Jamie Clubb grew up in a three centuries old travelling circus and showman family. He began his fascination with martial arts over 30 years ago. Over that time he has trained in a wide range of martial arts working initially in professional performance and then extensively in self-protection. He is a huge advocate of martial arts cross training, working a lot in combat sports, especially modern MMA, but - being an avid historian - has always maintained respect for the traditional arts. He has instructorships in multiple disciplines and created his own approach to martial arts and self-protection, Clubb Chimera Martial Arts. These days he is known for his writing, his cross-training approach, his realistic teaching children's self-protection and his strong advocacy of critical thinking as a learning tool.

He then focuses on the hackneyed device of the lone man martial art bar brawl.Regular podcast host, Jamie Clubb, explores discusses how magic is a legitimate part of martial arts history and tradition, but has no place in pragmatic practice. He also looks at the way indestructible martial arts fighting styles both sell martial arts short and have now become an increasingly tired element of martial arts fiction. The first of a two-part episode. Jamie Clubb offers his thoughts and reflections on martial arts quests. He comments on the difference between dojo hoppers and martial arts cross trainers, and why he believes there is often a lot of incongruity in martial arts teaching. He provides insight into two of his three-point criteria for selecting classes that teach good self-defence skills. Personal security concepts and pre-emptive striking discussed here have their basis in Jamie's training under Geoff Thompson and Matty Evans of the Real Combat Method as well as Mo Teague's Hard Target System. Weapon awareness comes from Steve Timperley's Knife and Edged Weapon Awareness Programme and the hard skill tactics describe come from Karl Tanswell's STAB programme and various concepts learnt from Mo Teague's teachings. In his debut episode, Jamie Clubb reflects on confusion in self-protection training. He questions common perceptions surrounding self-protection and its relationship with martial arts subculture. Referencing some of his greatest influences, this show looks at the definition of self-protection and explores how and why its objectives become distorted both by students and teachers alike. Jamie Clubb is a multi-faceted martial arts/self-protection teacher and writer. His unusual background, growing up on a travelling circus, and his avid interest in cross-training provides a unique insight into martial arts training and subculture.
