ kṛṣṇe niveśayet—one way or another, find a way just to fix your mind on Kṛṣṇa. That's the...that's the whole purpose. And chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa is the topmost way to do that. It's been vetted by all the great ācāryas. So feel free, just fix your mind on Kṛṣṇa. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
In friendship, we require trust between the two. So it's not just that we're trying to develop faith in Kṛṣṇa. It's also that we're trying to act in such a way that He'll have faith in us. Easy come, easy go. If one has very easy access, it would seem like something very insignificant. We do have access, but it's a serious relationship also, where Kṛṣṇa, when He sees that we're sincere and serious, the more that He does reveal Himself to us and talk to us.He does talk to those who are pure devotees and who have no other motive. He says so in the Bhagavad-gītā, that "I'm attentive to those who are attentive to Me." So as an example, let's say you're chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa and what if Kṛṣṇa did talk to you, and He said, "Why don't you come back to Godhead right now?" What would you say? "I would, but I got work later today," or "I still have to go to school," or "I would, but, you know, I wanna take care of my family a little more before I go with You." Kṛṣṇa's relationship is beyond an ordinary relationship where you can be serious or not serious, but Kṛṣṇa wants to evoke that sense of seriousness in us. ----------------------------------------------------------- To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #spiritualquestions #answer #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
Hearing the voice of his master, Kirāta, suddenly stood up, breaking the anthill. And as he emerged from the anthill, Nārada said, "Your name is Vālmīki." In Sanskrit, the word Vālmīki means "one who emerged from an anthill," chanting over decades, centuries, being absorbed in the mantra. His heart became pure. He was a new person. He made his journey to meet Sītā and Rāma, and as we know from the Rāmāyaṇa, he took to a life of compassion. What's more, he became so empowered by chanting the Rāma mantra that he was appointed the to be the author of the Rāmāyaṇa. And so powerful was the name of Rāma in his life that he wrote the pastimes of Rāma as if he was seeing them in his own room. They were taking place right before his eyes, and all he had to do was write down the activities in detail, which formed the Rāmāyaṇa. Śrīla Prabhupāda brought the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra and distributed it literally everywhere. He brought it. People would come together. I was in San Francisco today with a group of very new participants in the Kṛṣṇa Consciousness Movement. And I took them to a couple of places in the city where the old temple used to be and where Prabhupāda used to stay. They were walking behind me, and I noticed that they couldn't stop chanting, "Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare, Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare." Everywhere he went, they kept the vibration going, and I felt the same power. Anyone from any position of life, whether one be a Kirāta or a person on the street in San Francisco, or what to speak of somebody with a high birth being born from devotee parents who takes the sacred name of the Lord and repeats it again and again—well, certainly, as the Bhāgavatam says, āpannaḥ saṁsṛtiṁ ghorāṁ, yan-nāma vivaśo gṛṇan, tataḥ sadyo vimucyeta, yad bibheti svayaṁ bhayam—the Lord gives protection to anyone who calls His name. What's more, by chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa, the heart becomes pure, and one can see the Lord directly, just as Vālmīki saw the pastimes of the Lord. Those who chant Hare Kṛṣṇa will come to know their eternal relationship with Kṛṣṇa. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
The service that we do is always based on our intention. If we're cooking something or we're dressing The Deities, or let's say, leading a kīrtana, we're chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa. But if that mantra coming from our heart is actually, "Look at me. Look at me. Look at me. Everybody, look at me," it's not the same as if you're expressing, you know, "Kṛṣṇa, You're everything." So the real service comes from that intention of the way you're doing it. And chanting is the time, as I said in the very beginning, when you can fully express that, and even a molecule of that expression of sincerity is what connects us so deeply with Kṛṣṇa, because He's already there waiting for us to look, look in His direction. So you can think of it like that. He doesn't need anything from us, but when we give our loving attention with the mood of service, then that's service itself. ----------------------------------------------------------- To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #japajolt #mantrameditation #makejapagreatagain #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
Jīva Gosvāmī says in his Sandarbha that you can understand your own advancement by how eager you are to hear. It's not to say, "Okay, somebody's feeling not as inclined," but one must practice hearing on a regular daily basis until one begins to be attracted. The reason I'm not attracted to chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa or to hearing the pastimes is because of the effects of rajo-guṇa and tamo-guṇa within my mind, but 'śṛṇvatāṁ sva-kathāḥ kṛṣṇaḥ, puṇya-śravaṇa-kīrtanaḥ, hṛdy antaḥ stho hy abhadrāṇi, vidhunoti suhṛt satām' (SB 1.2.17) - the effects of rajas and tamas are quickly dissipated by the hearing of Kṛṣṇa's pastimes and of ātma-tattva-jñāna, and one then desires to hear. And Jīva Gosvāmī says to the degree that one desires to hear about Kṛṣṇa in all the details, that's one of the other aspects. As you can tell from Parīkṣit Mahārāja, when he's inquiring from Śukadeva Gosvāmī, he wants to know about everything. Like, why did he ask that question? And Prabhupāda answers in his purport, was it because it's related to Kṛṣṇa, directly or indirectly anything related to Kṛṣṇa, he wants to know it. He wants to drink it with his ears. As we continue to hear, we'll also develop such an impetus to hear more and to hear the details, and that will develop into this same sense that Rāmdās Vipra has for hearing Rāmāyaṇa. Rūpa Gosvāmī then says, 'kṛṣṇa-bhakti-rasa-bhāvitā matiḥ, krīyatāṁ yadi kuto 'pi labhyate, tatra laulyam api mūlyam ekalaṁ, janma-koṭi-sukṛtair na labhyate (CC Madhya 8.70).' You can't get that kind of desire to hear about Kṛṣṇa from doing good works in this world, some sukṛti, because it's not the mode of goodness. You can cultivate the mode of goodness, but it won't bring you to this intense desire to hear about Kṛṣṇa, but by association of Vaiṣṇavas who are interested in hearing and by being patient and listening to Kṛṣṇa's book, to the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, to the Bhagavad-gītā, to the books that Prabhupāda gave us, entering again and again into hearing them, there will be a natural attraction, and that attraction, says Rūpa Gosvāmī, when it comes to a sense of greed—you can tell the intensity of Rāmdās Vipra, because he said, "I'd rather die than think about this idea of Sītā being touched by Rāvaṇa"—he was so absorbed in the pastime. When our desire is on the stove, or our practice is on the stove, and the fire is coming up, you can see from water—those who are cooks, they know there are different levels of temperature in the water. You can do it even without a thermometer. I know. My grandmother was a cook, and she was saying that when those tiny little bubbles come up, she said, "Okay, that's called smiling—the water smiling—because it's a little bit boiling," and then when it's raging, boiling, and it's spilling over, that's the topmost. As those different levels of desire we may have for devotional service, the intention is to hear until, well, you can feel it's smiling, like, "Yeah, I gotta get back there. I want to hear the class. I don't want to stand on the corner and gossip. I want to hear the kathā." And then it becomes more and more imperative to hear, and when it becomes laulyam, what's described as a kind of greed that you'll steal it wherever you can, and you can't do without it at any time, then he says, that's the price of admission into bhakti. I heard a story... https://vedabase.io/en/library/sb/1/2/17/ https://vedabase.io/en/library/cc/madhya/8/70/ https://vedabase.io/en/library/cc/madhya/7/138/ ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/

In chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa, there are ways that the Padma Purāṇa suggests we upgrade our attitude, and by upgrading our attitude in various ways, we'll have more appreciation for the holy name, and we'll feel the effects more. Much as the sun has an equal effect on everybody, but if you go inside and close all your curtains and the sunshine doesn't come through, you're not going to get the benefit of the sun. So in the same way, it's an organic process, and it's natural that we contact Kṛṣṇa and we feel His presence. And because of His presence, vāsudeve bhagavati, bhakti-yogaḥ prayojitaḥ, janayaty āśu vairāgyaṁ, jñānaṁ ca yad ahaitukam—very quickly, we see the residual benefits. But if we don't take advantage of the process that Kṛṣṇa, Lord Caitanya, has given, then, as a lyric in an old song from the 1980s said, "I don't know what you expect staring into a TV set." I mean, what do you want? You're the one sitting there staring into a TV set, and not you. I'm just saying one. And what do you expect out of your life if you stare into a screen for a long, long time—self-realization ? happiness? ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
And in rajas, the mind is trying to fix problems. And part of that is a sense of survival. "I have to do this in order to be whole, I have to stave off what I fear." We're in fear mode. That's more touching tamas and then rajas mode. "I'm going to fix it myself," and it takes a while to come out of that mode. The modes are no joke. They actually are very powerful energy: daivī hy eṣā guṇa-mayī. So how we interact with the modes throughout our days and what we think about—it's not that we just sit down and all of a sudden we just switch over into this pure flow of the holy name. It's a product of everything we do from morning till night. That's why the chanting of Hare Kṛṣṇa goes along with the pañcarātrika system—that they go on two tracks. So the Holy Name is the deliverer. There's nothing else needed. But can you just chant? Or do you think about all your problems? So you're not alone in that. It's the product of the Age of Kali—there's so much rajas and tamas, and our lifestyles are absorbed in rajas and tamas. And you do have a lot going on. You're going to school, you're working, you're doing all these things. So naturally, the mind is in that hyper mode of rajas. So a little more adjustment in some of the things you do throughout the day, like the way you wake up, the way you keep your mind engaged throughout the day, you just by degrees change from rajas habits to sāttvic habits. You know, like the screen. The screen has become ubiquitous. Everywhere I go, everywhere I look, everyone's got a screen in front of their face, and what's coming out of it? It's, if you analyze it, unless you're really only tuned into one app that's like the Hare Kṛṣṇa app, whatever that might be. And you know you're reprogramming your mind in rajas. Then you sit down to chant, and it is going to take you at 64 rounds before you start to feel something. A few rounds, you may just be somewhere else. Your mind's still going on the scroll. So then, what do you do? Start to adjust something like, do some Deity sevā, clean something, sweep something to, you know, add that in another 0.05% of your life. Go for another habit, and then start increasing on that side, and you'll see that that goes in parallel lines with your chanting, the lifestyle that we lead. That's why we follow four regulative principles. Because the four regulative principles, the energy that comes from the material world, is also assumed within those four prohibitions. And if you touch those by vision, by hearing, and all those kinds of things, then it just stays there in the mind, and it takes a long time to sweep that garbage out of there. So just by degrees, tiny bit at a time, so you don't feel overwhelmed, transfer your mind to sattva-guṇa. Get into sāttvic habits. And if you see yourself doing rajas habits, then put a time limit on it. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife
The Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra is a spiritual sound. It's coming from the highest position in the spiritual world. In another song, not the one I'm quoting now, but it says, "golokera prema-dhana, hari-nāma-saṅkīrtana," that the sound of the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra, a sample of which you can give now, that mantra and the name, which is composed of names of God, is an avatāra also. It comes from the spiritual world into this world, and by hearing that sound, it's very much like The Wizard of Oz. Dorothy got bumped on the head. I think it was a tornado, because she probably lived... Where did she live? Kansas. Thank you. I've got to know my śāstra. She lived in Kansas, where there are tornadoes, and after being bumped on the head, she entered into a dreamland. She was unconscious, apparently, as we find out in the end, that everything seemed real, and there was a wicked witch and there was a good witch, and there was the Tin Man and the Lion and the Scarecrow. Thank you, everybody. I haven't watched it in a long time, and a robot. And, of course, there was Oz and then the dog, Toto, that one I remember. It was a harrowing experience she had there, fluctuating between the good witch and her benevolence and the bad witch, who was sinister and scary—for me as a kid, it really scared me thinking about that. And on the journey, she came to know an incantation by which she could come back to her original consciousness. Does anybody remember what it was? "There's no place like home." I think she had to click her heels also. If anybody wants to correct me, go ahead, because I'm not fully studied on this, but three clicks of the heels, "There's no place like home. There's no place like home." And by that mantra and clicking her heels, she came back into her home in Kansas, and everyone was worried about her. All her loved ones were there, and that was the reality that she came back to after that harrowing journey she had through the Land of Oz. And there's a way in which the Bhāgavatam describes how we're sleeping, or the song I'm talking about is we're sleeping, and we're having these dreams about our lives, our life situation. Sometimes it's very scary. And there's a way in which we sometimes feel we've come into good fortune, and we feel elated, but then we lose that fortune, whatever it might have been for, due to circumstances which people can probably relate to. And it comes and goes, and then there is a sound that comes and a mantra that comes from the spiritual world, and the avatāra who brings that to teach it to everybody, the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra, is a sound of home. You can hear your spiritual home. First you hear it, or you can hear God first also, because He appears in sound. It's the philosophy behind the Kṛṣṇa Consciousness Movement, and Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu was teaching that the mantra itself is an avatāra, and by chanting it, we awaken from the dream and we come back to reality. Conclusion: Give up all self-interested desire and serve Kṛṣṇa, and hear Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam in the association of devotees, to come to that point of complete purification of intention and purpose. Pray by chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa. "Please, Kṛṣṇa, if You so desire, remove any last vestiges of desire for material enjoyment from my heart." There's a devotee named Sudāma who dressed up as a Hare Kṛṣṇa in Hawaii for Halloween. And on a dare, his friends told him, "Why don't you jump in the van with the Hare Kṛṣṇas?" because they go out chanting on Halloween. And being a joker or a prankster, he jumped in, and then he took it a step further by getting in the van with them and going home and taking prasādam. And it was all fun and games, and it was to impress his friends. Then he found himself on the other side of the world. He was back in Boston, going to school, and he became very depressed about his life. And then he met a devotee who had a book table, and he got a book, and then he remembered his experience with the Hare Kṛṣṇas. So, in the Caitanya-caritāmṛta, there's a description—the gopīs talk about Kṛṣṇa as being very sticky. They say, "Be careful of Him, because He's like mango sap. If you get mango sap in your hair, you just got to chop it off, because you're not going to get it out. It won't come out—mango sap!" So they said, "Kṛṣṇa is like mango sap. He gets in you and you can't get Him off." And Rūpa Gosvāmī says, yad-ābhāso 'py udyan kavalita-bhava-dhvānta-vibhavaḥ"- even if somebody is in complete abject darkness and ignorance, if they hear "Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare, Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare," then Rūpa Gosvāmī says that even that person in complete ignorance, they get a feeling for bhakti. It awakens in their heart because the holy name goes in their ears. It dances in their heart and it awakens their sense of bhakti. So, in the teachings of Caitanya Mahāprabhu, He said that in the Śikṣāṣṭakam, we should take to chanting and we should purify the heart. And He said also that it avails us to all good fortune—who would like the white lotus of good fortune to appear in his or her heart or life? And this is something Prabhupāda mentions in the story of the Guṇḍīcā-mārjana. And that is that not only does one have to chant Hare Kṛṣṇa, but one also has to be careful to avoid the ten offenses. And he says that when the heart becomes clean, then it becomes a proper altar on which one can install the Deity of Kṛṣṇa. So you can imagine that our bodies are sacred, they're a tabernacle, and in that tabernacle—a tabernacle is a place where the essence, God's essence, is installed, and it's also portable—if one can cleanse one's heart and then install the Lord on the altar of one's heart, because it's clean enough and it's properly anointed, then, Prabhupāda says, you can hold a festival and invite everybody and have a prasādam feast, that you've purified the heart and you're you've installed The Lord within your heart. And in the process of chanting, the white lotus of good fortune opens within one's heart. Puṇya-śravaṇa-kīrtana means that everyone's looking for some fortune in this world, but it's fickle. It just comes and goes. But the good fortune that we get from association with The Holy Name is eternal and ever-increasing, and one can experience that... Kṛṣṇa says, "You can meditate upon me as the one who knows everything." So, there's a way that when you're chanting, if you take Kṛṣṇa's advice and think of him as the one who knows everything, it can avoid the kind of distraction the mind has when it's constantly trying to fix everything. One of the ways I notice I get distracted is my mind's thinking, "Yes, but I got to fix this," "Yes, but I got to fix that." But if you know that Kṛṣṇa already knows everything, besides, he knows how to fix everything, and you just leave it to him. Say, "Okay, Kṛṣṇa, you already know all these problems, and you know all these various troubles that I'm going through. So, I just leave it to you. You know everything." And knowing that he has a special interest in us, he knows everything. He knows how to fix it. It gives us a period of time where we could just fully invest our mind in this meditation that Kṛṣṇa knows everything. It's Kṛṣṇa's idea. I'm just mentioning it. Hare Kṛṣṇa. There was a pūjārī here for many years, taking care of this Deity, and something amazing happened to him that increased his faith a million-fold in Advaita Ācārya. Should I say what it is? He was sitting here one day, and he saw Westerners come here. They were chanting just like we were when we came in, and they were offering obeisances to Advaita Ācārya and walking over. It was the first time he had ever seen Western people come here. And he approached one of them and said, "Who are you? Where did you come from?" And they said, "Oh, we're disciples of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda." The man broke into tears, and he said, "He did it, he did it." And then he told them the story that one day, when he was here in this lonely place because not many people used to come here, he saw a sādhu all alone come here, sit down, and was praying all day long here. He approached him and asked him who he was and what he was doing. This sādhu told him that, "My spiritual master has given me an impossible assignment, at least in my life I don't see how it's possible because I'm now approaching seventy years old, and he asked me to go to the West to teach Kṛṣṇa consciousness to the Westerners. And he said I have no money. I'm trying to get passage on a ship to go to America, and I have to fulfill the order of My Spiritual Master, but I'm not sure how it will happen. I just know I have to do it, and therefore I've come here to pray to Advaita Ācārya, who's the one who inaugurated the Krishna Consciousness Movement by inviting Sri Caitanya Mahāprabhu." That man never saw that sādhu again, ever, until these Westerners came back here and showed him a picture of the Back to Godhead magazine. There was Prabhupāda with his international movement. He had reached every continent of the world, and people everywhere were chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa. He had opened 108 temples, and that Bhagavad-gītā class, just like Advaita Ācārya had started here hundreds of years ago, was now going on in Des Moines, Iowa; London, Mombasa, Toledo, Siberia, San Francisco, Bolivia - La Paz, Argentina, Toronto. I mean, there's a huge community in Toronto. How did it get there? It started here with Prabhupāda's prayers, and we can go on all day, shouting out cities, and we'll know that it's there. The Bhagavad-gītā, as it is, is being taught in all these places. So this There was a pūjārī here for many years, taking care of this Deity, and something amazing happened to him that increased his faith a million-fold in Advaita Ācārya. Should I say what it is? So, one point that Rūpa Gosvāmī makes about the practice of bhakti is that one should never assume that one knows why one is doing it. And it's always a good question to say, 'Why am I doing this?' before engaging in a practice of bhakti. So, I have a question that we can entertain over the next couple of minutes: Why are you here? Why are you chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa today? But you've got to back it up with some kind of scriptural reference. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
Also, please make a concerted effort to read Prabhupāda's books again and again. He said, 'Everything I had to say, I said in my books.' And there's even more than just gathering information. When you read Prabhupāda's books, you're getting his association. So make it something that, even if it's just a little bit every day, try to hear something from Prabhupāda's books and go through them as much as possible. The kids will benefit too, from seeing you and hearing you reading out loud, and that's one of the ways to stay strong in spiritual life, along with your chanting. It was seventh and eighth grade. I don't know about you all, but that's what we had back then. And at Fairview, there was a fellow student of mine named Steve Rau. I don't know if he's still on the planet or not, but I remember when Steve Rau decided that he was going to get straight A's, he was going to be the valedictorian, and he was also going to be the top athlete in school. I remember he made that decision, and Steve Rau did no-nonsense. Steve Rau would run to school and back just to get in his miles, and he would not go out and carouse as he was home studying to get straight A's and so forth. I saw that by his determination, Steve Rau achieved all those things because he decided he was going to do it. This is called dṛḍha-vratāḥ. And don't get me started with Dave Dibbern. I've mentioned him before: he was a flutist, and he wasn't making as much progress on his flute playing as he wanted to. And one fine summer night circa 1969, he lived nearby. He was a fellow student in high school. He came running to our house and burst through the front door with his flute, and he had his head shaved, which was taboo in 1969. Nobody but the Hare Kṛṣṇas shaved their heads back then. He said, "That's it. No more fooling around. I'm going to get good on the flute." Then he slammed the door and ran home, and he became an excellent flute player. This is called dridha vrata. Remember the Dave Dibbern or Steve Rau principle. And so in the Bhagavad Gita, Kṛṣṇa says that if you're careful about the way you organize your life and you don't intermingle with people who are not serious—not serious means they think it's okay to be stupid, making themselves unnecessarily stupid through some of the activities that I mentioned earlier. It's one of the tenets of spiritual practice: don't dabble in things that will make you stupid or lose your reason, or become so attached unnecessarily that you'll lose your reason. At the same time, if one practices the tenets of bhakti, it's compared to lighting dry firewood. If one tries to practice spiritual life while at the same time contaminating one's consciousness by the lower modes of material nature through ill-advised activities, it's compared to trying to light a fire that has become moistened by the fog, or, even worse, by a heavy rainstorm. It may take a lot more fire to start the kindling in that case. So two things go together. Therefore, the sages gave this advice: lead a clean life and, at the same time, practice bhakti and then this verse comes to life (BG 7.28) : yeṣāṁ tv anta-gataṁ pāpaṁ janānāṁ puṇya-karmaṇām te dvandva-moha-nirmuktā bhajante māṁ dṛḍha-vratāḥ https://vedabase.io/en/library/bg/7/28/ (excerpt from the talk) ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------
Anybody need an attitude lift? Yes, lift your attitude. One, two, three, lift. So much of our progress has to do with our attitude, and it's easy to get pushed down by the three modes of material nature. The way to rise above it is by chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa. And I'm going to repeat the first verse that came from the Antya Līlā, Caitanya-caritāmṛta, written by Kṛṣṇadāsa Kavirāja Gosvāmī. Simply by chanting The Holy Name of Lord Kṛṣṇa, one can be freed from all undesirable habits. Simply by chanting The Holy Name of Lord Kṛṣṇa, one can be freed from all undesirable habits. That's what everybody's talking about and preparing for: how can I overcome undesirable habits? There are millions of self-help books, courses, psychology majors, everything. How can I overcome undesirable habits? But this one process, chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa is the way to rise above it. Correct. Who can prove it with śāstra? Give me a Sanskrit verse. Why does it work? Because we're not blind followers. We need evidence. This is a good example of vaidhi-bhakti. You're disturbed when you're three minutes late. This means a very strict idea of how to follow the process. I have a god brother, Saurī Dāsa, who lived with him in the ashram in Hawaii and other places, and he's down to the second. Everything's like, "Get out of my way. We got to do this now," and everything has to be fixed and regulated. He gets up at the same time, and actually, in the beginning of the practice of devotional service, or throughout, we find that the great devotees, Raghunātha Dāsa Goswāmī's practice was like lines in stone, very strictly following. This leads to more advanced stages of the practice of devotional service. So that's good to hear that your mind becomes disturbed by being three minutes late.Hare Kṛṣṇa. I'll read something for our last section. This is from the Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam six canto, Ajāmila delivered by the Viṣṇudūtas. "One who chants the holy name of the Lord is immediately freed from the reactions of unlimited sins, even if he chants indirectly to indicate something else, jokingly for musical entertainment or even neglectfully. This is accepted by all the learned scholars of the scriptures. If one chants the holy name of Hari and then dies because of an accidental misfortune, such as falling from the top of a house, slipping and suffering broken bones while traveling on the road, being bitten by a serpent, being afflicted with pain and high fever, or being injured by a weapon, one is immediately absolved from having to enter hellish life, even though he is sinful." ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose #makejapagreatagain #mantra #mantrameditation #chantharekrishnaandbehappy #harekrishna
What we think of, what we fix our intelligence and our mind upon, is indicative of the kinds of emotions that we will develop. So, Caitanya Mahāprabhu told Prakāśānanda Sarasvatī a verse that he learned from his guru: "evaṁ-vrataḥ sva-priya-nāma-kīrtyā jātānurāgo druta-citta uccaiḥ hasaty atho roditi rauti gāyaty unmāda-van nṛtyati loka-bāhyaḥ (SB 11.2.40)." That is, when one chants Hare Kṛṣṇa, because Kṛṣṇa's name is completely spiritual, then gradually the heart will change. Druta-citta means it will melt from the stone-like condition of meditating on one stone house, thinking, "This is my everything." Then the heart becomes softer, and it melts, and one then is able to enjoy spiritual emotion, which has become dormant due to one's association with matter. So, the purpose of chanting is to serve Kṛṣṇa and also to save ourselves from the material condition by transferring our intelligence and our awareness to the Nāma Cintāmaṇi Kṛṣṇas and away from a stone house. So, during these japa circles, we have full permission to take our minds away from the stone-like objects that we may have become accustomed to thinking of and to fully surrender our awareness to thinking of Kṛṣṇa and His Holy Names. Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura says that when you're chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa, you should beg for this medicine and beg for the mercy of Kṛṣṇa. And so there's a goal to our sādhana. That's sādhya. And the practice to reach the sādhya, or the goal, is sādhana. And so one has to have some clear idea what one's begging for. It's like Rajendrananda Prabhu said, he's begging for some service, some shelter. And so if we have this mood that we know what we want, we want some service, and we're begging for it, then our chanting becomes much more meaningful and it becomes more potent by adopting this mood. The root cause of misery is the material body, and a direct process of devotional service, especially chanting japa, has a way of bringing us to the plane of transcendence, and that means also being able to see clearly who we are. 'Vāsudeve bhagavati bhakti-yogaḥ prayojitaḥ janayaty āśu vairāgyaṁ jñānaṁ ca yad ahaitukam (SB 1.2.7).' Sūta Gosvāmī said there's a natural way in which we achieve knowledge when we do devotional service. And real knowledge means 'kṣetra-jñaṁ cāpi māṁ viddhi sarva-kṣetreṣu bhārata kṣetra-kṣetra jñayor jñānaṁ yat taj jñānaṁ mataṁ mama.' (BG 13.3) Kṛṣṇa says, "My opinion is if you can see the difference between yourself and the field that you're occupying now, that's knowledge." So in summation, the chanting of Japa is the primary means by which we can overcome all of the anxieties of life that are caused by identifying with the body and the mind. What's more, we can experience a connection with Kṛṣṇa through chanting his name, because there's no difference between Kṛṣṇa and his name, and therefore I've come to say to myself, and I'm sure I've uttered it out loud a few other times, that if all else fails, and it will, especially printers and internet connections and so forth, then chant Hare Kṛṣṇa. So my mantra is, if all else fails, and it will, Chant Hare Kṛṣṇa. What do you think of my mantra? And we can commiserate with others about how many things fail in this world: relationships fail, governments fail bank accounts, everything, whatever it is, sooner or later, will fail us, but Kṛṣṇa never fails us. So it's nice to be in a practice where there's no fault, no one can find fault with it, and what's more, that it's an infallible process. So there's a way to cultivate this awareness that Kṛṣṇa and His name are non-different. There's nothing else to be had except for the Holy Name. And Kṛṣṇa fulfills all desires more than we can expect. Another name of Kṛṣṇa is Vañchatītāt. Atita means ‘above' or ‘to rise above', and vañchā means ‘desire'. So whatever desire we have, Kṛṣṇa can fulfill it above what we can expect. So keeping this is a first stage. I'll mention the other ones later. But the first stage of cultivation, or helping someone understand the importance of chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa, is that we needn't go anywhere else—just to focus the mind on The Holy Name. The cause of our various dispositions and the way we hate some things, like other things, is because of our association with the modes of material nature. So Kunti says all of this is bad, actually. And therefore, when I'm subjected to reversals of fortune, and I'm jarred by it, and therefore, I take shelter of Kṛṣṇa, this is a blessing. Oftentimes, when there's a reversal, I take shelter of pitying myself, or I become a victim and think: I go on television. "Why do bad things happen to good people? There must be no God." So how can anything bad happen to me? But this is not a helpful attitude. The helpful attitude is that I'm incompatible with nature, and therefore, there are going to be inconveniences, to say the least, in the material nature. I should learn to be dhīra, which means steady. Whether my stocks are up or my stocks are down, I stay the same. My philosophy is the same, whatever happens. And that is, I go on serving Kṛṣṇa. No stop, no interruption whatsoever. And when one is able to, by the association of devotees and the śāstras, develop such an attitude and go on steadily throughout life without stoppage, never stopping chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa and never stopping one's service, then 'māṁ ca yo 'vyabhicāreṇa bhakti-yogena sevate sa guṇān samatītyaitān brahma-bhūyāya kalpate.' One can rise above the modes of material nature altogether and enter into devotional service proper. Or by continuing one's devotional service, one naturally rises above the modes of nature. Every other sound in the material world is an annoyance except for the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahāmantra. And Caitanya Mahāprabhu's clarion call to the world, taking the harinām out into the street was a way of waking everybody up and saying no matter how pious you think you are, you're just in a pit in this mature world. Come out! The saṅkīrtana movement started here at ground zero, Śrīvāsa Aṅgana. There's so much spiritual power in this place because of the event that took place here, which is an eternal event that is still going on because it's a nitya-līlā of Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu. If you fall on the ground here in a daṇḍavat, put your heart to the floor; you can feel the pulsation of that first harinām saṅkīrtana or of the nocturnal kīrtana that went on here. And you can pray: please let that vibration go into my heart and stay there and inspire me to take the Holy Name to every town and village, both through nagara-kīrtana and through literary kīrtana, as Prabhupāda said that there is a bṛhat mṛdaṅga. You can chant in the nagara-kīrtana and you can be heard for a few blocks, and nowadays a lot longer because everyone is watching it on YouTube. But when you write down the kīrtana and put it in a book and send it out like a message in a bottle to the world, then it can go everywhere. In fact, he noted that some devotees had given books to the son and daughter of one of the American presidents, and they carried them right into the White House. He said we would not have been able to take the nagara-kīrtana inside the White House, at least not at this point in history, but the books went in. So all this preparation for spreading the Holy Name of the Lord started here at Śrīvāsa Aṅgana. When we chant the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra in japa, this is a very personal matter because we all are part and parcel of Kṛṣṇa. We have our unique relationship with Him, and this is a time for self-tuning, just as you tune a radio, if you've ever done that. I don't know if there are radios anymore. It used to be in the old days, kids. There were machines called radios, and they had a dial on them, and there were frequencies along the dial that you could tune into and listen to a specific program. Are you listening? There's a cat. Cats can join too. Kitty, kitty is doing service like kitty just sleep. Let her hang out. When we chant japa, it's a time of self-examination, where we look and see where we are tuned. So we can be tuned to, even as we're chanting, we can be tuned to another frequency. Like there's a frequency of, 'When are we going to eat?' There's a frequency of, 'I have a problem I have to solve.' The frequency of, 'My foot hurts.' There are a lot of different frequencies. So we try to get tuned as closely as we can to being a servant of Kṛṣṇa and just praying to Kṛṣṇa. kali-kāle nāma-rūpe kṛṣṇa-avatāra nāma haite haya sarva-jagat-nistāra In this Age of Kali, the holy name of the Lord, the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra, is the incarnation of Lord Kṛṣṇa. Simply by chanting the holy name, one associates with the Lord directly. Anyone who does this is certainly delivered. Prabhupāda had the devotees that were in early ISKCON in the '70s come to Māyāpur, and Vṛndāvana and sometimes, Jagannātha Purī on the way between the two. And he invited the devotees from all over the world. He said all of you should come here and meet with me here in Māyāpur. And he said we should discuss unity in diversity. We'd have kīrtanas. And Prabhupāda said that should be the time of discussion here in Māyāpur. It was a time when, in a fledgling movement, devotees from all over the world who were preaching in various countries would come together and meet one another and discuss how it was going in various places. In the afternoon, we go from the temple such that it was the living facilities here were very rough. If you think that your room is a little simple. I hate to tell these back-when-I-was-a-boy stories, but the room I stayed in as a brahmacārī was on the wall that was the simplest of dwellings because there weren't enough rooms. The wall was there, and they just weaned some plywood off of the wall and then cut a little hole so we could get in there. The floor was dirt. There was no latrine at all, just a big pit in the middle of the field with a kind of a fence around it. And water, there was no although were the pumps. There was no drinking water, there was no shower, there was no hot water, there was no bottled water. That didn't come until much later in the '80s here in India. And nonetheless, Prabhupāda pushed on. He invited everyone to come here because he saw that the essence was to come together, chant Hare Kṛṣṇa, and discuss how we can cooperate. One of his main points was to spread the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement, and devotees would come here and discuss and hear how one another were doing in the daytime. Everyone would go to the Ganges, and it wasn't as far away as it is now, but there you could walk up and down the Ganges, and every one of the leaders from different parts of the world would be sitting, and then there would be a circle of devotees around that leader all the way up the Ganges. And there'd be classes going on, Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam or Bhagavad Gītā discussion. And then in the morning, Prabhupāda would give class in the temple that's there now. And in the evening, he would give darśana in these rooms. And many devotees would come and crowd in the rooms. And one evening, while we were in there and the darśana was over, one of my godbrothers, who I partnered with on book distribution, kept inviting everybody else to go out first because he had a plan that he was going to meet Prabhupāda. And when everyone was gone, he turned around and went back to Prabhupāda and asked him a question that a lot of devotees had, which is, should I live in the West, or should I move here to the dhāma? And Prabhupāda said that the West is for preaching or for sense gratification. And his indication was, if you're going to the West, then you should go there to preach. Otherwise, you will just be engulfed by sense gratification. You notice that in Prabhupāda's bedroom, he has a picture of Śrī Śrī Rādhā Govinda. Those are the deities in Brooklyn. Prabhupāda, although he was in Māyāpur, he was thinking about Rādhā Govinda every night before he took rest. But there's a section that one of my godbrothers pointed out with how he had mentioned how he was thinking about the project in New York, that he had Rādhā Govinda on the wall, but it's not retrofit. This is not a new thing that somebody put Rādhā Govinda on the wall. Those deities were on his wall when he was here. So although Prabhupāda was in the dhāma, he was thinking about the West, and he was thinking about how to expand the project. But as he said, when he landed or arrived in Boston, New York, after a long, arduous journey with two heart attacks and, later on, several strokes as well, he said that the reason my mission in the West was successful is because I had faith in two things. This is very important for us because we want to become like Śrīla Prabhupāda, not that we can become Śrīla Prabhupāda, but follow in his footsteps. He said, 'I had faith in two things.' This is why his mission was successful and continues to expand over the next 10,000 years with the movement of saṅkīrtana, the movement of Lord Caitanya, the Golden Age of Kali Yuga. He said, 'I had faith in two things, the instructions of my spiritual master, and the chanting of Hare Kṛṣṇa. Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare, Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare.' Now it's all history. We tend to think back and look at how Prabhupāda boarded the ship. He went across the ocean. The captain said he'd never seen the Atlantic Ocean so calm in his whole life as a sailor. But Prabhupāda endured extremely difficult circumstances. Again, he had heart attacks. It was a long journey. I can't imagine what he had to eat when he arrived in America. He said, 'I did not know whether to go left or right.' He actually endured great difficulties, and it must have been very painful. At the same time, he relished the opportunity challenge, to spread Kṛṣṇa consciousness in the Western world and begin to fulfill the prediction of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, the previous Ācāryas, and his own Guru, Maharaja Bhakti Siddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura. So, we should take inspiration from that, that there's no challenge that we can't overcome. Prabhupāda is an Ācārya. Kṛṣṇa could have arranged for him to arrive in America in a flower airplane, but he's an ācārya. He teaches by example. 'Struggle for existence'—the human race, the only hope is divine grace. We also have the challenge to go out and distribute books, establish Kṛṣṇa conscious communities, and hold festivals in the world of Māyā, Yavana-deśa, and Mleccha-deśa. We can take strength from Śrīla Prabhupāda's example, that although it seemed almost impossible, an elderly gentleman, a sādhu, let us say, around my age, fearlessly boarded the ship and went to the West. Whatever result was obtained in Satya-yuga by meditating on Viṣṇu, in Tretā-yuga by performing sacrifices, and in Dvāpara-yuga by serving the Lord's lotus feet can be obtained in Kali-yuga simply by chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra. If you ever feel bewildered, don't feel so bad, because you're dealing with a very powerful force. But there is a solution, and it's given in the Bhagavad-gītā by Kṛṣṇa Himself. Near the end, He says, "What verse number is this? It's 18.58— 'mac-cittaḥ sarva-durgāṇi mat-prasādāt tariṣyasi, atha cet tvam ahaṅkārān na śroṣyasi vinaṅkṣyasi': 'If you become conscious of Me, you will pass over all the obstacles of conditioned life by My grace. If, however, you do not work in such consciousness but act through false ego, not hearing Me, you will be lost.'" This is a strong case for chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa every day. Number one, chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa means to take shelter of Kṛṣṇa through His names. It's a direct process. And if you ever feel bewildered by māyā—and who doesn't from moment to moment—the only solution ultimately is to take shelter of Kṛṣṇa, and the best way is through chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa. So take full shelter of chanting the holy name, especially completing at least 16 rounds a day if you've taken that vow. And Śrīla Prabhupāda made many assurances that if you do that and follow the four regulative principles, māyā can't touch you. That's amazing because māyā is so powerful, she bewilders everyone. But if we take shelter in that proper way, then we'll notice for ourselves. It's not that somebody else has to tell us—we'll see it for ourselves. You find a person, anybody in the crowd, and they want to say they want to hear Hare Kṛṣṇa. They want to come closer to Kṛṣṇa. And you go out of your way to facilitate them. You give them a chair, you give them water, you give them whatever they want, and let them be there and hear the holy name because you know that that's first-class worship of the Lord within the heart. Because tapyante 'loka-tāpena sādhavaḥ prāyaśo janāḥ paramārādhanaṁ tad dhi puruṣasyākhilātmanaḥ (SB 8.7.44).' Lord Śiva says the statement—either Lord Śiva says, or Śukadeva Gosvāmī says about Lord Śiva. Look at Lord Śiva. When the time to save the universe came, he didn't hesitate. He took a sacrifice on himself. It's not really pleasant to drink poison, is it? No, it's not pleasant to drink poison. But Lord Śiva, when he saw the universe was being threatened and all the living entities, he said, "I'll do it." And so he swallowed it because he's the supreme mystic. He was able to hold it in his throat, and that's why his throat turned blue. So check everyone—if they've ever drunk poison, see a blue throat. Actually, you just die. Lord Śiva doesn't die because he's so powerful, but he did it, Śukadeva Gosvāmī says, as a form of worship because he understood that 'paramārādhanaṁ'. Ārādhanā means worship, and the paramārādhanaṁ means the supreme worship is 'tapyante loka-tāpena'. For the sake of helping the people of the world, all the living entities, you go out of your way. You perform some tapasya in order to save them, to do good for them. That's the best way to worship God, who is in everyone's heart because that's the purpose. Kṛṣṇa has a purpose for the creation, right? Yes, it's not random. It's not existentialism. That's like, "Oh, there's no meaning to the world." There is a meaning to the world, and the real meaning is to give every living entity a chance to go back to Godhead and not toil here in the material world. Kṛṣṇa is a person. It's not one thing. It's the thing. Kṛṣṇa is a person. He's the Supreme Person. And just know that His senses are perfect, and because His senses are perfect, He knows exactly what your sincerity is. And He's not like an ordinary person who may know or may not know—He knows. And you can offer yourself to Kṛṣṇa sincerely at any time, and the best way to stay connected with Him is through the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra, because it follows the Guru Paramparā. It's the recommended process. The dosage is already set up. If you want to increase your dosage and get all the way up to 16, and stay on that medication through your life, you're going to get well, and you're going to get better than well. You're going to rise to the highest level. So everything else goes on in the material world as if mechanical. We do the best we can there. It always goes sideways, whatever you do, but The Holy Name is always there for us, and it's always perfect, and Kṛṣṇa is always perfect. So just think of Kṛṣṇa, and remember, He's a person, always a person. He's got unlimited energies, and He comes to us directly in person, in His holy name. No diminishment of His absolute personality, fully present in His holy name and keep the transcendental vibration going. The mantra is like a flower airplane. Okay, so far? Is everyone's good ? Okay, so it's ready to take us up, and we have to, of course, board the plane. That's our job. The aircraft comes. The flower airplane is there, but we have to be ready to board the plane means you have to have a ticket in hand, means enthusiasm to chant. And when you go to the airport, they announce certain things. They ask you questions before you get on the board. One of them is, has anyone unknown to you given you anything to carry? Have they ever asked you that? They also ask you, did you pack your own bags? Or Did anybody else pack them? Put something in your bag? So when we're preparing to board the airplane, we have to know who gave us what's in our consciousness. Has our awareness been under our control at all times? Has anybody unknown to you, like some random person on the internet and on TikTok given you something to hold in your mind of unknown origin? It is just random because it could be dangerous,. And so we have to prepare ourselves and get a ticket. In the United Airlines website for the boarding process, they say we are dedicated to providing convenience and comfort throughout your journey with United and are always looking for ways to improve your overall experience. So in the same way, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu wanting to give everyone an opportunity to board the flight back to Goloka Vṛndāvan, gives this convenience of The holy name that anybody can board. They're just a few simple rules to get on the flight. You have to be sincere and you have to show up. And then there's avoiding the 10 offenses, a few prerequisites for boarding. So that's our part. But Caitanya Mahāprabhu has given the ultimate convenience that in this age, all you have to do is chant Hare Kṛṣṇa.
