Here's an excerpt from the Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Ādi-līlā, chapter four, in which Prabhupāda quotes from the Bhakti-sandarbha. This is the verdict of Jīva Gosvāmī in describing the process of chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa: "Chanting the holy name is the chief means of attaining love of Godhead. This chanting or devotional service does not depend on any paraphernalia, nor on one's having taken birth in a good family. By humility and meekness, one attracts the attention of Kṛṣṇa. That is the verdict of all the Vedas. Therefore, if one becomes very humble and meek, he can easily attain the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa in this age of Kali. This is the fulfillment of all great sacrifices, penances, and austerities, because when one achieves ecstatic love of Godhead, he attains the complete perfection of life. Therefore, whatever one does in executing devotional service must be accompanied by the chanting of the holy name of the Lord, the chanting of the holy name of Kṛṣṇa: Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare, Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare.' ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
Well one is to express gratitude. One of my godbrothers told me, while we were traveling, and this is an example of getting something valuable from association. He said, every morning when he wakes up, as soon as he swings out of bed and puts his feet on the floor (of course, if you're a brahmacārī—I don't know how you're going to do that), but before he stands up, he says, 'Thank you, Śrīla Prabhupāda.'" And I said, "I'm going to start doing that too." So I started doing that upon getting up. And then I started saying, "Thank you, Kṛṣṇa." I'd say it a few times until I was chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa. I'd say, "Thank you, Kṛṣṇa. Thank you, Kṛṣṇa. Thank you, Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare, Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma." And then when I'm chanting my japa, I'm thinking, "Thank you, Kṛṣṇa. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
Hearing the voice of his master, Kirāta, suddenly stood up, breaking the anthill. And as he emerged from the anthill, Nārada said, "Your name is Vālmīki." In Sanskrit, the word Vālmīki means "one who emerged from an anthill," chanting over decades, centuries, being absorbed in the mantra. His heart became pure. He was a new person. He made his journey to meet Sītā and Rāma, and as we know from the Rāmāyaṇa, he took to a life of compassion. What's more, he became so empowered by chanting the Rāma mantra that he was appointed the to be the author of the Rāmāyaṇa. And so powerful was the name of Rāma in his life that he wrote the pastimes of Rāma as if he was seeing them in his own room. They were taking place right before his eyes, and all he had to do was write down the activities in detail, which formed the Rāmāyaṇa. Śrīla Prabhupāda brought the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra and distributed it literally everywhere. He brought it. People would come together. I was in San Francisco today with a group of very new participants in the Kṛṣṇa Consciousness Movement. And I took them to a couple of places in the city where the old temple used to be and where Prabhupāda used to stay. They were walking behind me, and I noticed that they couldn't stop chanting, "Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare, Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare." Everywhere he went, they kept the vibration going, and I felt the same power. Anyone from any position of life, whether one be a Kirāta or a person on the street in San Francisco, or what to speak of somebody with a high birth being born from devotee parents who takes the sacred name of the Lord and repeats it again and again—well, certainly, as the Bhāgavatam says, āpannaḥ saṁsṛtiṁ ghorāṁ, yan-nāma vivaśo gṛṇan, tataḥ sadyo vimucyeta, yad bibheti svayaṁ bhayam—the Lord gives protection to anyone who calls His name. What's more, by chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa, the heart becomes pure, and one can see the Lord directly, just as Vālmīki saw the pastimes of the Lord. Those who chant Hare Kṛṣṇa will come to know their eternal relationship with Kṛṣṇa. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/ https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
There's a devotee named Sudāma who dressed up as a Hare Kṛṣṇa in Hawaii for Halloween. And on a dare, his friends told him, "Why don't you jump in the van with the Hare Kṛṣṇas?" because they go out chanting on Halloween. And being a joker or a prankster, he jumped in, and then he took it a step further by getting in the van with them and going home and taking prasādam. And it was all fun and games, and it was to impress his friends. Then he found himself on the other side of the world. He was back in Boston, going to school, and he became very depressed about his life. And then he met a devotee who had a book table, and he got a book, and then he remembered his experience with the Hare Kṛṣṇas. So, in the Caitanya-caritāmṛta, there's a description—the gopīs talk about Kṛṣṇa as being very sticky. They say, "Be careful of Him, because He's like mango sap. If you get mango sap in your hair, you just got to chop it off, because you're not going to get it out. It won't come out—mango sap!" So they said, "Kṛṣṇa is like mango sap. He gets in you and you can't get Him off." And Rūpa Gosvāmī says, yad-ābhāso 'py udyan kavalita-bhava-dhvānta-vibhavaḥ"- even if somebody is in complete abject darkness and ignorance, if they hear "Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare, Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare," then Rūpa Gosvāmī says that even that person in complete ignorance, they get a feeling for bhakti. It awakens in their heart because the holy name goes in their ears. It dances in their heart and it awakens their sense of bhakti. But as he said, when he landed or arrived in Boston, New York, after a long, arduous journey with two heart attacks and, later on, several strokes as well, he said that the reason my mission in the West was successful is because I had faith in two things. This is very important for us because we want to become like Śrīla Prabhupāda, not that we can become Śrīla Prabhupāda, but follow in his footsteps. He said, 'I had faith in two things.' This is why his mission was successful and continues to expand over the next 10,000 years with the movement of saṅkīrtana, the movement of Lord Caitanya, the Golden Age of Kali Yuga. He said, 'I had faith in two things, the instructions of my spiritual master, and the chanting of Hare Kṛṣṇa. Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare, Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare.' Now it's all history. We tend to think back and look at how Prabhupāda boarded the ship. He went across the ocean. The captain said he'd never seen the Atlantic Ocean so calm in his whole life as a sailor. But Prabhupāda endured extremely difficult circumstances. Again, he had heart attacks. It was a long journey. I can't imagine what he had to eat when he arrived in America. He said, 'I did not know whether to go left or right.' He actually endured great difficulties, and it must have been very painful. At the same time, he relished the opportunity challenge, to spread Kṛṣṇa consciousness in the Western world and begin to fulfill the prediction of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, the previous Ācāryas, and his own Guru, Maharaja Bhakti Siddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura. So, we should take inspiration from that, that there's no challenge that we can't overcome. Prabhupāda is an Ācārya. Kṛṣṇa could have arranged for him to arrive in America in a flower airplane, but he's an ācārya. He teaches by example. 'Struggle for existence'—the human race, the only hope is divine grace. We also have the challenge to go out and distribute books, establish Kṛṣṇa conscious communities, and hold festivals in the world of Māyā, Yavana-deśa, and Mleccha-deśa. We can take strength from Śrīla Prabhupāda's example, that although it seemed almost impossible, an elderly gentleman, a sādhu, let us say, around my age, fearlessly boarded the ship and went to the West. Thank you everyone for joining the Hare Kṛṣṇa Dance Party. Today it is going on in over 1000 cities across the world, special celebration to give gratitude this weekend. The fact that we live in a universe that is perfectly ordered—so much so that we have "ologies," otherwise, we would not be able to make sense of anything unless there is some order in the universe—not complete randomness, that traces back to universal divine intelligence we call Kṛṣṇa. We are celebrating the fact that life is sacred. If we look within, we notice our consciousness; we notice that it is brilliant, that it is full of knowledge, that it is eternal. Every living being is part of the Supreme; we all emanate from the same source. This chanting, which was brought to the world by the great Śrī Chaitanya Mahāprabhu 500 years ago, is a means of self-realisation. Sound vibration pervades the universe, and when we elevate the sound vibration in our life—what to speak of when we make divine sound by this prayer, "Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare"—this is a universal prayer which means, "O my Lord, O energy of the Lord, please engage me in Your service." So, Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu recommended for the present age the powerful method of chanting this mantra, especially in downtown San Francisco together with all our friends. This is a means for elevating the consciousness not just of those who are chanting, but anyone who hears. We are praying for the happiness of everyone in the world by realizing that we all come from the same divine source. So, Śrīla Prabhupāda is called A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda, Abhay Caraṇāravinda. He takes shelter of the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa where there's no fear, Abhay. There's an acronym for fear: fear everything and run. You can turn it the other way: if you take shelter of Kṛṣṇa, face everything and rise. That's the modus operandi of somebody who feels fortified and protected by Kṛṣṇa like Prabhupāda. He faced everything and he rose. If we're able to take shelter of Kṛṣṇa and say, "It's your power, it's not mine. I completely hand over myself to you. I don't want anything for myself; it's all for your service," then we become fearless. The best way to declare that again and again is: Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare, Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare. That's how to become fearless—to put it all in Kṛṣṇa's hands and say that, "You take care of me, you maintain me, I'm just going to be your servant, that's it." Otherwise, there's anxiety and fear everywhere in the material world. There's one other element that I think is very important in chanting with full intention. That is to feel part of Lord Caitanya's mission. When I'm thinking about why I'm not getting some taste—I'm chanting, but how come I'm not feeling ecstasy—then I'll start getting mental, like, "Oh, I can't chant." But if we're thinking about spreading the saṅkīrtana movement when we're chanting, that how everyone can have an opportunity to come in contact with this, there's a sense of a mission in the chanting: "Let me do good for others. Kṛṣṇa, please empower me to be able to help other people." It's a completely different feeling and flow than thinking, "Why aren't I getting some spiritual bliss here?" If we can lean into that mood and have some stake in the saṅkīrtana movement, and as we're chanting, have an underlying prayer that, "Please let this saṅkīrtana movement spread everywhere in the world, please use me as an instrument to spread the holy name to as many people as possible," then we'll be able to have a taste in chanting the holy name, even if..." You can go anywhere: sit in your home, in your garden, you can be at work, and if you sincerely repeat the names of God and listen carefully, then you'll have this sense of direct communion with the Divine, with Kṛṣṇa. One of the teachers from antiquity said, "How focused should we be?" You should imagine yourself going to the ocean with a kuśa straw. It's got a little flat area on it, and you could use that as a tool to empty the ocean, to drain the ocean. How long do you think it would take, Braja Rāsa Bhāvana, to use a little straw, one drop at a time, to drain the entire Pacific Ocean? A long time. And he said, be prepared for that. If you want success, approach the simple process with such focus and determination: "I'm going to sit here with this one straw until I drain the whole ocean." Now there's another story connected with this, and this is what the great teachers talk about. There was a little bird. She lived by the seashore, and she laid her eggs along the sandy beach. And one day, the ocean personified came, and in a mood of being mean, stole her eggs. With a sweep of his hand, a wave, he reached out and grabbed them, pulled them into his waters, and then chuckled as the little bird seemed distressed. Isn't that mean? Say yes. So then the little bird puffed out her chest and walked to the ocean, even though she was such a tiny creature. She said, "You give my eggs back. That's my offspring. My duty is to protect them." And the ocean said, "Good luck, you're not getting them back." A bully. So she said, "I'll show you," and my mother used to say, "Never underestimate the power of 'I'll show you.' So she sat there at the ocean. She began to peck out the water of the ocean, saying, "I'm going to drain you one drop at a time." And what did the ocean say? "Hahaha, good luck, it'll never happen." An audience started to gather around to watch her determination. All the creatures who saw her trying to drain the ocean began to talk amongst themselves, and it spread from one forest to the next. All the birds were talking, and then the mongooses picked up on it. They live under the trees, they passed it on, and they started talking about it, and it spread so far that the very powerful, heroic bird Garuḍa—we saw a license plate on the way here that said "Garuḍa," so I thought I'd tell the story—Garuḍa heard about it. Who is Garuḍa? He is the powerful carrier of Lord Vishnu. He came down to see his sister bird and he landed there and said, "What's going on?" She said, "I'm going to drain this ocean." And he said to the ocean, "You give the eggs back or I'll dry you up myself. With my wingspan, I'll flap so hard that the air will evaporate you now." The ocean then became frightened because Garuḍa is not an ordinary bird, and gave the eggs back. That's a story the ancient teachers tell. In the practice of chanting the mantra, if we approach it like that, willing to peck out every drop— you can imagine it when you're chanting one mantra: "Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare," and if you like, you can use beads. Normally, they have 108 beads on each one. If you hold on to each one, you say each bead is one drop, and I'll keep going till the whole ocean's drained. This is the idea of what Kapiladeva said: be willing to do this for a long time. Not, "I'll try it for a week, and if it works, maybe." You have to get enough knowledge intervention in your mind to see material world is as all risk, no gain, and spiritual life as all gain, no risk. But you have to be all in, to be successful. If you do that, and you practice in that way, then very soon you'll get help that you never imagined you would get. And that's something Kṛṣṇa says throughout the Bhagavad-gītā. "I'm there to help you. As soon as you show your determination, then I'll be there to intervene in your life and help you in ways that you could never imagine." (excerpt from the talk)
nāhaṁ tiṣṭhāmi vaikuṇṭhe yogināṁ hṛdayeṣu vā tatra tiṣṭhāmi nārada yatra gāyanti mad-bhaktāḥ “My dear Nārada, actually I do not reside in My abode, Vaikuṇṭha, nor do I reside within the hearts of the yogīs, but I reside in that place where My pure devotees chant My holy name and discuss My form, pastimes and qualities.” Because of the presence of the Lord in the form of the transcendental vibration, the Vaikuṇṭha atmosphere is evoked. This atmosphere is without fear and anxiety. One living entity does not fear another. By hearing the holy names and glories of the Lord, a person executes pious activities: śṛṇvatāṁ sva-kathāḥ kṛṣṇaḥ puṇya-śravaṇa-kīrtanaḥ (Bhāg. 1.2.17). Thus his material hankerings immediately stop. This saṅkīrtana movement started by the Society for Krishna Consciousness is meant for creating Vaikuṇṭha, the transcendental world that is without anxiety, even in this material world. The method is the propagation of the śravaṇaṁ kīrtanam process throughout the world. In the material world everyone is envious of his fellow man. Animalistic envy exists in human society as long as there is no performance of saṅkīrtana-yajña, the chanting of the holy names: Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare. The Pracetās therefore decided to remain always in the society of devotees, and they considered that to be the highest benediction possible in human life. It is not very astounding, for no one in this life can chant the holy name of the Lord unless he has passed all lower stages, such as performing the Vedic ritualistic sacrifices, studying the Vedas and practicing good behavior like that of the Āryans. All this must first have been done. Just as a student in a law class is to be understood to have already graduated from general education, anyone who is engaged in the chanting of the holy name of the Lord — Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare — must have already passed all lower stages. It is said that those who simply chant the holy name with the tip of the tongue are glorious. One does not even have to chant the holy name and understand the whole procedure, namely the offensive stage, offenseless stage and pure stage; if the holy name is sounded on the tip of the tongue, that is also sufficient. It is said herein that nāma, a singular number, one name, Kṛṣṇa or Rāma, is sufficient. It is not that one has to chant all the holy names of the Lord. The holy names of the Lord are innumerable, and one does not have to chant all the names to prove that he has already undergone all the processes of Vedic ritualistic ceremonies. If one chants once only, it is to be understood that he has already passed all the examinations, not to speak of those who are chanting always, twenty-four hours a day. It is specifically said here, tubhyam: “unto You only.” One must chant God's name, not, as the Māyāvādī philosophers say, any name, such as a demigod's name or the names of God's energies. It may be questioned herein how the child can be fully Kṛṣṇa conscious within the womb of the mother without any paraphernalia with which to execute Kṛṣṇa consciousness. It is not necessary to arrange for paraphernalia to worship the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Viṣṇu. The child wants to remain within the abdomen of its mother and at the same time wants to become free from the clutches of māyā. One does not need any material arrangement to cultivate Kṛṣṇa consciousness. One can cultivate Kṛṣṇa consciousness anywhere and everywhere, provided he can always think of Kṛṣṇa. The mahā-mantra, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare, can be chanted even within the abdomen of one's mother. One can chant while sleeping, while working, while imprisoned in the womb or while outside. This Kṛṣṇa consciousness cannot be checked in any circumstance. The conclusion of the child's prayer is: “Let me remain in this condition; although it is very miserable, it is better not to fall a victim to māyā again by going outside.” (SB 3.31.21,purport) https://vedabase.io/en/library/sb/3/31/advanced-view/ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/ (USA only) https://thefourquestionsbook.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark
Similarly, one may speak very nicely from the rhetorical or grammatical point of view, which may be very much appreciated by a materialistic audience, but if one's words are not offered to the service of the Lord, they are useless. The holes of the ears are very small and can be filled with any insignificant sound, so how can they receive as great a vibration as the glorification of the Lord? The answer is that the holes of the ears are like the sky. As the sky can never be filled up, the quality of the ear is such that one may go on pouring in vibrations of various kinds, yet it is capable of receiving more and more vibrations. A devotee is not afraid of going to hell if he has the opportunity to hear the glories of the Lord constantly. This is the advantage of chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare. One may be put in any condition, but God gives him the prerogative to chant Hare Kṛṣṇa. In any condition of life, if one goes on chanting he will never be unhappy. Māyā means “mercy,” “specific knowledge” and also “illusion.” Therefore Lord Boar is everything; He is merciful, He is all knowledge, and He is illusion also. The sound which He vibrated as the boar incarnation was answered by the Vedic hymns of the great sages in the planets Janaloka, Tapoloka and Satyaloka. The highest intellectual and pious living entities live in those planets, and when they heard the extraordinary voice of the boar, they could understand that the specific sound was vibrated by the Lord and no one else. Therefore they replied by praying to the Lord with Vedic hymns. The earth planet was submerged in the mire, but on hearing the sound of the Lord, the inhabitants of the higher planets were all jubilant because they knew that the Lord was there to deliver the earth. Therefore Brahmā and all the sages, such as Bhṛgu, Brahmā's other sons, and learned brāhmaṇas, were enlivened, and they concertedly joined in praising the Lord with the transcendental vibrations of the Vedic hymns. The most important is the Bṛhan-nāradīya Purāṇa verse Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare. This hearing process is very important. Lord Caitanya, who preached Kṛṣṇa consciousness in the modern world, gave great stress to hearing because if the common man simply hears from authoritative sources he can progress, especially, according to Lord Caitanya, if he hears the transcendental vibration Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare. It is stated, therefore, that all men should take advantage of hearing from realized souls and gradually become able to understand everything. The worship of the Supreme Lord will then undoubtedly take place. Lord Caitanya has said that in this age no one needs to change his position, but one should give up the endeavor to understand the Absolute Truth by speculative reasoning. One should learn to become the servant of those who are in knowledge of the Supreme Lord. If one is fortunate enough to take shelter of a pure devotee, hear from him about self-realization and follow in his footsteps, one will be gradually elevated to the position of a pure devotee. In this verse particularly, the process of hearing is strongly recommended, and this is very appropriate. Although the common man is often not as capable as so-called philosophers, faithful hearing from an authoritative person will help one transcend this material existence and go back to Godhead, back to home. (BG 13.26, purport)
Then he began the mantra – Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare / Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare. They responded, too low and muddled at first, but he returned it to them again, singing it right and triumphant. Again they responded, gaining heart, ringing karatālas and clapping hands – one … two … three, one … two … three. Again he sang it alone, and they stayed, hanging closely on each word, clapping, beating cymbals, and watching him looking back at them from his inner concentration – his old-age wisdom, his bhakti – and out of love for Swamiji, they broke loose from their surroundings and joined him as a chanting congregation. Swamiji played his small drum, holding its strap in his left hand, bracing the drum against his body, and with his right hand playing intricate mṛdaṅga rhythms. Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare / Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare. He was going strong after half an hour, repeating the mantra, carrying them with him as interested onlookers gathered in greater numbers. A few hippies sat down on the edge of the rug, copying the cross-legged sitting posture, listening, clapping, trying the chanting, and the small inner circle of Prabhupāda and his followers grew, as gradually more people joined. Have you ever talked to a sociopath? According to the Fifth Edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (or DSM-5), sociopathy is a category of antisocial personality disorder. A sociopath is someone with interior, social, and pathological impairments to their personality. Sociopaths will say anything to get their way, even if that means bending the truth and manipulation. Do you suspect you may be dealing with a sociopath right now? In this video, we present to you some of the things a sociopath would say to help you understand what really goes through their minds. As a disclaimer, we want to note that these phrases alone don't define a sociopath. Language is just a small piece of a larger puzzle. In other words, you may hear a friend or partner use phrases from this list, but that doesn't necessarily make him or her a sociopath. One must be very serious about self-realization and the practice of austerity. Unfortunately, the people of this Age of Kali do not even know the meaning of austerity. Under these circumstances, the Lord has appeared as Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu to bestow upon the fallen souls the easiest method of self-realization, technically called ceto-darpaṇa-mārjanam, cleansing of the dirt from the core of one's heart. This method is extremely simple. Anyone can chant the glorious kṛṣṇa-saṅkīrtana — Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare.
The entire atmosphere is surcharged with nescience. In such a condition, people do not become very enthusiastic to receive this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement, just as a diseased person suffering from jaundice does not relish the taste of sugar candy. However, one must know that for jaundice, sugar candy is the only specific medicine. Similarly, in the present confused state of humanity, Kṛṣṇa consciousness, the chanting of the holy name of the Lord – Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare – is the only remedy for setting the world aright. Although Kṛṣṇa consciousness may not be very palatable for a diseased person, Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī nonetheless advises that if one wants to be cured of the material disease, he must take to it with great care and attention. One begins his treatment by chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra because by chanting this holy name of the Lord a person in the material condition will be relieved from all misconceptions (ceto-darpaṇa-mārjanam). Avidyā, a misconception about one's spiritual identity, provides the foundation for ahaṅkāra, or false ego within the heart. The real disease is in the heart. If the mind is cleansed, however, if consciousness is cleansed, a person cannot be harmed by the material disease. To cleanse the mind and heart from all misconceptions, one should take to this chanting of the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra. This is both easy and beneficial. By chanting the holy name of the Lord, one is immediately freed from the blazing fire of material existence. If you'd like to read along: www.biglink.to/nectarofinstruction
The mind is always concocting objects for happiness. I am always thinking, “This will make me happy,” or “That will make me happy. Happiness is here. Happiness is there.” In this way the mind is taking us anywhere and everywhere. It is as though we are riding on a chariot behind an unbridled horse. We have no power over where we are going but can only sit in horror and watch helplessly. As soon as the mind is engaged in the process of Kṛṣṇa consciousness – specifically by chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare – then the wild horses of the mind will gradually come under our control. We must engage in Kṛṣṇa's service every moment of our lives in order to keep the restless and turbulent mind from dragging us from one object to another in a vain search for happiness in the temporary material world. yuñjann evaṁ sadātmānaṁ yogī vigata-kalmaṣaḥ sukhe na brahma-saṁsparśam atyantaṁ sukham aśnute “Thus the self-controlled yogi, constantly engaged in yoga practice, becomes free from all material contamination and achieves the highest stage of perfect happiness in transcendental loving service to the Lord.” (Gītā 6.28) Kṛṣṇa serves as a patron for one who is devoted to Him. When one is in difficulty, his patron saves him. As stated in the Bhagavad-gītā, Kṛṣṇa is the real friend of every living entity, and we have to revive our friendship with Him. The method for reviving this friendship is the process of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. By practice of Kṛṣṇa consciousness, mundane passionate hankering will come to a stop. This passionate hankering keeps us divorced from Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa is within us and is waiting for us to turn to Him, but we are too busy passionately eating the fruits of the tree of material desire. This passionate compulsion to enjoy these fruits must stop, and we must situate ourselves in our real identity as Brahman – pure spirit. | If you'd like to read: www.biglink.to/onthewaytokrishna
"There is no difference between this process and that process; the point is whatever process one follows, he must become God conscious. God is neither Moslem nor Hindu nor Christian - He is God. Nor are we to be considered Hindu, Moslem or Christian. These are bodily designations. We are all pure spirit, part and parcel of the Supreme. God is pavitram, pure, and we are also pure. Somehow or other, however, we have fallen into this material ocean, and as the waves toss, we suffer. Actually we have nothing to do with the tossing waves of material miseries. We must simply pray, "Kṛṣṇa, please pick me up." As soon as we forget Kṛṣṇa, the ocean of illusion is there, and it at once captures us. The chanting of Hare Kṛṣṇa is most important in order to escape from this ocean. Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare is a sound (śabda) that is non-different from Kṛṣṇa. The sound Kṛṣṇa and the original Kṛṣṇa are the same. When we chant Hare Kṛṣṇa and dance, Kṛṣṇa is also dancing with us. Of course we may say, "Well, I do not see Him," but why do we put so much stress on seeing? Why not hearing? Seeing, tasting, smelling, touching, and hearing are all instruments for experience and knowledge. Why do we put such exclusive stress on seeing? A devotee does not wish to see Kṛṣṇa; he is satisfied by simply hearing of Kṛṣṇa. Seeing may eventually be there, but hearing should not be considered any less important. There are things which we hear but do not see - the wind may be whistling past our ears, and we can hear it, but there is no possibility of seeing the wind. Since hearing is no less an important experience or valid one than seeing, we can hear Kṛṣṇa and realize His presence through sound. Śrī Kṛṣṇa Himself says, "I am not there in My abode, or in the heart of the meditating yogī but where my pure devotees are singing." We can feel the presence of Kṛṣṇa as we actually make progress." | Link to get your own copy or read: www.biglink.to/rajavidya | Find us on social media: Facebook "Sravanam Diaries" | Instagram & Tumblr @sravanamdiaries | Email: sravanamteam@gmail.com

Many austerities were performed in the Satya-yuga, Dvāpara-yuga and Tretā-yuga, but not in this Age of Kali. In this Kali-yuga, one can attain the same results simply by chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa mahā-mantra. Because the people of this age are fallen, the Lord is kind enough to give them the easiest method. Simply by chanting the Hare Kṛṣṇa mantra, one can attain the same results. However, as Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu points out, we are so unfortunate that we are not even attracted to chanting the mahā-mantra — Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare.

These are some of the reasons why Balarāma is known as Saṅkarṣaṇa, Balarāma or sometimes Rāma. In the mahā-mantra — Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare — people sometimes object when Rāma is accepted as Balarāma. But although devotees of Lord Rāma may object, they should know that there is no difference between Balarāma and Lord Rāma.
