...in which we delve into a remarkable oral history archive to paint a picture of the historic Cumbrian commons as they enter a period of profound change. In the company of local-born John Hastwell and project officer Amanda Walters, we listen to farmers past and present as they discuss the hard-graft reality of grazing the fells of the Westmorland Dales: the northern Howgills and Tebay; the Pennine fringes; Orton Fells and Wild Boar Fell. Relishing a bounty of Westmerian accents, we consider how the commons have been used for centuries – not only for grazing, but also for supplying fuel, wool and building materials. We evoke the satisfaction of gathers past, where thousands of sheep were rounded from the common, and note the efforts required to establish and maintain a heft. The traumas of hard winters and Foot and Mouth are recalled, as are the perils of 'totter bogs', chats with M6 truck drivers... and the wrong DofE footwear. We close by reflecting on the many changes unfolding on these eastern heights – more trees; fewer sheep; less food; and a compromised farming system – before hearing from those who have left farming behind for good. The Westmorland Dales' 'Our Common Heritage' oral history project was inspired by Friends of the Lake District, which owns Little Asby Common in the heart of the Westmorland Dales. It was one of many projects delivered through the Westmorland Dales Landscape Partnership, led by Friends of the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority. Full interviews can be accessed at Cumbria Archives in Kendal and the Dales Countryside Museum in Hawes.
Bec and Zoe recap on the interview the week prior, the impact it's had on them as individuals, and how they both drew different ideas from their guest and implement changes in the endeavour to change it up, or give it a go. Then there is always a ramble involved (usually by Bec) where they chat about what's been happening and how they have or haven't managed their current juggle, in their attempt to not be super, but a woman. You've been waiting for a sign, I know you have. When I released my book, a dear friend said to me, "Juliette, the unedited journal entries in your book help me realize what's possible in my relationship with Jesus." Reflecting on her words inspired me to pull this audio from the vault recorded on April 4, 2022, at 1:53 a.m. I recorded this in real-time right after I hit "send" to my editor on the final manuscript, the typeset, to be sent off to the printer. It's raw and vulnerable and I didn't fight the tears, I let them flow with you (pardon the sniffles). A year ago today (how has it already been a year, people?), August 29, 2022, a little 13 year old's dream, of becoming a published author, was fulfilled. My first book, Watershed Warrior, was published with The Fedd Agency, and released to the world. On the last day of my audiobook recording, I was sitting in the studio with the audio engineer, JJ Plasencio and his beautiful wife, Melissa, and he said, "Jules, you just breathed-out a book!" God has taken my words to places my feet have never been and to people I have never met. Relishing in His goodness, reflecting on His faithfulness. Pause with me for a moment and feel the rhythm of your own breath moving through your lungs. Maybe Shania Twain said it best in her song Inhale/Exhale AIR, "What you gonna do with that air?" You were looking for a "sign" to write your book, right? Since the beginning of my writing process in 2020, countless people have said to me, "I know I'm supposed to write a book." Here's my question for you fellow humans, "What does it feel like to have a book inside of your soul unwritten?" Can you take anymore? I write because I must. The pen is my sword I steward with utmost care and I wield it in hopes of igniting fire inside of every willing reader to pioneer their freedom! I hope you enjoy this bonus episode of Yellow Soul and if you're ready to write that unwritten book, I've included some information in this ep to help you get started! Welcome to an episode that truly strikes at the core of why we hustle, strive, and invest: the pursuit of Freedom. This intangible yet immensely powerful concept is not just about financial independence, but more importantly, it's about time liberation—the ability to command your own clock and spend it on what truly matters. In today's conversation, we place the spotlight on the heart of freedom: Relationships. Investing time in our loved ones is the greatest dividend-paying venture we can engage in. Relishing moments with your children, cherishing every laughter, every tear, every memory, will never lead to regrets. Conversely, an excess of work, at the expense of family and friends, might just be a source of remorse later on. Remember this: As you watch your kids grow, it's a universal sentiment that you will yearn for more of those precious moments spent with them. Time, my dear listeners, is an unforgiving sprinter; it rushes past before you know it. Today, I am here not just as a host, but as a reminder and a mirror, urging you to keep the reasons for your diligence at the forefront of your consciousness. I implore you to take a moment today for introspection. Ask yourself, "Am I devoting ample time to the people I love?" This episode is a call to remember what's important and to encourage a balance between the pursuit of freedom and the nurturing of relationships. Together, let's make the journey of life not just about success, but about significance. Summer has begun. Winter and Spring have said goodbye for now! Or maybe they are saying…”Look what's next!! - We'll be back! But look what we've brought you! -Enjoy the summer!” Summer to many of us… means simple. Slowing down. A little easier maybe?Relishing the warm days, the nights with the crickets coming out and saying, “Thank you Summer! Over and over and over and over and over and over again. Gratefully expressing themselves!! The summer floral quilts over the plains and the mountains… in our backyards, on our patios, or maybe just on our little windowsill. They're enjoying the summer. Pretty simply. They grow, they bloom, they search for the sun..they color the soil above from which they are growing. They simply move with the breeze.Simple. Like breathing. Maybe we can use Summer …. To simplify. To make things calmer. To slow down, To find peace and wisdom, moments of meditation – as well as joyful exhuberations. Start your day by simply giving thanks that another day is yours. You've been given an amazing gift. Listen for the spoon clanging next to your cup as you stir your coffee or tea in the morning. It's calling you to find the quiet when it stops…. It's calling you to say, “Now my job is done… and I bet this is going to taste great.” Breathe. Begin the day with a simple task…Make your bed…. And when those pillows get plopped just the way you want, and the comforter gets pulled up just where you like…. Take a moment to remember how amazingly fortunate we are for the warmth, the comfort, the coverings. For some have only a floor, some have only a sidewalk, some have only a rough patch of ground with some old, and I mean old, padding. Remind yourself the bed is there again for you tonight…. When darkness and quiet settles in and calls us to rest. And breathing while we are sleeping, restoring us even more than during the day's inhales and exhales. Over and over and over and over and over again. Breathe. Water your plants…. You are nourishing them. Nourish yourself and your body the next time you take a long drink of water…or sit down for an evening meal…..and take your time to drink that single glass of water… or to savor each bite….all of which sustains you. And then…. Breathe. Give thanks, give thanks, that you have nurtured and nourished yourself as well as those plants in your kitchen window. Encourage yourself to make simple choices this summer…small steps, little chores, minute decisions. They are all progress. Enjoy the warm sun. Enjoy the pounding hard rains at night. Enjoy the cool evenings outside. And breathe. Meet up with a friend… call an old acquaintance. … and realize and trust that you may be giving them the best gift they've had in a long time. With each breath, know that you have engaged in a connection, knitting together memories and friendships. Breathe. Meet up with yourself. In your simple Summer, Take into account all that you have accomplished in life, all that you have accomplished today so far…. And give thanks. You are breathing. You are receiving daily bread…. In so many ways… the sunrise, the clouds breaking away to reveal blue skies, the small tasks that your body allows you to perform, the chores that might seem mundane, the exhilarating experiences that leave you in awe and wonder .. and you know?... even breathless. So breathe.. inhale.. exhale… Breathe it all in....Support the showSupport us here:https://www.bpcusa.org/financial-ministry/ BPC Youtube Channel:https://www.youtube.com/c/BrentwoodPresbyterianChurch

What does success mean to you? Does it include the way in which you live your life? If you see yourself as part of the human “family,” then how is your success both a part of that, and a reflection of that? Having been on both sides of the spiritual student and teacher relationship, I'm excited to welcome a spiritual master, Justin Gold, to Wisdom Talk Radio to share himself. The diverse themes of the five books that Justin (J Jaye Gold) has written speak not only to his eclectic perspective but to his eclectic history. From financial espionage to world travel, to spiritual seeking, he has captured the essence of living a life of success while upholding standards of human compassion and generosity. He contends that a balanced life includes both an inner and outer aspect and only with that balance can a person's aims be realized peacefully. The intentional community he established 40 years ago continues to support and nurture the process by which an individual can uncover their natural consciousness by learning to identify and remove the obstacles to a more harmonious existence.Find Justin Gold at JustinGold.net and ccns-inc.org Find Laurie Seymour at https://thebacainstitute.com/Want to reach out to me?
