Two Seattleites addicted to The Mouse: Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, Disney Vacation Club (Aulani)

Ever tried to shave hours off a brutal layover and accidentally triggered a full‑blown travel saga? We did. What started as a seamless return from a Disney cruise turned into delay creep, code share finger‑pointing, and a nine‑hour airport marathon, complete with mystery “boarding passes” and luggage that chose its own adventure through Chicago and Phoenix. We walk you through the decision that set it all off, ditching a late nonstop for a midday connection, and the cascading consequences when ORD slipped, one notification at a time. You'll hear how our reservation got split, why system-by-system rebooking can box you into worse seats, and how airline apps often contradict reality. We also share small wins that mattered: fellow passengers who swapped to give us windows, a gate agent who overrode nonsense, and Bobbi at Alaska Baggage Services who delivered service with real care when everything else felt broken. This story doubles as a practical survival guide. We break down why winter hubs plus tight connections are a risky combo, how AirTags expose the truth about your bags, and the callback trick that stops your iPhone from screening out the one number you actually need. We talk IAH logistics, why A3 gates are a power-hunt purgatory, and the comfort calculus of first class when traveling with a knee injury. Most of all, we leave you with hard rules we'll follow next time: bias to nonstops, avoid code shares for critical legs, build buffers, and keep meds, chargers, and sleep gear in your carry-on.If you've ever watched your plans unravel one delay at a time, you'll feel seen and, we hope, better armed for your next trip. Listen now, subscribe for our full Marvel Day at Sea trip report next week, and share your best airport hacks. The suitcase zippers are straining, work piled up all week, and a Disney Magic cruise is hours away. Perfect time to hit rewind to January 2022! We're taking you back to where our show began, re-airing our very first recording, and reintroducing the two nerds behind the microphones: Alicea and Nathan, high school sweethearts who moved from the East Coast to the Seattle area and accidentally became Disney adults. We unpack the numbers that shape our point of view: 14 Disney trips since 2009, 127 nights in Disney stays, and 11 cruises—two of them Panama Canal crossings, one finishing as the world was closing down. You'll hear the earliest sparks that made Disney stick, from a drumline turning onto Main Street with the castle dead ahead to the Wonderful World of Disney and Mousercise on vinyl. Then we rapid-fire through our favorites with practical detail: why Haunted Mansion still haunts us, why Rise of the Resistance feels more like cinema than a queue, and how PeopleMover earns its “underrated” crown. We talk DVC stays at Riviera and Aulani, the intimacy of the Disney Wonder, Garden Grill breakfasts that feel personal, and the eternal Dole Whip vs. churro standoff. This is also a map for what came next. We share how we keep up with Disney news without parroting headlines, how we'll handle topics like Genie+ only after firsthand use, and why our goal is to deliver weekly, focused episodes that help you plan smarter trips without losing the joy. Expect honest takes, usable tips, and plenty of park and cruise wisdom gathered from real itineraries. Have a question or a hot take? A nudge to apply turned into a no, then a yes, and finally a year that blended writing marathons, real‑time research, and friendships that feel like family. We sit down with McCayla to unpack how planDisney actually works: no secret databases, no cast‑member access—just rigorous accuracy, collaborative teamwork, and a love for helping guests make better memories at Disneyland, Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, and beyond. We walk through the three‑round application process and talk candidly about rejection, resilience, and the mysterious “fit” of each year's cohort. McCayla shares how training prepped her for the calendar‑year contract and what the weekly quota looks like when hot topics surge, from Lightning Lane strategy to Magic Key buzz and ticket linking. She reveals why better context in your question leads to better answers, and how panelists read between the lines when the format isn't built for back‑and‑forth.Beyond the inbox, you'll hear about media‑day magic at Disneyland's 70th celebration, filming a Disney Parks piece on the new family map, and the honest reality of answering when timelines move, like the long Napa Rose closure. The heart of it all is community: panelists spot‑checking details across resorts, swapping on‑site updates, and showing up for each other well beyond park talk. If you've ever considered applying to planDisney, or just want sharper, stress‑saving planning advice, this conversation is your blueprint for what it takes, why it's worth it, and how to keep your joy intact.Enjoyed the conversation? What if your training plan felt more like play than pressure? We sit down with Brittany Charboneau, the Funny Runner, whose blend of elite grit, Disney joy, and improv comedy turns marathons into stories worth telling. From sweeping the Dopey Challenge in 2022 to winning the Walt Disney World Marathon as a new mom here in 2026, Brittany shows how costumes, creativity, and community can transform the toughest miles. We trace her path from eighth grade track to professional trail and road racing, and why she refuses to be only “a runner.” Comedy training at Second City sharpened her mental game; themed weeks, curated playlists, and even a tutu or two keep the work fresh. She breaks down a brutally honest race day where nothing clicked, the self talk that almost sank her, and the moment she chose to ease, wave, take a quick character photo with Joy, and finish on her own terms.Run Disney fans will love the inside look at what makes these weekends different: pre-dawn corrals, park routes lined with characters, and a culture that cheers every pace. Brittany explains why there's no prize purse, why that's okay, and how the community spirit inspired her to jog out and encourage the final finisher, an act that went viral because it captured what running can be at its best. We also trade favorite rides, parks, and snack recs, and unpack how parenting reframed her motivation without stealing the fun.If you're chasing a PR, chasing vibes, or just chasing the courage to start, this conversation delivers practical mindset tools, joyful stories, and a reminder that the finish line belongs to everyone. Planning a 2026 Disneyland trip without drowning in tabs? We've got you. We walk through the year's biggest dates and smarter strategies, calling out the can't-miss festivals, the ride overlays that actually change your day, and the cultural moments that add heart to the parks. If you're torn between a spring food crawl or a fall haunt, this guide helps you pick your window and build a plan that fits your style and stamina. We start with early-year standouts: Lunar New Year at Disney California Adventure brings Mulan's procession, the Hurry Home pre-show before World of Color, character attire, and yes, irresistible food booths. February layers in Celebrate Soulfully with live gospel on the Downtown Disney stage and a heritage trail spanning both parks. We flag runDisney weekend as a crowd mover and give a quick reality check on what's included with a regular ticket versus extra-cost events. Anaheim Ducks Day pops in late February with limited wristband photo ops and a lively fan rally.Spring is where flavor leads. The California Adventure Food & Wine Festival (Mar 6–Apr 27) delivers chef demos, beverage seminars, tight LA studio bands, and the Sip and Savor play that makes tasting more wallet-friendly. We share a pro tip for the resort egg hunt: grab the keepsake when you pick up the map to avoid backtracking. Then come the Star Wars choices: Hyperspace Mountain returns Apr 28, while May 22 marks The Mandalorian and Grogu joining Smugglers Run and a looser Galaxy's Edge timeline. If you want thrills now or fresh canon later, your timing matters.Summer stretches the 70th celebration with park-wide decor, new character looks, and a Main Street theater exhibit featuring a surprisingly emotive Walt Disney animatronic. June 19 brings HBCU drumlines to Downtown Disney for a thunderous set you'll feel in your bones. On July 2, Soarin' Across America returns for the nation's semiquincentennial, likely feeding patriotic holiday surges. Fall ushers in Halloween Time from Aug 21–Oct 31 with Haunted Mansion Holiday, Cars Land overlays, nighttime projections, and seasonal snacks, before holidays begin Nov 18 with festive decor, parades, and fireworks. Along the way, we keep an honest eye on crowds, mobile order tactics, and where merch will tempt you most.If this helped you plan smarter or dream bigger, follow the show, share it with a Disney friend, and leave a quick review so more fans can find us. Doors close, choices open. We're diving headfirst into a cascade of Disney Would You Rather dilemmas that test how we think about mentors, sidekicks, power, and responsibility, all while keeping the fun at full throttle. From Yen Sid's steady hand to Merlin's lovable chaos, we explore what good guidance really looks like and why structure vs. spontaneity is a decision you make as much as a personality you have.We square off on sidekicks—Mushu's snark and magic versus Pascal's quiet loyalty—and unpack why conversation, humor, and a little dragon fire can change the course of a hero's journey. Then it's tools and power: Mary Poppins' bottomless carpet bag or the Robin Williams–level whirlwind of a rules-bound genie. We talk constraints, creativity, and why having limits can sharpen the wish you truly want. Add Maui's hook versus a magic carpet, and we hit the big question: is freedom the ability to go anywhere, or the power to become what the moment needs? Our map gets bigger with world choices: the neon tech of San Fransokyo or the layered communities of Zootopia. One of us craves invention and labs; the other dreams of social design that celebrates difference. We bring that lens to everyday life with Baymax's gentle healthcare support versus WALL·E's eco-minded cleanup—care for the body or care for the planet—and push further into team dynamics: the scrappy resilience of the Resistance or the specialized punch of the Avengers. Fashion even gets strategic with Edna Mode's tailored clarity against the Fairy Godmother's high-reach magic. And we end with the ultimate risk call: accept Maleficent's curse or negotiate Ursula's contract. Spoiler: we're reading the fine print and bringing a pen.Join us, pick your path, and tell us where you land. Start with fireworks, end with gratitude—that's the arc of a year that took us from Aulani sunsets and Alaska glaciers to hospital hallways and a comeback cruise. We pull back the curtain on twelve trips, a few legendary mishaps, and the wins that made 2025 feel both impossible and unforgettable. We revisit the Junior Theater Festival in Sacramento and the hidden gem that is Stage Nine's Disneyana trove. We talk first impressions of the Disney Treasure, why Trader Sam's remains a ritual, and how the Grand Californian turned a busy week into slow mornings. Then the plot twist: an aortic aneurysm that led to open-heart surgery, a deep-breath recovery, and a return to sea on the Disney Magic from San Juan to Galveston—with a sun-drenched stop at Lookout Cay. Add a total knee replacement to close the year and you've got a masterclass in pacing, patience, and planning.Looking ahead, we share the 2026 lineup: a concierge stay aboard the Disney Magic, Sterling's performance at Disney California Adventure during Food & Wine, and a seven-night Eastern Caribbean on the Disney Destiny that swaps routine ports for St. Martin, San Juan, and Lookout Cay. We'll catch July 4th fireworks from a Polynesian bungalow and maybe sneak in the US Open in New York, Halloween scares we missed last time, and a holidays finale split between the Big Island's volcano views and an Aulani New Year. Along the way, we dig into podcast stats—20,000 downloads, global listeners, and a surge fueled by guest stories and community energy—plus practical tips on staying smart in parks and on ships.Hit play to laugh at the mishaps, borrow our itineraries, and pick up strategies for making big trips feel doable. New magic is landing from every direction, and we're sorting the signal from the noise so you can plan with confidence. From Bluey stepping into the parks and onto the ships, to Electric Mayhem cranking up Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, to Autopia finally going electric, this week is packed with news that actually changes how you map a Disney trip. We walk through what's opening, what's closing, and what's getting better so you spend less time guessing and more time making great choices. On the East Coast, we dig into Walt Disney World updates: refreshed tech on Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin, a thoughtful reimagining of Hollywood Studios' Animation Courtyard, and Epcot's Flower and Garden Festival dates that anchor spring travel. Animal Kingdom's next chapter begins as DinoLand sets its farewell, while Frozen Ever After gets a visual lift with new animatronic faces. We also flag the take off date for Soarin' Across America and how limited-time overlays like The Mandalorian on Smugglers Run can flip a must-skip into a must-do.Out West, the long 70th celebration keeps Disneyland lively even as smart maintenance windows rotate key attractions. We break down Haunted Mansion and it's a small world returning from their holiday states, Rise of the Resistance scheduling, and the practical win of Autopia's electric conversion in 2026. California Adventure's event cadence stays strong with Lunar New Year and Food & Wine, and Bluey's Best Day Ever brings hands-on play to the Fantasyland Theatre—an easy anchor for family downtime between headliners. We also head to sea with Disney Cruise Line: the Disney Adventure's complex journey toward Singapore, Bluey programming rolling onto the Dream and Wish, and an intriguing West Coast outlook that could make short back-to-back sailings the savvy path to status. What happens when you hand your Hollywood Studios plan to a roulette wheel on a July Tuesday? We tested it—standby only, all ride types in play, casual sit down dining, storms looming—and discovered how randomness collides with Florida heat, crowd flow, and the realities of queue waits. From a lucky late-morning villains show to a brunch at Oga's that fueled vibes more than bodies, we followed the wheel into Smugglers Run, character meets, Slinky Dog at peak heat, Tower of Terror salvation, and a Baseline Tap House reset that saved the evening. We closed with Rock 'n' Roller Coaster, a quick AC break at Vacation Fun, and the sparkle of Fantasmic as fireworks framed the lessons learned.Along the way, we break down practical tactics for Hollywood Studios without Lightning Lane: anchor your day with one morning headliner, a true midday meal indoors, and an evening show; group Galaxy's Edge stops to reduce backtracking; use character experiences and theater shows as strategic AC breaks during storm windows; and respect the hidden time tax inside certain queues, especially Smugglers Run. We talk queue math, walk times, and why pretzels and charcuterie at Baseline can be the smartest thirty minutes you spend all day.If you crave spontaneity but don't want to sacrifice fun, this story-driven play-by-play will help you build rails around randomness. You'll hear where we went wrong, where we got lucky, and how small choices—shade, snacks, sequence—compound into either energy or exhaustion. Holiday cheer, knee-surgery jokes, and a stack of Disney Cruise Line would-you-rathers: we put our sea-day priorities to the test and uncover what actually makes a voyage unforgettable. From the big itinerary call—seven unhurried nights on the Disney Fantasy versus a Wish double dip at Castaway Cay—to the most controversial dining debate on the ocean, we weigh time, cost, and vibe to help you plan with purpose. We get honest about premium dining: Remy and Enchanté deliver exquisite, lingering dinners, while Palo brunch fuels your day without stealing it. Then it's relaxation versus thrills as we square off between endless AquaDuck or AquaMouse runs and a private cabana on Castaway Cay, complete with shade, chilled towels, and your own slice of calm. Entertainment choices spark strong opinions too—front-row Broadway-style shows versus fireworks from your balcony—and we explain why the longer, crafted experience often wins out.Shore days and tools matter more than you think. Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point dazzles with powder-soft sand and serene water, tempting even activity lovers away from Castaway's bike-and-snorkel combo. We also pit paper Navigators against the app with concierge help, and there's no contest when it comes to stress-free planning. Add in spa serenity versus fish extender chaos, a rare character breakfast victory over a Captain Minnie meet, and a few crossover curveballs—Hades in peak sass mode, dinner with the Madrigals, and the ultimate earworm showdown—and you've got a playful guide to dialing in your own perfect cruise. If you're mapping a DCL trip, this conversation is your shortcut to smarter choices and happier sea days. Think of a cruise that gives more than sunsets and selfies. We set out from San Juan on Disney Magic after a 15-year gap, fresh off real-life health hurdles, and built a trip around slow joy: a food-forward Puerto Rico layover, a rum masterclass at the Bacardí Founders Experience, and a calm-first plan onboard with concierge comforts, spa therapy, and long, quiet reads on the veranda.San Juan set the tone. The Flavors of San Juan tour steered us to small, soulful hits—guava-butter croissants, passion fruit paletas, ceviche, alcapurrias, and DIY mofongo—before a standout dinner at La Central reset our steakhouse expectations. At Bacardí, we tasted the spectrum from raw, punchy spirit to oak-softened elegance in their rackhouse, then bottled and waxed our own distillery-only reserve. Pro tip: skip the ferry and rideshare straight to the pavilion for smoother timing.Onboard, we leaned into what felt good. Animator's Palette still crescendos to Sorcerer Mickey, while Rapunzel's Royal Table brings ruffian comedy and a lantern-lit second act. Palo remains the surest bet—go a la carte at dinner for gnocchi and soufflé bliss, and protect brunch appetite for savory stars. Soul Cat Lounge became our hangout, with Soul Duo's live sets turning evenings into an easy groove. Not everything sparkled: bar service across ship and islands felt green and slow at times. Kind people, longer waits—worth noting if timing matters to you.Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point impressed. The landscaping has flourished, shade is thoughtful, and Serenity Bay's sand feels like powdered sugar underfoot. The water clarity blew us away, and the Goombay Cultural Center's Junkanoo celebration added authentic Bahamian culture you don't get at Castaway Cay. Speaking of Castaway, our short day still delivered familiar joy and a peek at upgrades coming to Serenity Bay. We wrapped in Galveston with decompression time and an unexpected Wicked screening, then headed home grateful for an itinerary that prioritized restoration. If you love Disney Cruise Line, San Juan food, rum tasting, Lookout Key insights, and real-world tips for sailing concierge, this one's for you. The drums hit before the curry cools, the Muses raise the roof, and a shadow man steals the show—Wesley's maiden voyage on Disney Destiny was packed with moments that surprised in the best ways. We're picking up where we left off last week to continue our look into Disney's newest cruise ship.We dig into Pride Lands' dinner theater, where gorgeous savannah lighting and rich design meet a sound mix that sometimes overwhelms the meal. The food is a genuine highlight—complex, abundant, and anchored by a standout shrimp curry—while we wrestle with the core question: how much concert belongs at the dinner table?Over in the Walt Disney Theatre, Disney Hercules lands with heart and swagger. Updated staging, sharp costumes, and a thoughtful new Meg song bring fresh energy without losing the movie's soul. We talk cast chemistry, why early runs improve fast, and how the Muses keep the momentum humming. Between shows, the ship's narrative threads come alive through interactive touchpoints—Loki's mischief, Cruella's flair, and especially Dr. Facilier's parlor, a 10-minute, worth-the-wait immersion that proves performance can transform a simple room into event theater.Shore days show the contrast between Castaway Cay and Lookout Key. Castaway remains the masterclass in Disney-style storytelling: visual “weenies,” intuitive flow, and that feeling of being guided from ship to sand. Lookout Key dazzles with pink sand, silky water, and quiet snorkeling spots, but it's spread out and light on narrative cues. We share what worked, what needs a Phase 2, and why both stops are worth your time for different reasons. Along the way, we trade practical tips on seating, lines, and sound, debate cruise-ship identity versus theme-park density, and spotlight Version 55.71—Wesley's passion project tracking Disney Parks changes like software updates (https://version5571.com).If you're weighing a maiden voyage, curious about Pride Lands, or planning days at Castaway and Lookout, this is your guide to the wins, the tradeoffs, and the can't-miss moments. Enjoy the ride, then tell us: would you brave the drums for that curry, and is Castaway still your number one? A brand-new Disney ship beckons, and Wesley answered the call. Welcome aboard a look at the Disney Destiny's maiden voyage, with sky-high expectations and the magic of a ship that tells its story through every surface. From a shockingly luxurious pre-cruise stay at Pier Sixty-Six with early check-in, poolside setup, and frozen grapes, to a blissfully efficient embarkation at Port Everglades, the tone was set before Wesley ever touched the Grand Hall's carpet. And yes, that Grand Hall hits different: layered lighting, dimensional railings, and a Black Panther centerpiece that feels more regal than fan-service.We dig into the ship's most talked-about spaces. The Sanctum became a go-to spot: open, cozy, and made for lingering. Haunted Mansion Parlor is exquisitely themed, a must-see once; DeVille's dazzles but suffers from early-sailing capacity crunch; Cask and Cannon surprised with great mini churros and pre-dinner vibes. Saga proved versatile for karaoke, game shows, and the standout Marvel comedy show, With Great Power—hosted by the ship's storytellers Gamble and Zayah, and paced like a theme-park live act with clever improv and a cheeky finale. It's labeled 18+, but the tone feels closer to PG-13, raising smart questions about family access and small-venue demand. We also compare stateroom function and storage to earlier classes, share practical packing strategies for a family of five, and talk about how Destiny's design cohesion sets it apart from “floating mall” competitors. The biggest friction point? Hype-driven crowd patterns and adults-only programming that can split families on short sailings. The likely cure is time—and better tools like virtual queues and clearer event labeling. If you love Imagineering details, layered storytelling, and lounges that feel like worlds, Destiny will pull you in. If you're chasing every hot venue, plan ahead, pick your must-dos, and be ready to pivot. This week it's Pixie Dust or Bust! Two lifetime perks. Ten platinum options. One ruthless scoring system. We set out to answer a question Disney fans argue about forever: which benefits would actually deliver the most joy, value, and ease over a lifetime of trips? We walk through a stacked slate of choices: Club 33 memberships on both coasts, six concierge-level Disney Cruise Line sailings every year, two Adventures by Disney trips annually, a home in Golden Oak, twelve VIP tours a year, free dining across property, free stays at any Disney resort, always-on Minnie Van access, and a one-week stay every year at every Disney parks resort worldwide. Then we do the hard thing: assign weighted scores for value, frequency, uniqueness, convenience, and wow factor. As the numbers land, expectations get flipped. Club 33 Disneyland outshines Disney World's lounges. Free rooms quietly beat free dining. VIP tours carry more day-to-day value than most people think. And a global Disney week challenges even the dream of six luxury cruises.Along the way we share why nostalgia matters, how logistics shape real vacations, and where prestige takes a back seat to flexibility. We debate Golden Oak versus unlimited resort stays, ABD's cultural depth versus DCL's restorative pace, and whether convenience perks like Minnie Vans can ever rival line-skipping power. Our final rankings deliver a surprise at the top and a few hot takes, but we also reveal our personal two picks, grounded in how we actually travel: slow mornings, stress-free days, and time to savor the magic.Which two would you lock in for life and why? A nervous dad, two small kids, and a head full of Six Flags memories walk into Hollywood Studios—and everything changes on Slinky Dog Dash. We invited fellow creator Jarrett to share the real story of taking a young family to Walt Disney World after decades away: planning paralysis, stroller logistics, and the unexpected magic of cast members who turn chaos into calm.We dig into the moment Galaxy's Edge flipped a switch and turned a four year old's casual curiosity into full-on Star Wars fandom, from Kylo Ren's patrol to a life-changing meet with Darth Vader. You'll hear how a simple popcorn bucket became crisis control, why Pop Century and the Skyliner are clutch for parents, and how to balance the urge to “do it all” with strategies that keep toddlers regulated and adults sane. We also talk food realities when kids only want pizza and chicken strips, plus why Disneyland's snack scene and walkable layout might be the next best move. Then we stack parks against a Disney cruise: built-in childcare, stress-free dining, and slower rhythms versus kinetic wonder, character moments, and confidence-building rides. Jarrett shares what he'd do differently next time, how to time shorter Magic Kingdom days around party nights, and why the best plan is sometimes to plan less. Whether you're choosing between cruise or castle, or plotting both, you'll get practical tips, candid takeaways, and a reminder that the right moment often finds you when you stop forcing it.If this helped your planning brain unclench, follow the show, share it with a Disney-loving friend, and leave a quick review so more families can find us.You can find Jarrett at jswordsmith.com and on Instagram and Threads at @js_wordsmith.----Adventures & Mousecapades is a passion project from Alicea & Nathan Novak - two Seattleites addicted to The Mouse. Holiday season at Disney is more than lights and garland—it's a choose-your-own-adventure of music, culture, food, and after-hours magic. We dive into what's new, what's worth your time, and how to shape a plan that fits your vibe, whether you're a parade chaser, a foodie, or a character hunter. On the West Coast, Disneyland Park sparkles with snoap, shimmering castle lights, and the long-running Christmas Fantasy Parade, while the Fantasyland Theater turns into a cozy hub of crafts, carols, and animated shorts. Over at Disney California Adventure, the Festival of the Holidays brings Epcot-style energy to Anaheim with diverse entertainment like Viva Navidad, Mirabel's Gifts of the Season, and live mariachi near Carthay Circle. Cars Land overlays add charm, and hotel dining debuts striking Christmas Carol character costumes that nail the playful, ghostly aesthetic. Pro tip: grab your Downtown Disney ornament hunt prize when you pick up the map!In Florida, Magic Kingdom's Frozen Holiday Surprise transforms the castle, Jingle Cruise leans into seasonal puns, and two big-ticket nights split the audience: Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party for classic cookies-and-parade nostalgia and Disney's Jollywood Nights for live jazz, Muppet-hosted spectacle, and rare meet-and-greets. The ship greeted our guests Ryan and Tegan with a surprise: a pumpkin tree called Ginger, glowing at night with character-carved pumpkins and just enough Halloween vibe to make the decks feel new. From there, this sailing became a golden birthday story—father–daughter photos on formal night, a cake from the dining team, and a towel-cake masterpiece waiting in their stateroom. Of course they didn't abandon the classics: Tegan still chased Broadway-style shows, met characters on the fly, and Ryan found quiet moments on a midship veranda as the Eastern Caribbean drifted by.What stood out most? Choice. Younger cruisers looped trick-or-treat stations for as much candy as they could carry, while teens enjoyed a surprisingly chill Edge and Vibe thanks to school-season timing. They caught the Sanderson Sisters, then sprinted to a rare Oogie Boogie meet-and-greet where he made them dance and applauded Tegan's pirouette. Because the Treasure is new and sailing near capacity, they expected crowds—but the kid density felt lighter, which meant easier access to lounges, shows, and those spontaneous character moments in hallways and stairwells that parks can't always deliver. We get practical too. If you're planning a surprise cruise, match the reveal to your kid's style and consider weather season; two weeks out hit the sweet spot for packing, costumes, and excitement without spiraling into hurricane-tracking anxiety. Book late and be flexible on staterooms; book early if room category matters. And if you're debating a themed sailing, think of Halloween on the High Seas as a refined bonus: character costume rotations, atmospheric décor, and a tree lighting that adds texture without taking over your itinerary.Come aboard our Halloween recap for tips, stories, and the kind of Disney Cruise Line details that help you plan your own memory-rich voyage. The monorail doors slide open and we step into a milestone: 200 episodes of Adventures and Mouscapades! What began as two Disney fans recording the conversations we were already having has become a tight-knit community, a growing library of trip reports and DVC reviews, and a surprising bridge to guests we once thought were out of reach. We pull back the curtain on how we make the show, what we've learned over the last 4 years, and why we still chase the spark that makes a park day, a cruise, or a cast member story unforgettable. We revisit favorite conversations—from performers who changed how we view parades to fellow podcasters who sharpened our planning game—and share the episodes that resonated most. Aulani led our charts, Alaska cruise tales kept pace, and our D23 recap with Scott Gustin reminded us that clear, grounded news analysis always finds an audience. Along the way we talk honestly about the work behind each episode: the two-to-three hours of editing per hour of tape, the decision to keep YouTube simple for podcast listeners, and the reality that social media is still a work in progress. Then we look forward. More DVC resort reviews, design-your-perfect-day games, and “golden ticket” constraints are coming. Our calendar is stacked with fresh fuel for the feed: a November cruise, a family sailing in February, a spring break stop in Anaheim, and a summer Florida trip topped off by a bucket-list Fourth of July fireworks view from a Polynesian bungalow. We're also eyeing the Disney Destiny and a nostalgic return to St. Maarten. Through it all, the goal stays the same: practical planning tips, honest stories, and the kind of warmth that makes even a small show feel like home.Want to be part of it? The name call at boarding barely landed before Daniel and Callae's kids started pointing at everything—the chandelier, the horn, the characters waving from above. That set the tone for a retirement celebration that doubled as a first Disney cruise for a 17-person crew, and the story only got better from there. We dive into why a smaller ship (hello, Disney Magic) made big-family travel feel manageable, how YouTube tips both helped and melted away, and the simple choices that changed momentum—like swapping an embarkation buffet for a seated lunch and letting the older kids roam together to chase autographs.Castaway Cay brought warm rain and calm water that turned first-time snorkeling into legend. Nassau became an intentional “sea day” for slides and pools, a choice that saw nerves at the AquaDunk turn into hands-high triumph. And then Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point arrived with powdered-sugar sand, vivid “mermaid water,” and thoughtful design that feels like the Bahamas shaped by Disney, not dressed up as it. Trails, splash zones, and easy shade made it a place to linger, while cast members kept the day smooth—even when tired legs needed a golf cart back.Evenings brought Broadway-quality shows—Twice Charmed, Tangled, and a pinch-me finale with Disney Dreams—plus Pirate Night fireworks and family dance parties that stitched joy between generations. Rotational dining was a masterclass in hospitality: the same server team intuiting kids' orders, nudging us toward new flavors, and always, somehow, another perfect dessert. We talk kid clubs, Marvel meet-and-greets, soft-serve strategies, and the quiet win of seeing your stress score dip mid-cruise. If you're planning a first voyage—or wrangling a big group—this is a candid, detailed map of what worked, what they'd tweak, and why they're already eyeing Alaska out of Vancouver.Loved the journey? What happens when you combine Disney Vacation Club ownership, the Princess Half Marathon, and traveling with two toddlers? Pure magic, with a healthy dash of organized chaos! In this captivating episode, we chat with Kallie, a dedicated listener who turned her runDisney passion into the perfect excuse for her family's "welcome home" trip as new DVC owners. With her husband, two young children (ages 2 and 4), and the grandparents in tow, she embarked on a whirlwind February weekend at Disney's Riviera Resort.Kallie takes us through her meticulous planning - from securing race registration to booking character dining for her daughter's birthday at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall. Her family's adventures span Magic Kingdom madness with little ones, navigating EPCOT's Festival of the Arts, and the surreal experience of waking at 2:45 AM for a half marathon while on vacation. What makes this story particularly special is how Kallie balances adult Disney dreams with creating magical moments for her children. Her "standard view" room overlooking EPCOT fireworks becomes the backdrop for nightly adult relaxation after putting the kids to bed. And of course the grandparents provide crucial support, allowing Kallie, her husband, and their older son to occasionally experience attractions not suitable for toddlers. The episode offers practical wisdom for any Disney traveler - from using backpacks instead of loose items when folding strollers for bus transportation to the unexpected delight of Riviera's signature cookies (complete with pistachios, walnuts, and dried cherries). Kallie's infectious enthusiasm for Disney, from her childhood visits to now creating memories with her own children, reminds us why these vacations hold such special places in our hearts.Whether you're considering DVC ownership, planning a runDisney event, or simply wondering how to survive Disney World with small children, this episode delivers inspiration, practical tips, and the reassurance that with proper planning (and perhaps a few grandparents), Disney magic is accessible at every stage of life.----Adventures & Mousecapades is a passion project from Alicea & Nathan Novak - two Seattleites addicted to The Mouse. The world of Disney Parks is constantly evolving, but keeping track of what's actually happening versus what's merely rumored can be challenging. That's why we're thrilled to welcome Scott Gustin, one of the most trusted voices in Disney journalism, to share his firsthand experience from the 2025 edition of Destination D23 and provide context that goes beyond the headlines.Scott takes us behind the curtain of this fan-focused event, explaining how it differs from the larger D23 Expo and why Disney strategically released major announcements like Zootopia Better Zoo-gether, Big Thunder Mountain updates, and the Buzz Lightyear vehicle redesign the week before. As he explains, "Walt Disney World had their own priorities, and they're not to make a really good weekend for Destination D23... their job as a resort is to increase bookings."The conversation reveals several exciting developments from the event itself, including the upcoming Carousel of Progress renovation featuring improved Walt Disney animatronics and the return of Cinderella Castle to its classic pre-2007 color scheme. Scott shares his theory that the castle update might be bundled with necessary structural work: "I think there was bringing forward of some budgeting that is outside of just a paint color." This approach hints at how Disney sometimes finds creative ways to deliver fan-pleasing updates while addressing practical needs.Looking toward the future, Scott offers thoughtful predictions about what we might see at D23 Expo 2026, particularly for long-neglected attractions like Journey Into Imagination with Figment. "It just doesn't work in 2025," he candidly admits, while explaining the operational challenges of taking a family attraction offline at EPCOT. His insights into the planning process and construction sequencing (like how Cars Land must precede Villains Land) provide a realistic framework for managing expectations about future announcements.Whether you're planning your next Disney vacation or simply fascinated by the business of theme parks, Scott's fact-focused approach cuts through the noise and offers clarity about what's actually happening in the Disney universe. A routine cholesterol test turned into a life-saving discovery when doctors found an aortic aneurysm that required quick surgical intervention. Nathan sits down with his wife and co-host Alicea just nine days after her open heart surgery for a candid conversation about facing mortality with grace, humor, and remarkable optimism.Alicea takes us through her journey from initial diagnosis to recovery, sharing the surprising way her aneurysm was discovered through a precautionary CT scan. Though her arteries were perfectly healthy, the ballooning in her ascending aorta required swift action – a powerful reminder of how routine medical screenings can uncover silent but potentially fatal conditions. What makes this conversation particularly valuable is Alicea's honest reflection on the experience from the patient perspective. From choosing Hamilton as her operating room soundtrack to the unexpected challenges of being conscious while intubated, she offers rare insights into the emotional and physical realities of major cardiac surgery. Her remarkably quick recovery (so far) – leaving the hospital in just four days instead of the expected week – demonstrates the profound impact that mindset can have on healing. The episode highlights the critical importance of community support during health crises. Despite both hosts admitting their reluctance to accept help, they acknowledge how essential their network of friends, family, and church community has been throughout this journey. Alicea's advice to others facing similar situations cuts straight to the heart: "Find people that love you and will take care of you. Don't be afraid to ask for help."Listen in as we explore how facing mortality can clarify what truly matters, and how unexpected medical journeys can reveal strengths we never knew we had. Universal's Epic Universe has arrived, and we're trading Mickey ears for Power-Up Bands to explore Orlando's newest theme park sensation! Our special guest Marielle, a former Disney cast member who helped open Toy Story Mania and later worked on Disney Cruise Line, shares her candid first impressions of this ambitious new destination. The conversation takes us through each of Epic Universe's distinct "portals" – from the spellbinding Ministry of Magic where you'll feel transported directly into Harry Potter's world, to the sensory explosion of Super Nintendo World where every corner pulses with gaming nostalgia. Marielle reveals which attractions truly impressed her (Stardust Racers ranks just behind VelociCoaster in her coaster rankings!) and which aspects of the park still need refinement. What makes this episode particularly fascinating is Marielle's unique perspective as someone who understands Disney's operational excellence from the inside. She compares the guest experience between the two companies, noting where Universal excels with character interactions in Isle of Berk that surpass even what Disney promised with Galaxy's Edge, while also highlighting accessibility challenges and operational hiccups typical of a brand-new park.Whether you're planning your first visit or simply curious about Universal's newest offering, this episode delivers practical advice on navigating return time systems, avoiding the punishing Florida sun in a surprisingly shade-free environment, and maximizing your time across these immersive new worlds. You'll just have to give this weeks show a listen!----Adventures & Mousecapades is a passion project from Alicea & Nathan Novak - two Seattleites addicted to The Mouse. Disneyland over spring break is not for the faint of heart, but that doesn't mean it has to be a bad experience. If you play your cards right (and have the right expectations), you can still have amazing experiences, eat great food, meet your heroes, snag all the Lightning Lanes you want, and even squeeze in a daily nap. Here's our trip report of all the stuff we got up to in the Happiest Place on Earth.----Adventures & Mousecapades is a passion project from Alicea & Nathan Novak - two Seattleites addicted to The Mouse. A couple weekends ago we got to visit a new to us theme park, and a place that helped inspire Disneyland: Knott's Berry Farm. Just 5 miles away from the Happiest Place on Earth, Knott's features incredible thrills of its own, and offers some incredible food too. We were luck enough to hit the Boysenberry festival, and thoroughly enjoyed our day. Come along and see what Knott's is all about!----Adventures & Mousecapades is a passion project from Alicea & Nathan Novak - two Seattleites addicted to The Mouse. Disney blazed trails in 1998 with the cruise industry's first private island, Castaway Cay. While others have copied and extended the concept, there's nothing quite like the relaxation and fun found on this 1000 acre spot in the Bahamas. What makes it so special? Listen to this week's episode to find out! Make sure you stay till the end for a special surprise from our good friend "Rachel from HR".----Adventures & Mousecapades is a passion project from Alicea & Nathan Novak - two Seattleites addicted to The Mouse. Our DVC resort overview series continues this week with a look at our happy place - Disney's Aulani Resort and Spa on the island of Oahu in Hawaii. This is one of the few DVC locations not associated with one of the theme parks, but don't think for a minute that means there's not a lot to do. From the beach and pools to amazing food and even an onsite luau, Aulani is a perfect vacation destination.----Adventures & Mousecapades is a passion project from Alicea & Nathan Novak - two Seattleites addicted to The Mouse. This week's guests got Nathan to do something he hasn't done in decades: watch a horror movie. We're talking about the new horror/comedy moving Screamboat, based on the original Mickey Mouse cartoon Steamboat Willie. We were lucky enough to get a preview of the movie and spend some time talking with director Steven LaMorte and producer/actress Amy Schumacher. Steven and Amy are deep Disney fans, and that absolutely comes through as a loving, yet bloody, homage to Disney characters and storytelling in the movie.Screamboat opens in theaters on 4/2 in North America, rolls out globally in the coming weeks, and gets two big Mickey-gloved thumbs up from these two Disney nerds! Stage Nine in Old Town Sacramento is an absolute treasure trove of all things pop culture and nostalgia. Not only is Stage Nine one of the largest Disney Fine Art galleries in the US, it also houses a gigantic Disneyana collection, has a toy store straight out of the dreams of 70s and 80s kids, and features a classic candy store too. Add to that RSVLTS, Loungefly, Funko Pop and more, and this place becomes your checkbook's worst nightmare. It's GREAT!You can see and shop most of Stage Nine's collection at https://stagenine.com.
